Be sure that it is not you that is mortal, but only your body.
For that person whom your outward form reveals is not
yourself; the spirit is the true self, not that physical figure
which can be pointed out by your finger.
Cicero0 -
"Happiness comes most to persons who seek her least,
and think least about her.
It is not an object to be sought; it is a state to be induced.
It must follow and not lead.
It must overtake you, and not you overtake it."—John Burroughs

Life may not be all we want, but it's all we have, as my old school precept said, and it's high time we have it. We shall not find its secrets or its possible riches in the advice of others, however wise, unless we complete that counsel with our own grit, gumption, and common sense. - Mary Ellen Chase

"Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost."
-- Helen Keller0 -
Hope is the companion of power, and mother of success; for who so hopes strongly has within him or her the gift of miracles.
Samuel Smiles0 -
Wise people possess humility. They know that their small islands
of knowledge are surrounded by a vast sea of the unknown.
Harold C. Chase0 -
Life is not about doing it right.Life is the calling forth of your soul by God, in order for you to live by principles that honor God and see yourself as a part of God for the purpose of doing good.God is good, you know?It is that same God-goodness that life expects from you and will give to you when you live a life of integrity. -Iyanla Vanzant

Hooray !!! Had my first ever colonoscopy today and it turned out great. No polyps -- no nothing. Though dx'ed in 2007, I've always done the home testing procedure and sent it to the lab afterward. That is a workable test, but not as good as the procedure done by a Dr. with a scope. As it has been ten yrs. now since dx. I really made myself a promise -- to go and get this test no matter how I felt about it. Laxatives have always seemed to have stalled out on me -- and feeling the round trip to go for this test ( about 150 mile rd. trip ) I have had so much reluctance for fear I would need bathroom facilities ( sometimes iffy on the road ) either going or returning home.
After the procedure ( which by the way is far quicker than I had imagined ) you come back to the room. The nursing staff provided me and Dh too, a drink and a hot ham sandwich. When we got home and emptied the goody bag, there were also two frozen beef and mac dinners. They are not huge -- but seem just enough for supper so no cooking tonight. Hmmm, could have used that last night as I had to make a small dinner for one for Dh after work.
Now there is a Choice Care Program for Veterans -- so I was able to get this appt. done within 20 miles of home. Great for me !!!. Truly appreciate it. The hospital is only 3 yrs. old. Great staff and very good Dr. Since I worked for a Dr. who is from around here --- if I have any apprehensions about a Dr. I just ask him. He knows everyone and can tell me if I am going to be in good hands. So for now great news

Great news, Jackie. So glad it went well.
I've only had one and the whole process was miserable, but mainly because I sprained my knee really badly three days before. And of course these things always happen over a 3 day holiday weekend with the appointment at 6 am the next Tuesday. I needed to cancel, but instead skipped pain meds and hobbled repeatedly to the toilet. Sometimes I really question my actions.

A greater poverty than that caused by lack of money is the poverty of unawareness. Men and women go about the world unaware of the beauty, the goodness, and the glories in it. Their souls are poor. It is better to have a poor pocketbook than to suffer from a poor soul. -Jerry Fleishman

Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life,
is a silence vast and grand--an infinite ocean of calm,
which nothing can disturb; nature's own exceeding peace,
which "passes understanding."
That which we seek with passionate longing,
here and there, upward and outward;
we find at last within ourselves.

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here
to enable the world to live more amply, with greater
vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.
You are here to enrich the world.
You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.
Woodrow Wilson0 -
Are you balanced? Do you share your time, your energy, your life, as much
with yourself as you do with those around you?. . . . Know your limits.
You are one of the most important people you need to look after and love.
Balance your time, your energy, your life with those around you. You'll be able
to give more freely and joyfully as a result, and you'll be more open to the
gifts of the universe. It's not wrong to give to others.
But it's okay to say yes to ourselves, too.0 -
You can't pursue happiness and catch it. Happiness comes upon you unawares while you are helping others. The philosophy of happiness is pointedly expressed in the old Hindu proverb, which reads: "Help thy brother's boat across, and lo! thine own has reached the shore. "Happiness is like perfume—you can't spray it on others without getting some on yourself. -Wilferd A. Peterson

Often misconstrued, authenticity is not about being an open book, revealing
every detail of yourself without rhyme or reason. It is simply the act of
openly and courageously seeing what needs to be seen, saying what
needs to be said, doing what needs to be done, and
becoming that which you are intent on being.

Awe enables us to see in the world intimations of the divine, to sense in small things the beginning of infinite significance, to sense the ultimate in the common and the simple, to feel in the rush of the passing the stillness of the eternal. -Abraham Joshua Heschel

The moment of grace comes to us in the dynamics of any situation
we walk into. It is an opportunity that God sews into the fabric
of a routine situation. It is a chance to do something creative,
something helpful, something healing, something that makes one
unmarked spot in the world better off for our having
been there. We catch it if we are people of discernment.

Greetings and warm wishes to all of my Illinois warrior sisters out there. Just found this forum, I'm 35 minutes south of Chicago. Currently looking for anyone who has any knowledge on Dr Julie Park from University of Chicago. I have a consult for revision reconstructive surgery at the end of the month, any info would be appreciated.

Hi, Michelle. Can’t report on Dr. Park, as I’m up north in Edgewater and my team’s at Evanston Hosp. But private-message brithael, who lives in the far s. suburbs and chose to be treated at U of C rather than closer to home in the ‘burbs. She can tell you who her surgeon was. If you are more southwest than south, I can highly recommend Dr. Barbara Kruger at Advocate Christ (where one of my BFFs traveled from Minooka to have her BMX, and was delighted with the result). Haven’t seen any PS myself (though I’m contemplating oncoplastic bilateral reduction not just for symmetry but for better biomechanics and back pain relief).

Joy of life seems to me to arise from a sense of being where one belongs. . . of being foursquare with the life we have chosen. All the discontented people I know are trying sedulously to be something they are not, to do something they cannot do. -David Grayson

Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice. . . . Life from the Center is a life of unhurried peace and power. It is simple. It is serene. It is amazing. It is radiant. -T.R. Kelly

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur
when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy,
or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled
by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts
and start searching for different ways or truer answers.
M. Scott Peck0 -
Whatever noble aims we may have, paths we may be on, or necessary efforts
we may make, our only real freedom is to awaken now, this very instant, to
the mystery and miracle of being, to the spacious awareness that we are.
It is only this immediate awakening to the deepest levels of ourselves, to the
conscious source that connects us all, that will enable us to experience and
manifest real harmony, intelligence, kindness, love, and compassion in our
lives and bring about the transformation in the world that we all wish for.
