Wow is all I can say.....you all look so good..........and so skinny.

Oh well, I too was skinny once.  Maybe, one of these days after all this junk is done.

Went to Salem for supper.  All you can eat....fish at the Tulsa House Cafe.  Wild !!!!

I still haven't found quotes....still look ling.  I saw the one by Christopher Reeves and sure loved it.  He was quite a guy.

Baby Boss has been fairly subdued since his little snipping too place.  Will have to see...would be nice to have a dog not so frenetic all the time.

Thought most of the day we would get a good soaker but nothing....and now at nearly 9 p.m. we are listening to a whole lot of thunder....guess something is coming after all.

Well, I'll yak at you tomorrow.

Due to be a sunny day they say....no rain for a change.

Blackjack-Sorry to hear about your mom. Will keep her in my prayers. And thanks for the lunch get together organizing that you do for our group.

Jackie-Hope Baby Boss is doing well. My Buddy has to have surgery again Monday for an ear hematoma that has recurred now 3 times since his prior surgery in Dec. Said they'd do this surgery 1/2 price- yeah right! Todays office visit was $165, YIKES!!!! Oh well, we have to do what's best for him to get him healthy. He's a Golden Retriever, so alot of allergy/skin issues.  (No more pure breds for me! Our golden mix has very few medical issues.)

Laura-Can't wait to hear about the elephant bling?!?

    Stay warm ladies-

You were up early Blackjack.  I'm sorry to hear that your Mom isn't doing so well.  It's terrible when your lungs don't work so well.  I'm hoping that a rehab will really make a difference and will be praying for her.

You are bound to be stressed and I'm sure that everyone here will be holding you up as high as they can in hope that it helps to ease your burden.

It's cooler today and will be for the next few days....bit of a bummer, but it is still Spring and that happens.  Maybe it will slow down the ticks.

I'll be wishing sunshine for everyone.

Mich we were posting same time.  Wow !!!! that's interesting that Buddy's hematoma keeps coming back.  The first dog I had when I got home here was a Golden named Reggie.  He was purebred and so very, very smart  I trained with him for a year and a half.  Anyway to make a long story short---he was so 'good' that my trainer talked me into letting him go with another trainer to live in New York and work there.  I cried for nearly a month before I let him go....but I knew in the end that he did have talents not being used and that he was often bored.  They are beautiful animals but purebreds are prone to certain problems...Good breeders cull out the problems or I'd hate to think how much worse it would be.

And wow again.  I thought I had it bad for vet's visits but $165.00 at one time.....of course, I'd do it.  I thought the $70.00 to get Baby Boss "fixed" was terrible.  I think I got off easy.

I will be hoping this next operation  takes care of the problem and I think they should do the operation for a third---after all Buddy is quite a repeat customer.

Ok, I'm going to really go now.

    Talk to ya'll later.

Hi guys!  Fun day yesterday as always!

Blackjack...so sorry your Mom is just not doing good.  Please know that both of your are in my thoughts today.  But I know any decision you make re: your Mom will be the correct one for you both.  Hard stuff ahead.....but hang on.

Jackie.....jeepers but dogs cost a lot!  I guess I never realized just how much.  All I have are about 100 teddy bears and they don't require much more that a hug once in a while.

Laura...thanks for the buckthorn info.  I had no idea, but then again I could have one right next door and wouldn't know it.

Jan...I agree...we NEED that new shirt..."Weird...it's the new normal".  Calling Laura............

Pat...was so great to meet you...finally!

Sure is cold here this am compared to yesterday but due to all the rain, everything is quite quiet.  New little somethings have been stuck in the front yard, no rhyme or reason and I do know that it is going to be very hard to mow around all this stuff.  At least I hope they are planning to mow at some point.  Never thought of that.

Hope everyone has a great weekend...nothing much up for us and with the weather, that's just fine with me....catching up on my reading sounds nice.

    Catch you all later......

    THIS IS AWESOME NEWS!

    Komen Champions for the Cure

    Dear laura,

Last week we told you about GINA - the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act - which if passed would make it illegal to discriminate based on genetic information.

This protection is critical, since testing for a specific genetic mutation commonly associated with breast cancer can lead to early detection and treatment - saving countless lives.

Now we have great news. More than 16,000 of you sent letters to your Senators in support of GINA, and it paid off!
Thanks to your support, the Senate unanimously passed GINA last night (Thursday, April 25) and now the bill just needs approval from the House and the signature of the President - both of which are expected to happen quickly.

GINA prohibits discrimination by health insurers and employers on the basis of genetic information. So now, thanks to GINA, women who would otherwise have avoided genetic testing because they feared discrimination - thus being denied information that could help them manage their health or their family's health - will have protections under federal law.

The passage of GINA is an important step that presents a great opportunity to promote personalized medicine and the use of genetic information in healthcare. This will lead to better research and development for new targeted drugs and treatments, which will save lives.

GINA will become the law of the land.  And you helped make it possible.

    Thank you for your efforts,

    Diane Balma

Hey! What good news about GINA!  See, we can make a difference, gals!

Wendy...loved your quote for the day!  How true!

Blackjack, so sorry to hear about your Mom.  I'm sure you'll find the best place for her.  It is so hard when the roles become reversed and we become the care-takers for our parents, especially our mothers.

O.K. Laura.......love the elephant bling!  I have a feeling that this story is a "goodie!"  Can't wait to hear about it!  By the way, how is the foot doing?

Leesa, that picture of you is gorgeous!  Simply lovely!  Were you modeling one of your new wigs?

Jackie, Susan is going to be excited when she sees all the quotes that you found for her on "HOPE."  There's some really neat ones!

With all the storms, my feral cat disappeared for two days.  I was really upset.  I figured a coyote had gotten her but she reappeared this morning and was staring in the glass sliding door at me.  I guess she just found a place to burrow in and avoid the high winds and rain.  I was so glad to see her.  It's amazing how much you can become attached to a stray cat!

Julie, how are you doing?  Have you found out anything new?

Well, it's cold here today.  We mowed and puttered around in the yard for awhile and worked some more in the bathroom..........no, it's still not done.  We're down to the wall paper border and the paint on the baseboards and cabinets.  All the major components are installed an working.  The countertop is tiled and the tile is down on the floor and in the shower enclosure.  New lights are up.  It won't be long now and I'll have pictures to share!!!!

Hope all of you are enjoying your weekend.  I think we're throwing steaks on the grill tonight and just chilling out at home. There comes a time when that really sounds pretty good!

    Catch you all later.

Rita - You are making great progress! Can't wait to see it!

In the meantime, here's some of my latest adventure:

Dining Room - Deep Red "ish"

Family Room and remainder of first floor - Mustard/Gold "ish"

Laura, your house is so pretty.  The colors are beautiful.  I love the cocoa walls in your sitting room.........and no clutter--oh what I'd give, but I'm working on it.

Rita I'm so glad your outdoor kitty is back.  Actually---with cats that spend their life out of doors, and especially the real feral ones....they are fairly resourceful at finding places to hold up during inclement weather.  They are not gluttons for punishment and can loll for a day or two until they feel the weather is more suitable.  I know this, but just like you, worry over the ferals when I don't see them all every day.

My friend Maggie has not been able to go back to feeding with me as her health is just not stable enough.  It's my daily chore now.  Not sure what I will do when it comes time to do my rads.  I think I can get someone else....Maggie has a gal helping her and she might be able to take it on.

My last chemo is next week---the 30th.  I am very happy about that.  I tried slacking off the Magic Mouthwash but seems I still need it.  Starting to think it's partly due to the season.  I know there is tons of pollen out there floating around....so I may still be using the stuff when I do my rads.  Whatever.  I will just be glad the chemo is over.

Leesa sure looked great for all her so recent chemo problems....way to go Leesa.

Blackjack is special for caring for her Mom.  It is one of our joys I think to give back to the one who gave us our fantastic start in life.  I wouldn't trade a second for all the gold in the world that I spent doing and caring for my Mom.

    See ya all later.

Thinking bout' all of you.....even if I didn't call out the names.

Jackie-Buddy did not have a good start in life. We were told he spent the first yr and a half mostly in a crate. He was adopted as a puppy from a grain/feed store (that sold puppies), by a family with young children and they did not have time for him, so he was crated often. The women was going to release him in a forest preserve, thinking someone would find and care for him, the golden retriever rescue place was full. An aquaintance of my husband, who was in the forest preserve with her dogs, told the women that she would take him. And after that we got him. Bottom line, his breeding probably was not good.(He is a little rambunctious too!:)

$90 of that bill is for blood workup/thyroid to try to get to the underlying cause of his skin/ear issues.

Sorry ladies, this was off topic.

Headed to the Botanical Gardens tomorrow am, hope it's not as windy!!!

    Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Well, it's very chilly outside.  Not going to be too much fun mowing the lawn out there but has to be done before the rain.  Wendy, I'm waiting to find out what kind of night you had.....or was it also too cold for planting--makes you wonder what they will do outside ( that seems the favored place to "have words", when all the planting is done.

Found our new neighbor has some baby ducks....ooooh.  Our big dog Buddy was over there checking it out....a long time.  I finally went over and found out the baby ducks were in a big pen.  I left to get Buddy's hook up rope but before I got it down he had come home.  I think we are still going to have to really watch him.  It's not a good thing.

I see we have a visitor up above back.  I'm not bothering with taking a look at anything.  Perhaps that will convince this party to move on.

Well, onward and upward for the day.  We will get rain later on this afternoon and maybe tomorrow as well.  Coolish temps both days too.....I want summer back.

    Good Morning,

Just thought I check in briefly to see how everyone is doing.

Leesa..sorry to hear that you are having tummy problems. I hope you start to feel better soon as you are leaving next week for a fun trip. Here is a big hug to you.

Wendy...how are the new neighbor's doing..have they finally settle down...maybe you need a gag order for them lol

Laura...love the colors you did in your home. They are very tropical.

Can't wait to see the rest ...how is your foot doing..hope it is getting better so you can drive that car real soon.

Smerf..how is your weekend going..ready to get going on those bathrooms yet.

Jackie..sending you a big hug as you get your last chemo this week...yeah all most done..then time to move on to the next chapter. hope you are feeling better.

Rita..did you pick a date for your lunch in June..please let me know as I will update the calender.

I hope everyone got the lunch bunch calender..Hope you all can come. Please let me know if you can..it will be fun.

As for me I am off again to look at more places for my mom. Her breathing problem is the same..no change..I am just so sadden by her health issues. I wish I could take them all away..but smoking did this to her..her own choice to smoke all those years..so I really need to accept that but can't. I hate to see her suffering and struggling to breath because of her stupid smoking habit years ago. So I am off again to check out a couple more places and then off to the hospital to check on mom. I hate being the parent and mom the child..Life is not fair as we all know. I get bc she get lung problems..this sucks..Sorry if I sound frustrated.. I just needed to vent a little and you all have good ears..so thanks for listening to me vent. This stress is getting to me..

I hope you all have a great weekend..enjoy the day..and thanks for being here..my circle of friends...

To everyone else I missed big hugs to you.

    Remember to be healthy..be happy

    Morning All!

Laura....your house is beautiful.  I'm like Mich101...I'm still builders White and it's been over 7 years!  One of these days....

Blackjack...I am so sorry about your Mom.  I've been there 4 times and every time was bad.  My in-laws when we had to move them out here, we did Sunrise in St Charles.  Very nice, and you can bring your own furniture to make it homey, 3 wonderful meals daily off a menu, snacks, goings-on, trips, lunches out, beauty shop on premises along with worship...etc.  I know there is one on Golf Road..have you taken a look?  And yes, they are pricey.  Strictly Assisted Living, but maybe an idea?  I researched them thoroughly before we placed my in-laws there and they were very happy for a few years  before my fil passed and my mil's dementia and physical needs made it impossible and she had to go to a nursing home.  Hugs, honey!

Leesa...did you try gingerale (NOT the diet kind) and/or fresh rye toast?  Old wive's tale about both, but they do work for upset tummies.  Just a thought.

YAY!!!!!  re: GINA.  I had done the testing last July and I was negative but this is so important for the girls (and guys) that follow me.

I'm a bit late today.  Only thing that was going on next door was that they decided to get a big hedge clipper and chop the heads off of all the dandelions.  And we all know how well that works when trying to get that weed out of your lawn.  But then I didn't mind that as the wind was blowing away from my lawn but my neighbor on the other side....her lawn is littered with dead dandy heads.  Stay tuned for the next update....and no, I really don't spy.  I am sitting in the FR, looking out the three huge windows and I can just watch this all unfold.

Have a great day everyone...I guess the weather will be nothing like last weekend.    Sigh...............

Blackjack....I almost said something in my first post...now I feel I have too.  It's hard not to stress and probably hard to realize at some point you will look back to now and be ok with all that is going on and even satisfied that you did what you could ( even if it's so stressful for you at this point ) to make your Mom's life here as good as it could be.

I will write you a pm.  My Mom passed on from emphysema in 1998.  I don't know if anything I say will help you, but I sure want to try.  Try not to stress out over all the work and do remember that with some of our older generation.....it was years and years before it was really clear about the damage done to people by smoking--and some hardy people never got problems.  I know we all should have known that nothing good could come from putting UN-natural substances ( like cigarette smoke ) into your body, but you start doing something....then find out you are addicted and not everyone can break the vicious cycle----just love your Mom because she is your Mom.  All the pain ( whatever it may be ) will pass away from today and now til' all that is left is the love of a mother for her daughter and the love of the daughter for her Mother.  Just hold on to that.

    Love, Jackie

    Good Morning:

Blackjack, sorry about the worries you face about your mom.  You bring up something, however, that could be relevant to some of our ladies, so here goes.

The Lance Armstrong Survival program I am under dealt with me on former smokers and breast cancer. Not to worry, smoking probably does not cause breast cancer.  I am a former smoker and was told this news.

There is a more likely (small) chance of developing lung cancer (not bc that spreads to  the lungs) if you are a former smoker, have the gene that pre-supposes you to lung cancer and received radiation as a treatment for bc.  I fall into all categories!  The incidence of lung cancer in my family among smokers is shocking.  We all know there are people who smoke all their lives and never get lung cancer.  They told me this not to terrorize me, although it did, but to alert me to the fact that I should get a routine test to pick up any problems sooner rather than later.  Of course I haven't done that yet and I thank BlackJack for bring this subject up on this thread so Ican do something.  This is not a regular x-ray, but something they could do not to check you before it is too late. If anyone would like more information, I an get it for you.  If you never smoked, no problem.

Blackjack, sorry to hear about your mom suffering.

I have not been able to keep up on the thread, as I have had out of town guests since Thursday.  I am off to my moms for dinner with some more relatives.

Laura & Susan you should be receiving your package for the Y-me walk.  I also received little goodie bags for the ladies.  Do you want me to bring them to the walk...will you have any place to carry them?  Also, we need to pick a spot to meet up at...we need to be at the start line about 7:30am for warm up and opening ceremonies.  ...yikes.... the start line is near the McDonalds Team vilage tent.  Do you want to meet infront of the McDonalds tent at about 7:15am, or any other suggestion?

Also, I am not sure about the Wednesday night dinner in May, as I play tennis that night.

Well gotta go.  Have a great rest of the weekend.

    Hi gals...

Dave has gone to Springfield to see his mom who was just moved to another room at the nursing center.  Like you, Blackjack, he has lots of issues with this but nearly as much stress as his sister has.  Why is it that the women in the family always bear the "brunt" of the responsibilities?  She has to be a saint and is a bc survivor, too.

Anyway, I usually go with him but have spent the day getting things done around here.  I did my favorite job this morning, smerf!  GROCERY SHOPPING!  All I can say is that I'm glad it's done.  Now I'm off to the library to return some books and hunt up some more research materials for questions.

Kater...where are you?  Check in when you get the chance.

Jackie...I wish I lived closer.  I'd help you out with those feral cats!  Mine showed up again this morning.  She will not let me pet her if I have food with me but the least little disturbance sends her scampering.  I'm so glad she reappeared.  It has been a long time since she stayed away for two consecutive days.

Laura, thanks for sharing the pictures of the sitting room and that gorgeous fireplace.  I love those colors.  I am a very color oriented person, too.  My dining room is mustard and a pinkish-maroon color and my office is grayish-purple.  The new bath is gray and black with a gray, black, and purple border.  Now that I see the end of the project, I'm really getting excited.

Blackjack, I will get a date to you this week.  I want to check with MaryJane and Ginny to see what works for them, too.  Jackie, you will be done with chemo then.  Do you think you could get to Bloomington and then ride on up with us?

    Leesa...hope you're feeling a little better.

Wendy...I don't think I mentioned how cute your hair looked in the lunch pictures!  :-)

Well, I need to trudge off to the library.

    Hi all -

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Sorry about your mom, Blackjack.  My mom is at Friendship Village - a hop, skip and a jump from Maggiano's.  It's a nice place.  She is in a garden home, but my dad was in the nursing home area for 6 months before he passed away from emphysema.  The caregivers there were wonderful to us.

Leesa - hope you are feeling better soon.  Chemo stinks!

Thanks for all the quotes, Jackie.

Wendy - no more neighbor stories?

We had a nice weekend - went to a 1st Communion on Saturday and just hung out and cleaned house today.
