Landscaper got back to me and apologized profusely—the supervisor who knows my property was suddenly hospitalized before he could instruct his crew as to what to do at which addresses. They will replace whatever edibles got mowed down and don’t come back up; and the spring cleanup will be Tuesday.

We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men and women; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.

It is going to be a really wet day here, and likely all day long. Yesterday ( I thought would be too ) in the afternoon it quit raining and we had some sun. I don't think today will get much better -- so a long day at home and inside. Maybe a small trip to who else -- Walmart. That is now almost the only game in town to an extent. Some of the hometown stores have been here long enough to hang on --- but some didn't make it.
We have a new Super Walmart. Think I heard sometime back -- all new Walmart stores will automatically be super centers. Well, though I hate the fact that other businesses lose when Walmart comes to town I do have to say that it is a fairly impressive store -- and wow -- the grocery side of it is something else. We also have a Schnucks and an IGA grocery. I think they will stay but you can really see changes in things. Schnucks was really our premier grocery and now their are different brands available as well as lots of sale prices everywhere. The shelves aren't stocked to the bulging point anymore. I hope they can last --- we need the variety.

So far, not too bad here. It could rain a bit, but sounds like it would not be the huge downpours we have been having. Did let up yesterday afternoon so I could feed the feral cats and run on to Walmart --- you know they help me check out how my stock is doing -- or more like encourage me to buy plenty there so that stock will go up.
Anyway the carpenter has a solution ( it would last a couple of yrs. ) for our roof that would save it and our wallet for the time being. We would still need to take care of the roof, but at least could do a bit better on catching up and doing the insulation ourselves of the interior of the screen room. We can save the labor that way and it is not so big that it would take too long. One step at a time and we will get there.
We could see some sun today -- but I'm not looking for it to be very intense or of long duration. Just nice to see it lighter than it has been as well as nice to not hear thunder up above.
Hope you all have a magnificient Monday.

Sunny but chilly right now. Rain predicted again tonight (stormed all weekend), so will have to drive to the gym this evening and hope I get a parking space. Gardeners will do the cleanup/re-seeding/fertilizing tomorrow.

We all have such a marvelous opportunity in this life to evolve, grow, and move more and more toward becoming all we can be.At the end of our lives, who we are and what that has contributed to the process of healing the planet will probably be much more important than anything we have produced or done for money, fame, or power. We are a piece of the puzzle of the universe.Taking our place as the fullest piece we can be will probably be our most precious contribution. - Anne Wilson Schaef

It is my choice to care deeply about others.
No kindness is too small to be important -
the smile to the bank teller,
the sincere "thank you" for all kindnesses received,
the reassuring hand on the shoulder of a loved one or friend.
There is compassion in selfless generosity,
but there is also compassion in heartfelt empathy.

The real troublemakers are anger, jealousy, impatience, and hatred. With them problems cannot be solved.Though we may have temporary success, ultimately our hatred or anger will create further difficulties.Anger makes for swift solutions.Yet, when we face problems with compassion, sincerity, and good motivation, our solutions may take longer, but ultimately they are better. -The Dalai Lama

Joy of life seems to me to arise from a sense of being where one belongs. . . of being foursquare with the life we have chosen. All the discontented people I know are trying sedulously to be something that they are not, to do something they cannot do. - David Grayson

Couldn't decide today just which one so you get three:
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious

to breathe,
to think, to enjoy, to love.

Instead of comparing our lot with that of those who are more
fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot

that we are among the privileged.0 -

A person's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.
Just as gardeners cultivate their plots, keeping them free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits which they require, so may a person tend the garden of his or her mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts. By pursuing this process, a person sooner or later discovers that he or she is the master-gardener of his or her soul, the director of his or her life.

Our true home is in the present moment. To live in the present moment is a miracle. The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now.Peace is all around us—in the world and in nature—and within us—in our bodies and spirits.Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of practice. - Thich Nhat Hanh0 -
Hi there-
I'm posting a quick-ish hello too. I'm here because I need support for caring for my mom - she's probably doing better than me! She's going to have chemo, probably at the end of the month. It's all new to us. We didn't want to go this direction but the thought of her not doing it and then finding out she SHOULD have done it was a big motivating factor. And I'm dealing with running my own household, raising a family (and all of the stress), dealing with my own health issues (nothing major). How does one find joy, real joy, when there are so many things to juggle/worry about? I'm sure we'll get through it, but I just want it all overwith and have everything "back to normal". I know, who doesn't?
Thanks for listening....

That's tough dealing with your Mom's cancer, and when you've faced it yourself.
When I've gone through difficult times, joy has too been elusive. What I've looked for instead are those tiny moments that give you pleasure or fill your senses with wonder. A lovely smell, a sunset/sunrise, a song that touches you, a comment someone makes - whether a friend or stranger, the feel of a breeze against your skin, etc. These aren't "joyful", but give small pleasures that can get you though the hour or day.
Hang in there.

I believe one of our souls' major purposes is to know, love, and express our authentic selves. To live the life and be the person we were created to be. However, our true selves only emerge when it's safe to do so.Self-condemnation, shame, and guilt send your true nature into hiding. It's only in the safety of gentle curiosity, encouragement, and self-love that your soul can bloom as it was created to do. - Sue Patton Thoele

Kayla, Doxie is so right. Nothing big for the most part ever comes. It is encased in the smaller joys not actively searched for that produce for us a bit of a lift we don't expect. We wake up every day to a new chance and new beginning. You will have worry and you may get tired and feel discouraged but the seeds of change are inside of you. Every day they can be encouraged to begin to bloom and grow.
P.S. So sorry to hear this has been your path and is now your mothers.

I am so grateful for everyone here. I have one more question. For anyone who lives in the Chicago area, do you have any knowledge of The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment? I am looking to see if they are truly helpful for patients going through chemo. Or possibly if North Shore hospital's integrative services might be good enough? Or any other place that you recommend?
Much strength and happy vibes to all of you

Oh and if this is not the best place to ask that question please let me know. Thanks!!

Hopefully ChiSandy will see your post, Kayla23. She is from Chicago and I'm sure will have all the answers for you!

I'm a NorthShore/Evanston Hospital/Kellogg Cancer Center patient. NorthShore has some great integrative services, but there's not a huge array of them (there's weekly qi gong and mindfulness meditation at the Evanston branch of Kellogg Cancer Center—not sure what's offered at Glenbrook, Highland Park & Skokie).. There's also the Cancer Wellness Center up in Northbrook—almost all of their services, classes & programs are free. (They have various yoga groups, massage, aromatherapy and acupuncture). It is open to all cancer patients in the northern Chicago area. Block is a bit more controversial. True, they do have conventional adjuvant treatments, but they're mandatorily integrative—very doctrinaire about diet and supplements, for instance, and insist that you follow both their conventional and alternative therapies "to a T" if you wish to remain their patient. You can't get your conventional treatment at one hospital and go to Block only for their alternative programs—it's all or nothing. Some people swear by it, some at it.
