    2nd time,

It is also good to suck on ice, or keep very cold ice water in you mouth during taxotere to help prevent mouth sores. I start 10-15 minutes before tax and end 10-15 minutes after. Tax for me is 1 hour.

I got them bad after tx #1. I have iced ever since and nothing after tx's 2-3 and only 2  from tx 4. During tx 4 I wasn't able to ice properly as they changed the order of the meds and put H first, so a bit of my ice melted.  I have not iced fingers and toes. So far nails ok.

2ndtime glad you are doing well.  The Claritin really helped me with the body aches so I would recommend as minus2 did.

All my nails hurt...they have not fallen off but I wonder if this pain will go away.  I also have that hand foot thing with wrinkled fingers and feet...does this go away?  I am 3 weeks out final chemo.

    Thanks for any responces.

My first day of TCH was today, I was not too nervous however would love to hear all with this type of treatment is doing now. I am going every three weeks and have shaved my head down to a two with the clippers, in the hopes that my hair that does come out is not too freaky. I am finding I cant sleep very well with the DEX but I only have tomorrow left with that.

HI Kirklandgal - I was thinking of you yesterday when I read that melatonin can help with chemo-induced neuropathy.  It has also been studied to be very effective for helping breast cancer.  I personally take 20 mg. a day.

I haven't posted in a while but I just wanted to give you gals in treatment a chuckle. I know that sound always made me jump signalling when the bag was empty.

Flavia - I take 6mg of melatonin right before bed.  My naturopathic doc felt strongly that it is very likely a a breast cancer preventative on some (yet unknown) level besides being a sleep aid and encouraged me to take it daily. But 20 mg? Doesn't that make you tired? What time of day do you take it?

I take the 20 mg. melatonin at bedtime.... doesn't really make me sleepy, I still have insomnia!  My nutritionist said to take it at that level to prevent a breast cancer recurrence.

This board has been quiet for a while. Hoping that is a good sign that all is going well for everybody.
About a month ago, I think we were discussing getting the 'old lady pill box' - and I finally got mine last week. It is AWESOME and makes things SO MUCH EASIER for all my supplements/vitamins. Thanks for the encouragement to finally do it. No more struggling with this little tiny plastic bags I was using before!

    Stay warm everybody.

Amy I have two pill boxes. Granted I take mostly supplements now (except for that estrogen sucking drug). I use one for my morning pills and the other for the evening.

And just in case I forget I do have my travel pill case that has Exedrine, Aleve and a couple of those Estrogen Sucking Drugs:

Anyone have the recipe for the magic mouthwash? And ideas for thrush? A friends son is having problems after his rads on his neck.

    Hi everyone,

I'm getting nervous that with the 10-12 inches of snow they are forecasting here tonight, I won't be able to make it to my Herceptin infusion tomorrow morning. Since we rarely get snow here, they are slow to clear roads and people drive all crazy! I get Herceptin every 3 weeks. Anyone had to delay for a few days? I called my onc office to ask and she said "we'll be open." Hmmm. If it's not a big deal to delay, I think I'll try to reschedule for Friday. Thoughts?

Moonflower - My onc called in the rx to the pharmacy and they mixed it up for me.

Monkeymom - I think it is fine to delay till Fri. That is only 2 days.

Moon - as everything else, there are different formulas from different docs.  My MO wrote 1:1:1 - Nystatin, Lidocane, Benedryl.  Swish, hold & swallow 15ml by mouth 30 min before meals 3x daily & at bedtime.  Sure did deaden things.

Prior to getting that, my BS had written one for Nystatin suspension just as an antifungal - take 1 tsp 4x daily

monkeymom, 2 days is no big deal.  If you had any complications you could even skip infusions, or push off for other scheduling reasons.  The only reason we have these protocols is because that is what was tested in a clinical trial.  But I understand not wanting to get off schedule and get closer to DONE.

High doses of probiotics might help thrush.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll pass them on to my friend. Her son is 20 but we all know how hard it is for guys to be sick... LOL.

Monkey mom like Marsha said a week delay isn't anything to worry about. Some people take a month break from Herceptin if needed for problems.

    Much love for all!

Thank you. My nice chemo nurse called me tonight and rescheduled Herceptin for next week. Unfortunately, the place I go to is more like a factory than a caring cancer center. It's hard to get an actual person on the phone and if you do, they are not likely to be nice! The chemo nurse was kind to call and I'm glad I get to have a snow day with my kids tomorrow instead of sitting in an infusion chair in a sterile room!

    Hi Ladies

Had to have my head shaved today, Sad Day 19 after chemo was started. Wow was my hair falling out. I do not like my wig, to tight, but do like scarves.  2nd  Chemo on Monday. I made it thru 1st round with tolerable SE's. I hope they do not increase with other rounds.

2ndtime & love - I wasn't a fan of how my "real" wig fit, but I had a headband wig that I got as a back-up and ended up wearing it all the time.  It had a soft, stretchy knit headband (which was mostly what touched my head) and the back looked like hair pulled back in a headband.   ;)

Loved, loved , loved it!   If it's a style would work for you, I highly recommend it!

2nd. I too wore hats and scarves much more than my wig.  Here's one day of my hair loss  on day 24 of my tx. 3 days after 2nd tx. That's one days worth. It's sitting on an 8 and 1/2 " by 11" piece of paper.  I had my head shaved shortly thereafter.

Moonflwr.  EWww as my Daughter would say. My shower looked almost like that for two days and then I buzzed it off. I just showed my youngest Daughter my Bald head for first time and she went EEWwww to me.   She 's young. I told her this will be me for many months and she will be seeing it again because I def think my wig is to tight. I will look for one of those headband wigs that sounds good.

I am 9 weeks PFC and have started going out without head gear. It is summer here and really hot!!! Feel relieved to be "topless"!

here's the place where I got my headband wig:

    http://www.headcovers.com/Wigs/headband-wigs/

I'm sure other wig places sell them, too.  I ordered the bangs to go with mine (because I've always had bangs!!), but they didn't look right on me so I ended up using just the headband.   It was so comfy and much lower maintenance than a full wig.  I got lots of cute scarves and headbands to accessorize it (when I wanted something other than plain black).   :)

I had my first round Friday.  Took all the meds and almost no nausea.  Will it typically be the same or might it get worse?  Thanks

We'll just hope it the same. But my worst days were 5-10. I got diarrhea for those days.
