Just a little beauty as we inch our way to Spring. Two Ibis sunning. No interesting drinks lately so thought this might do! 😉

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Happy Spring! I now have a good 6 inches of snow on the ground that arrived over the last couple of days. Last evening's snow caught a lot of people off guard, apparently, as several roads were shut down due to multiple accidents and icy conditions. Mom has a lovely cough and gravelly voice and is having her meals in her room for the time being. She said they did "some tests" that I’m guessing was a swab for flu/RSV/COVID. No calls from the facility, so I'm assuming she's got a plain old cold.

    Teka-the daffs are beautiful!

    Morning, mOmmy!

    Reader--beautiful birds, thanks for sharing!

    Morning all!

So flipping aggrivated this morning. Have to go to Goodwill to see if we can find long sleeve shirts in blue, black or white for hubby for work as those are the only colors he can wear with his uniform shirts due 'policy'. Up until this week they didn't say what colors he could wear as they just gave him his uniform shirts! Brought a crate up from the bin which I a, going to go through as its my good china. Hope nothing is broke as its Royal Doulton and hubby was collecting it for years before I met him, his maternal grandmother started his collection. I loved the pattern the moment I saw it and we kept building on it over the years.

DH's sister had Royal Doulton. She's deceased, and it's in storage. Settings for twelve. She used it at Thanksgiving and it had to be hand-washed and hand-dried after the meal. Same with the crystal and the silver. Everybody—or most people—pitched in and helped. I hope your china survived the move, Mommyof3. A friend just moved and was lamenting that she has "good" china and her daughters don't want it.

I was never able to find the brandy Minus recommended. DH bought a bottle of another common brand, and I've been enjoying a little snifter of it after dinner. It's fairly smooth.

Stupid question. What causes common colds? A virus?

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! I had a nice CPR recertification session yesterday, got to ketchup with a bunch of people I used to work with and got to meet a few new people, too. Mom is still having her meals brought to her room, and sticking pretty close to her room, still sounds pretty gravelly, but overall starting to feel better. No notices from the facility about flu, covid, or RSV, so it's either just Mom who sick, or it's a garden-variety rhinovirus cold going around. The facility is still hosting Senior College sessions and other group meetings, which adds to the no-worry vibe. The sun is shining, which feels nice until the breeze kicks up, then it's very brrrrr again. Gotta love this time of year~!

mOmmy--workplace policies sure can be irritating. If hubby gets a uniform shirt, it shouldn't matter what color shirt he wears under it. But if it does, the company should provide it. Just like hospitals, nursing home, etc that require uniforms/scrubs should provide them like they used to. Royal Doulton is beautiful. How big is your collection?

Carole--It's really sad, the way "good" china has gone out of fashion. I have a set of good china that was my maternal grandmother's. It was bought for her by one of her boys while he was overseas in the military in the 1940s. I used it for family Thanksgiving meals for many years and still have it on display. Not sure what's going to happen to it when I'm gone, I don't think anyone else in the family who would still be alive has ever seen it, and no one has ever expressed an interest in it when I asked. Common colds are caused by a family of viruses called rhinovirus. Rhino for nose. Rhinoviruses setting in the mucus membranes of the nose and back of the throat and sit and multiply and irritate the heck out of the tissue, giving us the runny nose, and post nasal drip that goes on to trigger coughing. Rarely progresses beyond that, but can leave someone open to a secondary throat or sinus infection, bronchitis or pneumonia, especially if they are immune compromised. Not a stupid question at all. Lots of people don't realize colds are caused by a virus and ask for antibiotics, which have no effect on viruses because they remember getting an antibiotic for a secondary bacterial infection after a cold, but where never told the difference.

We just sent DH's youngest brother all of their mom's 1930s cut crystal. It is beautiful but I'm terrified to use it and break it. The brother wants to give it to his daughter as she's turning 30 and finally into family heirlooms.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I got a call from Mom's facility yesterday peeyem, she tested positive for covid and is supposed to stay in her room for 5 days, when she will be tested again. Apparently, Mom is having a hard time remembering she's supposed to stay in her room and needs to be gently herded back every so often. She did call me later in the day and mentioned that the staff keeps taking her back to her room when she goes out into the common area to look out the windows at the ocean. A couple other residents have covid, too, unsurprisingly. I'm actually surprised there haven't been more instances of covid, flu, or RSV this winter. It's certainly a whole different reaction to positive tests now than it was in the beginning!

Wally—it;'s so nice that someone in the family is appreciative of the china!

    A beautiful cocktail!

I hope your mother's Covid illness is mild. Here in Louisiana, the flu illnesses have been more severe than the Covid, according to what I have read.

    Hi ladies:

I am at work a bit late tonight as I am going to a jazz concert nearby to the office that starts in awhile and just easy to go straight from the office. The artist is a Nez Peirce native American and looking forward to hearing her music. I took a few days off early in the week and its been a busy few days since I came back so it's also some nice quiet time to catch up this evening on a few things in this 3 day work week that feels like five.

I am not doing any bigger travel this year with some focus on getting some expensive things taken care of to be ready for retirement. Instead, I am doing some long weekends (junkets, as I like to call them) and did a couple days up to Santa Fe for some time there including a cooking class at my fav little cooking school there. I have been doing these for 10 years now (one per year) and this time was foods of Spain with a focus on paella and some other tasty dishes. They did a pear bisque which was just amazing and going to try to make that at home soon, it was so good! I need to get some paella pans as part of my list and going to make some of that too. We made Paella Valencia which included some chorizo, chicken and seafood.

We have been under the "heat dome" here in New Mexico for a couple weeks now with unusually warm weather with temps up to the low 90s (that is June weather) and ALL the trees are coming out. New Mexico has a long spring that starts with the fruit tree blooms in early March and ends with the cottonwoods in May but not this year. I noticed today almost everything is out and may be by the end of the month. We basically had no winter, the west is in a snow drought and the wildfires have started. I am going to be planning to do a To-Go bag this year for any urban wildfires that hit our city because they are a thing now (those terrible fires in LA being one example but there have been others). A cold front is coming in tonight and will have us back to highs in the high 60s to low 70s and hopefully we will stay cooler for awhile longer. I am starting some slow gardening and praying for more rain. They weather people say we may have a wetter summer with El Ninjo and of course, too much rain can come and flood things here.

Not much else to share but if I am not here again, hoping you are enjoying the unfolding of spring if you are in the northern hemisphere and have a nice holiday season coming up. I will post some of the pictures from the cooking class from my phone for your enjoyment!
