Hugs, Mary. Inflammation isn't just of the muscles & joints that first come to mind. If any body part has blood flowing to it, it can feel super-sensitive due to inflammation. Hope all you have is flu or a bad cold.
Penicillin challenge this morning turned out negative for allergy! But I did it (including the final oral part) on an empty (save for black coffee) stomach--the 3 graham crackers & bottle of water after the second dose weren't nearly enough. And when I got home, I made myself an olive-oil-fried egg atop avocado toast with more black coffee. Bad idea: abx+fat+acid=ugh. Might not want to eat tonight. Definitely no wine.

Yeah, Sandy. It is a covid vaccination reaction. I should be fine tomorrow.

Sorry you're feeling bad, Mary. Hope it means your body is building up immunity.
It's looking very gloomy outside. I have no plans for the day except some exercise at the gym.

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.

After 3 days of dreariness, the sun is finally out and so welcome. Still cold but somehow the sun makes it tolerable. The hyacinths and daffodils are pushing up and I am looking forward to when they bloom. Had one tete a tete daffodil bloom so far and it was a welcome sight. Japanese piris is in bloom too. Seems like some of my bulbs may have been moved by squirrels since they are in spots where I would not have planted them. The squirrels had moved crocuses from my neighbors yard to mine (I had not planted them), so he asked if he could at least visit them. He was not interested in reclaiming them.
Had to order a new mirror mount system for the dresser mirror. When restoration companies clear a room, it seems they do it indiscriminately throwing out anything that has no value to them. We did manage to find the uprights (DD and DSIL had found them in the dumpster) but they were rusted and the mounting clamps were gone. We considered painting the uprights but needed to find mounting clamps at hardware store but had no luck. Did find them on ebay but cost plus shipping was $14 and needed 6, so costly. Did an online search and found a company in NC where new 5' uprights plus 6 clamps were around $60 with free shipping. They sent me an email thanking me for my business stating they were a small family owned business that was hit hard by Covid shutdown. So glad to be able to find what I needed at a more reasonable price, give the business to a deserving company and check off one more "to-do" on my neverending list. So the master bedroom is well on the way to completion. It still needs a working telephone connection, the drapes that have been at the cleaners for the past 16 months and rehanging of the wall art. So just some finishing touches.
Since the new bed has an adjustable base, the bedskirt was too long (no box spring to add height) and had to be shortened by about 6". I also had to make holes in it to accommodate the mattress support (a metal bar at the end of the bed). Originally I thought I would have to make a slit and re-enforce it with seam binding but found I only needed to make small squares, re-enforce the edges with overlapping stitching and then just slit the squares. The bar fit well so that is another "to-do" off my list. The bed is done. DH and DS had to cut new plywood seat supports for the antique wicker chairs I had in the room. Seems they must have been tossed as well since the furniture restorers said they did not receive them. They were then spray painted white to match the chairs. The mahoghany furniture was refinished and looks as good as the day we bought it over 45 years ago. Noticed one set of drawer pulls had been reinstalled upside down but that was an easy fix with a screw driver. So we will mount the mirror today and then I can start putting the drawer items back. After not seeing some of these items for over a year, it will be a moment to feel like I've just done some retail shopping for "new" items and perhaps some purging of those which no longer bring me joy (Marie Kondo moment).
So at the moment, about 1/3 of the house is done on the interior. The basement offices and entertainment areas are next. They did do the drywall patches but we need new flooring installed, and the walls will need painting. Last will be the livingroom and foyer. The livingroom needs new hardwood installed, wall painting and then decorating including hanging the drapes, etc. The foyer needs painting, evaluation of the stairs to see if they will need to be refinished and replacement of granite tiles or flooring depending upon whether or not they can extract only the cracked tiles. Still so much to get done and then once they are gone I have other househols projects that were placed on hold due to having to deal with this restoration.
I hope the weather holds for the weekend. Have a good one.

It is a little cooler since the front moved through last night with wind and rain. It is laundry day and the last load is drying. I have a few things to get at Walmart. I didn't care for it, too many people, but will run through with my list and get out of there.

Betrayal, so good to see you making progress on that three-year-old headache!!
As predicted, I feel fine today.
A mobile groomer came by yesterday, and we trimmed his face and his feet. No need for toenails, because we walk on cement three times a day. She gave me her recommendation on a comb. I will like this. We did it outside, he was on tieout and I held his head and his feet while she worked on them. He was a good boy, and got lots of treats.

I talked DH into doing a tour of a nearby senior place. They have assisted living and memory care on site, but I'm sure the cost for memory care would be through the roof. I can see my art stuff in the kitchen because we're hardly cooking there. I don't think we can pare our belongings down enough even for the 2 bedroom unit. We both have a ton of stuff. We need to get rid of most of it, but that will be a real job.

Finally home from my long Monday. I did the two ladies and also took the second one to the beauty shop to get her hair cut. It has been awhile for her. A bit of a chore with her walker, but I had cleaned my car recently so plenty of room in the back for it. Just getting used to doing it for someone again. So, I put dinner in the oven and we will have an early supper and snack if we need anything else. Tomorrow will be another nice day ( 60's all week ) and I won't have to go anywhere so that will be nice. Starting next week, a change. I'll do the one lady ( lots of work ) on Monday and the other on Tues. which is way less work. Going to take up a lot of days, but I'll work it out. I could change and do everyone on the same days and it is something I'll think about after I've tried it the new way.
Betrayal, glory be. Sounds like your getting closer now. Hope things keep moving fairly well. It will be a super treat to have your houses back together again. Hope any further aggravations are all very small ones and easily fixed. You deserve an easy time of it from here on out.
Wren, good for your looking even though it sounds like a 'future' reference. I do think the memory care is quite expensive. Dh's brother is in one of those places and it is well over $3,000.00 a month. Keep trying to cut back but it is not easy. So far, it is the short term memory that is the problem but it is a big one. You forget if you have medication, or have had a shower etc. He will never be able to go home again. His brother moved him to another 'center' a few miles away from the one here because it was a little cheaper. Turns out they don't do as much. There is not a whole lot of help I don't think for those with short term issues. I hope it works out for you when and if you do need to make some change.
MC -- glad you are doing okay today. Whew !! Petite, I know what you mean about Walmart. Seems to me there are more people than ever walking through w/o a mask. We are fortunate we live in this small town, but it is a mite un-nerving anyhow. I hope we all make it through. Maybe some of these people have had their shots, but still should have a mask to keep others safe. I'm waiting for the ladies I go to, to get their shots and immunity and I likely won't use a mask at their house anymore.
I hope you have all had a good day.

Wren44, That would be a big life change. When my mother was alive, I toured several and they were over $3k, with greater expense if more care is needed. Some are definitely better than others. Some are for "Boomers" and some are for the "Greatest Generation". While doing the tour for mom, I also thought about what I would want if I needed to make that decision. My mom chose to stay home with a caregiver.
IllinoisLady, That is a busy schedule you have.
It is cool today, but that should be the end of it.

Each moment is magical, precious and complete and will never exist again. We forget that now is the moment we are in, that the next one isn't guaranteed. And if we are blessed with another moment, any joy, creativity or wisdom it brings will ensue from the way we live in the present one. -Susan L. Taylo

Betrayal, it sounds like you will have a beautiful home when all the work is done. You are attuned to details.
We have an upscale retirement community nearby called Christwood. It has independent living cottages, apartments, assisted living care, nursing care. The people who move there are all wealthy. They can go through their final years stages without relocating until it's time for the funeral home. I know several people who live there and like it. There are meal plans so that you don't have to cook. A library. A gym. A beauty salon. During Covid the meals have been delivered. During normal times the meals are served in a lovely dining room. I was a guest some years back and the food was quite good.
I can't imagine us living in a place like Christwood. We're so blue collar in our backgrounds. We really should discuss future "probabilities" but so far we haven't.
Jackie, I'm sure the ladies you help are very grateful. My younger sister goes to an elderly lady's house once a week to sit with her and help her in any way she needs assistance. There are other caregivers the other days.
Not much planned for today. I may go to the supermarket if I need some ingredients for the chili I'm thinking of cooking for tonight. The cool weather we're having for a few days is good for chili.
Happy Saturday.

Had my second Moderna Covid shot yesterday at 12:30; 14 hours later I had chills and a temp of 102. Took some Tylenol and the fever is gone, but I've felt like a limp rag all day, didn't even get out of my nightgown. Tomorrow should be better.

Forgiveness is not a whitewashing of the past.
Forgiveness is declaring a new beginning to create space for a joyful present and future.

Limp for awhile is far better than covid. I'm glad you got control Puffin. Having a lazy day now and then ( even if forced in this case ) is probably a good thing. Onward to better times now.

After today we are in for several days of rain, according to the forecast. I have committed myself to going outside for some yard work. There has to be a beginning to any project. Hard to believe that I once spent hours in the yard doing gardening.

Back to feeling like myself. Took cemetery photos yesterday, went to Bone Builders this morning and am cleaning up flower beds. Going to be in the 50's today so will work in the yard most of the afternoon. The rest of the week will be cooler with showers possibly mixed with snow.

Puffin: My cousin and I were in to genealogy and loved to roam cemeteries in search of family members. I used to take my daughter (when she was much younger) who thought it was fun to try to find the grave markers and then try to read them. Many of them were weathered and sometimes illegible. My cousin has since died of metastatic BC and I miss those romps. I, too, took photos of the markers and have photos of my cousin in the background. Thanks for surfacing that memory. Genealogy is more fun when shared with like minds and loved relatives.

What is important is to realize that whether we understand fully who we are or what will happen when we die, it's our purpose to grow as human beings, to look within ourselves, to find and build upon that source of peace and understanding and strength that is our individual self. And then to reach out to others with love and acceptance and patient guidance in the hope of what we may become together. -Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross

Chevy - hope you're doing okay. The King Soopers mass shooting in Boulder has really at shaken up. It's 45-50 minutes from me so not close, but I've been shopping King Soopers for the 35 years I've been in CO. Before Covid, I shopped a few times/week, now I try to keep it to once/week, may two times. But to think it could have been my store which is 1/2 mile from me and another 1 1 /2 miles that I sometimes shop.
Snow on and off all week but doesn't seem to be much in each storm. Will turn nice on Sunday.
Have a good Tuesday

Chevy, could/would you check in and reassure us?

Good morning, ladies. It is cloudy, but rain is not expected. It should get up to 79 degrees. We have closing on a a piece of property we are selling in Levy county. We have had it since 2005 and dreamed of homes we would build. Each time we met with a builder and ready to go, something would happen and we couldn't do it. DH has multiple health issues and has decided to give up on this dream. We are sad to give up on this, but ready to move on.
My other issue for today, the the garbage company. Every few weeks they miss picking up the garbage. There are only 2 companies that pick up this area. The first one we had sold out to another company and they kept missing our pick up. We changed to another company that was good and they sold out to this company. So, here we go again. I have a call and an email into the manager.
Boulder shooter and Atlanta shooter. So, sad. So terrifying.
I am wordy today.

It is impressive to see a person who has been battered by life in many ways, who is torn by a variety of unsolved problems, who may be alienated from many aspects of the self--but who is still fighting, still struggling, still striving to find the path to a fulfilling existence, moved by the wisdom of knowing, "I am more than my problems." -Nathaniel Branden, Self-Esteem Every Day

Carol - Chevy lives in Denver not hear Boulder, so I'm guessing that she is okay. She is definitely not one or the victims as the news has listed the 10 victims and the oldest person was 65. Such a senseless tragedy.

Chevy's daughter works for that grocery chain but her store wasn't close. Way too close for comfort for anyone there or with someone there.

Wren - agree - I didn't realize her daughter worked for King Soopers. Glad she is safe. So horrible and scarey

Chevy's ( I call her Sunny ) daughter is fine. I called Sunny last night but didn't say anything earlier in case she wanted to come on herself. I knew her daughter worked for a King Souper, just not which one. Denver and Boulder are close enough that I worried about it till I finally called to find out for sure, since many people I know drive way farther to work. Janie and her co-workers were actually watching on tv and their store what was taking place at the Boulder store. That much have been difficult to watch. I'm glad though that Janie was fine but so sorry for those who lost their lives.
The shooter's brother said his brother was mentally un-stable and I kept wondering ( even though you can't force anyone ) did they make any reports or try to do anything to encourage this young man to seek any kind of help for his condition. Just another terrible and not easy to explain event that might have turned out much better if high-powered guns were not so available. I'm sure we will here a lot of "the" Democrats will take your guns or something similar. There is just not much reason for this type of weapon unless you are in the middle of a combat war.

Jackie, loved the Kuebler-Ross quote.
My nephew just wrote that the Boulder store is his local grocery. He had been there in the morning, received a text that a prescription was ready and almost took his 3 year old to pick it up. Call it God or Fate or Procrastination but I'm grateful they weren't there.

Taco - glad to hear that your brother and family is safe and he didn't venture to that king Soopers to get his Rx. This shooting has hit both my husband and I particularly hard - feeling very emotional. My husband has accounts in Boulder and has been in that store many times. Since Boulder, he does not get to his accounts often so he is not going into stores. Such a senseless tragedy.
Everyone, thanks for the updates on Chevy and her daughter.
