Morning Girls... How is everyone on this cold windy day. I hope you are all staying warm inside. As for me I have been hit with the flu bug the last few days so I have been in bed. School was closed on Thur /Fri due to weather so now we have to go until mid June. I just don't like it that they tack on those snow days at the end. Oh well what can you do.

Jackie..soo glad your test results came back good. Yeah for you. Waiting for results are the hardest thing.

Juilet....new boobs for you...good luck, My MIL is also have surgery that day at ABMC for a kidney problem. Maybe I will see you there.

Wendy..cleaning closets is so refreshing..out with the old and in with the new.

Laura...did you like the dorm  room. Glad you were able to stuff all of  it into your truck lol I do not look forward to moving my dd this year into her new apt. Girls have way to much stuff. lol

Wendyty, Carol, Elfsong..hope you all are feeling better and resting. Take one day at a time. Sending you all a big healing hug your way.

Mich, Susan,Connie..good news on your tests..that's what we like to hear.

Nursejan..how are you doing and how is dh feeling.

Rita..are you feeling better. Florida is right around the corner for you. My ds called this am to tell me that it is cold in Fl today. But it should be warmer by next week.

    Hi Michele:

Glad all is well.  I too wondered about scans and asked the Lance Armtrong LiveStrong nurse I am with about it as she works with my onc (and a number  of oncs).  She said that my onc does not do routine scans for the following reasons:

    1.  They show everything and can cause  too much uncertainty, stress, and often, nothing  of any eventual worry.

    2.  He believes in reacting to symptoms before scans.  Apparently symptoms tell him more and the time from start to symptom does not worsen the situation.

I too was uncomfortable, but now i can live with this better.  I get very stressed with hospitals, and so I think I am better with this philosophy.

I am sure that cost plays into it too.  I have heard of people who "fake" symptoms just to get reassurance from a scan.  Not me, man. I am very happy with my three-week rule (used to be two weeks).  If the "thing" is bothering me  after three weeks, I see the doctor.  The LIVESTRONG people tell you what symptoms to worry about.

I hope this gives you some peace of mind.

    Good windy morning everyone....

Connie - I am still laughing about moving from Poopyland to Boobyland!! LOL!!!  Love it!

Blackjack - sorry to heary you have the flu :(  I hope you have quick recovery.  I'll keep an eye our for you at ABMC on 2/6.

Susan - my onco has the same philosophy as yours.  I like your 3 week rule too.  I think that makes great sense.

I started my low dose of Effexor & it has me a bit woozy/foggy, which should wear off after a couple of weeks.  But for now, I'm kind of spacy so I apologize for anything weird that I might say, haha.

Hi to everyone else - I'm ready to go retreat to the couch w/Buster for a bit.  Hope you all have a warm, safe, relaxing weekend.

    Hugs, Juliet

Susan.....good to read that it's generally symptom first and then scan.  I thought it must be that way as it seemed so few would get scans and felt their had to be another criteria to it.  I tend to wait on things  ---  often a little toooooo long sometimes so I might try and adopt a 3 week rule as that way I'd be less inclined to let things get out of hand.

What a time to lose the heater in the truck for you and Dave, Rita.  Hopefully it will be running great really soon.  Glad there was another car to use.  Can't imagine having to go anywhere w/o a heater in this kind of weather.  Hate to admit with my impatience though...I often forget to start my car and let warm so I'm nearly to the highway into town before it even begins to put out the beginning strains of warmer air.

    Ok....I'll be here later.
    See ya'll then.

    HI Ladies,

I had a bunch of pages to catch up on.  I have not posted in a while, but have been lurking.  I was getting somewhat freaked out about people being diagnosed around the same time as me and getting mets, so I dramatically cut my time on the board here.

Also, I have discovered playing Scrabble and other games online against other people.  My little guy likes when we play Yatzee.  I was off for 12 days during the holidays and my relaxation was putting my feet up and playing Scrabble online and watching Sex and the City DVD's that I got for Christmas.  For me, this was the equivalent of having a smoke and a martini.  I actually stayed up until 2:30 in the morning a couple of times playing.

It's a coincidence that scans are being discussed.  I am having a bone scan on Thursday.  I have been having some aches and pains, specifically in my hip.  I saw the rads onc this week and told her I have been having pain since about October.  The pain is not constant, and it is not even bad enough to take a pain reliever, and I would not have even thought twice about it if I did not have bc.  The dr. does not think it is anything to be concerned about, but she is not sure that I feel the same way, and she wants to me feel assured that it is nothing to worry about.

Thank you Wendy for recognizing my one year since diagnosis.  Sometimes I truly cannot believe what I have been thru this past year.

I am hoping there is a lunch in February, I will be looking to take a day off of work come mid February.  This winter has been horrific.  Between the treacherous driving and the mile walk to work on the slushy sidewalks or the frigid cold, I feel like I have run a marathon by the time I get to the office.

    Keep warm

Morning!  Yikes...what happened to our thaw?  It is 9 on my deck...and the temps do not rise back into the 20"s until Wednesday!!!  I guess yesterday was it.

Lisamed....I'm glad you checked in.  Smerf gave me WONDERFUL advice re: bone mets when my back went south last spring.  If the pain wasn't constant and it didn't wake me up at night it probably is NOT bone mets.  Thankfully I listened to her.  Does your hip pain go away if you stop whatever you are doiing that causes the pain?  It's not constant, correct?  So...IMHO...I agree with your rad doc...it is probably nothing to be concerned about.  We do understand too about not going on the boards....it's just human nature to read all the other threads and of course...that just gets us thinking.  Good luck on Thursday but I have a wonderful feeling that your discomfort will just be .... dare I say it...the cost of aging!  Not that you are old....but...aches and pains do start to come our way.

Rita....did Dave get the heater fixed?  Sure is cold out there to be without heat in the car, even for a short period of time.

Blackjack....sorry that the flu bug bit you!  How was the boat show?  Do any shopping there, did we?????

Juliet....glad you got started on the effexor.  Hopefully this will help you make fast tracks on the road out of poopyland.  I think too your next surgery will help heal you as well...

Jackie....what the dickens were you doing up at 5am?????  See...nothing gets by me!

Ginny, MaryJane, Karin, Leesa, LittleC....and JanClare too....are you guys ok?

Went to the library and stocked up so I think that's what I will be doing today...can't believe that our street is still all thick ice.  I haven;t done this before, but I am calling the village to complain.  If they had put some salt down yesterday, with all the weekend traffic we get...we would be down to pavement this moring.  Totally inexcusable.

Have a great day...and stay warm.  Spring is coming....I think.

Good Snowy morning everyone......sigh-at long last some snow.  Doesn't seem to have the apperance  ( just yet anyway ) of amassing any accumulation to speak of, but we will see.  Just in the last 5 minutes I've noticed some much bigger flakes.  I fear it will get too warm to really be able to be a sustainable snow.

Guess I went to sleep too early last night so was actually up around 3:30.  I just waited for a 'slightly more normal' time to post anything ---  and then of course, just a quote.  Thought lisamed might enjoy it.  I seldom go on the other threads -- figure if something goes wrong with me and another part of the boards addresses the issue than I'll become a major reader of that one.

Snow is all but stopping already so I will not get my wish of being able to enjoy a snowfall this year.....though more flurries tonight they say.

Hope you all have a very good Sunday.

    Good Sunny Sunday a.m. everyone.....

Wendy - love the pic.  You have some really funny ones!    I hope the village takes care of your street.

Jackie - if you want to see some snow, just come on up north & we've got tons of it to share with you ;)  I didn't realize the climate was so different between us.  Amazing, isn't it ?

LisaMed - Sex & the City - one of the best shows ever!!  I have every season on DVD & love to watch them over & over.  Good luck with the bone scan - if it helps to reassure you, then I say it's worth it.

Well, I've decided to stop the Effexor already.  I couldn't stand how I felt - it was making me feel like I had the flu, and I couldn't even drive, I was so woozy.

And - Since I found out I'm getting re-foobed - and have lost some weight - I'm truly feeling better.   And I'm looking into getting one of those artificial sunlight bulb thingies, and am also gonna start some Vitamin D.

May go see a movie with my sister this afternoon - although I'm sure we won't agree on what to see, lol.

Take care everyone - hope those of you who are under the weather are keeping warm & feeling better.

    Hugs, Juliet

    Lisa:

You made two good calls.  One, to take  break reading online and calling the doctor about your hips.  I actually did have a scan for hips about 18 months ago because I  was having pain and I was reading too much.  Again, the doctor said that bone mets are steady and do not go away and  would not be touched by over the counter medicines after a bit. I had the scans and everything was fine.  This disease plays mind games, and I think, that it is wise  to stay away from reading that plays into those games.  I need to take my own advise.  Wendy is right about human nature.  I sometimes think I would be able to cope better if I live vicariously through someone facing the very thing I fear. The cost for that is not living in my own moment.  So, good for you!

Good morning gals!  It sounds like everyone survived this past cold spell.  Dave worked yesterday morning to get the truck heater fixed.  He is a marvel.  He can fix just about anything if he has the time.  Anyway, now it's good to go again!

Juliet....we saw Gran Torino yesterday and it was excellent.  Wow!  It won't be long until you have those new boobs!  This month is really scooting right along.  Hope you find a good movie to see this afternoon.

Lisa...glad to see you back to posting.  Sometimes we all need a break from the boards. Like Susan says, our minds can be our worst enemies at times.

Well, I need to get busy.  I'm going to write a few questions this afternoon.  Dave has headed to Springfield to see his mother and I didn't want to be around her yet because this sinus infection is still not completely gone, so I have the afternoon to work here.  Think I'll also make a pot of chili to have before we go to bowl this evening.

Hope that you're feeling better, Blackjack.

Everyone have a good Sunday.  Check in when you can.

    Kater...where are you?

    Hi all!

It sure is nice to have some warm weather!  Can't believe I am saying 20 degrees is warm weather.

Mich101- my onc doesn't do regular scans either.  I sometimes wish that he would and sometimes not.

Back pain - I had some back pain before my last appt but it wasn't constant and it was getting a bit better.  My onc said that tells him that it is not anything to worry about.  Mets would get worse over time and would be very painful.

Spent the day with my mom today.  We hit Target, Rainforest Cafe for lunch and played some games at her house afterward.  The kids had a good time.  My son is going to Lake Geneva tomorrow to go skiing with his religious ed group.  He's excited.

Hope you are feeling better, blackjack.

    Hugs to everyone!

    Good Evening Everyone,

Connie, I agree that this is a heat wave we are having. But you will be sitting on the beach real soon and enjoying the hot weather. I hope you have a cosmo for me on the beach lol

I went to the boat show today stuffy nose / head cold and all and I felt soooo much better sitting on the boats and having a cosmo. lol  Oh I can't wait for the boating season to start. It is almost  here. Wendy, they had these great colorful beach chairs displayed in a Hawaiian setting that were calling our names. lol I saved the best chair for you. lol  Oh and  they even had a really cute cabana boy there. He really was hot!!!! lol We stayed downtown and really had fun. Surprisingly it was not that cold down there... It must have been my hot flash.lol

I hope that everyone who is feeling not so well..you are getting plenty of rest and staying warm.

To everyone else I hope you are having a great weekend. Off to put on jammies and have tea time. Take care and remember to be healthy....be happy.

Morning!  I see we had a little light dusting of snow last night.  I usually don't whine too much about winter but I am just tired of it all.  Snow, cold, wind, ice, more snow, bitter cold, and more snow, snow, snow.  I did send an email yesterday am to the Village re: the streets but by 2:30 my street was down to the pavement at least on one side so I was able to get my baby out and charge up her battery.  Of course, she's all dirty and white now...but she will be pretty soon.

Blackjack....sounds like you had so much fun at the boat show!  I am glad tho you saved me a chair...but how come you got the cabana boy???  Meanie......

Lisamed....we will have to get Blackjack on board re: a lunch bunch date in Feb. but Iknow she is sneaking out to LV again so we will have to work around her heavy travel/fun schedule!  LOL !

Nothing much else to report around here.....we just stayed in yesterday and ate veggie soup.  I read and DH watched football.  When I was out yesterday I did stop at Bed Bath and Beyond and saw those "strap perfect" thingies...the ones that you put on your bra straps in back so you can hide them under summer tops???  They have infomercials all the time.  They were quite a bit cheaper, but you only get 6, vs nine....and who the heck needs more than one anyway!  I will let you know if they work.

I am back at the gym today...I only made it once last week due to weather and doc/hair appts...all this sitting is not helping my butt one bit!  Hope you all have a wonderful day...I did see that HGTV is doing a marathon of House Hunters International....love to see all those beautiful beach houses...wish one of them was mine (or yours, and I could come visit!)

Good Morning.....Happy Martin Luther King Day......when I opened up my Google homepage they had a pic of Rev. King there.  Nice surprise.  Anyone getting excited about events tomorrow.  I have been exited for at least a week.  I expect to have an eye on the t.v. a good part of the day tomorrow.

Got a very, very thin layer of snow ( only non-lasting flurries during the day ) that started toward evening.  It's not very exciting but at least I can no longer claim that we haven't had snow this winter.  Well, there is still time to have one nice one......we will see.

Dh is off today so will be underfoot.  I think a trip to the grocery store will be on the table....need coffee for sure.  Haven't anything else planned.....maybe I'll make chicken with home-made noodles....one of my childhood comfort foods.  Couple of my friends could be counted on to DROP by....was comforting to them too.  If I get to the store early enough....

Hope you all have a relaxing and quiet day.  I'll be checking in later.

Good morning everyone!  I'm getting a late start this morning.  I just can't get into action.

Connie...I'm like the kids.  I like Rainforest Cafe.  Mary Jane introduced me to it on one of our shopping trips.  So glad that you had a "girls' day" with your Mom.  I really miss my Mom this time of year.  There's just nothing like a Mom!  :-)

Wendy, what good books did you discover at the library the other day?  Anything that I should read?  Lately I've been reading a lot of light "fluff."  I seem to go in spells about what sounds good!  Mary Jane gave me a book that I'm going to crack open this afternoon after I start digging out summer clothes. It's only 10 days and I get to escape this cold, white, winter wonderland for a few weeks.  At least Dave got the heater in the truck fixed so he doesn't have to drive around in frigid temperatures.  He's pretty good at fixing things!

Elf song....did eating the steak help?

Blackjack....when do you leave for Vegas and how long do you get to stay?

Well, I think I should get moving and try to get something accomplished today.  I hope all of you in treatment are doing well.

    Catch you later........

    Hi all:

Yes, Jackie, I am excited about the events for tomorrow. We are watching as a whole school community, with each grade in a different place.  The kids got to order sandwiches in advance as it come on at 11:00.  What a day!

I have a zillion things to do today and I am getting off to a very slow start.  We went to Jane Addams Hull house on the  South Side yesterday and there were tons of African Americn kids on field trips.  They must be especially proud of national events.

Wendy, those comics are getting more hilarious.  I loved the  "penogram" one and showed DH who yelled OUCH.  Most men cannot even visualize what a mammogram is like.

Lisa - Good luck with your scan. Thought this might help: I too had hip pain. Had a CT and it showed some Arthritis...my pain is the same as yours...not constant and not bad enough for pain meds...hang in there! I remember feeling the same way when I looked back at the year of my treatment, masts., etc. I kept shaking my head and thinking MAN...what the heck...did all that really happen?! It was somewhat surreal. I'm convinced it's part of the healing process...one step at a time. You did good!

Juliet - Glad you're feeling better. It is good to know, however, that you have a "crutch" just in case.

Wendrew - OMG - I was just about to order those strap "things"! I am so glad you posted that...I can save shipping costs and they're cheaper there! Thanks Girl!

Jackie - One of the girls in my chemo support group received an invitation to tomorrow's events. She is upper management for the Red Cross in NY. She's reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally excited!

Rita - You lucky duck! How fun... digging out summer clothes... good for you!

Susan - I still think you would make a great CASA... when you retire. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...think about it.

    Hi Ladies!

Well TX #3 is tomorrow, and with that one done, I will be halfway through chemo!  I started feeling well around Saturday, and feel really good today, so my cellulitis is getting better as well.  Washed floors, dusted, vacummed and generally picked up around the house today.  Then Jim and I went to the grocery store and got stuff for me to eat this coming week.  Jello, tapioca pudding, ice pops, chicken soup and such.

So, if you ladies don't hear anything from me, don't be worried please!  I'll be reading, but should'nt have much to say, as I know that I'll be feeling pretty crappy.  Besides that, I start the Nuelasta on Wednesday.  Can't say that it sounds like too much fun.  I have lots of movies to watch, plenty of bland soft food, so I should be feeling good in about a week.

    until then........Take Care!    Carol

Morning!  The big day is here...I will put out my flag in a bit.

Laura....the strap thingies on TV you get 9 plus the tape...$19.99 PLUS I think 6.95 s/h.  I got 6 thingies, the tape...for $9.99.  Bed, Bath and Beyond has pretty much all the "seen on TV" stuff.  They also had that hook thing that you can put on your cell phone so you can hang in on a belt loop...2 for $9.99.

Carol....you are at the halfway point, and three is a VERY small number.  I know it doesn't seem like it, but think back to when you were dx'd and how much road you have traveled already.  It really is going fast...you just don't notice it.  How's your DVD collection?  Do you need 24?  I have the first 2 seasons....

Blackjack...back to school for you today.  How's the flu?

Smerf....any deer watching for you lately?  I trust your furnace is up and humming happily along.

Rita....they are usually out but this time I was able to pick up just about all of Jodi Piccoult that I haven't read which was 5, and the new James Rollins.  I do love his books...real page turners!  So...nothing new actually...just new to me!  Have you ever read Rosamunde Pilcher or Maeve Binchey?  You should pick up one and try it...if you love it, you will actually buy these books and reread them.  I just love them all.

Jackie...so you got some snow, did you?????????  I will send you some of ours...gladly.  I heard on the weather last night that we are getting "significant" snow on Monday.  I don't like the weather man anymore.

I am finally alone today....DH has been underfoot since last Wed. afternoon.  It's not so bad during the summer when I can shoo him out the door but what the heck do you do with them when it's 20 below!!!!!

Time to get off my butt...more coffee, then shower, then FLAG...then off to the gym.  WhooooHoooo...2 days in a row!  The furnace wasn't working there yesterday and it was 52! Hopefully that has been taken care of by now....have a great one ladies!!!

Wendy - I love Jodi Piccoult as well.   I was at the library last week looking for a good book for my trip (5 hour plane ride).  I grabbed Perfect Match.  I also picked up another one at Barnes&Noble as I had gift card - I think that one is Change of Heart.  Last summer I read 19 Minutes, My Sister's Keeper and 5th Circle (I think that's the name).   I have never read a Koontz, so don't worry about passing that one on to me.  I started the S. King book, but couldn't get into it.  I usually only read in the summer as I don't have much time during the school year.

Good luck with chemo this week, Carol.

I have some hip pain as well.  I thought it was from the Tamox as it started on my left side right when I started taking Tamox.  Now, my right side hurts some times.  It is usually only when I am lying on that side in bed or rolling over in bed.  No sign of it during the day so not worried about it.

Blackjack - we went to the boat show a couple years ago.  It was fun.  I remember we got kicked off a boat because my son was being his usual rambuncious self and climbed out the "sunroof" that was in one of the yacht bedrooms and was standing on top of the boat where he shouldn't be.   Definite safety issue, but I remember the guy being a real jerk.  Other than that, the kids really enjoyed the RV's and fishing ponds, etc.  Definitely looking forward to boating season.

My sister is in DC and is having the time of her life.  My BIL knew a MN congressman and was able to get 2 tickets so she went with my niece.  They picked up the tickets yesterday after standing in line for hours and discovered that they were given 4 tickets.  So, my other niece and her friend flew out last night at midnight.  I would never want to do what she is doing, but she is really into politics and is over the moon.  They have tickets to some ball tonight.

    Have a great day everyone!

"Wherever you are is always the right place. There is never a need to fix anything, to hitch up the bootstraps of the soul and start at some higher place. Start right where you are."

    Julia Cameron

Good morning everyone and anyone who thought I would be glued to my t.v.  I was while awaiting the limo ride to church.....but now taking a break to get things done so that I can check back in for the morning coffee with the out-going ( can't happen too soon for me ) President.  I know that a really rough road is ahead, but I an hopeful, more so than I have been in a long time.....that in time we will have a turn-around and regain much of the respect we use to enjoy.....and that we will become much more united together  ----  it will be wonderful if we can all dream again about what could be and go shoulder to shoulder to do it.

Now then....Carol / Berrypatch...keep up with those white foods which will help so much the next few days and as Laura says.....you will get there.  In my imagination ( since it's now been awhile for me too ) I seem to recall just sort of spending days where I thought very little.....just a mechanism that helped me get through.....I was thinking --- if at all in getting to the next hour or sometimes the next five minutes and not anything past that. That is when it is really time not to worry about anything that is left.  I will be thinking about you and sending get-through well vibes just like everyone else....COUNT on it.

A few flurries through the night and again this a.m. but nothing excitable at all.  It's due to warm up fairly well though so nothing will last.  We have been known to have surprises.....so anything is still possible.

Well, I have a couple more things I have to do --- getting dressed is one of them and I will have to scurry out later and pick up my check and go to the bank....and run back to the store for something that I forgot.  Should have made a list I guess...keep thinking my mentality after chemo is better than it really is I guess...sigh!!!!!  Well that is ok...as I am here and can complain about it.

Have a fantastic day....I will be checking in later of course.

    See you all then.

    Jackie

    p.s.  Hi to all

I am just taking a break....but I must say as tears still crowd and push at the back of my eyes that this is all I expected.  I have been so ready for change.  Though I am normally fairly apolitical and vote only for who I think is best --- no matter which party, I felt we had lost so much by the events of the last 6 years.  I saw a video clip just seconds ago.....it depicted slaves coming to this country on ships.....to President Obama.  In one segment it showed a place where there was a sign that denoted the area has ONLY for black people.  I witnessed this in action many times and even then it made me feel funny....and a little wrong.....even though I had not done anything.  I am proud that those of my generation were able to elect President Obama and know it was a good thing.  I have had at times feelings of prejudice for which I am not proud....but I don't feel them now.  I know that it is love and care for all in the final analysis that will bring what is worthiest to have to all people regardless  ---  and I hope to embrace that just as much as  I did many years ago at the age of 18 when I saw those horrid signs that made me feel I was doing something wrong to someone.  And I do hope very much that we can repair the previous years and become once again extremely effective as a nation and move forward proudly.  I hope we can love enough to grow well and strong.  This was definitely a thing of high spirit and beauty to me.  History is humbling and I'm so thrilled I saw it happen today.

    Another fly by me.

Yes, Jackie, I have told my students about the signs, the rules on the buses, the separate but equal Jim Crow laws and they don't believe me.  We reserarch for photos on the internet and they still cannot believe that happened in their country.  They really cannot believe I watched sit-ins on TV as a teenager. They get  testy and say I should have been a Freedom Rider and not a Northbrook girl watching it all on TV on the six o'clock news. Frown The idea of lynchings and the illegality of  inter-race marriage are just way too out there for them to really comprehend.  I did show portions of ROOTS (remember that series?).  So much of it is not acceptable for the general student viewer, but I edit enough so they get the picture.

I will not tell them your name or how I know you, but I may, with your permission, read to them your reflection later this week, as it represents a reflection of so many our age.  Sound okay?

Thanks for sharing those thoughts.  Meanwhile, ladies, what did you all think of the speech.  Some at school had such high expectations, that they were disappointed.  Some said that it made them well aware that we are facing very somber times,  as it was somber but honest. I watched it with 90 hormone-saturated 14-year olds, so I did not get much.  I will try tonight again.
