Betrayal, a perfect quote for me, today. They are clearing the property neck to me. Watching the 100 year old trees coming down is breaking my heart. That, combined with loss of privacy, the woods I love, and all the wonderful times spent on my back lanai, is causing me a meltdown. The doe that comes in my back yard was here yesterday. I think she was telling me good-bye. I need to run back to North Carolina or some peace and quiet. The equipment and the trees falling is vibrating the house.

petite1, glad the quote spoke to you and my sympathies on losing the trees that you loved. Are they planning on building new homes there? The woods next to us were taken down to erect a new house on the top of the hill and more taken out when they expanded the 180 year old stone farmhouse at the bottom of the hill. The woods used to be so nice and dense, so I feel your pain.
As much as I hate how the deer decimate my garden each summer, I do love seeing them in the yard. They came to day to finish the pumpkin I broke up yesterday.
The Holter monitor had to be removed after 11:59 am so I postponed taking a bath until after then. The adhesive on those leads was hard to get off my skin. I'll turn the monitor in on Monday.
Last night was another unsettled night and I woke at 5:30 am for the final time, read for awhile and then dozed off again until 7:30. Finding a position that is comfortable is a challenge because I'm trying to prevent mask leaks which wake me. Plus, I keep notifying the PA of my difficulties and don't get a return call from her. The MA has called back, but her knowledge is limited and she wanted me to call the supplier, who only deals with equipment issues, not adaptation issues. Frustrated and tired, not a good combo.
Rearranged dining room for Christmas day. I added a leaf to the table, put the table pads on, spread the Christmas red tablecloth and put the green napkins in the Christmas themed napkin rings. I'll set the table with the Corning Ware Christmas plates I bought ages ago. I found matching glassware, iced tea and wine, on etsy and will bring them up from the basement storage area.
I want to make the lasagnas on Christmas eve day so I only have a minimum of prep on Christmas day. I'll make the salad then and prepare the bruschetta.
I swept the floors today and now my back is in spasm again. This is really incapacitating. I feel like my back is being tasered since I have unrelenting spasms like electric shocks. Tomorrow I want to wrap the presents I have for them that we bought while on the cruise. That will really set my back off with the bending over a table to wrap. DH cannot wrap neatly, so I usually end up having to do it. I'm just glad, we no longer have to wrap multiple presents as we did when they were small. We give them a generous check, but still give them a small gift in addition so they have something to unwrap. I want to give each of them a lottery ticket, too, just for laughs. I hope they each win something.
I hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone. harley07, I hope you got home safely from your trip.

I understand about your not enjoying your tree, Betrayal. My surgery was Dec. 23, 2016. I do like the little one DD sends however. It's just enough and I can do the house decorating I do in under 30 minutes. I tried posting a picture of the tree one night and will try again.
No cooking for us this year. Eight of us are having dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant Christmas Eve, Maureen is cooking Christmas Day and our friends are joining us at our country club on New Year's Eve. We won't even see in the east coast New Year but they always have a nice party. This year they are having a casino night and dueling pianos. My sister plays - somewhat of an understatement - so I will enjoy that. I haven't done cookies since my mom died. That had become a lovely tradition after we moved here in '97. In the end, she couldn't do much but sample but it was a special time.
Loved the ice skating Christmas show. Folks of all ages and talent participate and it's just fun. Really got me in the holiday mood. I love seeing the little tots in their fancy costumes. I kept thinking what mayhem there must be back stage but they do a great job.
Don't remember who asked, but no snow here. Sometimes we can see some snowcapped mountains in the distance but Phoenix really is a flat dessert. A few years we have had a freeze about now but not this year. Tomorrow it will be about 50 when Ken walks the dogs but up to 65 or so by the time I golf at 10:30.
Our club hosts a large golf tournament for teens between Christmas and New Year's and I hope the weather stays nice for them and for me. I'm on the "deliver lunches for the officials" crew. One year it rained the whole week.
Happy Holidays, everyone.

Taco, what a pretty little tree. Like I said before, I have a little one, but it is a bit sad.

Women, the way I see it, are very evolved people. They're more mature, they're more aware of their feelings, in touch with their feelings. They're connected to things that matter more in life. They know what's important. Men basically run around like idiots until we meet somebody who can show us that those things are important.
4 -
Taco, your small tree is lovely. What a wonderful gift. I like your holiday plans, planned for minimizing stress.
Petite, I empathize with your dismay over losing a beautiful, forested area accompanied by horrible noise. Not what you want for the holidays or for any time.
Betrayal, I'm sorry you're experiencing so much pain as you prepare for Christmas day dinner.
It's 64 degrees here this morning, overcast and, according to the weather forecast, humid. Yesterday was 70 degrees but didn't seem extremely humid when I walked outside. I finally got the living room carpet cleaned, with focus on the traffic areas. It came out looking nice. One small stain near dh's chair didn't completely vanish. Neither of us knows what caused the stain.
Now that I'm in carpet-cleaning mode, I'll clean the bedroom carpet after Christmas.
Chris, I hope you're getting over your cold.
Happy Sunday to all.

The 1st day of winter.
The shortest day of the year.
My poor balance now keeps me from climbing up and/or reaching up while X-mas decorating.

Petite, sadness for the loss of any trees and your privacy. Down here we had cows grazing in wide open fields. Now we have high rise apartments everywhere.
Betrayal, I’m hoping you’re getting better sleep. It sounds like you’ve got a good handle on your Christmas dinner too.
Taco, your tree is pretty. And your plans of going out to dinner sounds great for all of you. Much less stress.Carol, carpet cleaning is a chore, super you’ve completed it before Christmas. I need to steam the tiles. Oh Joy!
Chris, as long as you enjoy your tree that’s all that matters. Charlie Brown’s tree still sells!
Teka, that’s very pretty. It’s best to recognize that climbing up on ladders is off the table.
Back in the day, my mom switched to just using her ceramic tree - and my niece set that up for her. At some point I know I won’t be up on a ladder putting up outdoor lights. I have to hope I can pay a neighbor kid to do it.
I’ve dusted every piece of wood in the house with Pledge. Laundry is going. Now I’ve got to get going! I dread the traffic and the crowds. My own fault for delaying.
Today is 82 with full sun. Running around will be hot.
2 -
I love the small trees that Taco and Teka posted. They are just the right touch of Christmas.
Petite - I would be very sad to have the forest of trees taken down. I realize we have a shortage of housing in some areas but we desperately need trees for our environment.
Betrayal - I hope your sleep and your back improve soon. It sounds really miserable.
Cindy - I enjoy hearing about your life - active as always. I doubt I could have kept my mouth shut with the uneducated person talking about renaming the JFK Center for Performing Arts.
We arrived home around 9pm last night. We had a great time - just the right mix of sightseeing and relaxing. The laundry is done and everything is put away. I’ve made a grocery list so DH can go shopping tomorrow. I’ll need to go to the butcher. I picked up some throat congestion last week and am having coughing fits at times, mostly in the morning when I wake up. Cold-ez is helping. I’m also quite tired.
We typically have e a very low key holiday with just the three of us. I’ll talk with both my brothers this week but per usual we will not be seeing them. We will be celebrating with DH’s family on Saturday. It’s not my favorite thing to do but I don’t want to deprive DH of time with his family. We are all getting older so one never knows how many more times we can gather. Although we’ve been married for 45 years I’ve never felt comfortable with his family. His older sister and older brother and their spouses were all educators and had kids around the same time so they have lots in common and I’ve always felt excluded. It didn’t help when I was diagnosed with BC in 2020 just before Christmas and DH’s older sister told me that cancer was just an inconvenience. After that I didn’t go to any family get togethers until late 2023. So I’ll go on Saturday, keep my mouth shut and try to be a good sport.
Wishing all a good week.

cindyny, I second what harley07 said about the uneducated person. I would most likely have had visible teeth marks in my tongue though and made some groaning noises. I don't know what you were rushing off to, but enjoy it. You seem to be on hyperdrive. I know you like using a power washer like I do, shame you can't use it on the tiles, LOL.
teka, loved your decoration. I am starting to realize a ladder is not a good place for me, especially if I have to tilt my head. Better safe than sorry.
Taco, loved your tree. I bet it smells good.
harley07, my youngest DB's wife skipped the funeral and I was so glad. The DSIL, whose father had died, whispered in my ear when I hugged her, that she wasn't coming. It was a huge relief. I haven't spoken to her since my mother's funeral when she said some horrible things, about me, in earshot of everyone. I ignored her then and continue to, but avoid contact if it is not going to be a big event where there is enough room to separate. Unfortunately, my DB is one that I still have contact with, and even at my niece's wedding last year, he and his daughter made it a point to seek me out. She actually told my DSIL that they could no longer be friends if she chose me over her. DSIL responded it wasn't her decision and they no longer keep in close contact. Family dynamics can be a source of conflict and around the holidays hard to deal with. I hope you can find some joy in the visit.
My issues with the Bipap and back continue. For something that is supposed to promote better sleep, so far it has not. I'm only a week in and will wait until next week to bug the NP. I take the Tizanidine for my back and it helps some. I had to vacuum today so it is in protest and I'll take another Tizanidine about an hour before bedtime. It might help to improve my sleep.
I normally clean the bird cages on Sundays, clean all the Bipap equipment, and added gift wrapping today. All the gifts are things we purchased while on our cruise except what I bought for my step grandson. He did get one item from Guatemala, but wanted some wrist supports for weight lifting and I ordered that online.
Several of the purchases were wrapped in newspapers from Puerto Vallarta and Guatemala. I kept the papers because I need to brush up on my Spanish. My plan when I returned from the cruise was to dig out my Spanish language books and start to review them to practice speaking again. I can get by with simple questions and answers. I have found that even when I seem to be floundering, they are receptive to my attempts. Well, that never happened with all the medical events that cropped up, so it is on my New Year's plan. I can read Spanish better than I speak it so that has been a plus. I'd just like to be more fluent and the local library was trying to start a meeting once a month for those interested in conversational Spanish (all levels). I'll pursue this after the holiday as well.
So the gifts are all wrapped and under the tree. I wonder if Misty will try to lay on them? I once had a cat who loved bows. One year she pulled every bow I had placed on gifts off, and was carrying them around the house to play with. As a result, every package had a hole in the paper where the bow had been.
Under the tree has always been where the cats would disappear for the holiday duration. Misty has decided this is where she likes to be as well and this is her first tree with us.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.

Cute picture of Misty.

Tippy has finally gotten used to being brushed again. Was really fighting it. I saw something on Facebook about a horse who had not been brushed for a long time. they first loosened the matts with coconut oil, then used calming words. I got lighter with my hand, and gave him a treat for submitting. Finally this morning he got the first brushing on both sides in many months.
Going for groceries and cough suppressant early this afternoon.

Good morning. My PCA was ready to send me to the ER, yesterday. My blood pressure was so low. I think it is a combination of hypothyroidism and mourning the loss of my happy place. It took a while, but I think he understands. My BP is normal this morning. I like the little tree pictures. My tree hangs on the wall. When I get to NC next week, I will have another Christmas. I have a Christmas lunch at Outback with my social group, today. I am ready to go for my morning walk.

I received my digital picture frame yesterday. It is large, but I like it. I have a slide show going with photos on a flash drive. I don't know why I waited so long to buy a new one when the old one stopped working.
I have two prescriptions to pick up at the Sam's Club pharmacy. I know it will be a mad house, and I'll probably have to park a long distance from the entrance. The walk will be good for me.
Even with a minimum of holiday fuss, I will still be glad when Christmas is over, and life will return to normal.
DH skipped golf this morning because it would surely be cart path only. We had quite a bit of rain the last two days. He will bake his oatmeal chocolate chip cookies today. We'll take some to my sister and her dh on Christmas day.
It's 64 degrees and the sun is shining. Happy Tuesday to everyone.

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don't clean it up too quickly.

well enjoyed reading all the posts. Great Christmas message Betrayal! I made it over to the mainland. 11 ferries had been cancelled but mine went. Phew. Bad weather in the Georgia Strait is why the cancellations. Here for a few days then working Christmas Day. Here’s mom tree.
Looking forward to visits with friends. Heading to see my brother later and then looking at Christmas lights. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.4 -
Love the Christmas trees. We got snow this morning and DH had pared at the bottom of the driveway. Of course, my Walmart delivery yesterday was completed today. The poor delivery guy called and said he would not be able to get his car up the driveway even if it had been carless. I told him to just leave the packages at the mailbox and DH would get them when he cleared the driveway. Closet organizer order will now be delivered on Monday.
Closet repairs are complete so we are good to go when it arrives. We will have to assemble it and anchor to wall, but we can handle that. It will be good to finally get his clothes off the bed, off the floor and back where they belong. We plan on sorting this afternoon to decide what stays, what gets donated and what gets tossed.
Made the meat sauce (lean ground beef and Italian sweet sausage) for my lasagna marathon and it is in the oven cooking. I just combine the raw ingredients with the tomato puree and spices to cook this way. I don't precook the meat, so it stays tender. It takes about an hour to cook. I'll let it cool and store in the garage refrigerator until tomorrow when assembly begins. I took the left over ground beef, made meatballs and the left over Italian sausage links, put them in my seal a meal bags and they are now in the garage freezer. So I have them ready for a future meal.
I found poppy seed bagel slices and plan on using that to make bruschetta rather than a baguette. The texture might be a bit firmer, but it will hold up under the moisture from the bruschetta. I have Greek olives, almonds, and dried apricots for the charcuterie that DS and DD are bringing. DD got me a mince pie, yum. We'll be having a Caesar salad with the meal and I get to make that.
I saw the eye doctor and he is new to the practice. I need to see a retinal specialist and he's one. He was very nice, discussed my test results with me and I am good to see him annually. I see one of his optometrists for my next appointment which is in 6 months, and she is super nice. Both are more informative than the guy I was seeing, who finally retired. So finally a doctor's appointment with a positive outcome.
MRI results finally showed in portal last night and this morning. Not sure of what they mean other than they seem to reflect age related degeneration and some disc issues. I'll let PA tell me what needs to be done next to reduce back pain and spasms. I was standing while making the sauce and that alone was enough to set back pain off. It is really impacting the quality of my life and what I can do, so it's restrictive and that's what I hate. I'm used to being active, and this is curtailing that.
Did some laundry as well and will finish tomorrow when I do the bedding and towels.
DD and DSIL dropped over last night. We were out to dinner at Bonefish Grill since I had Diner Rewards that were going to expire on 12/24. She caught up with us as we were in the Giant next door picking up the ground beef (so expensive now) I needed and a few other items. They had dropped off gifts for the pets, but decided to wait for us for a visit. Thanks to both our purchases, I was able to get a free ham and that is in the freezer. I'll use it for Easter.
Off to sort through clothes. It is very gray and only 38 degrees. We did get snow, about an inch, but most of it has melted. Not an inviting day by any means. Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

We’ve been running out daily for one thing or another. Tonight we pick up my niece and grandniece at the airport. Leaving here around 8. Their plane needed de-icing before they took off. I think they got out of NY before the storm hit
I’m wishing for a quiet stress free holiday. HAHA! We’ll see.

I don't think Christmas is necessarily about things. It's about being good to one another, it's about the Christian ethic, it's about kindness.

Happy Christmas Eve. We're invited next door to our neighbors' home for "holiday cheer" at 6 pm. I'm taking an appetizer plate. I may have to walk around on the street. During the day, I'll check to see if the yard is firm enough to walk across the grass to their place. We have large lots. Ours is two acres.
Today will be busy. I will be cooking a stuffed fresh pork roast to bring to my younger sister's house tomorrow.
I also want to go to a seafood market and buy fresh shrimp for dinner on Friday night, when my youngest brother and his wife will arrive from Oklahoma. They'll be staying with us, probably until Monday. I want to make a shrimp and pasta dish for dinner.
DH is off to the golf course, even though it will surely be cart path only. He made his oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies yesterday, his annual contribution to Christmas food.

To all who celebrate - wishing you a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄

Made 4 lasagnas this morning in my marathon: large one for tomorrow's dinner, one each for DD and DS and one for my freezer. Tomorrow's meal will feature bruschetta, Caesar salad and the lasagna. DS is bring a cheese tray and DD is bringing the meats plus a French chocolate opera cake for dessert. She also got me a mince pie, which is a favorite. So we are all set.
It took about 3 hours to do all the lasagnas from start to finish and I have enough meat sauce left over to make spaghetti for DSIL who doesn't eat lasagna.
Later lunch, early dinner was Chik Fil-A. So we are all set.
Today was DSIL's birthday. She is the one who's father just died. Her family will celebrate with her tonight.
Just learned a cousin who I have not seen in probably 40 years, passed away on December 1 and the obituary mentioned her sister was also deceased. This latter cousin I kept in loose contact with and I was surprised when the Christmas card I sent her was returned today. We were born a month apart, so growing up we were very close. Sad to learn this in this manner. They still have 2 older brothers that survive them. One lives in western PA and the other lives in south New Jersey. They were the children of my mother's favorite brother.
We are supposed to get another snow storm on Friday with an accumulation. I am already tired of winter.
I sorted clothes with DH yesterday and he has a very large pile of clothing in very good shape to go to Green Drop or Vietnam Veterans. He had several pairs of suit pants that need to be converted from cuffed pants to straight leg and I found him a local seamstress who does this. He will meet with her to get them fixed.
DD and DSiL are here and we have put out the luminaria's but it seems we are the only neighbors on this section of the road who participated. Normally many more participate. We will take a ride to see how it looks on other blocks. It is always such a lovely sight.
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope that those who celebrated Hanukkah had a very nice holiday as well. Stay safe.

Wishing one and all a Christmas Eve filled with peace and unexpected gifts of kindness Christmas Day!

I had chemo today and DD was with me because she had a holiday. We’re having chow main for lunch tomorrow with DD SIL and GS. We’ll go see my DH in the morning before lunch. Happy Christmas to all who celebrate. I haven’t done any decorating because of being sick last week.
1 -
@wren44 Hope your SEs from the chemo don't happen so you can fully celebrate the season. Glad your DD was with you. My first chemo is scheduled for Jan 6th. My DD will be at a special ER Department training she can't miss so my DH will be with me. It isn't the best time because we need to meet my DGDs school bus and it will be cutting it close, but she is 10 and could walk home if needed. She is a good girl—we just are extra careful.
