  • Hi ladies, Canadian here. We love you but don't want to be the 51st state. You ladies are part of the resistance. Keep it up. It will ultimately be the increasing numbers of resisters that return the US to a state of normal democracy. In the meantime, the evil triumvirate, Putin, Netanyahu and Trump, are ruining lives all over the world. It has nothing to do with ethnicity or religion, but rather the pathological sense of power and greed that these men have. I hope they all enjoy a long stay in a cell in the Hague one day.

In the meantime, resistance is not futile. Bella ciao.

Almost all wars, perhaps all, are trade wars connected with some material interest. They are always disguised as sacred wars, made in the name of God, or civilization or progress. But all of them, or almost all of the wars, have been trade wars.

Of course, he doesn't want Maria Corina Machado to be the President of Venezuela even though she was duly elected. She's not a fan of his and that disqualifies her.

Big question is who made him the arbiter of Iran, Yemen, Nigeria, and now Venezuela? He's acting like Putin and Netanyahu. He is in violation of International Law on so many fronts now and who will stop his mad frenzy? Pete Hegseth is frothing at the mouth to start a war and Trump is allowing him to play the master planner. Sad state of affairs.

Whenever people are confronted by a prediction for the future that they simply cannot or will not believe, they always say, 'It will never happen in my lifetime.' If the prediction is something they deplore and fear, they say it with calculated bravado, often adding a smug, snorty hhrrummph.

  • Trump and his apparatchiks apparently have no respect for international borders. When Trump speaks of US dominance in the Western Hemisphere it creates a lot of fear. What would have seemed like a paranoid fantasy in Canada is now an actual fear here - will the US take over Canada? He is expressing an interest in other countries for the moment but that doesn't mean he doesn't have his sights on our oil and minerals. We have a new Prime Minster, Mark Carney, who is very smart with a PhD in economics from Oxford and experience as Governor of the Bank of England for nearly 7 years, and has strong international contacts. He was elected on the belief that he "could handle Trump" and deal with trade negotiations. Canadians are somewhat upset that he is not taking a tougher stand, but he knows he needs to "suck up" to continue to have a relationship with Trump.

We have our share of right wing wackos as well. Like the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, where I live who was responsible for the ad at the SuperBowl showing the Reagan anti-tariff speech. Pre tariffs, he was a Trump supporter and by stealth is undermining our public health and education programs. But people here loved that Reagan ad and Ford got re-elected with a majority. So many politicians are doing what is good for their careers and not what the people actually want. Bernie and Mamdani promote programs to improve the lives of people and that is why they are very popular. That Mamdani got elected shows there is hope.

Welcome littlemelons. It is nice to have sentiments from Canada reflected here. We are not all in with the plans our current leader has, and I deplore his recent actions against Venezuela. I wish we could convince world leaders not to kowtow to him, and literally kiss his ass. He doesn't respect them and considers them weak when they do so. Please continue to chime in, we like knowing other countries opinions.

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.

The Lord gave us two ends - one to sit on and the other to think with. Success depends on which one we use the most.

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.

I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.

I hope people do actually want to hear the truth; but I am sadly not convinced that this is the case.

Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.
