Home is the one place in all this world where hearts
are sure of each other.  It is the place of confidence.  It is the
place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the
world forces us to wear in self-defense, and where we pour out the unreserved
communications of full and confiding hearts.  It is the spot where expressions
of tenderness gush out without any sensation of awkwardness and without any
    dread of ridicule.

    Hi Red,

Ever since I was diagnosed with cancer they have done the diagnostic mammos and if needed an ultrasound- I was told they do it for the first five years after diagnosis. (I am in the IL west suburbs) I have to admit, this fall I will be going into my forth year and I will be nervous when they don't do them for me! I will be on pins and needles if I have to wait a few days for them to be read!

Illinoislady, your quotes are so nice. I don't always post, and you have been here a little bit before I came here in 2010. It is nice that you are still doing them.

I love gardening, but haven't been able to do much the past few years, In the last week my daughter planted some flowers for me and they look so pretty! It was cool last week so I hope they do well in this heat!

We can develop gratitude for all conditions, good or bad.  Each has its necessary place in our
development as healthy, happy people.  We
need the sorrows along with the joys if we are to gain new insights.  Our failures keep us humble; they remind us
of our need for the care and guidance of others.  And for every hope dashed, we can remember,
    one will be realized.

Yes, hope for tomorrow --- I am something of an old-timer now and oh how I love saying that.  Likely I have loads of company in wondering/thinking/ feeling -- after hearing the three very dreaded words about what was going on with me -- just how LONG I had.  Well, as so many have found -- a good life awaited me, but as you said -- not totally free of apprehensions --- especially around test time and yes.....after going off the Al's and some of the other milestones we get to reach.

Of course, I'd have rather NEVER to have had to hear the big C word in relation to myself, but at the same time -- I do have to admit, it has so enlarged my world and gave me so much empathy for those who take this journey.  In fact, it has helped restore the empathy I had for people and their problems in general - whatever they are.  I think in my overall complacency about life -- it took something big ( isn't too many things in my book bigger than cancer ) to shake me up and assist me in remembering that life is a gift -- and the price of the gift is to do the best we can.  Some times it is pretty good, some times I miss the high mark.....but cancer did wake me up and help me to see that whatever it is.......we are all in it together.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life,
is a silence vast and grand--an infinite ocean of calm,
which nothing can disturb; nature's own exceeding peace,
    which "passes understanding."
That which we seek with passionate longing,
    here and there, upward and outward;
we find at last within ourselves.

A darling young mother once gave me the idea to tack up these letters
where I will see them— TICDAABGC— and make a list underneath:  “Things I Cannot Do Anything About But GodCan.”  This reminds me there are always
things we can’t change, but we can get on with our lives and leave those things
    to God.

Many people tend to think of giving only in terms of grand
gestures.  They miss the simple openings
of the heart that can be practiced anywhere with almost anyone.  We can say hello to someone everybody ignores.  We can offer help to a neighbor.  We can buy a bouquet of flowers and take it
to a nursing home, or spend an extra minute talking to someone who needs our
time.  We can take ten dollars out of our
pocket and give it to someone on the street.
No praise, no hushed tones of holy generosity.  Just give, smile, and walk away.

Today is a unique and special day.
It is unlike any other day you have ever experienced.
If you assume that today is like every other day,
you will never notice today's uniqueness.
If you practice keen awareness, you will get
to savor today's uniquely wonderful qualities.

The task is to recognize that you are uniquely special, have something to give, some talent no one else shares in quite the same way. This gift needs to blossom so we can appreciate and enjoy the benefits of it and acknowledge you for it.  You owe this to yourself and to all of us to honor your gifts, for only when you share your unique joy with the world does the entire world benefit.  Every advance humankind has known has come because of someone's effort.  Don't let shyness rob you and the world of the power and the passion that lies within you.  No one can be all that you will be except you yourself.  Follow your passion.

Morning....we had some major storms yesterday and last night.  Dh said it poured through the night.  Hoping all you up North did fine.  We are really having a WET year so far this summer.  I'm glad for the rain but coming to fast, it doesn't soak in and just beats a path for the lake.  I'd imagine ( I won't be using the highway for anything today ) that a lot of fields near Crooked Creek are inundated and may be wet for some time.  Seems the creek leaves its banks always when we have these longs hard spells of pour-downs.  We are about 4 1/2  hours south of Chicago.

    Blessings

Not sure what time it hit Bloomington, I woke up around 4 a.m and I think it was raining. Neighbor said she heard the thunder but I must have been out like a light..... Good day to pull weeds. Pulled about an hours worth without my gloves, so my nails are a wreck....but I am not happy unless Ihave dirt under my nails, at least that's what my Mom would always say....

Just catching up!!!   I have been at the lake for the past week!!!  Loved nearly every minute of it!!!  We saw fireworks on the 4th and 5th by boat!  Yesterday, on our last day there, both girls got up on the water ski trainer!!!  It seems a little crazy to see a 6 yo behind a boat on skis!  They love it!  I am so glad, what would I do if they didn't like the water???

Well we did gave some minor distractions...once again, I got a sinus infection and ear infection.  Had to go to prompt care in Osage Beach, MO....MD was very kind. I had to take the 6yo, she was bleeding from her ear canal!   I'm still not sure what that was all about.  Ears are her Achilles heel...tonsils/adenoids with tubes at 2 1/2 , perm tubes at 4, sinus surgery at 5, ugh!!!  Per MD's, tube and ear drum looked ok.  He gave me antibiotic drops for her and checked her stuffed monkeys ears, per her request.  Looks like yet another ENT visit on our horizon...  Anyway, as we left, MD hugged me and wished me best of luck on the rest if my treatment.  It made my day...a total stranger hugged me when some of my closest friends haven't picked up the phone.

My faith in humanity was restored today. The girls and I were traveling from Lake of the Ozarks to St. Louis, impromptu girls trip to American Girl store.  We stopped in Kingdom City MO for gas. Some how, I dropped my Von Maur card at a gas station. Some kind soul turned it in to the gas station. They in turn called Von Maur and they closed the account!!!  They then called our house and left a message to call to get new cards with new numbers!  I am so thankful, this could have turned into a nightmare I just don't need right now!!!

I have forgotten my purse in a shopping cart 3 times now.  Each time it was returned in tact.  It does say something about human nature.  I had loose cash and never would have missed some but they took nothing.  One woman was in a panic because my meds were in the purse.  She called the library, it was the only way she could reach me.   She was a poor woman.  We gave her $100.  But she gave me so much more!  The knowledge that there are still good people in the world!

What a wonderful stories gals! There are amazing people in this world and we are truly blessed to come across them in our lives.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I have a busy week coming up, Monday I'm having SI joint injections to hopefully relieve some of my back/hip pain. Then Tuesday, and excisional biopsy on my right breast-yep a lump there that I don't remember feeling before. The mammo and ultrasound said scar tissue from an old biopsy, but Dr. Widerborg wants to be on the cautious side and get it all out and tested, which is fine by me since neither of us trust mammos anymore since they never saw my cancer until it spread to my lymph nodes. So any positive thoughts you can send my way will definitely be appreciated! Looking forward to meeting some of you on Thursday!

I found your stories so gratifying this morning.  There are some very wonderful, extremely ethical and moral people inhabiting this good Earth.  So often we are exposed to the other kind.....on T.V. or in the newspapers, and who hasn't experienced that moment of deep, and fearful dread when it's discovered a mistake has taken place.  I mean there are so many ways ( even through the Internet ) for someone to GET your information.

It is such a humbling time ( we do tend to think the worst far more often then the best ) to find that someone willingly does the RIGHT thing -- with no thought of reward from you...........just adding to their own sense of decency, fair play, honestly, and a clear conscience.

Life has struggles for us -- sometimes over and over, but how wonderful when we are given the beauty of the everyday love of life that exists as well in strangers, who have no idea of your struggles.....but wanting and needing to do the right thing just because it is right.

    Blessings

    Jackie
