Scrap2book/Marcia.....I'm with you. The rain is really getting tiresome. We may get a bit more tonight, but I don't think it will be the pouring down type.....more like a quick soaking shower and then gone, if anything. It has cooled considerably and the oppressive humidity has vanished so I am delighted about that.
We were minus power yesterday for a few hours. I really hate that.....spoiled I guess. I like to open the fridge whenever I want.....and have my hot coffee, and use my Internet. Just a short while ago.....at least until I was in third grade....we had no car, no tv ( no one did in our town ) no automatic washer...and an outhouse. I was almost a pioneer.....actually didn't get a car in the family until I was n 7th. grade. That is a little more about small towns.....and we have a septic tank too at our house.....but no trouble when it rains, thank goodness.
Hope you all had a good day today.
Hugs, Jackie

Waving from the lake today. Well we had a very interesting lighting show up here over the last few days. Rain and more rain, lighting and booms all night. This morning it is very cold, wet and foggy. Ok I am done with this weather....need my sunshine. My mom lost power in Park Ridge and had to go a nursing home because of her oxgyen level. Only a temp stay until power comes back on it a few days at home. Glad to see that everyone is safe and sound.
Jackie...glad to see that all is safe by you. I am sure you were worried about your animal friends out there.
Lago.... good luck on your up coming surgery Friday.
Marina....glad to see that the baby is feeling better. I know that when I started back at school I caught everything until my immune systeme build up an immunity to all those germs. Baby will build up an immunity too. Looking for colleges was a fun thing to do. I wanted my dd to go to Depaul to be close to home. Went to Iowa, walked on campus and fell in love with the school. You will know it and feel it. It was a right choice for her. Now she is living in the city and enjoying the city life. Hope you are feeling better too.
Laura....just checking in on how you are doing. hope all is going well.
Wendy...did you put your beach chair away. or did it fly away with this weather. lol.
Zap...did you every hear about an online book club. did you lose power too.
Joan...loved your city pic on fb. glad you had fun and a good health report too.
Just a quick hi to everyone else I missed. Hope you are all doing well with txs.
Well I gotta run. Need to get back home today and check on mom so have a great day. Try to stay dry everyone...need the sun fairy.
Take care, BJ

Quick question to all you book worms out there. Which is better a Kindle or a Nook for reading? Need to get a bday gift for mil who likes to read...need some suggestions / pro's and cons for each.
Thanks a bunch

My friends have kindles but I am not sure they are better. You tend to like the one you have. Nice chart on the bottom of this link that compares.

Lago.... good luck with your exchange surgery tomorrow. You are going to be so relieved to get rid of those darn TE's. Hope that everything goes well.
My one week post-op with my PS went very well yesterday. He is very proud of his work... me too. My DH decided to tag along into the city yesterday. We walked over to Navy Pier thinking we were going to celebrate by riding the ferris wheel.... closed due to high winds. So hopped over to the Shedd where there was one very long line waiting to get in. So, we ended up spending a few hours at the Field Museum. Neither of us had been there for a few years so that was kind of fun. Tonight, we are headed to Ravinia to the KD Lang concert. So glad that my date sprung for reserved pavilion seats so we can stay dry and a little warmer.
I hate to admit that I have not read a good book in a long time. Seems I spend most of my day reading and analyzing the fine print for clients.... when I have time for a break, I just want to get out and be active. One day, I hope that I get back to reading again. The rest of my family are all voracious readers.

Good Luck, Lago.
Joan, only went to Ravinia once. Beautiful place. I was with a group of great friends and we had good eats and drinks. Glad to hear that you have pavillion tickets. We didn't and it just didn't make sense to me to attend a concert but you can't see the band and can only hear the music through the speaker attached to the light pole. at least the weather held out for us.
Hello to everyone.

Thanks everyone. Can you believe I'm still cleaning? I did get my power walk in this morning. Not sure what to eat for my "last supper." My surgery is scheduled for 7:45am. I am first. Need to be there at 6:15am. At least I don't have to put on make-up or decide which earring to wear.
Joan. Good to hear you are out and about 1 week out. I don't want to be sitting around for a long time if you know what I mean. 4-5 weeks of shingles not doing a thing really got to me.
I'm currently reading "The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer" We'll see if I get through the entire thing… I'm sure eventually I will. I think that might be it for me on the cancer reading list for a while.
BTW you can download the kindle ap to your PC if you want to read kindle books and don't own a kindle. There are some freebees. Not sure if it was someone here who mentioned this or on another thread.

Lago...thinking of you today and hoping that all goes well for you. Good luck!
I do not have either a kindle or a nook. I'm still that old-fashioned gal that loves the feel of a book, and especially a hardback book. I got my daugher in law a kindle for Christmas and she loves it. She travels alot with her job and takes it all the time.
Where did our summer go? Boo hoo! Hopefully the day will brighten up a bit and we can golf this afternoon. Right now it looks rather threatening here. It needs to clear up quickly as my yard needs to be mowed soon or I'll need a hay baler.
BJ...hope you're enjoying your "summer" vacation. We need to do a sun dance to entice the sun back out for we "sun" people.
makmak...so sorry that Gabby is still sick. Hang in there. It's so tough when the little ones are ill and cranky. Hugs!
Well, I'm off to get something accomplished here today. It's been such a hectic week that I haven't had much down time to challenge and beat Susan on Jungle Jewels! Yep, she's still ahead of me AGAIN this week. I'm just sure she has a secret strategy that I don't know!
Hugs to all of you.

The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character;
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings...
As the shadow follows the body,
As we think, so we become.

Lago....good vibes coming to you.
Marina....healing hugs to Gabby for you.
Rita..hope you get your sun -- sounds a little iffy our way....sun and clouds...a little of each today.
Bj....enjoy.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Michelle -- might check out consumer reports for a comparison of eBook readers -- I heard that they evaluated them recently -- and the nook might have been their recommendation.
So happy to have internet access back! The weather hit Downers Grove really hard, we just got the internet back this morning, and went about 24 hours without electricity. I was caught in the car duirng the storm -- very scary!

Lago - Sending good, healing thoughts your way!
Susan - Speaking of Kindle, I just saw this offer for a free Kindle on Hotels.com, in case you're already planning on booking any hotel rooms for upcoming stays.. http://www.hotels.com/deals/kindle/
I have the Kindle 2 (the latest is 3) and I really do enjoy it. I figure I've owned and enjoyed more than my fair share of "real" books over my lifetime. I bought a wonderful leather cover for mine from oberondesign.com - THIS ONE, and it's crazy how much I love it. I also have a mini-light that clips to it so I can read in bed every night. I really don't know much about the Nook, but I'm sure it's also great. I would try and compare average book prices though. We gave Kindles to my Dad and my In-Laws for Christmas, and they're all using them now. It's really convenient to give them Kindle gift certificates now since I have such a hard time figuring out gifts to get them!
I have the Kindle app on my iPhone too, so if I'm ever away from home and want to read, I can pull up my kindle list and read it that way if necessary.

I have the Kindle and like it a lot. But recently got an iPad and am planning to download the Kindle app on it - so the Kindle may end-up sitting on the shelf. I never used a Nook but work with a guy who has one and he loves it - you can download library books to the Nook at no charge.

Thanks to all of you for helping me with my ebook dilemma. I am leaning towards the kindle as Rene said you can give gift cards which I like. I also like that it comes in white.! My ds has the iPad and he loves it. Ohhhh so many decisions on this techy stuff. But I am learning. lol
Glad to see that everyone survived that bad storm we had. I was up at the lake and boy was the lighten show great. It light up the sky like fourth of July. Lots of wind and rain and flooding. All I can say is that I need some sun and hot weather now. My tan is fading fast.lol
Lago thinking of you today. Hope all goes well for you. Remember to rest.
Adey...how is the running going. Are you feeling better?
Lisa...glad to see that you are all done. Now it is time to start enjoying life. Cheers.
Jackie....how was the rain by you. I hope not to bad for you. How is Maggie doing.
Rita... yes I am enjoying my summer. I have been so busy with traveling and up at the lake that I feel I need more time off. he he I have not gone golfing yet...but will soon with weather permitting.
Makmak...hoe the baby is feeling better and you too. how are the headaches. did you get any answers yet.
Laura... sending hugs your way. Hope all is going well.
Wendy... how are you girl. we need the lighthouse look out for you.
Well happy Friday to all. Looking forward to some nice weather this weekend I hope. Have a fun filled weekend. The Taste of Chicago is starting.. yep there will be lots of food to sample. yum.
Have a great evening. It's jammie time for me.

All went well yesterday. My PS did some fat grafting but only a little because he claims he couldn't find enough fat. I to might be doing more at the nipple reconstruction. Maybe I'll start eating more of my cookies.
I was told I got 400cc implants. I think that was the largest he brought in.
I'm still sore but expect to feel better in the next few days. Nausea it gone from the anesthesia thank goodness.

Today looks like a winner!
Lago, glad to hear you are doing well. I loved that video. (This is the Day). The accordion is so cool.
Rita, there is no secret to JJ. It is how much you play and you are the winner this week as you played less! Very addicting game.
Makmak, hope baby girl is now all better!
Today is clean up the year day. Due to the storms we have leaf debris all over our yard.

Good morning.. Finally some sun and with it a recovering baby!! She seems better and fever is gone.. just a runny nose and congetstion.. but that I can deal with.. now of course DH got it.. UGH.. never dull around here..
My headaches continue, but I think they are no longer constant.. I did email my Onc last week he said he is not alarmed based on what I described but will do an MRI if it continues.. So, I'll talk to him about it at my next appointment in a week and a half.. for now I'm too busy dealing with everyone and juggling the kiddies to worry about it.. LOL
Lago, glad things went well for you!!

Hi everyone, thought I'd introduce myself...new to the forums this weekend and Adey pointed me towards this topic seeing I'm from IL. (thanks Adey!!). I'm newly diagnosed with IDC (April) and post BMX w/ TE's (6/14/11). I'm 35 years old, have an almost 8 year old daughter and an 18 year old step son (he's lived me and I've been his "full time mom" since he was 12) so he's only biologically a "step" child.
This whole journey so far has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. I'm still meeting with oncologists to get my chemo in the works, I go this week into Chicago to meet with my team there to discuss what my referral oncologist told me (6x TAC). I was originally told my sentinel nodes were clean (freeze test during surgery) and they came back at me this past Tuesday that it was incorrect and 1/3 came back positive.
Anyways, Here I am, not happy for any women having to be on this BC journey but so happy to know I'm not alone, which is how I felt at the beginning.
Reading everyone's posts here is inspiring, you are all so strong and up beat, which is just what I need. My family has been incredible but they still don't quite "get it" completely. I know 2 month ago I also didn't get it, until it smacked me in the face!!0 -
Madismommy Welcome to the Illinois ladies thread. Sorry you have to be here but these women are awesome. It can take a while for family to "get it" some never do. I hope that's not the case with you. There is so much we didn't know when the journey started.
Wow you travel all the way to Chicago for treatment. I live here in Chicago so I don't have much of a commute. I'm at Rush (as well as a few others) which is 5-6 miles away. I think that even if your team is in Chicago you can get your chemo/rads closer to home. You might even be able to get your chemo at home after the first round… some insurances will pay for that.
