Poutine is a French Canadian delicacy. It is french fries topped with cheese curds which are melted when you pour the hot gravy on them. Best eaten close to the nearest cardiac centre!

i've wanted to taste poutine, but haven't been to montreal in years. a local restaurant just put it on their menu. it wasn't very good, but i'm sure it's just their version. this gives me more of a reason to get back to montreal or quebec city. pretty in pink, is it served in ontario too?

Oh yes. A very popular burger chain, Harvey's, has had it on their menu for over 10 years. You can also find it at most fairs, served out of a trailer. I have only had it once and, although it was okay, I didn't think it was worth the risk of arterial damage. I am surprised that the US doesn't have it as it seems to be in the same family as the KFC bowls, etc. But then you don't put vinegar on french fries yet either!
