Good Morning, Loungettes! Our snowy Sunday turned into a gray and gloomy but almost no snow Sunday, not that anyone is at all disappointed! Mom fell asleep yesterday peeyem, woke up and was a bit confused about what time it was, so she called me to ask me what time it way about 7:30 last night! That was an interesting conversation, she was trying to tell me about what she was dreaming and what she did yesterday and it was getting all mixed up in her mind. It was actually kind of funny to listen to. A couple hours later, once she got fully awake, she called me to ask me if she called me earlier! This would be worrisome if it wasn't typical of her to be a bit foggy headed when she first wakes up from a deep sleep. That's why no one calls her or schedules early morning things with her if it can be helped. Gotta love the Momma!
Not a whole long going on here in the HTL just now. Everyone is probably pretty busy. Here's wishing everyone a fantastic day!
Peanut Butter and Jelly Martini
Ingredients
• 1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter
• 1 tablespoon honey
• Your favorite jelly
• 1 ounce raspberry or black currant vodka (Skyy or Absolut are good choices)
• 1 1/2 ounces Frangelico hazelnut or walnut liqueur
• 1 ounce raspberry liqueur
• 1 oz. Torani strawberry or raspberry syrup OR 2 ounces strawberry pureeStep 1: Prep the Glass
Start off with a large, chilled martini glass.
Mix the honey and smooth peanut butter and spread the mixture on a plate. Upend the glass and turn the rim in the dish until the entire rim is covered.
Take a squeeze bottle with a narrow tip and fill it with your favorite flavor of jelly. Starting from the bottom, turn the glass while squeezing an even line of jelly along the inside. (Alternatively: Add 1 teaspoon of jelly followed by one teaspoon of peanut butter to the bottom of the glass. Next, using a straw or butter knife, 'spread' a line or two of peanut butter along the inside of the glass.)
Step 2: Shake It Up
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the raspberry or black currant vodka, hazelnut or walnut liqueur, raspberry liqueur, strawberry or raspberry syrup (or strawberry puree).
Shake the mixture vigorously for several seconds. Taste with a spoon or straw and adjust to your taste. Then strain and pour into your prepped martini glass.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Martini Upgrade
High-quality ingredients can elevate the flavors of this cocktail from delicious and comforting to elegant and decadent. Try the following recipe for a peanut butter and jelly martini luxury upgrade.
Ingredients
• 1 ounce Grey Goose Cherry Noir vodka
• 1 1/2 ounces Nocino della Cristina walnut liqueur
• 1 ounce Chambord raspberry liqueur
• 1/2 ounce Castries peanut rum creme
Instructions
Prepare the martini glass as before.
In a shaker filled with ice, combine all of the above ingredients.
Stir gently. Pour. Enjoy.From https://delishably.com/beverages/Peanut-Butter-and-Jelly-Martini-Cocktail-Recipe

Hello everyone!
i haven't been on the threads much since they changed it. I find it difficult to use now, but I am hoping someone can tell me is Chevy is okay. I haven't seen anything from her and messaged here, but no reply. She was always so sweet to me, and I just hope she's alright.
Wishing everyone good health 🌺0 -
Good morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Taking Mom grocery shopping today assuming she slept ok last night and can get all the way awake by the time I get there. Depending on how long that takes we may try to get another couple of errands taken care of while we're out. At least it's gotten a lot easier to get her home by dark now that daylight is lasting past 5:30 peeyem.
Minus--ah, yes, it is tax season.
Jwoo--Hi! Good to see you again! I haven't heard from Chevy for some time either.

I usually have my federal tax return filed by now but have been lazy. I collected the documents into a folder and used a free service yesterday afternoon. It takes less than an hour to enter the numbers since our finances are so simple in retirement. I will print out the returns and recheck the numbers before E filing. We are getting a refund because we withheld too much. I'm thinking I will change the withholding. Hm. Wonder if Elon or one of his teenage minions will be checking my return.

hi Jwoo. Good to hear from you. Chevy moved close to her DD and into assisted living. She sort of dropped off the boards after that. Hopefully she’s busy in her new digs.

Thanks, Wren. I was thinking about Chevy recently, too. I'm sure she's making people smile wherever she is. I remember how she enjoyed gardening in her back yard.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! Mom decided not to go out shopping yesterday, so we did some stuff around the apartment. Today she has an appointment to get her toenails trimmed, and I'm going to try to get her to a jeweler to get her rings sized before one falls off and gets lost, . I'm going to take another look around and see if I can find the packet with her birth certificate and other documents she wants put in a safe deposit box and get her ID and a safe deposit box. We'll see how far we get today. I have a suspicion that something is going on with her, she had me write down how to get to a particular TV channel on her cable set up, and she could not comprehend the instructions to press the number 6 on her remote. Nor could she find the numbers on the remote, even with a magnifying glass, even though she had just put in the 4 digit number for the other station she likes to watch on the same remote. It was as if the words written on the paper didn’t connect in her brain. It will be interesting to see if she is doing any better today.
Carole--I thought the tax return would be a lot harder to fill out this year than it was. It is an interesting question, who will be reviewing the returns, I'm betting on AI and not real people given the current situation.
Wren--I had forgotten Chevy moved, glad you remembered~

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Snowing again today, another winter weather advisory is up, schools are closing early due to the prediction of snow changing to rain/freezing rain. Mom and I managed to get a fair amount done yesterday and had a nice lunch at Denny's as well. The puppers and I laid in bed until 8 ayem, and so far it's being a slow moving day. Probably just going to veg out like a couch potato today.
Good Morning to everyone, I hope you are all busy with life and tax preparation time.
Couch PotatoIn a mixing glass with ice cubes, we put
-3 cl of the Beefeater,
-2 cl of sweet potato syrup,
-2 cl of Campari,
-2 cl of the Ruby Port and
-1 cl of lime juice.
-1 dash of orange bitters is added.
Stir the whole thing with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds until cold. Using a strainer, the drink is poured into a pre-cooled champagne bowl.
1 -
NM - I hope you stick to your plans to spend the entire day as a couch potato!!!! You deserve it.
1 -
NM, envy your snow. We hit 60 today. I'm over it. Taxes filed last week.
Monday, DH redoes labs to see if any kidney improvement so he can proceed with the Pluvicto cancer treatment. If not, then PARP inhibitors. Nerve wracking.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF Day! Well, our snow turning to rain never turned yesterday, so I've got about 3 inches of new snow for the puppers to play in. Supposed to warm up to the 40s today, then drop to the teens and snow some more overnight. Which will make the stuff that melts during the day freeze up again overnight and make a real mess when it starts melting again tomorrow during the day. In other words, mud season has arrived. I was a total couch potato yesterday, accomplished absolutely nothing all day. Going to have to get some stuff done today, I guess.
Minus--I did, and I enjoyed it greatly! So did the puppers who couch potatoed on top of me most of the day!
Wally--I'll happily take the top 10 degrees off your temps and transfer them to here overnight! It is nerve wracking waiting on lab tests to determine treatment options. Hugs.

Wally would hate our spring weather. It's mid 40's this morning, sunny, warming up to the 70's. The Mardi Gras revelers in New Orleans love the parade friendly weather.
NM, after this winter, will you be reconsidering a move south?
Plumbers were here yesterday installing new gas pipe in a small area outside the carport. They left with the warning that the rest of the pipe out to the meter by the street is just as old as the replaced pipe. This house was built in the 1970's. DH says switching to electric would be much too expensive to consider. So we cross fingers and keep on keeping on. Cost was almost $900.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Mother Nature is spitting some snow at us this ayem, but it doesn't look like it's going to amount to anything. Temps up to the 30s, but is offset by a pretty brisk breeze. It felt downright chilly standing out with the puppers this ayem!
Carole--I probably won't be reconsidering moving south even after this winter's fun and games. Financially it just doesn't make sense right now. Plus, it would be way too hard to move Mom as well, and taking her away from the friends she has here would make her miserable. Not to mention moving away from my friends here would make me pretty unhappy as well. Glad the gas pipe is at least partially fixed. Seems like a pretty expensive fix! Are you going to be responsible for the cost of replacing the pipe out to the meter? If electric rates where you are resemble the rates here, going electric would not be a wise move.
Miriandra--LOL!!! It took me a minute to catch on, but that is funny!
Wally--Wow! That's an eager Thanksgiving Cactus!

Got a message from my cousin, 2 months until we go on our trip! Time to start packing! Otherwise, not much going on right now. Still very cold overnights, not so bad during the day. It is March, things should start getting warmer at night now, too.

Happy Lundi Gras to everyone. Lundi being Monday, obviously. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday and the weather, which has been very friendly to parade goers, will be changing and becoming unfriendly by tomorrow at noon. High winds and storms will be raining on the big famous parades like Rex.
Today I hope to get the Needs Maintenance light turned off at the Toyota dealership. I have an 11 am appointment.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! I didn't realize it was so close to Lent until I saw mention of Mardi Gras this ayem. I also just looked and discovered that Easter Sunday is one week before I leave for Amsterdam! All of a sudden this trip is getting very real and I'm getting really excited! It also looks like it's going to rain overnight tonight, with temps in the 40s, which I will be happy for,. It's only about 20 here right now and very chilly.
Carole--It's too bad the weather is going to turn wet for the parades and partiers. I hope the Needs Maintenance light just means the care is due for routine checks and such.

The king cake shots look yummy. The gang in MN at the resort where we spend summers would love them. They're big on "shots" of all kinds.
NM, we're scheduled to fly to Amsterdam on Easter Sunday to begin the Viking River Cruise. So we're a week ahead of you.
Hope we don't have violent weather today. Note to self. Bring garbage can in from the street.
Happy Mardi Gras!

I just lost an entire long post. Urgh.
Carole and NM I leave on Easter Sunday also to fly to Paris for a Paris to Normandie river cruise. Excited as dad was there in WWII and have heard good things about Viking.
Other than a nice white wine I had lately (crisp and citrusy) called Lumina, not too much drinking going on.
Hello to everyone just lounging in the lounge 🍷🤽♀️

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day, and Happy Birthday to my Mom day! Mom turns 89 years old today. I'm making her favorites, crab rolls and strawberry cheesecake, for lunch. She's never been much of a cake lover, she prefers pies and cheesecake, so that’s the way we're going. Her landlord is having an automatic generator installed today too, so we won't have to worry about power outages going forward. Mom's apartment is heated with propane, but we did discover that when the power is out, the fan and thermostat don't work. Fortunately, Mom hasn't had any long power outages this winter.
Carole--I've looked at a lot of Viking River Cruise info, they look like a lot of fun! I can't wait to hear about your trip. Have you done this before?
Reader--your river cruise sounds really interesting, too, especially with the connection to your Dad. Can't wait to hear more about your trip, too!

NM, this is our first Viking trip. Our neighbors, who are in their 60's and active people, took a trip last April. It was a little too leisurely for them but we won't mind "leisurely." LOL.
Happy Birthday to your mom, NM. You are a good daughter.

NM - OH NO!!! Now I won't be able to get that song out of my head all day!!! Happy B-Day to Mom. Crab rolls sound delicious.
Reader - that's a cruise I want to take - Paris through Southern France. Unlikely that I'll ever get there so you can be my eyes.
Carole - looks like you'll be in Amsterdam at the perfect time for the tulips. Friends who have done that river cruise said it's fantastic.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Not so happy out on the roads this ayem. Rain, freezing rain, slush, icy under the slush, lots and lots of cars off the road this ayem with lots of minor injuries being reported on the scanner. Mom and I have decided not to go out today, so I'll be calling and rescheduling her doctor's appointment when the office opens shortly. There's a wind advisory up, too, making for a very yucky day outside. I'm not unhappy about not going out in this mess. Even the puppers are making their potty trips very efficient today!
Carole--I'm all for leisurely trips, can't wait to hear what you think of the Viking cruise.
Minus--sorry for the earworm! Carole will be there at the right time for the tulips, my cousin and I scheduled our trip specifically to see the tulips and the tulip festival! If it's anything at all like the pictures it's going to be beautiful.

NM, your weather sounds awful. Glad you and your mom aren't venturing out. It's sunny and cool here, mid 50's. I plan to go to the gym and probably stop at a supermarket since dh is almost out of hot chocolate mix. A crisis. LOL.
Happy Thursday.

I have been pretty busy lately with life. Popping in to say hey all
1 -
Sorry for my absences—busy taking care of the kitties, medical appointments (nothing serious), shopping, tax-doc-gathering & printing (with a finicky wi-fi printer), dealing with various reimbursement check snafus (wrong address, wrong ZIP, payment-stopped check crossing in the mail with the valid one, and yet another (this time for our own personal property losses) with the adjusting company as co-payee (so their guy had to pick it up, get the company's endorsement, and bring it back so I could deposit it…and because of the amount, it's on hold till Monday. Fortunately, we're not dependent on it…yet. And of course, the news is giving me whiplash—riding herd on our investments, hoping they're doing better than the Dow. We found a great weekly housekeeper—but she's Ukrainian and is here as a protected refugee…a program which you-know-who is considering ending.
Went to the Bar Show cast party/Rookie Show down in the S. Loop last week—and while I was there I got a text from the property manager that there was a power failure (high winds, downed power lines) in my part of Lincolnwood, which also of course took out our internet. Fortunately, just as left the party I got a text confirming the power & internet were back on. Bob was at a drug company dinner, so he didn't get home until the power was back on. He was flabbergasted when I told him. Meanwhile, two of my castmates are Asst. US Attys—one lost his job and the other, in the White Collar Crime division, is about to.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to scrounge up a couple of dulcimers (regular & baritone) to practice on for my upcoming gig April 25 and festival Flag Day weekend—where I'll be teaching as well as performing. There's nothing decent available and ready to shiip, borrow or rent in Chicago or online; if I call the restoration company to ask them to ship them to me they'd have no idea what I'd be talking about—so I may have to drive out to Woodridge and pick them out of the warehouse. There's a guy in Sun Prairie (suburb of Madison) with two to sell on FB Marketplace (for $50 "firm") but he hasn't returned my messages. From the photos they look pretty good—I'm feeling a bit guilty about not telling him what they're really worth, so maybe his being incommunicado is the universe getting the last laugh.
Haven't been drinking much lately. For our pre-Mardi Gras lunch at Hooked on Fish (yup, the store) Saturday, we brought a bottle of Mumm Napa DVX brut rosé; for Mardi Gras dinner at Big Jones, I nursed a French 75. They didn't have Hurricanes—and the closest thing (of which Bob had two) had creme de banane in it—and I don't like bananas unless they're "Foster." Had a Kirkland Chardonnay tonight with fish. Tomorrow night I'll do a seafood paella, for which I'm chilling an Albariño.

So excited! I got my web site pictures back from my photographer, and they look so good. They're very body-honest, so it took a minute to tell myself that rolls and tummy are part and parcel of being human. And my customers will also have AI softened bodies, so they'll want to see someone who looks like them. And screw it, it's all about the suits not me, so get over your fool self. 😆
I've sent the folders over to my web designer, so they should be added soon. And then I'm another step closer to launching. It's still overwhelming, but I keep reminding myself that people do this every day. It's totally doable. And I CAN do it.
