Hello everyone and a Merry Christmas

Maureen813 - the inhaler is a prescription quit smoking device. It enables you to inhale some nicotine to help you overcome the cigarette smoking habit. It's a small cigarette holder, you then insert a small nicotine cartridges into the holder, and inhale the nicotine, it's pretty strong in my opinion, and I don't need it alot, but it does help when that urge (that you cant shake off) comes over you. it goes like this for me:  "I start looking for my cigarettes, then realize I HAVE QUIT, then I need to work thru the urge, and if I can't work thru it, I use the inhaler. Believe me it gets easier and easier, I am amazed at the way I use it already, not depending on it as much as I thought I would, since the urge to smoke does leave pretty quick, with or without the use of the inhaler.

I didn't mean to get so long winded about it, I don't know if there are several on the market, mine is called Nicotrol inhaler, (nicotine inhalation system). I thought it was expensive, but so are cigarettes. Close to $200. for 168 cartridges. A cartridge lasts me for about 4 hrs now, in the beginning about 2 hrs. I have never used one cartridge up in one "setting", I puff on it 4-5 times, and that's enough, the urge passed and I am good for another 2 hrs or so.

Google Drugstore.com or any pharmacy, I am sure you can find info there. Good luck.

Jan508, Creative visualization is your best friend for drinking Moviprep (I had 4 colonoscopies last year... long story). Keep it in the fridge, imagine it's a very hot day and someone's offered you a glass of icy lemonade. Have some ice cubes or ginger ale to sip afterwards! I have done all my preps starting late afternoon - but you are def. lucky to have your procedure at 9 am. Keep in mind, you may not really have to drink every last drop of it. Let's put it this way: if toward the end of drinking it, you're -- ah, "clear" -- it has really done its job. Good luck!

edited to say: I'm with your daughter. I spend my "prep" time watching a movie on my laptop in bed, right near the bathroom! Too bad I can't have popcorn or milkduds...

Seasidememories, doing very well here. Still smoke-free. Every day I think of another thing I love about not smoking. Yesterday I realized how wonderful it is not to feel I HAVE to have one, so that would mean going outside in freezing cold weather to have one at night. Brrrr. I feel sorry for the people I see huddled outside office buildings in this weather. Thanks for all the support and checking in!

I ya all.  I am going to try again as I did not hold off from smoking more and now am a full fledge smoker.  I am buying packs and hate the loss of the money I was saving.  Worst of all I believe I need to delay my stage II and knowing that has not helped my to stop again.  I was at 4 months.  I have been chosing not to reach out as I am fed up with myself.  All you women have ever provided was unconditional support and it is me beating myself  so I do not know why I have been avoiding you all.  Ok enough of the beating myself up.  Tomorrow I go back to work and it is easy not to smoke there.  There are 4 smokers in the house where I live and although they have told me no to my bumming cigarettes I was eventually able to talk them into it.  Then I got where I do not like to bum and went and just bought the pack.  It is a cunning and baffling disease.

Congratulations to everyone who has turned a milestone.

Dutchy: Don't despair. We've all been there. The longest I quit for before now was 6 months. I'm at 5 months now (will be 6 months on Jan 10). I'm just hoping I can continue. We are all only a puff away from being a full-time smoker again. If it's important to you, you will try again, and eventually, you WILL succeed! All we can do is keep trying.

I have to quit. I started the day I walked out of a weight watchers meeting when I was 14! It is odd...I take care of myself in every other way but the smokes are mine! How juvenile but it is true. I tried the minute I was diagnosed and went to an acupunturist <sp) and i believe it would have worked had I not been crazed with fear. I have the electric cig and will try that until I am cleared to go back to acupunture guy. Just not up to having more needles poking me and two left in my ears:) Am I shallow because I associate with my weight? So many more serious things going on and here I am worried I will get fat= not to mention what the AI drug will do. Anticipating the problems and yet, I know better, as I certainly was not anticipating breast cancer. Anyway, thank you for all being here. It has helped so much. I only hope to be able to give back some.

Dutchy - don't beat yourself up, it is so much harder when you are surrounded by smokers...we are here for you!!!  (((Dutchy)))

annetek - welcome! there is alot of great women here is all stages of becoming a non-smoker, some are in the planning stage, some have just started and others are hitting various milestones.  If you have the time, read back 30 plus pages and you will find a wealth of information and hints.

I still have company here and can't be on long but I just had to respond!

    Dutchy,

I read your post and could just about cry!

NOT, and I repeat, NOT, because you have had a set back BUT because you didn't feel that you could post here!  YOU have been here since I first started and helped me so much when we were all first starting out almost a year ago!  I HOPE that you will know that you occupy a special place in my heart and I will be here to help you in whatever way I can! NO ONE here will think any less of you for asking for support!

Yes, this is an especially cunning disease!  That is why we ALL need each other to beat it!

Get what you need to do in order and then, start over!  Once you get your stage 2 done, you can re-negotiate whether or not you want to continue on your quit BUT you have been through so much.  You DESERVE to have your reconstruction be absolutely perfect!

Feel free to PM me if you need to talk!

    Thinking of you!

    Welcome annettek,

I think you will find the ladies here to be very supportive!  As O2B said, if you haven't already, a really good start would be to go back through some of the past posts.  Lots of really good tips and will kind of give you a bit of an introduction to the people here!

Have to run but, will post more soon!

    OK Ladies,

We are bracing for a whopper of a winter storm here tonight and into tomorrow!

Some of you girls from the South and Mid-Atlantic were getting clobbered as well!  My in-laws are still here and were supposed to leave tomorrow.  I'm thinking they may be here a bit longer.  We really get along fine but, Lordy, I was looking forward to having my house back!  Wish me luck!

Hope you all had a good Christmas!

    Talk to you all soon!

What do you think about the announcement (although not official yet) that Steven Tyler will be a judge on Idol this year?  Saw that and thought of you!

I have my 82 yr old MIL here since 11/21 and now my BIL and SIL since last Thursday.

They are all supposed to leave tomorrow too but I don't know..they are supposed to fly into Philly and I'm hoping they make it home.  I also need my house (and my life) back!!

    sweetaerobabe,

Looks like January 19th is the date!

If you have never watched before it can be kind of ugly (read that embarrassing) for the contestants early on.  It makes me very uncomfortable so I tend to not watch then.  Once some time goes by and they get it down to the final contestants, it tends to calm down and is more pleasant to watch!

Looks like it's going to be Steven Tyler and J-Lo for the new judges!  Should be interesting!

    Oh Jan,

I DO so know what you are talking about!   All has been really OK but you just are kind of are used to your own routine!  And, while I have enjoyed  the company, I am looking forward to getting things back to normal. I'm going to get a whopping 2 days until my daughter's boyfriend arrives for a visit!  I'm thinking there's no rest for the wicked!

Philly's going to be a bit rough getting out!  Hopefully, by tomorrow, it's good!

Dutchy, you've done so great especially for living with smokers! I hope you['ll give yourself a pat on the back and remind yourself how much you've accomplished. Remember: just having one or two doesn't take away from all the cigarettes you didn't smoke, all the days you went without!

    Hi ladies!

Have you ever felt like you've just been kicked in the gut? That's how I'm feeling right now; the long of the short of it is, I've been using gum as a substitute for cigarettes. I haven't quit completely, but I've been able to maintain and contain 98% of my nic fits by chewing bubble gum instead. Now the doc says I've gotten TMJ as a result, and I have to quit the gum. Are you freakin kidding me???  I'd just gotten to the point where I felt like I could and wanted to take the final step and quit completely and he's telling my my coping device is no longer an option??? So I thought of this thread and decided to check it out...I hope you don't mind me joining your group this late in the game. I plan to read back over the pages  when I have more time! I just wanted to say hello while I was checking out the advice and reading back over how the year went for you all :)

    Welcome navygirl!

Glad you decided to check us out!  I think you will find this group to be a really great bunch of women!  There is no such thing as being "late in the game"!  There are girls here in ALL stages of quitting!  All are welcome!

Good idea to go back over the posts when you can.  There are lots of great ideas of what worked/didn't work for different people.

One of the ladies here, vjsl8, teaches classes on smoking cessation and has offered her workbook for free to people from this thread.  Back a ways she posted her e-mail address where you can request it if you are interested!

Look forward to hearing more from you!

Well, we managed to dodge the snow bullet yesterday.  It passed to the East of where we are but last night and today the wind/ wind chill has been ridiculous.  Also getting a quick couple inches of lake effect snow now BUT my in-laws did leave for home this morning Laughing.  Hope your company made it out too, Jan.

Just enjoying having the house back to ourselves for a bit.

Hope you all are doing OK and, for all of you that were in the path of the storm, hope the digging out isn't too bad!

    Jan,

5 WEEKS??! Yikes is right!  I think when I read your last post it did say Nov 21 but I think my brain converted it to Dec 21!

My husband is on vacation this week and is taking a nap as we speak.  I know I will be turning in early as well.

Hope the prep isn't too awful and your procedure goes well Wednesday!  The fills on Thursday sound like a much better deal!  How many more do you have?

I'll do my best to stay warm by staying inside with a nice glass of wineWink
