I gained weight on Tamox and all my aches, pains, increased blood pressure.  My PC says it is all caused by weight gain - even though I have been a yo yo all my life with weight flucuations. I never had these symptoms when I have been higher weight before.  PC says it is now age and weight gain.  I am 53.  I did go to a rheumotologist last year to find I now get bursitis in many joints, hips, elbows, shoulder.  I now know what bursitis feels like in the joints.  A cortosone shot in hip did not help.  Rheumotologist says these things can be Tamox related, due to high recurrance rate Onc would not ok a tamibreak.  Meantime everytime I go to PC, I get the weight lecture - I've worked hard and am down 20 lbs since this past winter when I balooned up in weight yet again and still have the same problems with my joint and feet aches.  I have the summer off because I work in a school office and have been exercising at the gym everyday and have only lost five of the 20 since end of May, keeping a food diary, seeing nutritionist, etc.  Heard Ellen Degenerous say that she has to exercise, watch diet, etc. now that she is over 50 just to maintain.  So there may be something to be said for the over 50 scenerio.  My onc and NP are very understanding about the weight but keep encouraging me to loose more due to obesity and rate of recurrance.  PC is just kind of condescending about it.

About the eye issue - Cateracs can be a side effect of Tamox.  so Onc recommended going to opthmologist every year.  I had always gone to an optometrist and was never told I had cateracs.  My 1st appt. with opthomologist, 1 year after being on Tamox, I have developed a small caterac.  Another year later the caterac is still the same.  So again, this could be an age thing or tamox according to eye doc.

I go to onc in 2 weeks so will know if I stay on Tamox or am switched to AI. Chemopause at 50 and stayed in Tamoxipause.  Was regular up until chemo so not sure what they will do.

Everyone enjoy what is left of the weekend and stay cool.

Took my third pill this morning, so I have what, 1822 more to go?.... I am noticing hot flashes (a LOT more - used to have maybe two a week and in past three days, multiple each day) and tiredness... although I think the tiredness is my not exercising... just got the ok for 'light' exercise from my PS (after the last surgery)...

vhshea my hot flashes ended up getting really bad and then all of a sudden they stopped.  I get so few now i can even remember how often I get them I just notice when I am warm not really hot.

Patty B good luck on the weight loss.  If you are watching your calories have you used one of the free online services that calculates your weight, your exercise who much weight you want to loose a week and then you put in everything you eat each day.  It really helped me alot.  Also you might want to consider a Health Coach.  To my knowledge insurance will not cover it , but you might find it helpful.

Hi all!  Just thought I'd come by and say Hi.  Im gettn ready for the big exchange tomorrow.  Im glad I have to be there bright and early.  I have no fingernails left.  I keep having the vision that was on the Roseanne show years ago.  She went in for a reduction and had a dream and she woke up with knockers that were 4 x the normal size.  Not this chic.  My sissy tease me so because my TE are way bigger then what my real ones were and I dont want to be that big. Anyway thats for the support girls.  I am a bit on the nervous side.  I never really had many health issues before so having any kind of procedures spook me abit.  Take care all and I'll let ya know how it went!

Sherry - thanks for the pep talk!  I've heard that after about six weeks, SEs tend to abate somewhat... fingers crossed.

Paula - We will, as they say on one of these threads, jump in your pocket for your exchange tomorrow to give moral support - just remember they all say that the exchange is nothing compare to what we've been through already (easy for me to say since the took out my TE and I won't be in the exchange timeframe for another six months...)...  Wishes and prayers with you.

gardengumby- love the name..hated the side effects....I tried to combat the potential weight gain with more gym time when I was on tamoxifen and while I did not lose weight, I also did not gain any so I figure it was a win win...so hard and discouraging though...on top of everyting else...more weight we don't want or need. Glad you are also doing your own research and coming to this thread will help you ..if anyone knows about side effects, it is the gals on this thread!

Tink- how are you feeling now?

Paula- hope the weekend went a bit smoother as it rolled along. Do you and your daughter skype regularly?

I had the county maintence guy come to replace some burned out light bulbs. OMG I ended up having so many that were out in our office I don't know how I was seeing anything.  But now I can see all the dust that is around.  Guess I'll be cleaning things tomorrow.

Same here the hot flashes are such a joy, Not!  My Onc says no taking anything that is plant based because of the natural estrgen.  Ugh.  The Effexr isnt working very well.  My sissy thinks Im being to over the top about not taking something, but thats ok.  I want to make for sure that just because I had a BMX that I'm not going to be totally out of the woods for now.

It is hot and my hot flashes have pretty much gone away I do have warm flushes but with this heat I have been questioning if I am having hot flashes again.  I am ready for some cooler weather and it is not even August yet.

Has anyone here not experienced any se's? If so, what did your oncs say about that? I have not developed any noticeable se's after being on Tami 1.5 weeks. To be sure, I am not asking for them, but if I did have them, I would have a sign that Tami is having an effect on my body. I am trying to avoid reading anything into that. Thoughts?

Heftylefty I have heard of others that have not had SE's and I don't think it means anything at all.  I wish I had been one of those without SE's.  Thankfully most of my SE's are gone.
