Leesa - I am so sorry. I think you should "Start a conversation" in the Recurrence Forum. The girls there know ALOT about this type of situation. I think I saw a girl post there about Pectoral involvement. I had an unclean margin at my chest wall, which puts me at a risk of having the same thing happen. I'm sure this is all quite overwhelming...hang in there...thinking about you! Thank goodness you have your wonderful new Dr.0

Leesa....this one's for you. I am so sorry to hear your news. Is the plan still to go with carbo/taxotere/avastin now? When do you hear about your lung issues? I don't know what else to say, knowing your whole story. This just s**ks. Big time. You need anything? Hugs, honey. big hugs. And I have 2 shoulders, should you need them.
Laura...hope your BD was happy.
Susan...re: sleeves. I know...I have been reading the LE thread since the beginning and the whole thing just scares me silly. I was just telling you guys what my rad onc said would be appropriate with my stats and why he thought that. And it did make sense to me. I am so sorry if I frightened you as that was not my intent. LE just seems to be ANOTHER one of those little things that we must contend with where the experts say, when all is said and done..."Duh....I dunno know!"....which leaves us once again in lalaland. I do everything I can to protect the L arm ie only 3lb wts, no lifting of gal. milk/detergent containers, reach across and pull heavy car doors with my R only, cutting grass sure, but only pushing/turning really with the R etc. I figure if my toes (and sometimes insteps and fingers) swell a tiny bit on long flights I thought that with my 7 nodes out, I may indeed have a propensity to swell elsewhere which I also discussed with the doc yesterday. So, I always figured I was going to err on the side of caution and wear a sleeve/gauntlet. And here is where I agree with those that say wearing a sleeve in the absence of symptoms MAY, in a LIMITED # of people, cause swelling (not neccessarily LE)...a TOO TIGHT (therefore improperly fitted) garment. And remember, this is just what I am going to do, not what anyone else should do...I just reported back from my rad onc who I trust more than any of my other docs. That being said....
JanClare...thanks for the link! I have lots of time before I fly so I will check them out.
Kater....Total Home Health was just a place that was convenient but that sure doesn't make them good. Thanks for the tip!
Jackie, Julie....how are you guys today?
Sabrina...lots of things to decide and think about these days, aren't there? Life before BC sure seems care-free now when I think about it. RE: hot tubs...I heard "no" from my rad onc if on vacation was the only time I was going to jump into one and from that advice I took it to mean if this was something you did on a regular basis such as a whirlpool tub at home like JanClare, it might be OK but don't take my word for that. Check out the LE thread on these boards or try a search for LE and hot tubs and see what the gals have to say.
Once again, I'm chatting too much and DH coming down so gotta run.
Hugs to everybody...especially you dear Leesa....will be thinking about you....

Good morning ladies. just wanted to say hello and that I hope you all have a blessed day. Off to the doctor to get nuelasta shot. And to take my 16 year old to her first woman physical. She is not looking forward to it but neither am I. But needs to be done. She is showing signs of the Polycystic ovarian disorder so I want her checked out. My husband is not happy about the possibility of her getting put on birth control but if it's going to help then so be it.
Leesa sorry about what you are going through. I will be praying for you. Good luck...
Love you all
Sabrina

Leesa - my prayers are with you. My impression of you is that you are a fighter so I think that will come a long way for you. Keep us updated. Vent to us as much as you like.
Julie - sorry to hear that your chemo doesn't change. I was hoping you would be done with the nausea/vomiting! 3 more - you can do it!
Sabrina - yes, I was told no hot tubs. I read somewhere else that you could go in one up to your waist, just don't get your arm in there. Where are you staying at the Dells? We go at least once a year and always stay at the Wilderness. Honestly, on our last trip I didn't miss the hot tub as while it feels good, it's sooooo cold when you get out! Good luck with your daughter's exam. Yea - that would not be fun for a 16 yo.
Sleeves - I went to an OT after my mastectomy as I couldn't move my arm much. She did wonders. She measured my arm and my surgeon gave me a script for the sleeve, but my insurance still didn't cover it. It was $65 and she told me I should replace it every 6 months or so. I haven't replaced it yet as I only wear it when flying. No one mentioned anything to me about the hand gauntlet at all. I'll be interested in seeing those exercises - probably the same ones that she had me do. But, I was never told to continue them. About 5-6 months ago, I noticed my arm getting a little stiff so I did a few of them for a few days and it loosened right back up. That's interesting that you baby your arm, Wendy. I figured since they had me doing all those exercises on it, that it was probably good to do things like lift gallons of milk, etc to keep it in shape. I know about the cuts/bug bites, etc. Before dx, I was a regular at Curves, but they told me if I went back there I couldn't do the arm machines as repetitive movements are not good. I had 12 nodes removed, but the node area was not zapped, so probably equals out on that front.
Laura - do you have dates for the Sept walk? My chemo group is talking about coming to Chicago and were asking about walks. I told them they would be welcome to join your team if those dates worked.
Don't plan on me for the lunch as Grandma is busy that day. I'll look forward to the video of you guys exercising at Maggiano's! Hopefully, I can make the next one.
Have a great day everyone. Hugs to all those muddling through.

Leesa, I am sorry to hear your news. You are in my prayers.

Omigosh, it took me hours to catch up with you guys! I need to spend less time at my job and more time on this site!
Susan, wishing you peace in these days, as I know your Mom now has. The next level must truly be an adventure, and she must surely be enjoying it pain free at last.
Leesa, I am just pissed at your news, too. Let it all out here - this group is a real shelter from the storm. I'm so lucky to have found you guys.
Kater, is your new avatar from the lunch pics? How can I see those? Do you need my e-mail? It's ......DELETED..............!!!....
Laura, happy late birthday! And Connie, is tomorrow your anniversary? Wow, how do you celebrate that? I will eat some chocolate cake in your honor.
I recently signed up for Timber Creek Farms organic delivery. Feel really good about that. Had some lettuce last night that was so good it actually brought me to tears. Their organic oranges smelled HEAVENLY when we peeled them this morning. Kater, that book you mentioned sounds good. Will try to read.
OK, so I haven't ACTUALLY called either of those oncs yet to set up appointments......go ahead, kick my butt, I suppose I need it.
I know it's still cold and horrible, BUT there is a rumor of 50s next week, could it finally be true......?
Hugs, Kisses and Chocolate to all,
Suzanne

Hello everyone! Wow! What a lot of posts to read! That's super!
Laura, I hope your birthday went well. Did you do anything special or are you waiting until the weekend to really celebrate? I hope that you're finding it easy to get through your first week on the new job! I think it would be quite exciting!
Kater, thanks for the question ideas. You have me thinking now! I really like the chicken wire question but must admit that I don't know the answer. It could be a good agriculture question or geometry question. I need to do a little research and get the answer.
Nancy, I am definitely not the accountant type. I don't think I'm organized enough. I spent all morning getting my tax information ready to take to my account. It about drove me crazy! My hat goes off to you! Give me 30 overactive eighth graders to teach any day! And to top it off.......I'm still not finished with the tax stuff. YUCK!!!
Leesa...oh darn it all! HUGS! This is not the news that we'd hoped to hear. Please let us know what you find out today (or is tomorrow when you go again????) Then, you just put on your boxing gloves and get ready to knock that cancer out. There's lots of us that will be there in your corner! Remember, we Illinois gals are TOUGH and we stick together.
Susanne...KICK,KICK, KICK....There's your official kick from me. I do have faith in you though, gal. I know you will pick up the phone and make those calls when you are ready to do it! Just remember though, that it doesn't hurt to listen to what they have to say. It's your decision, and only yours.
Karin, I'm not ready for the bowling pro circuit, yet.....even the senior tour! I bowled another 200...a 202...on Wednesday but my first two games were 132 and 118. Now how is that possible???? LOL Also.. I loved the mamographer's poem. Every mammo room should have that posted!!
Wendy...Thanks so much for getting this thread off and running in the morning. You do so good at addressing everyone and have such good advice for everybody who needs it. I think I need to start taking notes when I read the posts so that I can make more comments. I read all the posts from last night and today and I can't remember half of what I read without going back and losing my post so I miss responding to quite a few people. Now all I have to do if find where I put my notebook so I can take those notes! LOL
Thanks also, Wendy for the LE info. I can see now why my onc didn't think I needed a sleeve and why others would need one. As for the hot tub, I have one and I use it all the time. They told me to stay out of it until all my surgical scars were healed and during the rads and then gave me O.K. again. I'm SO glad......it's one of my favorite ways to regain my sanity! LOL
Hi to everyone I missed. The bathroom tear-out started last night and I have homework to do. I need to have all the wall-paper torn off the walls by 4:00 this afternoon and I'm half done.
Catch you later.
Rita

Thanks for the Snapfish Karin. Aren't we all cute! I'm pondering the next lunch .... it's the day after Spring Equinox which might be a long night for me, so I might not be up yet by lunch. Will consider further.
Rita, what do you teach 8th graders? I have one of those. He towers over me and thinks he's a real smarty pants. Is there really such a thing as 8th-grade-itis?

REMINDER TO ALL
delete your email address on here if you put it on there (see edit, delete) at bottom of your post.....to offset spammers and confidentiality.
TEDDY BEAR, THANKS, I DIDNT HAVE THAT LINK HANDY! for calypso
I ALSO WILL SEND HER SOME PHOTOS TO PRINT AND of course will be doing photo cds one of these days for all. 8-)
recommended books?
A lot of books can be found in local cancer support group places, ie living well in geneva. maybe we should bring to lunches and swap books!
Rita
i wonder if wikipedia knows about chickenwire?
LEESA...THINKING OF YOU! Uncertainty is the worst...I'm glad you have good support at home.
I'm still trying to talk my mom into a naturapath naturopath to supplement Mom's chemo treatments.
CONCERNS FOR ALL HERE
I was happy to see an early ovarian cancer detection test being tried at Yale...?
All of you should get a baseline CA 125 as bC is linked to ovarian cancer they think. Dont believe a doctor that sniffs at that...
and since I'm nagging. TAKE OR EAT YOUR CALCIUM!!!! D 3...maybe magnesium, etc.!!
Having read ovca group for 10 years (and I finally feel like one of them now that I have had chemo)....I want you all to be careful!!!!
Rita: it even showed a photo! yeah, i remembered right!
i think it's a math question, but maybe not for city kids!!!!
Chicken wire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chicken wire, or poultry netting, is a mesh of wire, generally used for making fences. It is made of thin, flexible galvanized wire, with hexagonal gaps. Available in 1 inch (about 2.5 cm) diameter, 2 inch (about 5 cm) and 1/2 inch (about 1.3 cm), chicken wire is available in various wire gauges usually 19 gauge (about 1 mm wire) to 22 gauge (about 0.7 mm wire)

Are you using chicken wire for some kind of cool craft project or....? I take 1000IU of D3 (recommended by my chiropractor). How much do you take Kater?

CALCIUM ESP WITH ARIMIDEX AND TAMOXIFEN AND SUCH
calypso. what is the rule, only 600 mgs of calcium can be absorbed at a time?
i try to drink non hormone milk instead....my oncologist said BEST to eat foods with calcium and vit D...
but if i take a pill, it's with d3...if you search somehow, we had a long discussion on all this in prior emails and my facts aren't always right at the ripe age of 50 + cognitive impairment induced by nausea drugs and chemo.
chuckle.
lately i've been doing 3 cheese slices at night cause i only drink milk at lunch and supper.. since chemo and bc i've been sleeping through breakfast!
girls well versed, it would not hurt to give all the facts for me so they dont have to look back!!

Leesa...I'm thinking about you. I'm hoping you are getting answers. Please...don't forget that we're all here for you. Would you like to be included on our personal list? If so, PM me with your personal info and I'll add you to the list. This way...if you ever want to "talk" to one of us on the phone, you'll have all of our numbers. The info we would need is: your full name, phone number, cell phone number, street address, e-mail addy, birthdate, dx. date. BUT - any info you don't want to share is fine too! Hugs to you...I agree w/connie...you are a fighter and you will win! Remember...FIGHT MAKES RIGHT!
Hi girlz! Geesh...my new schedule is grueling! Physically...I'm dealing with it very well. I thought I would be exhausted once I get home, but my energy level is surprisingly and pleasantly high! However...I cannot believe how behind I am with my household duties. Gawd...I need a smaller house now! My house has never been unkept and it's driving me nuts now because the gazillion little things I always did around here ARE NOT GETTING DONE. This is a whole new life for me. I will adjust - in time - but the transition is killing me! Could one of you please change the amount of hours in a day? I need it to be changed to 36 instead of 24! I just hope I can survive the transition and life returns to a bit of normalcy - soon! Buddy Love is very depressed about me not being here, so I have to find someone to come here for an hour or so on the days I am gone, just to let him "out" and smooch with him. This is all so overwhelming. But it's so unimportant compared to what some of us gals are dealing with.
Thanks AGAIN for all the b-day wishes....I really appreciate it!
Rita - You're right...we are celebrating this weekend. But last night we ordered Chinese food. I was so busy logging on here that I had no time for anything else.
Wendrew...hi there!

Leesa: I posted your question to my BC list serv and Maria answered.
so far:
At 06:02 PM 3/6/2008, you wrote:
I had spread to the chest wall, into the muscle and was able to get it excised. Some can be removed, some can't depending on where they are and how extensive. This was one of the 3 tumors of my recurrence, so I started on Femara after being off everything for 3 years.
I wish her well.

Hi all,
Don't have long as I need to get to bed. Went to Marion Wednesday and spent from 11:30 to almost 5 p.m. in the emergency room there. After ER Doc had his way with me, he called Dr. Lingamurphy who nearly insisted I be admitted to hosp. I was and thank goodness.
Found out that I did indeed have thrush....not in my mouth---in the top of my esophagus. Let me tell you....I was about to the point of hiring a firing squad. After all those days of feeling bad....the hours of waiting in emergency ( new er Dr. ) and the thought that I might drive the 72 miles back home in the same condition as when I went was nearly enough to send me over the edge. I cannot believe how much difference 24 hours makes. I know I will get over this hurdle and that I will go back for my next treatment. That was in heavy duty doubt till now.
Blackjack.........we got home from hospital tonight and sitting at my house waiting for me was your package. Someday I will tell you how that made me feel but I'm exhausted at the moment and really need my bed. You are all such special people......and to those of you with milestones---I remember you Connie....I'll go back when I'm a little more lucid.......but I ran through just quick enough to wrote this note. Your all deep in my heart.

Morning all! Well...had my first haircut in almost 15 months. I think I drove the poor girl crazy (don't cut this, oh please don't cut that and....DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY BANGS OR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!). But it made a huge difference, all that little snipping and shaping. Dare I say it....looking good! Also made an appt. (Blackjack...I'm doing this for you!) for 3/12 and I am getting a prof. color, caramel AND blonde highlights. Why not? Like Laura says, after BC, if it feels good....go for it!
Now...important stuff...
JACKIE!!!!!!! You have your answer...thrush! I knew of course that this could happen with chemo and I am so sorry that my poor addled, chemobrain didn't remember this. I think it was Susan (or was it Pat??) that mentioned this. With the proper meds, you should be feeling much better very soon. Thank God!!!!
Connie....I go to Ladies Workout Express which is kinda like a Curves on steroids (3x the equipment). I just don't do the arm exercises quickly (ie up to the beat of the music)...more of a sloooooow stretch up and down. If the weights are set on high that week, I simply take my L arm for a ride, and let my R arm do more of the work. On the weight machine side I use them, but slowly and have NO weights on any of them...just use the weight of the machine itself. Since I used quite a bit of weight before and I was used to this I got everyone's blessing and in fact encouragement to def. keep up with this. When I do the steps between the weight machines...I keep my arms at my waist and no longer use them...just work my chubby little thighs. As for babying my arm...what I meant was I no longer yank heavy stuff with my L arm. I figure that way if I am always careful with stuff like gal. of milk/laundry det. I will be more likely to be careful with everything. I still use it all the time tho.
Calypso....OK...I am now KICKING YOU IN YOUR LITTLE BUTT!!!!!! Please, please, please.....call the docs. Like Rita says...okay...you don't WANT to do anything more, just want to move on. And we totally get that, believe me. But you need to consider ALL your options. If you don't, you won't have a good base for clear decision-making. And cancer, no matter how small, is NOTHING TO FOOL AROUND WITH. Please...today...call? Please, for me? If you want...I will go with you to your appointments.
Laura....your job sounds like fun. And who cares about the house? Your dust bunnies will be waiting for you when you are 75...enjoy your life and your work and your family. Isn't that what you are always telling us? Go for it, and ENJOY!
Karin....you sound like so much fun! Can't wait to meet you! If you are at loose ends on Thursday I work out every am at a place on the NW corner of McLean and College Green in Elgin, not too far south of Lake Street. I'm there usually between about 7:30 and 8:30, 8:45 if I am yakking to someone. If you want to come by and grab some breakfast or coffee or something, let me know! This way....I can gossip about everybody else behind their backs BEFORE you meet them on Friday (lol).
Rita.....did you find any cute shoes? Try anything else from Zappos?
Leesa....please let us know how you are doing? Need anything?
Kater...thanks for all the info you send all the time...you are def. our research guru!
I'll stop now....bored you all enuf for this early in the am....

Rita....just a special thanks from me to you for starting this thread. By doing such a simple thing one morning, you have made a huge difference in so many lives, mine included.
I will never stop saying "Thank You". You are in my heart......and my soul....for all time.
OK...mushy stuff over.

A bright cheerie good morning....all those snow fairies did their job...no snow ( maybe a few flurries later, who knows ) and we are going to slowly warm. I'm really going to work today....I'm weak, blood pressure is low, but I need to go back to NORMAL or at least what was normal.
Still have to re-read through all the posts to see all the milestones and cancer issues and thanks for all those warming hugs. I hope I don't send shivers through anyone new, but I really did question going on this time---I mean with treatment. I knew two days after last chemo that something was going wrong--just so insidious and of course....I was looking at my tongue and not seeing anything. Six days like that and I was going to turn into a slobbering mess or ????? Can't tell you what a relief to be glad I'm alive and human. I can't say I look forward to my next tx, but it will happen. I probably have been fortunate that I haven't had something before this.
Interesting footnote.....since I'm connected to V.A............I was on a floor with all men. Old men to boot. I couldn't figure out why the young student nurses kept coming to MY room to talk. I was a HUGELY different spot in everyone's world there---a TRUE minority and they had pretty much all male nurses....now they were much younger...NICE. I came home with meds for my esophagus,Magic Mouthwash---which is really helping and a couple of other things....also 6 or 7 different appts.....I'll have to sit down and figure those all out later but I so enjoyed sleeping in my own bed last night. Hopefully, I'll be built back up in no time.
Once again....bless you all for those hugs.....you pulled me through this...you just wouldn't let go and drop me and thinking about all of you during this most recent trial was about the only real comfort I had. Am I lucky-----no question.
All have a beautiful day.
Jackie

blackjack - Thanks for being our reservationist!
MORNIN' GIRLZ! Have a lovely Friday...I'm off today and I have a million, gazillion things to do! Gotta go, go, go...

Jackie, I am glad you have the answer, but I am sorry you had to go through so much. I had the thrush in my mouth (YUCK) so it was pretty obvious. They gave me medicine (I think some sort of thing that kills yeast). The medicine has se, but anything will be tolerable compared to what you went through.
BlackJack, thank you for your thoughts. I am excited to meet you. Thanks for the cards, ladies. We were going to AZ to visit the cemetary, but what with school , and all the medical stuff I have postponed, I just want to spend Spring Break resting and getting my life back in order. I am going to order a sleeve just so I have it if I need it. I am feeling very disorganized and whenever I feel that way, I can only get better by cleaning closets and drawers! So that is what I will do. I am glad I made the decision.
Leesa, how are you? Like Connie mentioned, you come across as a hearty, fighting soul.
Those pictures, Kater, were great. You look beautiful, all of you. Laura, my best friend makes jewelry much like the piece you were wearing. I loved it! Also Kater, I never gave chicken wire a thought until you brought it up. I live in the burbs, very near Chicago. Whenever we get out in the country, my husband and I like to go to Farm and Fleet as we love looking at those odd things farmers use. Next time I will look for chicken wire.
