What a beautiful cake! Looks too pretty to cut but I am sure that would not stop anyone who enjoys cake. Belated HB, petite one.

Our nice weather continues. I'm so loving it. I do think we may ( I hope weather is wrong ) get some rain on Friday. We are up and down this time of yr. but that late winter soured me and I do not really want any more cold. I don' think we will get anything serious now. The other thing is I'm going to the beauty shop on Friday and don't want rain for sure then. I've avoided even a hair-cut for awhile. The shop ( rented spaces ) seems to have taken somewhat of a casual attitude about masks etc. The lady that does my hair is I think of a different political ( takes more casual attitude ) about covid precautions ( maybe the whole shop ) and so I was not completely comfortable. I feel like it will be okay now. They do keep only a couple of stations ( well separated ) at a time open etc. so I'm crossing my fingers as I'm looking shabbier and shabbier.

Carole, that is sad about your neighbor. 60's seems so young to me now. I think with the covid maybe it is really hard to lose someone from something other than that. So expected that covid can be so damaging to the point you may not survive, and that you make it through not getting that and then don't get totally through an operable brain tumor. My sympathies as well to his family.

I hope you all have a great day.

    Happy birthday Petite

Wet and heavy snow predicted for this week-end. Up to 2+ feet so far but it can increase. 2003 was the last big snow storm starting on March 17th. They just showed on the news long lines at the grocery store at noon today. I generally shop on Fridays as I don't work Fridays- wondering if I should go after dinner tonight.

    Stay safe.

New MacBook Air arrives tomorrow from Amazon. Apple couldn't get me one before the 22nd. This one is still working although the battery is dead and it's slow. I'm anxious about finding all the stuff that's supposed to be in my cloud. I'm reassuring myself that as long as the old one is kicking, I can email myself files that aren't stored.

Ken's cardiologist told him yesterday that his aortic aneurism is getting bigger and is hinting about major surgery in the fall. I don't know if he will agree to it or not. Cross that bridge when we get to it, I guess.

When you spend your life doing what you love to do, you are nourishing your Soul. It matters not what you do, only that you love whatever you happen to do. Some of the happiest people I've known have been nannies, gardeners, and housekeepers. They put their hearts into their work, and they used the work itself as a vehicle to nourish their Souls. I've known other people with more prestigious professions who absolutely hated their jobs. What good is it to be a doctor or a professional if you do not genuinely love what you do? Working in a job you do not love does nothing to nourish your Soul.

Taco, glad you will be able to get 'faster' sooner rather than later. I think too -- yes -- emailing what you need from your old computer while tedious will help you maintain staying in position.

Sorry to hear about your Dh's aneurysm. I do think having the stents in for it would/could be a lifesaver. If memory serves I felt like I recall your saying that he was tired of many health issues he has and therefore not so eager to do as much as others might. I hope it all works out to his and your satisfaction.

Our rain has come so not going to be an entirely pleasant day but will stay in the mid 60's so all is not lost. I hope we don't have it quite as bad tomorrow. You might know my hair appt. would end up on a likely wet day. Here's hoping -- and I am only thankful that is really all I have to complain about.

I hope you all have a good day.

IllinoisLady, Thank you for the lovely cake.

So many people in my area have completed their vaccines and have stopped using the mask, unless they absolutely have to. Are any of you all seeing this in your areas?

Love the new laptop! Up and running already. Everything transferred except passwords. Working on that. And I did it myself instead of paying Best Buy $100 like I did last time.

Jackie - Ken has 9 stents and a pacemaker already. Yes, he has been down this winter so we'll see. It will be his decision. I told him I wanted to manage my cancer and will let him make his health decisions going forward although I suspect I won't like them.

Looking at a Maine trip this summer. May combine it with a 5 day seminar at the New England Historical and Genealogical Society in Boston.

It's possible to have too much in life. Too many clothes jade our appreciation for new ones; too much money can put us out of touch with life; too much free time can dull the edge of the soul. We need sometimes to come very near the bone so that we can taste the marrow of life rather than its superfluities.

Received second Moderna on Wednesday and spent yesterday dealing with the expected side effects. Arm is still a bit sore but otherwise am greatly improved. Happy to have the second one because now we can plan to attend twin grandchildren 's high school outdoor graduation in May here in Texas. Also have a granddaughter graduating from college in California in May but not currently planning on traveling.

Humidity is way up here, had a rain shower overnight and predictions are for a thunderstorm Saturday night. We need the rain but, with two dogs who really do not like thunder and lightning, would prefer the less noisy variety.

Taco, tell me how that visit to the new england society goes. All of my traceable lines other than the German, English, and Irish who were more recent immigrants came from New England. We cannot find one person who had himself listed as coming from New York in the 1860 census (he was living in Missouri at the time). His first name has different spellings at different times, and the surname is common.

Sorry, I just haven't been too enthusiastic about the internet recently. It seems to lead me down rabbit-holes.

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour them all out, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away. -George Eliot

Mary, I went several years ago and "Come Home to New England" was a fantastic experience. LOTS of personal attention. Whether I go this year will depend on their mask and vaccine mandates. Have you tried their website? If you're not a member, I'm willing to try to find your missing ancestor. They have lots of NY stuff. Clark is Ken's surname so you can imagine that it has been hard to trace. Can't read if the Mann's in Charleston, IL are from VA or MA. My mother's side is all MA and onto Vermont and New Amsterdam to Canada and then to Ill via Detroit.. Dad's mainly came in through VA. Early migrants to KY and farther south although my paternal grandparents moved to DeKalb, IL between 1916-1920. Lot's of CT for Ken although his maternal grandmother was St. Mary Co., MD as part of the Catholic migration. What an addictive hobby!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Taco, totally agree it is addictive. My family came from Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio after crossing the pond from England and Ireland and other parts unknown prior to the American Revolution. DH's maternal line came to Ohio from Germany in the 1850s, paternal line has been traced back from Ohio to Kentucky to South Carolina in the 1700s.

We had horrible news yesterday. My step son Dr who caught covid at or about the time of his second shot, has received the results from last Fridays spinal tap. He has been diagnosed with MS.

I cried, he says he hasn't - he's still in shock. His dad is also in shock. He has an appointment with his neurologist in two weeks to go over diagnosis and treatment. I'm upset over this more than I was of my BC dx. He's 32. I'm hoping for the best, but acknowledging to myself that we'll need a plan for the worst.

We got out today for a nice long walk along the river. Clear our heads and just enjoy weather, 58 here. Funny, or not, I've been living in slippers in my homeschool life. And anytime I've had to go out, I've been in boots. This walk today, 3-4 miles, was in my sneakers, with orthotics in them. My right arch was screaming at me by mile 1, and my left leg feels like I have a shin splint. I hand rolled my shin, and will survive. But it's a covid lesson, I'll put the sneakers on more often even if I'm going no where.

Weekend temps, we' will be lucky if it will hit 40. Tonight is very windy, gusts here about 51 mph, with surrounding areas reported at 61 mph! A lot of power outages.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Petite, happy belated birthday! Carole, so sorry about your friend; may his memory be for a blessing. Glioblastoma is a rat bastard.

We're not changing our behaviors now that we're fully-vaxed. Still wear our masks outside the house (and now that we've started using valet parking again, in the car going home). When dining out, we keep our masks on except when not actively "ingesting." I've noticed that even the millennials among our fellow diners are conscientious about putting on their masks when standing up or when servers approach.

Did have an unnerving experience with a valet tonight, though. The restaurant--in a "yupscale" neighborhood devoid of garages & parking lots, only parking being on-street--just reinstated valet parking this week, and had only one guy on duty (most people were taking rideshares). As we were getting our check, I texted him with our receipt number. When he pulled up, my front license plate was dangling from a single screw! He swore he didn't do it (and we believe him); he took a screw off his own plate to re-fasten ours. (I know my plate had been on securely when I left the house).

When I got home I did some Googling and found that front-plate theft is very much a "thing" in Chicago: stolen plates are put on cars used to commit carjackings (up >200% since last year), which are then ditched and untraceable to the carjackers. Also, with gas prices skyrocketing (thank you, idiot Texas energy officials), the few gas stations that don't require prepayment before unlocking the pumps are seeing a rash of people filling up and then driving off without paying. Security-cams record the plates...which are of course stolen. In my case, somebody likely saw the would-be thief, who took off without completing his theft. Guess where I'm going tomorrow? Auto-Zone...on foot (car locked in my garage)...to buy 2 sets of "security" license plate bolts with special wrenches.

Cindy, your walk along the river sounds so enjoyable. Sorry about your bad news. Life is full of unexpected blows as well as blessings.

We had our last session with the countertop installation company yesterday and the final result is beautiful. I now have to do a little touch up painting on the wall above the backsplash. Plus I have to paint 40 (yes, 40!) wooden knobs that are glued on to drawers and cabinet doors. They are painted green to go with the old color scheme. I will paint them blue for the current color scheme.

I still haven't found tiles for the backsplash behind the stove. I'm looking for something colorful and decorative. So far I have looked online.

Yesterday I went to Belk's department store for the first time since we stopped going out because of Covid. I walked through the clothing departments and didn't find anything to buy and get my birthday discount.

    Happy Saturday.

Just wow !! I guess I would never make a great thief for a living. These things people do don't even occur to me. Well, I'll forgive my lack of imagination as I live in s small town where it is extremely difficult to get away with much so most don't even venture into the realm. I'm glad you are going to get help for your license plates Sandy. Another thing I didn't know -- bolts that need special wrenches so they are far harder to steal.

Cindy I am so sorry to hear about your step-son. That is hard to hear. More sad for his being a Dr. Walking is so good to help one sort out the ups and downs of life. Do wish though you had been able to do it w/o the pain. I think maybe using the orthotics more often would help as well. I think feet need to break into the good effects over time.

Cooler here today, and no sun ( silent scream ) but overall pleasant enough. No rain it is said though some might show up tomorrow. Busy working in my screen room. Going to make a fair amt. of changes in there I think. It would make a great storage area for some things -- though we are going to start re-using the pet door -- so it will have to be done with that in mind. Also moving my computer to the living room area. Always wanted a tv in here and never got one so I will be going where there is one. Daughter and her Dh will take over this room which is actually the third bedroom here.

I would love to see a picture of your countertops Carole. I have blue in my kitchen ( blue counters but they are pretty old ) so I do like blue. I have a lot of red accents in my kitchen but have been less fussy about making sure since we have lived here so long.

I hope you all have a good day.

36 here with full sun. If I bundle up I'll be able to get a walk in.

Sandy - good idea on the license plate bolts. In FL you only have 1, so very important to keep it. I'll look into those once we get back.

Carole - it will probably take more time taping off the knobs than to paint them. Turn on some good music and maybe it won't feel like it takes long.

The MS is similar to BC in that there are different types, and different treatments. And that everyone is different. Learning curve.

Jackie, enjoy your daughter & her husband.

Today I want to dust the whole house and vacuum too. But I also want to finish a book I'm almost done with. So cleaning will wait! Enjoy the weekend.

Probably 6-8" but still snowing today - saying 4-6" more today - so not the12-24" predicted. Need to get out and shovel the driveway - will leave most to DH as my back is still bothering me. No plans for any car travel. I work remotely on Mondays so if no snow day, I don't have to drive anywhere.

It is cloudy today. If it rains at all it will be late. So, hope everyone remembered to set their clocks ahead. We didn't so it is always a little bit of a surprise. Won't notice so much tonight since it is cloudy that we have the extra daylight. We are still hard at work moving me out of the third bedroom that I always called my office before. Also, making the screen room part storage for some things that don't need to be in here. Kitty door is going to be re-installed so that will be nice for them and us. Opening the door all day long was not always fun. Got plenty of walking in though.

Nothing special planned -- just the continuing work of re-doing areas. It is challenging. I'm going to be okay with it though. I imagine I will like it once I've got it all set up so it works as well for me as the bedroom always did.

Spoke too soon. Dh just came in and said it was sprinkling. Well, we know we can't totally trust the weather report here. Usually though it is better here than what is reported. Except of course, for today.

Got my hair cut a bit and a new perm on Friday. It had gotten so long that I needed to do something and I need either a perm or color for the body that comes along with. Since I don't need color, I get the perm. Everyone here liked it and so did I.

I hope you all have a nice Sunday.

I called Evanston Subaru yesterday--they don't carry theft-proof license plate screws and didn't know they were even a "thing." They said that any license plate screws on the market should fit, but I'm not sure. The parts guy also said the screws can rust out & fail--which might have been what happened to mine--the remaining original ones are all pretty rusty and don't look like they'd budge if I tried. Will likely buy some replacements at AutoZone and have the mechanic around the corner install them--he likely has the tools to remove the rusty ones.

Gonna need a trim and root-touch-up this week or early next, as I have to videotape a couple of concerts up in Madison on the 25th. It broke my heart, but I had to cut back my lovey pink left-hand nails so I can start practicing guitar & dulcimer and rebuild my calluses in time for the session. My fingertips are a smooth and soft as a baby's butt after all this time without playing (no need to play so I didn't), so the process is gonna be painful for awhile.

Well, the snow is a day late and now we have a blizzard warning till midnight - at my house at least 19" - running out of room to put the snow from the driveway. Thankfully, my school district called a snow day tomorrow by about 1pm. If it's still bad Tuesday, we move to remote learning. I'm looking forward to the extra time tomorrow to do things in the house to get ready for for DD, and Passover. Baked DD's peanut butter chocolate chip cookie (giant cookie) and then regular size cookies with the extra dough. I baked mandel bread on Friday for her to take home so she'll have lots of Mom's cookies going home. Denver is making the national news - headlines on NBC news. Worst snow storm in 5 years!! I think it will rival 2003. Denver made headline news on NBC at 4:30.

    Everyone stay safe

It was foggy when I got up thirty minutes ago. Now its dark and gloomy. I was halfway hoping for rainy weather to prevent me from doing yard work. DH mowed and did some trimming yesterday. This time of year we can always benefit from rain washing pollen out of the trees.
