Illinois ladies facing bc

Thanks Laura! I have been everywhere on line and the only coupon I could find expires today.
Madimom: I did the same thing with my long hair. Had my longtime hairdresser give me a short bob that i had for about a month. I loved it. I don't think I will ever go back to the long hair style.

Ladies....thanks for the warm welcome! I can't wait to have more time to read your posts and get to know you all! We are moving for now to St Charles...near Aurora and Geneva! I would love to do a lunch outing! I am so excited as I have no family/friends in Chicago. I had one friend that lived there but she is not living there now but looking to move back. Since we are all going to be neighbors...I thought I would introduce myself. I am married with a 5 yr old son...I am knee deep in planning a Harry Potter birthday party on Saturday right now....ugh! We put our house on the market here and we had 2 offers in less than 24 hours...house sold immediately - just waiting for the appraisal and inspection this weekend. We have visited Chicago twice in the last week looking for houses......that has been painful. We are leaving a beautiful home here and due to cost of living we will be downsizing significantly there and have to buy something that needs fixing up I imagine. Oh well....it will be OK. I am 45 and very much into fitness....I teach aerobics and will be looking to teach when I arrive. Any of you workout gals? Any good health club recommendations out my way? I am a Lifetime Fitness fan here in Detroit and the closest one appears to be in Warrenville....which is not so close. Any similar type health clubs near St Charles? I have not looked into that yet. DH and I love to cook and travel...I was a huge wine fan before BC...now I indulge much less (boo!). I am Italian and love to cook...oh and eat! I am now following the Anti Cancer type diet which is no fun. I had a BLMX in January. I completed chemo in May and did the cold caps to keep my hair. I had exchange surgery for my implants 4 weeks ago. I am quitting my full time job (as a surgical sales rep) when we move!!! Woo hoo! I am going to pursue my own business, teach aerobics and be a good mom/wife....no more full time job in sales (thank God!). For now I am swamped...DH starts his new job Monday. We leave on a 9 day trip to the Outer Banks next Thursday (with 5 other families to celebrate me being done with treatments and surgery). We move 2 days after our return (yes, we are nuts!). I should be in Chicagoland by Aug 18th or so...school starts the 24th! I can't wait to get to know you fine ladies..... Thanks for making me feel welcome. I know I will be homesick for a while...

Mdg...I am the next suburb N and Madismommy is next suburb S. I work out at Fitness 19 but they have no classes. St Charles is beautiful...we actually pay our taxes to them rather than South Elgin and kids in our subdivision go to St Charles' schools. It is beautiful out here in the Fall along the Fox River! My GP is Family Practice/Peds and is in a group in St Charles. My nephew and his kids have been going to him too...the kids since they were born. If you need a name, just PM me.
I read about cold caps but AFTER my hair fell out! LOL0 -
Irene - I can truly understand your concern. Best wishes that you will find peace with it all.
FoxLakeJenn - Glad you checked in...
MM Jenn - PHOTO PLEASE! lol

Hi to everyone...look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow. For those who cannot attend...we hold you in spirit! lol HUGS TO ALL!

Mdg....there's a ton of Xport fitness centers around here....and there's a very big one in St. Charles. Has all the classes and amenities,etc....I believe St. Charles has the Norris rec. Center too....with the indoor pool, health club, racquetball, etc......and check the one at Delnor hospital in Geneva....that is supposedly state of the art and all the amenities. All 3 of this should be pretty close to St. Charles, which is one town from Geneva btw!!!

I've lived in this area my whole life so any questions you have just ask away!0 -
I've read about cold caps but I fear I won't be able to see it through....but man would I LOVE to keep my hair!!!

Hi everyone!
Mak thinking of you and hoping for good test results.
Maria/Wendy - What are cold caps?
0 -
Madisonsmommy: It was not that bad...I took Ativan and it was not uncomfortable. I iced fingers and toes during taxotere to avoid neuropathy and that was 10 times worse than wearing cold caps.honestly. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks for the information....I will check it all out. I am so glad we will be nearby!
Thanks Wendy!!
Michele: cold caps are frozen caps you wear during chemo to save your hair. It freezes the hair follicles so chemo doesn't reach them. It is just like icing fingers/toes to avoid neuropathy. I have had thinning and shedding, but still have a full head of hair. I am still shedding but finished chemo on 5/4. I am glad I did it. I am sick of my hair shedding though.....I did lose all other body hair except on my head so they work...at least they did for me.

Just a quick hello... Biopsies went well this morning.. Been icing my boob all day as I bruise easily.. Decided to come out and play with all of you tomorrow since Laura has graciously offered to drive.. I can pretend all is well for at least a few more weeks!!
0 -
Mak, glad to hear they went smoothly....now we all pray you get some good news!!!!
I really wish I could go tomorrow and play too.... It'd be great to meet everyone face to face....and have a salad bar before I'm told I shouldn't during chemo! BOO...I'm a huge salad eater!0 -
Madismommy I was told at chemo training I could eat everything. I even ate sushi. I did get the nuelasta shot though… and generally salad bars to scare me chemo or not chemo. I never eat things from a salad bar that have mayo or don't look fresh.0
-
Lago, I hope that's true!!! We eat a lot of salad and fresh fruit at home and I heard that they were big no no's for me with chemo.....I guess the bacterias that could be on the peel, skin, leaf, etc.... I'll have to wash everything several times cuz I really don't want to give up my salads!
0 -
Mad- Me too. I ate any fruits and veggies I wanted. Maybe washed them a bit more thoroughly! My tastes did change a lot. Maybe you won't want salads... or they'll be the only thing you can eat!
mdg- Welcome. I'm in the western suburbs too, just not quite so far west. Good luck with house shopping and your move.
Good morning all and hope no one was affected by yet another crazy rain.

makmak....So glad the biopsy went well and that it's over. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for good biopsy results. I'm so glad that you're going to join the lunch bunch today! Have fun!

Hope this is true:

equal or greater advantage or benefit."

Mak....I too am hoping for good biopsy results. Good for you going out with the gals. Great way to "relax" while waiting for your results.
Mad....eating. Well, I've probably said it way too often here, but I didn't eat much while the chemo was actively working. However; afterward, when the cells stopped dying....my system demanded tuna fish on toast.....and I always gave in, rather readily actually. Figured what the hey....what's a little mercury poisoning now, eh!
I did mess up my taste for water for some time.......that has generally always been my favorite drink pretty much. But....all good things seem to return. I do fine now with it now....but in this heat I do flavor it with some Lucianne tea now and then.
I'll be thinking of you all at lunch today and eagerly awaiting whomever is the designated photographer.
See you all later,
Hugs, Jackie

I was told to def. not eat fresh veggies/fruits for 3 days after chemo, and def. no sushi! It's due of course to bacteria...it was only 3 days tho. Then I could eat whatever I wanted til the next round...neulasta or no new neulasta! I think every onc decides this in his practice maybe based on what the science is plus what had happened in his own practice. Once again...do what you feel comfortable with....but wash everything triple!!!!!

Have fun at lunch today. Wish I could join you but can't break away from work to come up north. I am however, sneaking out at lunch for -- get this -- a HAIRCUT! I'm rocking the Jamie Lee Curtis look right now, but it needs a little shaping. Fortunately I have worn my hair super short before, in my twenties, so I'm comfortable with this style and will leave it like this for awhile.
Still on the fence about leaving the grizzled grey or coloring again. I'll need some opinions next time we get together for lunch.

Way to go Lisa......Jamie Lee Curtis has always looked good in her hair.....so I bet you look fantastic too. If my head was just shaped a little nicer I'd be very, very interested.....especially in this heat.
Don't have any thoughts on color. I ( thank you.....up there somewhere Gods of color ) had my pigment come in shortly after my hair started coming back. I was nervous, but back it ceme......actually a little darker brown than it was.......lighter would have been ok with me.
Hugs, Jackie

BTW the only thing I didn't eat was cookie dough… and I make lots of cookies. I didn't want to push it but Teri specifically said I could eat sushi when I asked.

Hi ! Lago ! how are you ?Do you have any interest on Indian cuisines.

What an incredible surprise I got today delivered from Rita and Grant. It is amazing to feel so loved and supported by all of you. Words cannot express the feeling when I opened the card. Your generosity humbles me. I can only say thank you from the bottom on my heart. It was like receiving a huge hug from each of you.
I celebrate each one of you and the blessing that you are to me!

Glad you felt that hug WendyTY! There were a lot of them in that card for you. We are all thinking of you!
Wendyk - thanks for the advice on Hawaii with the young ones. I am going to remember that if I ever feel compelled to take them there. That makes total sense about being bored at night and my kids definitely like to whine! Well, DD likes to whine. If DS is bored he just focuses his energy on annoying his sister (then she whines more)! Glad you made it back home safely.
I was also told I could eat anything during chemo. I didn't feel like eating much because I had horrible mouth sores but I actually gravitated towards fruits. Lemon ice and popsicles were my friend!
Hope you all had fun at lunch. DD and I were packing for Disney today. We are all set to go in the morning!
Lisa - I remember that first haircut - it was so short but it really made a difference to clean it up.
Hoping for good results for Mak!
I will see you all when I get back!

Hair.....I just got mine cut very short (a little shorter on the sides than in my picture on my profile) It had really grown out and was actually getting heavy on top.....so it was quite an adjustment again.
Last saturday it was so hot I just could not deal wth it...I really like it....it is so easy and so much cooler and easier to deal with especially after a dip in the pool. I do color it since I get that dingy grey right by my temples...

Hope you all had a great lunch...wish I were closer I would have loved to join you all.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Everybody looks awesome!!!!
And you know what I really love....There's no sign of the BC "black cloud" over all your heads, I have a hard time outrunning mine.... looks like it was a great lunch!!!!
WendyTY...I think we all would have popped (zap, my spell check changed this to pooped and I barely caught it! LOL) out of your card to give you a real hug if that were possible....maybe Bill Gates will invent that next? Glad we could brighten your day.....0 -
MM - YUP...WE ARE ILLINOIS GIRLS AND WE'RE TOUGH!
