Lumpectomy

Hi, I have IDC and I just had my lumpectomy. Surgery went well, the surgeon said he only took one lymph node. I do believe he also said that the tissue wasn’t enough to get a pathology report. But it looked normal when he removed it. I have my follow-up appt. Next week to find out more about the next steps. I would like to say that the pain level has been much milder than I had expected. The only thing I wasn’t quite prepared for was the size of the incision. It is about 3 inches long and right at the top of my breast. That is where he said it would be. I do have some bruising and soreness but all in all it went well.

Blessings to all of you!

  • Hi!
I had a partial lumpectomy Jan 20th and was healing fine with some minor incision drainage. Now, I have a very bright red breast with red speckles. I have been given two antibiotics and neither have helped. Going to have an ultrasound and aspiration today. Has anyone experienced this? I do maybe feel a little better as far an as the pain after the antibiotics but the redness is covering most of my breast now where it was only around my nipple since about two weeks post op. Is this more lymphedema than an infection?

    Thanks!

Hi @calvarychili, Breast swelling and redness can be caused by lymphedema but it can also be caused by cellulitis, a skin infection. The gradual spreading and prescription of antibiotics are indications that it is more likely to be cellulitis. The ultrasound and aspiration is looking for an abscess causing the cellulitis. Draining it is usually effective in helping the skin heal. I hope you see some improvement after the procedure.
