@brutersmom So glad acupuncture helps you relax. We all need that. I have a weekly massage. Priceyβ€”but as they say, β€œYou can’t take it with you,” so I enjoy relaxing whenever I can.

I say, go as often as you can!

Livinglifenow glad you enjoy your massages. There is something nice about the hands on of the massage but for me accupuncture has been even better. It has helped with so many things from stress, hot flashes, night sweats, and minor aches and pains. It doesn'doesn't hurt. The only thing I don't like is I have to lay on my back and I have postnasal drip from the Ibrance drying me out.

  • @brutersmom It sounds like you have found the perfect adjuvant β€œfitness” treatment! 😁

    So, so happy for you!

  • How is everyone doing? Getting lots of exercise walking around the malls shopping? I am pretty much shopped out, so most of my steps are to the mailbox or back and forth in my house. I try to get 7,000+ steps each day, as well as work with free weights and do floor exercises while watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

Wishing you all a fantastic week!

I’m still going to exercise classes 4 days a week. The Enhance Fitness class is on break so last week I went swimming instead. That’s my plan for the next couple weeks. It’s been too rainy here to do much walking, which I miss!

Hi everyone! I’m in the Bahamas this week (first time - def not the last!) and have been averaging 15k steps for last 3 days! Just proves I can still do it! So, new year, new beginnings. No excuses when I get home this weekend! I even have a treadmill in my house and a lovely trainer at my favorite JCC who has been patiently waiting for me to get up off my ass 😜 and become serious.

This year my mantra is get moving everyday! Please know you all are amazing & a great inspiration! THANK YOU!!!!!

Wishing everyone happy holidays and a wonderful new year’s!
CHEERS πŸ₯‚to a year of great health for all of us! β™₯️

@eddiej Wow! I am so impressed with all your steps! So glad you are on a lovely trip to the Bahamas. Enjoy!

We will all be cheering you on when you return to keep up the movement.

@aj I’m so impressed that you make it to fitness classes 4 times a week. That is awesome. You are an inspiration.

    Hugs, Pam πŸ’—

  • @eddiej Send some of that sun my way! Enjoy. I get tons of steps when I travel anywhere. It's good to get out there.

@brutersmom Acupuncture is great, and you are reminding me that I should make an appointment for that extra reeeelaaaaxation.

@aj @livinglifenow So inspiring that you are keeping the energy up. I just bought myself a present of a smart bicycle trainer so that I can bike in the house during these cold and icy winter months. I like to use Zwift and pretend I'm biking through some imaginary landscape. I guess that is my own version of escapism.

I have been reading about exercise and cancer. Ever since I had my knee replace I just have not gotten back into cardio. I do weightb training 3 days a week with about a five minute burner at the end, which is intense. Recommendations are 2 days weight and 3 days 30 minutes of cardio. I just can't find the motivation to do the 30 minutes. Not sure what I want to do.

@brutersmom Have you ever tried the bike for your cardio? That might be less stressful on the knee. I got myself one of those rings that tracks my fitness. I didn't want a smart watch and this one was less expensive than the aura ring. I'm finding it very helpful-it tracks my steps and makes me get moving. I'm back to doing weights-I try to get there 3 times a week but often it's just 2 times. But the weights make a big difference for me maintaining my strength. Wishing you all the best in the new year.

  • @tougholdcrow You inspired me to get on our exercise bike. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈI managed 5 minutes! Really felt it in the thighs and lungs and heart. Great cardio.

@brutersmom I understand your issue with cardio since your knee replacement. I had one 4 years ago, followed a few months later by a large, extruded herniated disc. I was incapacitated for months. Going from a runner to barely shuffling along was so difficult. Also, impossible to get much cardio. Since my running days are long gone, I have invested in an inexpensive little step machine. It's pink! That way it's more noticeable when I see it sitting in the laundry room when I walk by. I usually do 1-2 minutes at a time. Great cardio and also really firms up my legs and glutes. I try to do several 1-2 minutes sessions a day; I don't always get there! I rarely do 30 minutes straight of any cardio activity, other than the occasional walk. Hope you find something that works for you.

Hi! I’m back from Bahamas and didn’t catch a cold or flu ( I did have vaccine)! Woohoo!! It worked out that the week I was away was my off week for Kisqali which helped my immune system I think.
All this talk about cardio so decided to join in. I plan on making the Tues 9am spin class at my gym this week and every week I’m in town and not sick. I used to go regularly and need to do so again. I go at my pace (which used to be great) and love spinning to the music. You all inspire me greatly and I will work to become an inspiration for you too.
Almost my one year cancerversary …. My January scans are coming up (1/8) and I pray they continue to show no progression.
wishing everyone good health and happiness in the new year!

  • @eddiej Juliana, it sounds like biking is on the fitness menu for a lot of us!

So glad your trip was a healthy one. No fun being sick on vacation.

    Keep on spinning!

    Hugs, Pam πŸ’—

  • @livinglifenow Pam, Wow, thanks!

@eddiej My scans are on the 9th. Blah. Tumor markers were good for the last blood draw, so I'm hoping for the best.

@tougholdcrow I wish! My markers are still out of control - they’ve yet to match the good scans I’ve had so I try not to pay attention to them. My MO and his team said that my great health, perfect blood chemistry, easy tolerance to side effects and physical capabilities are more telling than my markers. I pray each scan period that they are right πŸ™ …… so far so good πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ™πŸ€žπŸ«£

    Wishing you great results! 😊

@eddiej Mine were insanely high when this whole thing started some 50 months ago. Everyone is different and it's really good you have an MO that gets your individual case. Here's to strength in the new year.

@bigred62 I'm a pickle baller too! I haven't played since June due to hip problems and an eventual replacement but I'm looking forward to starting back in a few weeks. Hope you don't get HFS so that you can keep playing. It's such a mood elevator!

Today I just finished shoveling my 3rd winter storm. This last one was snow then ice, about 1/2 inch thick on the driveway. My driveway is uphill 70 feet and 2 car wide. We had help this time because my step daughter needed her dad's help. She sent her husband. LOL. One thing I have noticed is that the knee that had the TKR is feeling looser. I have some scar tissue that has challenged me. This keeps up I won't need to worry about cardio until sprjng.

@chicagoan I hope you get to start playing pickleball again soon, it's so much fun and great exercise. Speedy recovery with your hip. 😊

I just want to chime in and say that for the most part I have been continuing with my approximately 2.5 - 3.0 mile walks over the last few months. I did slack off a little last November when I had the low magnesium problem, and went fewer times a week and for shorter spans, as I had some serious troubles. I'm back to about 4-5 days a week and close to 3 miles round trip, so glad for that as I'm having some bone and liver progression problems that I will see onc about tomorrow. I just wish I could get more interested in strength training, but it just doesn't have the same appeal for me that the fresh air and flora and fauna do outside.

A Very Happy New Year to all!

@chicagoan - I keep meaning to tell you that it's my understanding that Pickleball originated here on my home turf; King County in Washington State. I've never played and don't know anything about the game, but many, many years ago some local state legislators heavily promoted the game and claimed to have invented it while just horsing around together. Just how true that is I don't really know, but I will say I'd never heard of Pickleball until they started promoting it here. I actually didn't know it was still a thing until you mentioned it here. Glad the game has survived and is so much fun for so many.

@threetree-Yes, pickleball is said to have originated in Washington. What I've heard is that a father "invented" the game to entertain teenage children and it was named after Pickles, their dog. It's a fun game for young and old.
Easy to pick up but it doesn't get boring because their are so many levels and ways to improve.

Maybe that "father" was also a local legislator/politician?

Wow, thanks for the link @chicagoan . (Why didn't I think to look it up?!) There's a lot more there than I ever knew. I do remember Joel Pritchard talking it up now, with another person I thought was a local politician too, but I don't think these friends they mention in the article were politicians. I couldn't remember the name of the local politician, but then easily remembered when I saw the article (Someone I haven't heard anything about in years and years). Anyway, I think I heard about it initially in the early 70's; before they were having tournaments and after all the family invention part. Aside from seeing it as an occasional offering in local recreation center seasonal flyers, I don't remember ever really hearing much about it after that initial promotion all those years ago. I had no idea how it had grown so much in popularity, spread all over the country, and now has an official association, big time tournaments, investors, etc. That's all new, and actually quite a surprise to me. Again, I'd always thought of it as a local recreation center offering that quite a few people around here enjoyed, but nothing more. I was surprised when I saw that you and at least one other here had been playing the game. Well, we do learn something new every day, don't we. This was a fun one.

@threetree Not only do they have pickle ball courts at most rec centers all the very the country, they also have them at many of the RV resorts that my DH and I visit. Sadly, I never took up the sport, as I’ve been without cartilage in my left knee since my 20s. And, any lateral movement is out. So I stick to walking, biking, and hiking.

I do hear it’s a lot of fun, though! Enjoy it everyone who can!

Hugs and Happy New Year, 🎈🎊 Pam πŸ’—
