My chemo port goes in Monday and my first round of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (AC) starts Thursday. I'm both terrified and raring to go.

Welcome, @jstreet_phd,
We know anticipating the start of chemo can be scary but also provide a sense of relief for some that treatment is (in some cases finally) happening and with hope that it will do its job. You're not alone in these feelings!
Many of our community members find that the fears ease with the more information learned about what to expect, how to prepare, and ways to mitigate side effects so that you can set yourself up for a less-stressful experience while your body tries to heal.
Along with the commraderie you'll find here, and the sharing of treatment ups and downs with others, here's some information to help you prepare:
- All about Ports and Other IV Catheters
- Thread: Port Placement: Detailed Description of the Process
- Thread: Tips for Getting Through AC Chemo Treatment
- All about AC Chemo
- What to Expect During Chemotherapy
- All about Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer
Don't forget to check out the Tips for Getting Through Chemo linked above also, for some great practical info!
We hope this helps you feel a little more prepared and eases your fears just a tad. You've got this and we're all here for you! Let us know how port placement goes on Monday, and how you're feeling after your first infusion on Thursday. We're thinking of you!

I'm getting my second chemo treatment today. The drugs are Decadron perjeta herceptin and taxotere. The first round wasn't great. Nausea diarrhea and pain everywhere. I'm trying water fasting now to see if it will help.

Joining this group as there is No April chemotherapy thread (that I could spot)!
started my chemo journey in April with 4 rounds of EC. Now over.
This week I am starting my Paclitaxel regimen and I am hoping to ask my oncologist to administer it weekly rather than bi weekly.
Another oncologist who spoke to me last week suggested it is better tolerated and has 25% benefit rate in the end. Can anyone relate? It is not my first rodeo with BC or chemo as I I had a separate BC in 2012, been in remission and found another small lump in October 2025. Surgery was in Feb 26 (lumpectomy). But as all lymph nodes affected chemo was definitely recommended. Otherwise I would have moved on to radio and tablets (Letrozole) only - bad luck!
I am super positive. As I know I can and will beat it again. Thanks for reading me. xxx0 -
I'm getting my port put in next week, and meet with oncology tomorrow to figure out treatment plan. Definitely scared but very grateful for these resources!
