Best news of the year, grandson was born 11:34 this morning, 8 pounds, 20.5" long, mom & baby doing great. I'd post a picture but they haven't put one out on social media yet, so I'll wait. I could eat up his piggy toes and play with his little dimpled hands!

The rest of the day was crap. Toilet still not functioning properly, washer drained and sucked air from toilet bowl. Washed a pair of dark blue jeans by themselves in cold water, I dry them on the radiator. Took them out of the washer and they had clumps of liquid softener on them, had to re-wash them. Then when I went to look for them, they were already in the dryer. I ran to grab them but...already dry & shrunk over my ankle. Other small pathetic annoyances spotted the day. Pandemic, stuck in the house too much, with each other doing nothing. Calgon take me away!

Our rushing and our busyness create a fog layer that
encloses us, surrounding us with thicker and thicker
layers externally and building denser and denser fog
layers within. Pretty soon, we have lost touch with
that which guides our lives. We need contact with
our spirituality to be the people we would like to be.

Cindy -- congrats on the grandson. Hopefully, your days ( jeans and all ) will finally straighten out. Here's to a long stretch soon of no problems. Time to have some respite from what has become the daily grind -- except for that grandson. That is spectacular.

Back to work this morning. It is frosty outside, but no snow. Hope it does warm up though. Don't see any wind so that is a plus. # 4 chemo tomorrow and when done I'll be half way home with that.

Hope you all have a great day.

Mrs. Illinois-- are you losing your hair? A friend had chemo recently and he kept his, although they told him that he might lose it.

Congratulations on the grandchild, Cindy. Too bad about the jeans but they can be replaced.

Another beautiful Louisiana winter day here. Cold this morning but sunny and will warm up. Supposed to get colder later in the week.

I guess I will go to my senior exercise class today. I'm trying to balance the benefits against the dangers as the Covid numbers rise. Some pharmacies around the state are supposed to be receiving about a hundred doses of the vaccine. The list will be published and those in the 70 and over category can call and make appointments. Good luck with that. Maybe the new administration will do a better job of getting our nation vaccinated. We can hope.

    Wishing everyone a good day.

CindyNY: Congratulations on the new grandson. What a great New Year's gift.

As far as the jeans, you can try this:https://www.wikihow.com/Unshrink-Jeans

It's worth a try to see if you can resurrect them or they become cutoffs for next summer.

MCBaker, I am so fortunate this time around. The chemo goes directly into my bladder, so no hair loss, no nausea, and actually so far, not anything that could be called a side effect. The chemo is put in through a catheter and once I've held it in for 2 hrs. ( during that time I lay on my back 15 mins., then roll to one side for 15, then on the stomach for 15, then on the other side for 15 for a total of one hr. Then I do it all over again for the second hr. ) After all my turns I am free to go use the bathroom and start 'losing' the chemo.

The theory is making all these turns the bladder gets completely coated with the chemo and whatever is used just directly kills the cancer that is there -- because it is on the exterior of the inside of the bladder. I don't think ( because I'm thirsty by the time I am done and drink lots ) any of it remains once I am home. I was told though to flush the stool at least two to three times each time I use it for the rest of the day. It felt strange to me at first -- this not having side effects. When I did my 6 mos. of chemo for the breast cancer ( not to upset anyone who may be doing any chemo now ) I had a number of issues. Much nausea, and some vomiting, a lot of tiredness, aches, bone pain, and each chemo since cumulative took a longer time to get over and start feeling better.

I am used to it now so hope I continue to be side effect free. The worst is in order to not have to get up and go to the bathroom I've found that I can't eat or drink ANYTHING on chemo day. I am fortunate that it is in the morning -- about 9:15 each time, so all I have to 'endure ' ( word used lightly ) is some VERY mild discomfort around my head. It feels like I am about to get a headache but I never really do. We drink half and half coffee so guess it is why I don't actually get a full blown headache. Once home I get a cup of coffee immediately while sipping water too. Coffee generally stimulates the kidney/bladder so that along with the water gets me able to release any left-over chemo.

Cindy, wonderful news on your new grandson

It was posted in our Sunday paper that the DOH will start vaccines on Jan. 7 for those over 65. It is first come first served and it is drive through.

My bean soup was wonderful. I ate it for 3 days and froze some. I cant remember who posted it, but thank you for the idea.

What a wonderful way to start the new year, Cindy. I talked to a cousin and she expected her great grandson to arrive shortly before the stroke of midnight. Haven't seen any Facebook posts so don't know any details.

Just spent my first full day without my walking boot. Ankle feels pretty good. My goal is to get back to golf on Thursday - 3 weeks after my fall. In the meantime, I'm enough of a political junkie that I will be glued to the tube. Will be glad to get back to golf - not just for the exercise and laughs but I realized that I was having trouble keeping the days straight because I didn't have my regular game to look forward to. Oh Covid - go away!

Cindy, mazel tov on the new grandson! As to the jeans, Old Navy has huge online sales going on--and again, there's always the possibility of making them capris or cutoffs--or pulling your boots on over them.

It's cold here, with ice fog. Bob called Little Co. to schedule his second shot, and they told him to call again Wed. when they expect the new shipment. (So they did not reserve enough Pfizer for followup shots). He's hoping he can get it Friday--they're not vaccinating over the weekend, Meanwhile, many vaccination centers are toying with the idea of either mixing vaccine schedules (first Pfizer, then Moderna) or even just giving only one shot apiece to Group 1a (healthcare workers, first responders and nursing home residents & staff) and then moving on to 1b (other essential workers and non-congregate >75ers). We in Group 1c (65-74 or high-risk comorbidities) will likely have to wait till April or May.

Meanwhile, hanging at home. On the fence about getting my mani Thurs.--but aren't I always? Meanwhile my pharmacy ran out of letrozole (they promise to personally deliver it to me when it comes in); but I have a small stash remaining of my NovartisUK Femara. It "expired" April 2019, but unlike antibiotics or aspirin, it's likely still good.

Cindy, I agree, a great way to start a new year. Heard today from a friend that her son's wife delivered a boy on December 29 (great tax deduction) and her daughter delivered a girl today(oops, missed the tax deduction!). All, including the grandparents, all doing well.

We are waiting for great grandchildren but don't see any on the near horizon. GD1 is 22, single, and not dating anyone regularly; GD2 is 21 and a senior in college, she does have a "boyfriend" ; next in age is GS1 who is in college and has been dating the same woman for 2 years. The rest of the grandchildren are in high and middle school. No rush!!

Just heard on the news that Denver and another county won't be ready to start with 70+ for 3 to 5 weeks - they are still working on first responders, health care workers in ICU etc. I'm guessing that the lower part of 1B won't be till some time in March. Eagle County (Vail) is starting this week-end 70+ but first come first serve and drive through. This is such a cluster you know what!!!!

Good morning, ladies. 36 degrees this morning. It was nice to be rolled up like a cocoon watching the sunrise through the trees, but my senior cat, Miss Felix, was meowing at the top of her lungs. So the cats are fed and I have taken my morning pills and had a cup of coffee. Have a pleasant day.

Pretty cool in the morning, but we had sun almost all day with no wind. So, not a bad day at all. Got # 4 down and only 4 to go now. Happy about that. I do hate having no coffee though. That is difficult. Worth it in the end.

Didn't do much of anything today. Since I get a late start, it is difficult to feel like doing much. By the time I have us fed after chemo and the kitchen neatened up again it is about the time I normally start winding down. I do cheat though and do most of the work before I leave for the clinic -- so I really don't have much to keep up with -- just would be nice to make some headway on some of the things that have had to wait while I worked. My one little job will likely be ending after nest week -- so I will have a whole different schedule or maybe I should say -- back to the old one when I was not working anywhere. That will be okay.

I hope you all had a really nice day.

Going to be gray here today. Not to my liking -- but matching the mood of yesterday which was not a good day at all. Thinking of you all and hoping we soon can see good things happening with the covid crisis. We do not talk politics here, but I will be glad to see Jan 20th. come so we can get started on something better that will help all of us.

I have no plans for the day -- just needing the usual errands done. Seems I'm always out of cat food and it not that, dog food. So, it will be a normal day here of trying to catch up on things that get lost in the shuffle some times -- like not checking the 'feed bin ' often enough.

Hope you all have a good day.

Jackie, glad that you're halfway there in your chemo regimen.

I spent yesterday glued to the tv. I started off watching the House and the Senate on CSpan. Then the scenes of a mob invading the Capitol. An incredible awful day. But not all that surprising. Words do matter especially when spoken by powerful politicians.

Earlier in the day, a representative from a company hired by Lowe's came and measured our counter tops, which had been cleared according to instructions. I am finally following DH's wishes and having new counter tops installed. This technician did not use a ruler to measure but used a laser measuring machine. When the company comes to install the new counter tops, they remove the old and install the new all in one day.

I picked out a white quartz which should brighten up the kitchen.

It's a gloomy day outside and will be getting colder.

Jackie, good you are at the half way point and handling the chemo well. Sorry about your gray days. We are having them too. Wouldn't mind so much if the clouds brought some rain to this drought stricken area.

Carole, we changed our kitchen counters to a white quartz and it did help brighten things up. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we like ours.

    Have a good day.

I started to write about the attack on the capital and realized there are no words that encompass my feelings. Disgust. If my tv could hear me yelling at it, if others could see me standing up yelling at it, I'd probably get locked up.

We've had sun, seems like it's beautiful out, until you go out. It's so cold! I ran to CVS yesterday when remote learning had an hour lull. Not sure what I was thinking, must have been preoccupied, I didn't zip my coat and out the door I went. But "they say" it's been warmer than normal.

I moved out our dates for mail forwarding from FL to NY to April 5th. And extended the cable tv date to 4/15. So I better get with the program of ice cold weather, I'll be here for dang near all of it.

Plumber here again this morning. Hahaha...have to laugh, or pull my hair out. Owner thinks the best thing to do now is have his employee snake the main drain out to the trap, and if nothing there, snake from the trap out to the road. Couldn't get a guy here until Monday 7:45 AM.

I took all my Christmas decorations down on 1/6, tree too. Now my house is dark, nothing sparkling. I told my grand niece we'll decorate for Valentine's day early. I think in FL I have a light up heart, I'll need to get one up here. We need something to look forward to!

Illinoislady congrats having your chemo treatments half way done!

I hope you all have a great weekend.

What choices are you making in your perception of the events around you? We choose how we view our times. There is a pinch of pessimism in our now. Counter it with small acts of optimism. Pick up a piece of litter that isn't yours. Show some extra grace on the freeway. Give to your food bank. Smile at a child who is in your way. Help someone you know. Help someone you don't know. Goiong to be coolish outside --- looks pretty cloudy too. Sigh !! Well, the minute today or tomorrow or the next day the sun comes out I will bloom like crazy. Nothing special planned. Need to go to the bank and feed the feral cats. Maybe will visit a friend, carefullly. I have been wearing my mask when I go help the ladies I help -- and while this is a possible visit to a friend -- I will wear it as well.

petite, I'm sorry to hear your hands are not doing well. I hope it clears up for you soon.

Cindy, your heart sounds great. I had no idea you could get anything like that. Then again, the lady I help at her farm had a picture that she uses at X-mas time that has stars in the sky as well as a decorated X-mas tree and the tree lights up -- changing to several different colors at intervals. She enjoys using it through the holidays. I'm not much of a shopper so don't seem to run into those things. I've never been much of a shopper I guess, but never realized it.

I hope you all have a really nice Saturday. Stay warm.

Today is the funeral visitation and service for our neighbor who died over at his house a week ago. DH was planning for us to go. I woke up this morning with the realization that I was not going to attend and did not think it was wise for him to attend either. I think it's foolish to go among a group of people with the present surge in Covid cases. The positivity in testing in our parish/county is between 17 and 18 percent.

I tried to visualize the awkwardness of expressing sympathy while keeping social distance. I texted a former neighbor, in her 60's, who is going and asked her to express our regrets in not being able to attend. I will also send a card expressing sympathy.

We have put ourselves on the waiting list at two pharmacies that will be receiving Covid vaccine.

On a happier note, dh's nephew and his wife in IL gave us a nice present, some meal kits from Hello Fresh. That will be interesting. DH picked out the three meals.

    Happy Saturday to all.
