When I was going through the change of life and even after my Hysterectomy I never had any hot flashes or anything like I had always read about...now I know why...I was loaded with Estrogen. So now they are going to try and lower it because my aggressive cancer just fed off it. That is why the Vaginal dryness= no estrogen.
Lisa: Your mom sounds just like me. I had fibro breast and a lot of cyst too taken out. I sure bet the hormone replacement did push her along and I think they are finding that out with us HER2+ cause my onc doesn't even want anything estrogen in me. The Arimidex is to hold it back . I took the generic testing also and it was neg. I am so sorry you lost your mom as I know it leaves a big hole in your heart that can't be filled. Your Mom has always been there with you from day one and the loss can leave you feeling your lost without her. You are going to have a different outcome by not taking hormone replacement.
Cakelady: What planet are you on. We both go to Kaiser and now I hear you are going in for a dressing change? Don't they teach you how to do it? Do you have bulbs on the end of your tubes? Maybe you have a different kind. I had to empty mine everyday and measure the contents.
Anne: Good for you sweetie. I know I felt really down with my dx of the lymphedema too. I am not getting any pushing on wearing the sleeve so I need to get busy and check into it. Like we all have been learning by sharing all our stories that sometimes things can be missed. Cakelady is a perfect example of that happening.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend...I'm going out and look at all those beautiful spring flowers coming up. I will be thinking about you Cheryl when I do. Yours will come soon...

Deanli~ Way to push thru to get Chemo #3 Congratulations on your half way point.
I am finally coming out of treatment 3 fog but I caught a cold from my 3yr. old. It was really bad on Tuesday but my immune system is doing a great job in getting rid of it. I got a phone call yesterday from my PA from my onoclogist office who had to call and give my insurance company a hard time because they only want to give me 12 zofran for the month.
BTW, I had to edit this because my brain was someplace else earlier.

Lisa, what a handsome fellow he is - you look great together on the beach.
Cupcake, cakelady is going in to get her PICC flushed. That isn't a drain. It is an IV line that stays in. Some people get it instead of a port. It is easier to install and take out than a port but the line comes out from the skin so you have to keep a dressing on it and can't get it wet. I guess it needs to be flushed more often than a port since we don't have to go in for flushes between chemos.
Cakelady, up here, the oncology department had a coordinator who was different than the one in the breast surgery department.

Denali- way to go on being half way done! That has to be a good feeling! Loved the idea of all us on horses flying down the beach. Wigs flying!

Just wrote a big post and promptly erased it.
That is how it has been for the past few days.

Ohhhhhh, Maja, doesn't that just piss you off??
Been there, done (doing) that!

Denali, Congrats on braving the storm and getting your chemo. I am sooo proud that you gave yourself the injection of Neulasta. I don't know if I could have done it! Sit back and relax and enjoy your clean house and know that with each passing day you are closer to the end of the tx's.
Lisa, I am sorry about the loss of your mom. I cannot imagine all of the feelings you have swirling around inside. I know she is proud of how well you have handled your yourself and how much you have helped others with your kind spirit. You have honored her memory with grace and dignity and more importanty with love. Big hugs Traci

Anne,,,,,,,,,,,,My nephew went to Hofstra Law School and he works there now. He lived on Long Island for quite some time but has since moved to Astoria. We went there a couple of years ago for his graduation,,,,,,that was my first time to New York,,,,,,,,,,,stayed in Manhattan. Saw all the things I wanted to see. Had an absolute wonderful time. Would love to go back again.
Have fun in the city and a happy birthday to your son.

Denali - Come to Fla anytime and I will take you to the beach!
Maja Doesn't that just piss you off!
To all, thanks for the kind words about my mom. I wish she would have had this board and Herceptin.
Traci We are on countdown to St. Augustine!!!
Jaimieh - My insurance company is working my nerves too.
Thanks to all who commented on my horse, I will be sure to tell him! BTW He is a 16.1 Missourri Fox Trotter (bigger than avg horse that does the fancy gaits).

Lisa he sounds like a doll. I had a 16 hand TB (retired race horse) that I evented for 10 yrs who was a big baby but I had a choice of either staying at home with my little ones or having him (and never seeing him because of work). I found him the best home and gave him to someone who would treat him like a king. They really are the best therapy.

Jaimieh! You go girl for riding a retired racer!!! I have one - Martha. Martha busted her knee coming out of the gates as a 2 y/o - only her 4th race - the jockey did not stop. The owner was a kind man and he had surgery on the knee versus euthanasia. I got her as a 3 y.o after the cast came off. ( We are freinds of the owner and he asked that we take her) We were able to ride her (with a weight limit) until she was about 5 and she was a handful!!! For the past 6 or 7 years, she is a well loved pasture ornament. She has a constant limp on the front left, but she still goes out and tears things up and gets crazy - then I have to medicate her for the next week till she feels better again.
Martha also has anhidrosous - she does not sweat - not good in Fla. But she is smart enough to live in our pond during the hot months. This is NOT the Koi pond previoulsy mentioned!

What a beauty! He knew walk/run but by the time I was done if he was in trouble he would come stand next to me like a big dog. Conway (which was his name) would do absolutely anything for me

Please indulge me.
My hubby's horse - Big Duke - an 18 hand Belgian - that means big.

BLUEDASHER....thank you for explaining my PICC line to everyone. Yes I have to go in once a week for a dressing change and to flush the line so it does not clot. And I can't get it wet so it is an ordeal with the Saran wrap everyday when I take a shower. I did order a waterproof sleeve from the Drycorp company that is made just for this purpose, its a sleeve you put on and pump the air out and it makes a waterproof seal so you can shower or swim. I cant wait to get that.
CUPCAKE.. yes I did have the tubes with the bulbs that I had to empty and measure but that was after the mastectomy, for a week.... not now.
LISA .... Love the horse pictures!!!!

A freind of mine had a PICC line for about 3 months, she just got it out last week. She hated it! She had brain surgery for a meningioma and she got MRSA at the surgery site and needed to PICC for daily antibiotics.
Why is the hair on my chin growing faster than the hair on my head?

Loving the pics of the horses!! 18 hands...WOW! He is a big boy!

Thanks Cindy. I can't believe my little guy is already 7 years old! I am very familiar with Hofstra. Both hubby and I took classes there.....way back when.
I live out in Suffolk County now, about 30 miles east of Hofstra. Astoria is very nice. If I remember correctly there is a large Greek population there. Plenty of places to get a good meal.
Don't even get me started with NYC. I lived there for a short while before I was married and I loved every minute of it. There is so much to do and see. I miss living there, but out here on Long Island the beaches are beautiful and there's lots of space to raise a family.
Lisa - Great pictures.....your husband's horse is beautiful.

I loooooooooooove all the horsey pictures. Beautiful lil or rather big animals.
Anne,,,,,,I just remember when I went there for his law graduation,,,,,,,I thought that campus was absolutely beautiful. We did so much while we were there for 8 days. Was such a fun filled exciting vacation. Although the subways got me very confused. I was grateful that my sister was there to be the guide. She has gone there lots of times as her son still lives there.........so she has the subways down to a science. lol

Bluedasher - You're right, Avastin isn't a hormone inhibitor - it's monoclonal anitibody that attacks blood vessel growth. Just hope it works for me.
Denali - Way to go to get to your 3rd treatment (by now you must be on #4) - I know how you feel! I just had TCH #2 - no surprises and was able to go to work the next day, but am now really wiped out after getting the Neulasta Friday afternoon. I do seem to be more tired after the second treatment - hope this trend doesn't continue with the rest of them... I had hoped to continue to work fulltime, but we'll see...I've just gotten to the point where I'll have to wear my wig - hair's coming out in clumps now! My hairdresser said she'd buzz it off for me, but they're closed on Mondays I haven't told everyone at work - just a few close friends, but I'm really paranoid about people noticing that I'm wearing a wig. I work in a school library and I really don't want the entire student body and the rest of the faculty knowing my business, nor do I want a lot of rumors floating around our small community.
Oh well, maybe I'll just have to get used to the stares! Maybe I'll even get a few compliments.

WoooooW! this board is uber active. I have been so sick that I have not been able to comment as I usually do. This bronchitis has really taken its toll. I am going to the funeral for my nephew today. It will be a challenge to try to look normal. There will be about 300 people there. He was very well loved and only 52 years old.
The good news is that I am feeling better and by tomorrow which just happens to be my BIRTHDAY! I think that I should have my game back. Or at least some of it.
Lisa BEAUTIFUL shots of the horses. Thanks for sharing. Well I have to get in shower. I will post tomorrow. I hope that everyone is having a good weekend. My love to all.

Bold: Sorry about the loss of your young Nephew, glad you are better, and Happy Birthday tomorrow.0

Cakelady- the nurse told me to use glad press and seal- it works slick to cover the port. Easy to use and doesn't let any water in
Bold- I'm so sorry about your nephew- it's always hard to lose someone we love. you are in my thoughts and prayers. Glad you are feeling better!

Nonnio...I was soo worried about people staring at me when I wore my wig...but just the opposite happened. I have actually been asked who does my hair...Im actually kind of enjoying not having to style my hair right now...could not imagine doing it being sick.
Bold: Glad to see you are feeling better!! Sorry to hear about your nephew!
Its been a long day in bed...my mother made all this food and I cant eat any of it! I finally made me Chocolate Chip Pancakes and Slim Fast. Hope tomorrow is better!

Smile: Look at you girl. It wasn't that long ago you were devastated on loosing your hair now look at your post. It is nice not to have to syle the hair isn't it? As bad as the chemo is you looked at some positive. How about not shaving your legs?? lol I don't remember what day your chemo is on, but tomorrow will be better for you I am sure. Just pack that stuff in the fridge and you can eat it on your good days.0

Bold i am so sorry about the loss of your nephew. On top of your loss, I understand how tough it is for you to go to a large social gathering. But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Cupcake: Will you adopt me? You have so much insight and perception into the typed word. I don't know how you do it, but God bless you.

Ladies,
This thread is one hot one! About the acupuncture, it does help with the side effects but leaves horrid bruises - can't have everything, right? Peanut and mushroom soup with pork/chicken really helps the rbc if you want to go the natural way............
Denali,
I am so impressed and proud of you. You are one inspiration that I will draw on - driving thru snowstorms and icy hills and administering your own shot.......what a courageous woman you are! I will not complain of my circumstances flippantly anymore.
Bold,
So sorry to hear about your nephew.
Cupcake,Thanks for the assurance about the tatoos. i was worried since it is mostly hot weather in HK and we go collarless/sleeveless most of the time. Yes, like Lisa said, could you adopt me too? Like be my godsis or something? BTW, the Stage 4 ovarian friend is in denial and has not started to explore nor discuss treatment yet. She's banking on alternative meds now. Trying hard to prompt her into action.
Lisa,
Those pics of your horses and you are great!! It is really refreshing to see you are in such a beautiful environment with your darling horses. How lucky you are ! I am stuck in Gotham City on day 5 of cycle 2, but asides from no appetitie, the bone/muscle pain have not set in yet like cycle 1. maybe it was the zometa shot the first time. Mood starting to crash today, after peaceful weekend at home with the children and dh.
Good Day and Hugs
BTW, do any of you take vitamin D for the bones? is it any good after the zometa shot? I read that zometa stays in the system for 10 years .............and blocks any growth of bone....i am borderline on osteopenia but i regret taking the zometa shot since the side effects seem scary down the raod. I am one scaredy cat of SEs.

Hi All-
I am in Emend heaven!! The difference between last weekend after treatment and this has been absolutely miraculous!! Those nausea induced suicidal thoughts are gone! Of course, I have the tiredness and heavy fatigue and have been doing much sleeping but THAT is so doable. I was really, and I do mean REALLY sinking to the point of not doing my last cycle because of that nausea. But just like our MOST wise and loving Sr. Counselor (and my grandmother!!) Cupcake assured, the Emend is awesome! So keep that in mind ladies, if the Zofran losses it's effectiveness as time goes on.
I am on my LAST chemo "vacation." This week off, then my LAST cycle of 3!!! My daughter's shower is April 26th so I put off my last tx from the 24th to the 27th so that I can enjoy it as a human being! I'm getting giddy just thinking about the end of April!!
Even though I have to go in for surgery on May 27th to readjust my too high left expander which won't be a picnic, I have my eye on the real prize of FINISHING CHEMO!!! I really NEED to do something special as I thought the day would never come!!
Thanks to all for your never ending support!
xoEllen

Another Monday after Chemo and I am unable to make it into work. Thank goodness for technology! I can log into my computer from home.
I need to request the Emmend...because Zofran is absolutely not working! Like you REKoz I dont want to play this game anymore if I have to feel like this every three weeks! I can take the fatigue, but the nausea is a whole other ball game. I'm the person that keeps going no matter what, and I just cant do that with this poison running through my body! It is soooo depressing! I just want to quit. But I will ask for Emmend for my next tx!

Shari~ Do you have compazine ? My doctor told me that I can take zofran with compazine and that may help. It almost seems like your body adapts to the meds. and they stop working. I waited last time and spent 5 days trying to feel better finally I went into the doctor's office and got some new meds. I will not wait this time if I feel sick. I can take tired but like you shari I can't stand the nausea.
