A leader is not one who says, "Follow me."
A leader is one who says, "I'll go first."
- Neale Donald WalschIf your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more,...
do more and become more, you are a leader.

However we understand our spiritual selves, most of us agree on how to foster them:through peace, silence, and beauty, in meditation, and in what some of us call prayer.Just as every bud aspires to be a flower, and as the flower holds the secret of the fruit, so we enfold the beauty of our spirits. If we nourish the spirit, we can grow to be our better selves. If we allow nothing to hamper its growth, our spirit will unfold. -unattributed

As you take a few minutes each day to quiet your mind, you will discover a nice benefit: your everyday, "ordinary" life will begin to seem far more extraordinary. Little things that previously went unnoticed will begin to please you. You'll be more easily satisfied, and happier all around. Rather than focusing on what's wrong with your life, you'll find yourself thinking about and more fully enjoying what's right with your life. The world won't change, but your perception of it will. You'll start to notice the little acts of kindness and caring from other people rather than the negativity and anger.
Jack Canfield0 -
Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life, is a silence vast and grand—an infinite ocean of calm, which nothing can disturb; nature's own exceeding peace, which "passes understanding. "That which we seek with passionate longing, here and there, upward and outward, we find at last within ourselves. -C.M.C.

Most true happiness comes from one's inner life, from the disposition of the mind and soul. Admittedly, a good inner life is difficult to achieve, especially in these trying times. It takes reflection and contemplation and self-discipline. -William L. Shirer

There is a rhythm in life, a certain beauty which operates by a variation of lights and shadows, happiness alternating with sorrow, content with discontent, distilling in this process of contrast a sense of satisfaction, of richness that can be captured and pinned down only by those who possess the gift of awareness. -Louis Bromfield

IllinoisLady- Thank you for the great quotes. I especially connected with the Brene Brown quote, something to live by.

SoulShine -- that quote seen late last night spoke to me a whole lot as well. We can see such a huge need for change and I pray we take this opportunity and use it wisely.
The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.
M. Scott Peck

To a happy person, the formula for happiness is quite simple: Regardless of what happened early this morning, last week, or last year—or what may happen later this evening, tomorrow, or three years from now—now is where happiness lies. Happy people understand that life is really nothing more than a series of present moments to experience, one after another. They understand and appreciate the past for what it taught them about living more in the now, and they see the future as more present moments to experience. Mostly, they understand that right now, this very moment, is where life is truly lived. -Richard Carlson

You have to leave the city of your comfort
and go into the wilderness of your intuition.
What you'll discover will be wonderful.
What you'll discover is yourself.

Are you balanced? Do you share your time, your energy, your life, as much with yourself as you do with those around you?. . . . Know your limits. You are one of the most important people you need to look after and love. Balance your time, your energy, your life with those around you. You'll be able to give more freely and joyfully as a result, and you'll be more open to the gifts of the universe. It's not wrong to give to others. But it's okay to say yes to ourselves, too. -Melody Beattie

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness,
and the word happy would lose its meaning
if it were not balanced by sadness.
It is far better take things as they come along
with patience and equanimity.
- Carl Jung

What we say and what we do ultimately come back to us, so let us own our responsibility, place it in our hands, and carry it with dignity and strength. -Gloria Evangelina Anzaldua

All of nature offers lessons on living, free of charge. One morning I noticed a dead tree supporting many living things--fungus, vines, lichen--which taught me that even after death we can continue to support those who live on. Living trees on our property teach other lessons. One tree has grown around a barbed wire fence. Another has grown around a nail, and a third through a chain link fence. These trees teach me how to accept irritation, absorb the pain and grow around problems. Nature teaches me how to find my place, grow toward the sunlight and bypass obstacles. To survive, we must be able to change in response to whatever is required by the challenge of the moment. Our bodies know this, but our minds often rebel when change is necessary.
Bernie S. Siegel0 -
Stop! Breathe deeply.
Begin bringing peace to the outer world
by regaining your own inner peace.
Choose love, choose gratitude,
choose forgiveness, choose peace.
Begin with your own inner peace.
Then use that inner peace
as a platform from which
to approach the outer world
with perspective, understanding, and patience.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie
If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another.

Listening is the oldest and perhaps the most powerful tool of healing. It is often through the quality of our listening and not the wisdom of our words that we are able to effect the most profound changes in the people around us. When we listen, we offer with our attention an opportunity for wholeness. Our listening creates sanctuary for the homeless parts within the other person. That which has been denied, unloved, devalued by themselves and others. That which is hidden.
In this culture the soul and the heart too often go homeless.
Listening creates a holy silence. When you listen generously to people, they can hear the truth in themselves, often for the first time. And in the silence of listening, you can know yourself in everyone. Eventually you may be able to hear, in everyone and beyond everyone, the unseen singing softly to itself and to you. -Rachel Naomi Remen0 -
Jackie, Gov. Pritker revealed his 5-phase reopening plan--we are currently in Phase 2 through May. Going forward, IL has been divided into 4 regions: NE, N. Central, Central, & S. And w/in the NE, by county. Cook will of course be the last to reopen (as it should be). Surprisingly, N. Central (Rockford w. to Galena, s. to Peoria, e. to Blooming-Abnormal...uh, Bloomington-Normal) will be the first...ahead of both Central (which includes Springfield and Shampoo-Banana...uh, Champaign-Urbana) & South (I think Centralia's "on the cusp").
Chilly & drizzly today, but I still got out to the drycleaners & Whole Foods. Lazy day tomorrow--not enough laundry to do nor garbage/recycling to dump, so will concentrate on kitty-care (I swear, they're like hairy little toddlers) and getting started watching my (mostly crushingly boring) MCLE videos. I can apply for a 3-month reporting extension, but since I've bought the videos (and already have 4 credits accrued from last year's trip to Israel), it shouldn't be too hard to watch 26 hrs. by June 30.

Sandy, Pulse ox- used mine for the first( and 20th) time Sunday,97, which I didn’t like, wanted 100. But then yesterday afternoon, it started at 98 and went down to 94 which freaked me. Sat outside front door and neighbor, who was Evanston Township High School nurse for 30 years, sat outside hers. We were about 15’ apart and Dahlia, our snowshoe Siamese, socially distanced between us. Debbie, the nurse, and I shouted back and forth and she said not to worry about the 94- it shifts back and forth depending on lots of things. I had 10 minutes before put more Nailtiques on, so maybe it was that. It scared me because I thought maybe the radiation had stiffened my lungs. This morning it was 99, then dropped to 97. So will stop worrying for now and start packing the one suitcase I can take to Glencoe for 6 months.Dahlia’s things will fill most of our car. We have 6 cases now, 3 nurses, 3 patients in skilled nursing. The move is complicated and more so, because Comcast has a Covid policy where they can’t go into homes. They will drop off two boxes when my DS opens door, but that’s it. When we get to house, DH, who can barely change a light bulb, is to call Comcast technician who will try to walk him through. What this means is that we will be without TV, WIFI, OR Computer for 6 months.I am trying not to get hysterical.
Glad, Sandy, you like “brown noise.”

Judy, the cable setup won't be as hard as you think. There are lots of YouTube how-to videos. DS probably can fish the cable from the alley into the wall. Moreover, worst comes to worst, you can switch to RCN which will still send out techs (with proper precautions). And I've seen GeekSquad cars out on the streets. Or cell data--pricey but not unthinkably so if you can negotiate a plan. Might want to order a tablet with built-in cellular, which you can then "tether" to a computer.
As for TV, it's amazing how well indoor antennas work these days--the little set in our attic guest room picks up over 60 channels (including WTMJ in Milwaukee). The broadcast network "O&Os" ("owned & operated," as opposed to the "network affiliates" in smaller cities) offer several digital "dash-channels" each.

You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love. -Henry Drummond

When I feel betrayed by someone, instead of sulking, clinging to my resentment and playing the role of victim, I am challenged to strengthen my soul through forgiveness. By forgiving the person who hurt me, I strengthen my soul. . . . each time we are called upon to forgive, we nourish our souls and learn more about who we are and what we have to share in this world. This is also an example of unconditional love.

Success is in the little things you do, and in the things you say. Success is not in getting rich, or rising high to fame. Success is being big of heart, and clean and broad in mind; it's being faithful to your friends, and to the stranger, kind. -unattributed

The ideals which have lighted me on my way and time after time given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. . . . The ordinary objects of human endeavor--property, outward success, luxury--have always seemed to me contemptible. -Albert Einstein

If I am walking with two other people, each of them will serve as my
teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them,
and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.

Thank you Rebecca. It is always nice to hear that continuing to put in quotes is meaningful to others. Back in 2007 when I desperately needed to share with others who had breast cancer, I found this blog. I had never used one before. Because I'm naturally a timid person, it felt overwhelming. Often I felt quotes said more easily the things I wanted to. A wonderful person ( who hosted the parties the Ill. ladies had at a restaurant in Schaumberg ) named Michele asked me to find a quote for everyone daily. It still feels just as right now as it did back then -- and the quotes still are far more articulate and inspiring then I could be on my own.
We should do what we do out of love without any need for recognition, but on rare occasion ( when someone like you is kind enough to mention it ) I admit it is nice to hear that an effort someone makes is appreciated. Thank you.
