Hi Robo!  It is nice to meet you.  This is a good place to be if you have to be anywhere with BC.

Wendy, good to have you home again.  I wish I could see your hair.  I bet it looks just lovely.

Lago, we went to that Indian restuarant and the food was good.  I just love most Indian food.  We had three glasses of wine at our table so that was the groupon!  The bill was $55  for two with the groupon  (and the tax) and the ambience was not great.  Probably a deal if it was a carryout order......or no wine. DH just found another Indian place on Golf.  Jackie, I am reading another book by Dr. Weiss and seriously am wondering if I lived in India in my past lfe. I admire saris for their color and movement. Have you ever had one of those "regression" exercises?  I hope I am not alarming the new people.

Today is grandchildren day.  DD is pregrant and off to the doctor.  This one looks like a go.  I went to the library and got all these great books for children starting school. What would be the abbreviation be for granddaughter.  GD (????) or DGD  of GC.  Anyway, mine is starting preschool and is shy so we need to get the girl ready for the big time.

I told BJ that my cousin called me and told me her DD (age 39, single) has BC. I told her about  this whole organization.  She does not live in Illinois, so perhaps she will find a place  where she is comfortable.  Right now she, along with her parents, are in shell shock/  Once again....prayers!

    Have a good day!

    Susan

Zap we really need to do lunch at SabrIi Nihari (Pakistani) on Devon before I land a job. Just ate there this Saturday. No alcohol though. I don't even think they let you bring your own. Muslims don't drink. So inexpensive too. We always bring home left overs. No way can one person eat one dish.

Morning everyone.  BJ, Susan, Rita....notes will be coming.  Just got to find some time.  I think I have too many animals that need to be adored now and then as I don't get done what I'd like too.  Do need to say....I'm intrigued by the talk of Indian food.  We do have Indian nationalities here, but no restaurants....so I don't think I've ever eaten that food.....or is so was probably way too Americanized.

Robo  welcome and glad you were able to find us.  It is a great group....lots of help and understanding......and once a month or so, get togethers at a nice/fun restaurant.  Your in good hands here.

Hmm, Maggie.  Well she is still in the Manor.  Isn't it wonderful that they have such great names for a nursing home....though this is a newer one?  She ( this may be partly age ) is at that stage where she complains about nearly everything.  I'm sure she has no idea how wearing that can be ( mental note to myself....quit yur bellyachin ) on those trying to love and help her.  I still go daily to her house twice and the Manor on my way home.  Hopefully, we are coming up to decision time......going home perhaps. Would be a help to me of course, so I try not to think about it too much.  Will have to start her car again......will have to take her to do her driving test.....she is the age where she has to do it yearly now.  Her license expired since she has been in the Manor.

Robo....pardon.  Maggie is a friend and I help her every day.....sorry about tmi.  Probably need to include all of you here.  Making you live my life even briefly.

Well I think it is time to get started.  Will see you all later on....when things settle out a bit for this going to be a hot one, day.

    Hugs, Jackie

Lago, I  did not know Pakistanis are Muslim and thus, do not drink alcohol.  My Buffalo Grove  Indian restaurant was obviously owned by an Indian who is not a Muslim.  They even had Indian beer!   I went to school near Devon (Loyola) many years ago and remain  faithful to the neighborhood.  I could do lunch on a  Monday or Thursday in August as long as you do not mind that my 28 year old daughter joins us.  I promised her a lunch on Devon as she is fascinated with the sights and sounds of the place.  Anyone else interested in a lunch as Lago explains our food choices?  It needs to be Mondays or Thursdays for me and lunch vs dinner.

Hope all is well!  Today was one very happy day for me. I hope it was a happy dayt for each of you.

I'm free next week the 8th, 11th, following week the 15th then I go away for a week (to eat clams and chowdah). Of course your daughter can join. Who else wants to go? (The majority of Pakistanis are Muslim but not all).

I'm back downtown next week, I think the 11th (is that a Thursday?) but we might be pressed for time....otherwise I would come eat lunch too. Although Indian food and Muga scans might not get along??? LOL...keep me posted on plans and maybe it'll work out???

Thunder brewing and a fricken tornado warning one county west....my daughter's starting to freak out already. Hold on tight ladies.... Hopefully it's not a twister auntie Em!!!

Gosh ladies, I can't wait to move and be nearby!  I have never had Pakestani food...only Indian and it was not for me. Are they similar?  I would imagine they are... We have tons of Indian food here in Detroit.  My favorite food is middle eastern and Lebonese food.  Any good places for that around Chicago?  We have the best here as we have the largest middle eastern population outside the middle east here in metro Detroit. Kabobs are available just about anywhere here.  I will miss my favorite restaurant here.  There has to be good middle eastern food in Chicagoland somewhere.

Robo: I had chemo too and finished in early May.  I just had exchange surgery too in late June.  You can get through it...I know it is no fun.  It feels better to be done..you will get there!

Madisonsmommy:  I hope the weather is OK!   WHat you get today in weather, Detroit gets a few hours later....hopefully we will have a calm night too.

I leave on vacation Friday.  I move to Chicagoland two days after getting home....I guess then I should change my profile to indicate I am in Chicago and not Detroit anymore....

WendyTY -- so happy for your news.

Makmak -- glad to hear that you have some relief after talking to your onc.

Thinking good thoughts for both of you.

These storms sound pretty threatening tonight... for a change I made it home before they hit.  Twice this summer I have been out and about during really bad weather, glad to be safely tucked away at home!

I love Indian food and would love to join you guys, but it won't happen this time.  Keep in mind that once September rolls around, I will be taking my son to rehearsal at the youth symphony downtown most every Saturday... he will be dropped off at 10am and picked up at 1:30pm, so I'm hoping we can squeeze in a lunch or two!

Just trying to catch up before heading to bed tonight.  Food seems to be on everyone's mind.  I am still trying to lose the 10 pounds that crept on in the last year so, shhhhh, please.  But, of course I am always up for lunch.Wink

Welcome to Robo... my BS and PS are at Northwestern.  And welcome to Ellasmom... so glad that you both found this wonderful group of very supportive ladies.  So much help here with everyone in various stages of this journey.

I braved the heat and played golf this afternoon with my ladies league.  We got called in off the course when the thunder and lightning started, but it was a brief storm here and produced little fanfare and rain.  I was hoping for a good soaking so that I wouldn't have to water all my plants before flying out tomorrow.  Now, just one more thing on my "to do" list besides packing tomorrow morning.  Will have to try to keep up with you ladies while I am away the rest of the week.

EllasMomhey --- welcome to our corner in Illinois of BCO.Org.  Glad you found us.  Don't recall anyone else from Springfield, but I do think there are a couple of gals who may be close. It may be a bit for the gals to find your post and say hi....but they will.

I did A/C.  Didn't like it.....but then I don't think anyone likes chemo.  The first one is usually the hardest.  Normal to feel fear and apprehension but most I think see it as rather anti-climatic afterwards. Do you have a port?  I got mine in IV's.....all 8 of then, 4 A/C.....4 Taxotere.  Anyway, we will be glad to stick with you closely and help you get through this.  It lightens the path when there is someone to walk it with you.

Hope to see you back here soon.

    Hugs, Jackie

Morning! First storm missed us completely but at least we got tons of rain with the 2nd one so no watering for me. 75 and cloudy this am on the deck but still humid...really hoping to open up some windows today...

Ellasmom...welcome to the group nobody wanted to join! Like Jackie said...not too many of us from your area but we've been where you are, medically speaking! If we can help...and we can...post away! And if you ever just want to come on here and vent, cry, scream...go right ahead! That's what we are here for!

I've had very little Indian food but Devon Ave is waaaay to far for me! Hope u girls get a chance to partake!

    Joan...safe travels! I'm guessing u won't have to water! :)

Mak...how are things going? Thinking about you and waving...

Bit late today so will catch up later...have to shower and fix my beautiful BROWN hair. DH said I look sexier with darker hair but I looked best bald ...... awwww....I think I will keep him!

*wave* to all!!! Good morning everyone, well....I slept like crap again and woke to my neighbors dog barking outside my bedroom window at 6:15 am....so, more of a bad morning for me? That dogs STILL out there bellowing... Almost 2 hours straight..... Something's gotta give with my sleeping, now my tailbone hurts from putting pressure on it every night, all night.....boomerang pillow where are you?

Ellasmom and Robo are with me in the Aug. Chemo thread....Hi ladies!!! :)

It's my stepsons 19th bday today.....we bought him a laptop to take to college in 2 weeks....expensive present but he needed it. He's going to be excited I think? And than I bought him all his bedding, towels, etc for his new room....and some clothes. :)

Wendyk.... Your DH is sweet.... Mine keeps telling me how much he loves me, whether I'm hairless or not....I still wish my hair didn't have to go. :(

Mak...hope you are doing well, I've been watching for an update.

Lisa, sounds like you were right in the storms too....hopefully it missed you though!!! We got tons of rain quickly but nothing too crazy. I don't like when the tornado sirens go off at all, plus they are 2 blocks away so it's really loud and scary!!!

Mdg.... So, you move here in just a couple weeks?? Enjoy your vacation first though. Are you going anywhere special or is it a "staycation"?

Wow!!!!  What a great thing for Dh to say Wendy.  He really is a keeper.  I still adore your first avatar picture for the same reason.  Wish it would rain here......but due to be cooler tomorrow they say ..... 91  woweeee.  That will be great.  I'm sure I'll notice a major difference there.

Mad... it is painful to lose the hair.  Didn't I read somewhere ( probably right here knowing me ) that wearing a cold cap on your head during infusion will prevent all your hair from going.  Something about the hair roots being too cold to suck up the chemo or something.  Hope I am not giving you some sort of false hope, but felt like maybe I should just mention.  Happy B-day to your step-son.  He should be going off to college a happy camper with all those great goods you and his dd are providing.

Waving a big hi to everyone else.  See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Hi there.. have to run to my appt.. but a quick update... I have had 2 sessions.. basically I lay under a lamp that is put next to the part with 'issues'.. and it's supposed to alter the tissue and hopefully get rid of my 'issues'.. My Onc scheduled a PET for next week.. so am crossing all body parts that it shows improvement.. or perhaps a 'miracle'..

been reading on another mets site a lot of her2 women who are in remission for YEARS on herceptin.. and keep wondering why wasn't I... especially with the vaccine on top.. keep now questioning if any of my supplements counter-acted it.. though I was assured they didn't.. I guess this is normal... UGH...

Gabs is in daycare all week and my Mom gets her ready in the morning and my DH takes her.. I hear it's a nice day back home and my older two are off to Great America.. as we sit here wondering if Storm Emily will touch here as a Hurricane by Friday.. not what I want to deal with... but at least I'll get all my treatments in!!

Hope all are having a good day.. Off to Miami this afternoon.. so I'll be reading on my phone...

makmak  I have read that you shouldn't eat grapefruit when on Herceptin. My onc never mentioned it though so I'm not sure if it's one of those rumors. I have had 2 grapefruit accidents. 1 after my 1st treatment. Just a few bits in a salad. (Didn't know it was an issue at the time). And another about 2 months ago. Was eating a seafood salad and found out later they made it with some grapefruit juice. (Was not happy. Ingredient wasn't listed in the menu).

I am taking my post treatment celebration trip to the Outer Banks with five other families. We rented a mega house with a pool near the beach. We had this planned way before we had any idea we would be moving. I don't know how I am going to get the move organized since the truck comes two days after we get home. Good times.

We are available the 18th for Pakistani food.  Let me explain my  interest  in this experience.

While growing up, my daughters and I had Wednesday Ethic Cuisine Night.  We would choose a different ethnic restaurant.  We did not go every Wednesday as you know how that goes with teenage daughters and their schedules, but we loved our adventures (all fairly suburban to be sure).  We never hit Indian/Pakistani food as frankly there weren't any then (lots now), so I promised Mary that I would one day take her to Devon.  Then Lago told me of her knowledge, and I thought it would be great if we had someone on board who actually knew about the foods!  BUT I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND if this does not work for you, Lago.  I am going with her on the 18th for lunch and would love it Lago, or anyone interested could join us we we try to bring Wednesday Ethnic Cuisine Club alive!  I know....the 18th is a Thursday and not a Wednesday....but some times  you have to fudge a bit.

I am about to go to the Cancer Wellness Center here in Northbrook.  I am attending a three-day seminar on how your thinking can affect how you feel and how to pull yourself out of negative thoughts.  It could be a total bust, or it could be good.  If the latter, I will share whatever I learns.

Lago, Cape Cod sounds great.  My DD just returned from a family trip there.  Loved it!

It is so hard to plan what with summer coming to a close, so  Mary and I are going to Sabri Nihari on the 18th and immerse ourselves in a tasty event without your expert guidance on what is yummy.  I looked at the menu and it all looks good.  If you have a suggestion, let us know.  I will let you know how it goes.

The first two hours of the seminar was good....all about what stress does to the body and how to quiet the body, mind and in my case......get some quiet time at night without the busy mind which could be causing those nightmares.  Unfortunately I also learned that pills such as arimidex can cause sleep disturbances in the form of  nearly non-stop dreaming,,,,has to do with hormone levels.  I still have time to go on the armidex...so we will see. Nice to be with men and women.  The men offer a different perspective.  We all have or had cancer but it is referred to only indirectly. Good experience!  Two more to go.

I get the Frontier Chicken with basmati rice. Also get the vegetable samosas. Husband gets the Chicken Tikka Boti with regular nan. Chicken Makhani is also great but don't get that and Frontier Chicken.

Really one main dish and an order of samosas (with rice or nan) is more than enough for 2 people. We bring stuff home. I'm sure the other dishes are good too. I need to try a goat dish some day. The  owner is very good at recommending stuff. He was the one who recommended the Frontier Chicken. BTW I do ask for less oil in my dish. They are very accommodating. I wish I could have joined you.

This place always is busy on Saturdays. We were there this weekend at 9pm. Still had a 10 minute wait!

LOL at how this thread has been food related for 2 days.... :) We're a hungry bunch.... And, we went from skinny dipping to ethnic food....which I now have a taste for some Chinese food for some reason??? We weren't even talking about Chinese food?

Mak...glad to hear you're doing well and things are rolling along!!! I hope you don't get stuck in a hurricane, UGH!
