Maria, go ahead and complain - I will send you lots of sympathetic hugs.

My new lenses came in so I get new glasses tomorrow - maybe I will be able to see again! Have had such problem with blurred vision in one eye getting worse, not sure if it is all due to dry eyes or other problem.  I had episcleritis in the spring before BC recurrence, and so am also seeing the doc again to see if I can get some relief from the burning irritation.  Wouldn't that be great - able to see AND be comfortable???? One can only hope.

Sherry, I feel your pain - am so sick of being cold one minute, drenched the next.  I'm thinking of getting a stack of those paper fans on the tongue depressor stick that they used to have in church - or maybe a fancy Chinese folding fan - maybe I can look "mysterious" or something....

It's only Wednesday and feels like next Monday.

Hello there, my name is Lynda and I have been taking Tamoxifen now for about 4 weeks, I havnt noticed any weight gain what I have noticed though that the hot sweats have stopped for the time being, I had more of the hot sweats whilst I was having Chemo and Radiation.

Is there anymore side effects that I may need to know about. Also is there any of you ladies suffering with Lymphodema ?

Welcome Lynda.  Yes the  hot sweats suck.  I seems to have had more of them in the beginning of Tammo then chemo.  I have joint pain as well.  I do notice that my nails are abit more brittle, but thats not a big issue with me cause I bite them something fierce.  Im sorry I cant help you with lymphodema.  I do know that there are threads here that can help you with it. If you have any questions post them, thats what we are here for.

    Maria hugs for ya gal!!!

Well I was hoping to knock one doc off the list, but PS says I have to still see him for a little bit more.  Plus I cant get my ink until August, double bummer!!!!  Those are the ones I really want done.  I guess I will just have to ink some other body part while Im waiting, lol!

Linda I wish they would bring back the hand fans.  I think it would be way cooler to wave one of those around then a stack of papers.  Well I did find that cinnamon disc candy really brings on the hot flashes, bummer cause I really love them.

    Junie miss ya!!!

Have a great night all.  Im off to sew on my babydoll quilt.  Man o Man do I need some serious help in that department.  In time I will be the next Eleanor Burns (in my dreams)

    Have a great night all!

Just got back from the Onco dr and he says all his pre menopausal girls get Tamox and all the post memo like me get Arimedix so I know its an aromatase inhibitor but is there a thread for that? Its supposed to give you hot flashes and make you gain weight. Whoopeee! i already gained 6 lb with fiance bringing in cookies and muffins, wish he would stick the eclair in his ear!!And let all the chocolate drip down his face! I went to the gym and got on the stationary bike today. I am so mad,if I look at candy bar I gain 10 lb!! Its not fair,I wanna be nauseas and lose weight but I am on the other hand extremely grateful thankful hopeful eternally blessed by any intelligent creator or whatever being of higher power may choose to bestow undeserved mercy on me not to have to have chemo or rads. Maybe I could take vitamins on any empty stomach would that make me nauseas?

There is a thread --- It is under Hormonal Therapy - Arimedix.

I would be interested in knowing what the SEs are because I am going to be starting Tamoxifen soon but have seen where they will put you on Tamoxifen for 2 or 3 years and then finish the 5 years up with Arimedix.  I am going to speak to my MO about this.

Joanne - The 2 - 3 years of Tamox and finish with Arimidex does seem to be a common thing with a lot of MOs these days.    I am post menopausal since 2008 and I taking Tamox for the  5 years. I have tried the AIs and can't tolerate them.  So, it really is a good idea to talk with your MO about this.

Lynda   I have mild lymphedema and do manual lymphatic drainage on myself.  When I exercise it gets worse, so I keep up with it.  Check out GRRRR - I hate LE for good information.  Binney and Kira can answer anything LE related, and are so generous with their knowledge.

Last night I took 2 Melatonin and again had a better sleep.  Guess I need to figure out what works and when.  I'm nervous because I have only one small bottle of Melatonin and I'm not sure that I can buy it where I live.

And the hot flashes - geez - if I'm rushing, or nervous, yup - another hot flash.  And I wake up at night completely soaked, yuck.

    Thanks Jo1955 -

I am going to try and be open minded with the Tamox and not LOOK for side effects.

Of course it is nice to know that there are or could be options.

Paula I read your comment about the cinnamon candies bring on your hot flahses.  Well I started eating cinnamon in my morning oatmeal every morning.  I wonder if that could be it.  I decided to stop adding the cinnamon today.  I'll keep you all posted if that is the culprit of these increasing hot flashes I am having.

edited to add:  My boss has been out alot since last month but he was in this morning and when he was walking by my desk he noticed I had the desk fan on and said it is ok if you want to crank the AC down.  Of course he was smiling when he said it.  darn hot flashes

Sherry-I work as a pastry chef in a hot kitchen. I am not sure how I will deal with it this summer. I had a hard time with it last summer and I wasn't on any meds then. Lots of walks to the walk in cooler. Maybe I can put my mixers in there Cool.

Sherry Im hoping its just the artifical cinnamon and not the reall stuff.  I love cinnamon in all forms and that would really suck if that is the case.  I will have to do some experimenting as well.

    Hi Ladies

I will try the Melatonon as I really could use a good nights sleep.

I think the eye thing will drive me more crazy than anything elso.  I go to see my MO next week will see anout having my eyes checked.

I also want to know if anyone has tried or use Graviola?  It is like a natural chemo  and has had some good reviews. I bought some but am not sure if you can take it with the Tammi (or Herceptin) Please let me know.

    Have a GREAT DAY!!!

Well I went and saw eye dr. today.  My middle vision was crappy - need to get progressive lenses to be able to see properly again (about $600) too soon after last glasses for insurance to pay.  Said Tamox probably sped up aging of eye and it won't get better.  Good news is that no signs of serious problem with eyes.  But still BC seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Saw my own dr too, she gave me some pills to help me stay asleep, will try tonight and hope that the insomnia is also something that will settle out as my body adjusts to hormone changes.  Not a big fan of pills but after 2 weeks I can hardly function.

Thanks to all of you for understanding that the SEs are real

Well, I'm still working on my attitude readjustment.  I woke up yesterday feeling pretty good, then I heard Davy Jones of the Monkees died, and that brought me right back down.  It shouldn't have affected me THAT much.  That just shows me I'm kind of emotionally fragile right now.  I hope as I keep practicing accepting the way things are - the way I am now - that I'll quit being such a basket case!  Attitude is all in the head!

Jane - all of us lab rats know these SEs are real.  For some reason, the doctors didn't get the memo.  Or else they are told to deny everything.  Who knows....well, WE do!  That's why I like coming here - there will be always be someone who has experienced what you're going through.  Thank goodness!

HI my tamoxibabe !  I am playing catch up after being on vacation with the family skiing last week.

Welcome to all the new girls ~ hoping your side effects stay to a minumum or NONE at all would be extra nice.  We have to use all the tools we have to fight the FIGHT !

June, sorry to hear about your mom's fall.  I do hope she is feeling better.  It is so hard to lose a parent and now see your mom's health failing as well.  Hugs to you.  I am with you on t he weight gain, trying to do some WW point counting online, and eating very minimal carbs.  I am up about 10 - 12 pounds ~!!!  SINCE my leg break.  I also think the antidepressant doesn't help with the weight but I can't be without it.

Deb, WOO HOO on the B9.  Great news.

    Tink, hope your feeling better.

Jo, you are such a great cheerleader and wealth of information on here !

Paula, new INK yet?  I have 6 TATTOOS .  I want more but my kids hate them.  So I am holding back for now.  Really want LIVE life tattooed on my inner forearm.

Who am I missing with news.  So much catching up to do!  I think of you all often and you are all always in my prayers.

Hugs to all, TGIF !  I have been so exhausted.  Have decided I am looking forward to summer break from school.  Getting a daughter ready for college next year and my son's schedule with sports, school and religion is exhausting.

OH OH and I took HOT YOGA this week.  CRAZY ~ 90 minutes in a 105 degree room.  But it is great for stress and to detox !

    Kiss

    Hi, Ladies,

I haven't been here for more than a month. Missed all of you.

Nothing in my life has been normal for the last few months. Dad (who is a young 75) has leukemia that either reappeared after 21 years or developed anew as a result of his original chemo way back then. We did have a great 21 years but wow, it is rough now, again. I flew into NYC to be with everyone from mid january to mid february, when my dad was still being treated as an outpatient. Unfortunately the first treatmt didn't work and he simply declined. Now he's admitted to the hospital and is getting a regimen of chemo that would be harsh for someone half his age. I was home for two weeks and turned around and came back. I have a wonderful family. Two great brothers, and a strong mom (lung cancer survivor, two yrs ago) and we are all taking turns being at his bedside in the hospital. Very nerve wracking, but we are trying to be strong. ONLY good news is that I haven't had a minute to think about BC. Life on the leukemia floor is quite an experience. What's a few achey joints from tamoxifen? Child's play, and I'm grateful for the perspective at least.

Actually, all this sitting in hospitals has made my achey hip really bad, even turns to sciatica. Aches are considerably worse since the ooph but hardly had a hot flash since the op. (trade off, I guess.) I think I have gained about ten lbs, on top of the ten I already needed to lose. Miserable about this of all things. Seem to gain weight now by just seeing food. No easy way to exercise. Oh well.

Anyway, good to vent to my old buddies. Sorry no chance yet to catch up on all of you but will try o stay connected from here on.

Wishing everyone a good wkend, feel good,

    Love, shari

Alicia Im on ink no.8, just got it done last week.  Im luckey about my kids.  they are little freaks for ink also.  My daughter has as many as me, but my son has a few more to catch up.  He just turned 18 this yr and in my state its a law that our artist holds to.   I have no. 9 planned out already, so in a few months I'll have that one done.  When I get the girls done I will be so happy.

Have a great day all and enjoy the sunshine!

Shari, so sorry to hear about your dad.  It is really tough to see them sick and especially important to be with them and family as much as possible during this time, even though it can be very stressful.  Prayers are with you.

Greetings to the rest of you.  Spring break starts today - just dodging the tornado watches and storms tonight, then should have a nice weekend. Plan on resting a lot, and DH will be out of town for a few days, so I won't have him hovering around all the time!  (I do love DH, but I also need a bit of "alone" time, and he just can't seem to leave me alone - says he worries about me - I tell him that's not healthy for HIM).

OOOOH, I am pages behind again.....will do this in pieces

Jo- yes..you would think they would tell you about reconstruction at the get go...i know some surgeons etc. feel they do not want to overwhelm us with information but really???We are big girls and can make our own decisions. I promise to pocket dive when you go in for surgery. if a few of us go, we can keep Tink under control so she doesn't fly around and distract people

heart and soul- yes...roller coster is right. my massage therapist keeps telling me ' radiation has only been a year...decided to stay in again tonight..tired and therefore, weepy. might as well drink a glass of red wine and hang out with my virtual BC buddies!...although last night i moved out of my comfort zone and hosted a 'craft night'..knew only half the people in my house but we all did crafts of one sort or another and it was good...we also ate potluck style and drank juice/wine....it was lovely. I had said 6-9 and they arrived at 6:05 and were gone by 9:15...beautiful

bgirl- tammi does not cause insomnia....really? Is that why we are all on sleeping aids, melaonin and cranky or weepy...huh...copy sme of the pages here and deliver them next time you go to teir office and see what hey say. my goodness!

re. tami and sleep - apparently if you are on tammi and live here in Canada, MSI will pay for most of your eye exam. My eye doc told me clearly that tammi can affect eye sight and eye health and to ensure i go for anual check ups or go see him if i notice any changes...

    Linda, thanks for the lovin'!

Have to say, since my hormones did a nose dive, I have not had discharge (which I had on tammi and arimidex) and my sex drive is back (although that is not a great thing necessarily considering I am not with anyone...but at least I am interested in the idea again!)...no hot flashes either....back to cold hands and feet and layers of sweaters...in 1degree celsius weather!...ok more pages to catch up on and then I will write some more. love to all!

Shari - so sorry about your dad....I undersstand what you mean about perspective. Had a student in the hispital for a month last year with sickle cell anemia...that floor....the nurses...the volunteers...such strong and devoted caregivers...he was in pain simply laying down...it was a few months after my heart attack and I was sooooo grateful that my stay had been short.

coming up on my heart attack anniversary date...weepyall over again...soon life wil be one big anniversary date it seems...I know dates only have the power we give them but subconsciously, my mind is playing tricks on me...I know I am not the only one....

Clearly chiropractory is not helping anything other than my right hip..after massage on monday , where sh emanipulated my two ribs back into place, i was breathing normally and comfortable...after chiro..despite not having her work on anything othe rthan my right hip, my jaw is sore again and my ribs are sore...powerful stuff....need to try and stretch it out or will have to go in for massage earlier than planned! this BC stuff is expensive....bu grateful to be alive anyhow!

welcome to all the newbies....it was a number of pages back,...sorry I do not remember who, but blood clots came up as a topic. Tammi did cause a blood clot in my little body last year but I knew what to do and who to call immediately because I checked the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation page...it is worth a read...go to the section on women as it describes things PERFECTLY...knowing the symptoms can save your life...

Sandee - I know we have to watch Tink carefully.  She has already volunteered to stay with me in the hosp for 2 days.  I think she will behave this time.  There was so much I was not told about.  Yes, we are big girls and that is why we take tape recorders or a note pad to take notes.  I know i used Mr Google quite a bit and learned so much.  I think alot of surgeons don't see the need to have recon done if one had a lumpectomy.  Some did not have a lot of breast removed and may not need it but in my case half my breast was taken for a little tumor.  Makes me wonder just how wide the margins were.

Well i think the new meds and sudafed is finally working. I have never had a sinus infection this bad. It was actually draining blood and clotty kind of stuff draining down the back of my throat so gross. I am wondering is the Tamoxifen made this recovery so much harder and longer? anyway still not 100% but getting better.

Tappy - for me first couple of days a bit of nausea and headache.  Increased hot flahes and night sweats first month and then settled down some.  After 2 weeks my vision changed quite a bit - had to order new glasses yesterday.  Insomnia started about 6 week mark and I am still working on that.  Hopefully it will get better too after my body gets used to changes. No weight gain for me. Actually would have lost weight during rads if I hadn't eaten more.  On a diruetic for BP so that may be helping with bloating.  Lots of fiber & water helps too.

Just kind of have to take it as it comes and deal with it.  Different for everyone, perhaps how much estrogen you had left already and body chemistry.
