I promise to keep on living as though I expected to live forever. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years.People grow old only by deserting their ideals.Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up interest wrinkles the soul. -Douglas MacArthur

We have been accustomed to thinking that we have to get something
from outside us in order to be happy, but in truth it works the other way:
we must learn to contact our inner source of happiness and satisfaction
and flow it outward to share with others--not because it is virtuous
to do so, but because it really feels good.
Shakti Gawain0 -
Humankind has not woven the thread of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.

No one is happy or free who lives only for him or herself.Joy in living comes from immersion in something one recognizes to be bigger, better, worthier, more enduring than his or her own self.True happiness and true freedom come from squandering one's self for a purpose. - Carl W. McGeehon

Incline us, O God! to think humbly of ourselves, to be saved only in the examination of our own conduct, to consider our fellow-creatures with kindness, and to judge of all they say and do with the charity which we would desire from them ourselves. - Jane Austen

You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love.
You are all these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself as these tings. Choose now to know yourself as these things always.
Neale Donald Walsch

The three hardest tasks in the world are neither
physical feats nor intellectual achievements, but
moral acts: to return love for hate, to include
the excluded, and to say, "I was wrong."
Sydney J. Harris0 -
I will not pray that each day be a perfect day, but I will pray not to lapse into indifference.I will not pray that each time I shall build both strong and true; but imperfect, I will pray for impulse that I may build anew. - Elbert Hubbard

There is no more searching test of the human spirit than the way it behaves when fortune is adverse and it has to pass through a prolonged period of disappointing failures. Then comes the real proof of the person.Achievement, if one has the ability, is a joy; but to take hard knocks and come up smiling, to have your mainsail blown away and then rig a sheet on the bowsprit and sail on—this is perhaps the deepest test of character. - Harry Emerson Fosdick

One of my old favorites:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

Don't expect perfection and things to go the way you want them to when it comes to people, business, your prospects, and your social life. When things don't go according to your desires, when the weather of life is foul, be creative and consider what may be the higher reasons why this is happening and why you must adjust.Perhaps it's to gain forbearance, patience, inner strength, flexibility, or the ability to withhold criticism while serving as a loving model. - Michael Goddart

Hard times don't create heroes.
It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed.
- Bob Riley
Look well into thyself;
there is a source of strength which will always spring up
if thou wilt always look there.

Hey, Chicagoland ladies, have you seen this video? The two most clueless, entitled millennials on the face of the earth. They’re talking about MY neighborhood, where I’ve lived almost 30 years without incident. Sadly, comments have been disabled by YouTube, after numerous Chicagoans justifiably gave them what-for.
All the trauma they went through could have been avoided had they just walked to Chipotle....about five blocks from their apartment across from a CTA station.....for free. What kind of lazy young able-bodied moron gets on a CTA train to ride ONE STOP?? I’m 65 and arthritic; and if I don’t have to drive and bring back sacks of groceries, etc,, even I walk twice that far instead of resorting to public transit. Who takes an Uber without first looking at their phone to see what the make & model of the car is and the driver’s name--and gets in without looking for the “U” sticker? I thought all millennials knew that. My 31-year-old son uses Uber and that CTA station almost every day, sometimes late at night. He told me about this video and said he nearly laughed himself into an asthma attack at first when he heard about them taking the train instead of walking 5 blocks. (Their description of what they were wearing is priceless....and utterly irrelevant). What these kids went through, I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but they were so stupid that they basically brought it on themselves.
BTW, they don’t have disturbed panhandlers in Flagstaff??? It’s a city, and even small cities have to deal with homelessness.....but the real kind, not two spoiled rich millennial house-flippers who broke all their leases and can hole up temporarily with their parents. Especially those who failed to bone up on the basics of their intended new home town before moving there.
I used to think the expression "First World Problems” was a bitter, derisive expression used by the less-advantaged, but these two are the poster kids for it.

Apropos of the above post, the video has gone so viral that Tues. night Sep. 6 there will be a “Jaelen & Brianna Walking Tour” retracing the steps of the hapless couple. Attendees are being asked to dress like them (either as in the video or per their description on the fateful night). Per the listing on the EveryBlock Chicago blog “the tour will conclude with a stop at either Chipotle or Arizona."

Yeah saw that video a few days ago. It might all be a BS hoax.
BTE ChiSandy, congratulations for being nominated (member nominated) as a Community VIP!

You too, lago!
The kids' story sounds so much like the plot of that old movie “The Out-of-Towners" that I wonder whether it was really an audition for something, or an attempt to increase their YourTube revenue. Who posts a video of their harrowing experience and then invites people to subscribe to their channel?
Brianna is 18 and makes her living giving beauty tips on YouTube? Wanna know her beauty secret? Win the genetic lottery and be EIGHTEEN! Why are a couple of 18-yr-olds getting married and moving to an expensive city (which they intend to make even more expensive for those of us living here) instead of going to school? And how does an 18-yr-old house-flipper already have several “contracts.” according to his father-in-law? Something just doesn’t add up. Especially two Arizonans choosing to go to Chipotle. You think they’d have better taste in Mexican food.

Truth is not defined by
how many people believe something.
Ask. Question. Think.
Decide - for yourself.

Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a person who won't cheat, then you know you never will. -John MacDonald

The balance and peace we seek for ourselves and our society won't be achieved through mental effort alone.Mind and spirit are meant to travel together, with spirit leading the way.Until we make a conscious commitment to understand and embrace our spiritual nature, we will endure the ache of living without the awareness and guidance of the most essential part of ourselves.
Susan L. Taylor0 -
Whatever our individual troubles and challenges may be, it's important to pause every now and then to appreciate all that we have, on every level. We need to literally "count our blessings," give thanks for them, allow ourselves to enjoy them, and relish the experience of prosperity we already have. -Shakti Gawain

A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good, just because it's accepted by a majority.

When we are conscious of being part of a wider universe,
we can begin to see that what we do matters.Every action
we take has a consequence somewhere, whether good or bad.
Everything that happens affects a part of the whole body of life.
Having this knowledge of being part of something larger may motivate
us to contribute to the greater good in whatever ways we can.

I am often accused of being childish. I prefer to interpret that as child-like. I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things. I tend to exaggerate and fantasize and embellish. I still listen to instinctual urges. I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind. I never water my garden without soaking myself. It has been after such times of joy that I have achieved my greatest creativity and produced my best work. -Leo Buscaglia

Free will is not the liberty to do what one likes, but the power of doing whatever one sees ought to be done, even in the very face of otherwise overwhelming impulses. There lies freedom indeed.
George MacDonald0 -
We the decent people of the world stand for the kind of life that will be good for all of the people, all of the time, everywhere. We believe that this is a beautiful universe and that it is made for love and not for hate; for peace and not war; for freedom and not slavery; for order and not riot; for compassion and not violence; for happiness and not misery. We believe that the ultimate decency is to help people and never harm people, to lift people and not degrade them, and to respect the dignity of all people as individual human beings. -Wilferd A. Peterson

Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You cannot get there by bus, only by hard work, risking, and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you will discover will be wonderful:yourself. -Alan Alda

If religion commands universal charity, to love our
neighbors as ourselves, to forgive and pray for all
our enemies without any reserve; it is because all
degrees of love are degrees of happiness, that
strengthen and support the Divine life of the soul,
and are as necessary to its health and happiness,
as proper food is necessary to the health
and happiness of the body.
