Some places in our area will hit 80 degrees today. We're in for several warm and humid days until the weekend, when winter cold will return.

Good morning ladies:
I wanted to share something about vet practices you may or may not know. That many of them have been bought more recently by equity firms (investors) and they have become very expensive (and think they may push services as many others do). Equity firms are about investing and we have had a lot of this here in New Mexico with all kinds of things (buying up housing, vet care, now they are trying to buy our utilities here too). Something to be aware of.
Everyone has such variable weather! We have high winds here and it's nippy with the wind chill factor, where as others of you have snow/storms and some with 80 degrees. The big winds here start every February and come and go into May. The winds are why spring is my least fav season here, but I am looking forward to the time change in a couple of weeks.
Hope everyone had a good Valentines (or Galentines) Day, Presidents Day, Fat Tuesday for Mardi Gras and start to the Chinese New Year so far the past week!

Jazzy,
H & I have been fortunate to have the same vet for years caring for our pets. Teka will be 17 years old come June and showing her age. ^..^

Winds have died down but the snow keeps coming!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I think I have found a phone that Mom will be able to use by herself more. It's a RAZ Memory cell phone. All the set up, adding contacts, etc is done through an app on MY cell phone, Mom won't be able to change any settings so she won't be blocking me and turning the ringer off and such. Dialing is easy, press on the picture/name on the screen, hanging up is just as easy. Never more than 2 buttons on the screen at a time. No need to change screens. The phone can be left on all the time, so no need to remember how to turn it on or turn it off. Will give reminders when it needs charging. I’m getting her phone set up today and taking it to her tomorrow. Hopefully this will make life easier for everyone!
mOmmy--Sounds like some pretty wild weather for you! Thundersnow is always an amazing phenomenon to experience. Glad your DH got home ok.. And I hope the kitty let the vet check her teeth.
Carole--Holy, Shmoly, 80 degrees? What a temperature swing!
Jazzy--interesting about the equity firms buying up Vet practices. Definitely something to look into.
Teka--being able to establish a relationship with a Vet make things a lot nicer, doesn't it?
mOmmy--hoping you don't get snowbound!

That cocktail would make a delicious dessert!
Hope the phone does the trick, NM. Your mom does have a talent for undercutting your efforts to make her life easier!
Our temperatures will drop 40 degrees lower this weekend.

Snow storm ended yesterday. We got slammed with 10.5 inches. Wind died too, so its just more cleanup from this. Sun is out.

We had to run the a/c last night. By Sunday, we'll need the furnace again for a few days.

We had a glorious 29-30 degrees overnight. WOn't last. Sadly, zero white stuff.

I saw a few flakes driving home from chemo. Given how steep my driveway is I’m happy with that.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! I took the new phone to Mom yesterday and I think it's going to work a lot better than the old one. Time will tell. But it really is nice to find something that really is made specifically for people in her situation and the people who take care of them! The big snowstorm overnight turned out to be a bust, not much more than a couple inches is all. It is pretty having a nice fresh coat of sparkly snow on the ground, though. Of course, the next storm, due in Sunday into Monday is looking like it's going to be bigger than originally anticipated. "Nor'Easter" is being thrown around, and those are often unpredictable the closer to spring it gets. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Carole--I'm hoping the phone will help, too. Mom does have a gift for making life interesting! 40 degrees is a big temp change!
mOmmy--that's a fair bit of snow! I hope the clean up isn't going to be too hard.
Carole--what part of the country do you live in? It seems early for the AC to furnace in the same day swings, at least for the east coast.
Wally--funny when anything close to 30 seems really nice, isn't it?
Jazzy--that is a beautiful pic of her!
Teka--I agree! She really does look like a class act.

NM, I'd prefer -30, but 30 is better than 60-80, LOL.

NM, LOL on your question to Wally!
I live in south Louisiana on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, about 40 minutes to New Orleans and an hour to Baton Rouge. The front that was forecast came through during the night. We went to bed with the a/c on. DH got up this morning and turned on the heat. It's sunny and the high today will be in the 50's. We'll have a freeze overnight on Monday night.

Hubby is a keeper! 😍

LOL, NM. Maybe living in Israel as a toddler confirmed to my mind that hot weather is ick.

Enjoying our 2nd cherry pie this weekend. 😏😋
I wonder in 2025.

The best cherry pie I've eaten was bought in Michigan in cherry country. We stopped to buy cherries at an orchard and the farmer was also selling pies made, presumably, by a woman in the family. Yum. It was large and delicious. My favorites on that pie wheel are pecan and lemon meringue. Custard pies are more popular in the south than fruit and berry pies. My mother made lemon meringue and chocolate meringue. We favor sweet potato pie over pumpkin, although they are similar.

Good morning ladies!
It's hard to believe we are already to the end of February. Time flies when you are having fun (but also when you are not?)
We had really high winds last week and with that some cold moved in again. Those winds are now over on the east coast and with the blizzard going on. I have people all up and down the east coast and here there is very deep now already (13 or more inches, some places up to 30). I hope if you are in the throes of this storm that you are warm and safe and don't have to go anywhere for a bit.
I think the Olympics were a total success and loved watching the skiing, big air jumping, and of course the skating. Alysa was my favorite and brought such joy to her performances. Some of the skaters who had problems and didn't metal did beautifully in the gala skate on Saturday. They all seemed to support one another and were out there doing their very best.
Been busy with my new project at work and also on home improvement updates. I am ahead of Teka on spring cleaning and like to do mine in the early part of 2026 before the outside work beckons me to go there. Living room done, kitchen almost done, this weekend we start on the master bedroom. Last week I got new outdoor lighting installed and it looks great. Chugging away on my to do list….
As part of the extremes in weather in the US, we are going up to the low to mid 70s this week. That is 20 plus degrees warmer than it usually is this time of the year. We need moisture badly still; snow drought persists all out west except for CA.
Stay warm and safe folks!

Oh and I love a good pie. I am less of a cake and other types of desserts person and love apple in the colder months, berry or peach pies in the summertime. Now I want some pie!

My son lives in Oregon. On a trip back to Seattle we randomly found a cafe in a small town with wonderful pies. They have mastered strawberry rhubarb with the exact tart to sweet ratio. All their pies are excellent but that one is outstanding. Usually they are too sweet. Our trips are now planned around a stop there for pie.

I could use a stiff drink right now. After doing damage control because my mom decided to try and get attention by lying to family and friends of the family that my cancer was back, I was determined for a few days not to call her. Well today she calls me and tells me that they found she has cataracts and they want to do surgery to get rid of them. I advised her to get the worst one done asap. So then both she and my stepdad try to put pressure on me to agree to go there for a week to take care of her. I didn't agree to anything but I waited until I got off the phone and told my hubby what was going on and what my parents wanted me to do, we talked and came to the decision that I can't do it. I'm tired of being the one to give up my life and things I have to do for my stepdad and younger brother and nephew to trap me into being the one to do everything so they can escape the responsibility.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Well, the gin Nor'Easter turned out to be a bit of bust anywhere except right along the coast, which doesn't bother me at all. I'm far enough inland that I didn't even really get much wind, certainly not the gale force that was predicted. Fine by me!
Carole--that must be a beautiful area! Gotta love the springtime temp swings, don't ya?
Wally--I didn't know you lived in Isreal! Do you remember much about the area?
Teka--I live cherry pie, too! I'm a little surprised that cherry beats out blueberry, but that may be because I live in blueberry country and cherry pie filling is almost always out of a can here.
Jazzy--you really have been busy and productive! Good for you!
Wren--a place that truly masters strawberry rhubarb pie is a treasure!
mOmmy--Why on God's green Earth would your Mom tell people your cancer is back like that??? Does she have some dementia or is she just crazy! Personally, I think you should tell her that since your cancer is back you can't take care of her after her cataract surgery. Please do not go take care of her. She is a grown woman with a (presumably) equally grown husband, she can manage her own care. Or get someone else, or hire someone to come it. Cudos to your husband for helping you say "no." Then mix up some of these and send them to her:
Mother's Little Helper
Ingredients
• lemon
• Diet Coke
• 1 ounce vodka
• 2 ounces strong coffeeInstructions
- Fill a cup with ice and pour some Diet Coke in, about ¼ of the way full.
- Squeeze some lemon over the top and add the vodka and coffee.
- Top with more Diet Coke and enjoy.

Native, she did it for attention. I told everyone who had heard it from her, not to believe anything until they hear directly from me. She expects me everytime something is wrong to drop everything in my life and run to play handmaid, just so it makes it easier on everyone else around her. Hubby has gotten tired of this over the 20+ years we have been together, he stated she has people there to care for her, let them shoulder the burden, not us!
On top of this, she turned my Monday night tv watching to total crap. Missed all but the last five minutes of a show I watch every week all because she felt the need to call me again about a medication she is out of and feels like its my job to fix the issue! So I went to bed angry over it as it was an episode I was really looking forward to watching! I usually rewatch it with my hubby because he misses it because of his job, but I always catch it before he does so if he asks if he missed anything worth noting I can tell him. So because of that, I am no longer going to answer my phone after 8 p.m. unless its an emergency or its my hubby calling me to tell me he's on his way home from work even though I know what time he gets off and how long it takes him to get home. He was not happy that Mom is thinking I can do stuff for her that my younger brother and stepdad are right there to do it. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom but I'm tired of it.

Mommy, dh had cataract surgery this morning. About all that is required in the way of help is someone to drive the patient home from the surgery center. The recuperation consists of taking it easy for 7 days, not lifting anything heavy, not driving for 24 hours, not sneezing or coughing hard. Drops in the surgery eye three times a day. Back to normal meds and diet on arriving home. It's not a surgery that would make it necessary for you to go and take care of your mother. Her dh can easily look after her.
Meanwhile I'm dragging today after getting up earlier than usual because of the early scheduling of the surgery.
