Sandy my latest “go to” to stop eating later in the evening is flossing & brushing my teeth. Once I’m done with that I truly don’t want to eat again, to floss & brush again. My laziness in this regard helps me.

I met a gf at a local park and we walked 3.4 miles. It was at 10 AM but humidity had us being ok with quitting.

Our pool needed water added when it hasn’t been warm enough for a lot of evaporation. We’re hoping there isn’t an undetected leak. I watered all my plants being I had the hose out. Then I got the clippers out to cut off all the dead heads in the rose bushes. That was a job! Sone are so high I can’t reach them. They’ll wait until I get motivated to pull out a ladder.

We had a handyman swing by for an estimate to paint two bedrooms, top to bottom, and the living room ceiling. $800 and mid September date to do it. It’s all plaster and one bedroom looks to need some taping, and removal of wall paper. I want it done badly, but I badly don’t want to have to clean these rooms out to get them painted. Too much stuff.

My birthday is Sunday. We’re planning to spend the day in the pool. Pizza & cake at 4. Heat wave hitting over the weekend. So a small family gathering in the pool where everyone can cool off and eat too. No cooking for any of us. Enjoy your weekend, and may you not have to cook either!

This quote is exactly what we need today. Spent 40 minutes "on hold" only to have the person who answered the phone tell me he could not hear me before I even finished stating my name! He then told me to call the number I had 40 minutes earlier and promptly hung up on me. I had to get back in the queue for another 45 minutes only to be told that they could not provide the assistance I needed. I will now have to wait until Monday to see if I can get through. I left a voice message on Wednesday and am still waiting for them to respond.

Very humid today so did not get as much gardening done as planned. DH is separating and organizing natural stone into "size" piles since it was left in a large unorganized pile. We will toss anything too small to be usable but most of it will be used on next project that we will tackle.

My left knee has been bothering me and I know I have severe arthritis in it. I have been fending off replacement by getting Orthovisc injections and the last round gave me over a year. Had my third injection today (Medicare pays for 4) and also the third time he has had to drain fluid from my knee. Each time it has been about an ounce so this is disappointing. When there is fluid in there I sorta know because bending my knee is hard as is going down stairs. Hoping the shots win out and give me more time because we have several trips planned for the fall and early next year. These are postponed bucket list trips that we want to do while we are both vertical and mobile. So fingers crossed that there is no fluid next week.

DH is a "ham" and is going to a Hamfest this weekend. So I will have free time to myself for the next 2 days, yeah! Sorry, but sometimes we just need some space and I am looking forward to it. Have a good weekend.

So that is the tight feeling when bending it further than accustomed! So far I have been doing well with tylenol and that topical nsaid and walking with my hiking poles when outside. I do not want to start having injections. I have been having trouble when hauling the bike trailer plus Tippy plus poles down to the garden. My mechanic is coming by this evening to check and see what we can do to hitch it up to the bike, even for a short distance like that (a bit less than a block).

I planted the creeping thyme seeds and sprayed the area. It will need to be sprayed daily. My neighbor and I had a laugh about my level of self-discipline in order to follow through on that. The seeds look like a powder. I mixed them with some dirt-- other have also used lime or sand.

It need not discourage us if we are full of doubts. Healthy questions keep faith dynamic. In fact, unless we start with doubts we cannot have a deep-rooted faith. One who believes lightly and unthinkingly has not much of a belief. One who has a faith which is not to be shaken has won it through blood and tears--has worked his or her way from doubt to truth as one who reaches a clearing through a thicket of brambles and thorns.

Mary, my left knee is almost bone on bone secondary to arthritis (occupational hazard) and the orthovisc replaces the lubication I no longer have. The fluid collection I get is probably related to a traumatic injury when we were on vacation in CO many moons ago. It was misstep and the first time I'd had a fluid collection. My rheumatologist at the tine, pooh-poohed my complaint about inability to descend stairs until she aspirated the joint. I had it done the first round of Orthovisc but smaller amounts and only once. Second round 6 months later, no need for aspiration. So this is third round at year 2 and I guess I'm just buying time now but will continue to do so as long as possible. After surgery in October and being out of commission for 10 weeks, I am not looking forward to being laid up again. Being allergic to one of the components in titanium means I have to seek alternative materials and an ortho surgeon who does them, and this is not easy. So I will stretch it as long as I can and if it means sucking it up, I'll do that as well.

Hope your mechanic can find a solution for you with your hitching to your bike.

Have had a really nice day today. My grandson from Agusta, Ga. came with his wife. He is in the army and will be stationed at Ft. Gordon. We had a cook-out on the grill with was really good although I had to be content with small amts. Then after, we gave Bree a birthday ( Carrot Cake ) and a card. Very impromptu. We only found out this morning as all were on the way back over that her birthday was tomorrow. Dh and I had to go out so we went to Walmart and got a card and the cake. It was a lot of fun.

Grandson is 21 ( my daughter's youngest ) and went to ROTC before -- so is hoping that he likes 'army' life. I hope so too. He is pretty intelligent and likely would do well.

Happy Birthday, Cindy. You're still a "kid" in my book. Your pool party sounds like a perfect way to celebrate.

I have found some relief for my arthritis in my wrists and knees by having acupuncture. Some insurance will cover it, but not mine. It's cumulative so I usually buy a package of 5 or 10 visits.

Take those trips while you can! Covid took those opportunities away from us. We had two scheduled in 2019 which we obviously couldn't take. Ken's health has deteriorated enough that he doesn't even want to fly to Maine to see our DD now.

After doing some reading, I have decided to look at the short-term and ask for an injection. Limiting my activity to prevent pain is not the way to go if I want to lose weight. The stiffness is probably due to scar tissue and inflammation.

We had rain yesterday. My gardening partner oiled the sprinkler we have, and it works fine, so I will be returning the other one that I ordered.

I went back to the rummage sale, and found a cookware set for $10.

Taco, so sad you missed that window of time for travelling with your husband. Life always changes.

I am lector at mass today and am so glad I practiced early. How do you pronounce "Abelmehola"? A-bel-me-ho-la should do it. Cain slew him, not you, a Spanish greeting. Accent on the "ho." according to youtube.

Mary, the benefits of the injections will permit you to be more mobile. 2 years ago I tore the posterior medial meniscus in my left knee and was unable to walk up or down my steep driveway for over a year. That's why and when I started the injections and also when I found out how bad my arthritic knee was. It limited my activity and that was not good for either my physical or mental health. To be able to traverse the driveway now so I can again garden at the front of the property is a blessing. I still have more work to do there after the neglect it suffered.

I would not have been able to pronounce that without checking a pronunciation source either. Good luck with it today.

Yeah, I am so frustrated at being unable to do what I want to do. Tippy demands walks, I want to work in my garden. I left a message to schedule an appt with my ortho. Time to let go and run this knee into the ground.

Now my other knee is hurting, probably because I am principally standing on it when not moving about.

Success has a great deal more to do with being than gaining. Whatever
we gain can be taken away from us by those who give it to us or those
who take it away. But real success rests on what we become
that is not given to us by anyone but ourselves.

Taco, We're in the same boat re travel. We were going to Hawaii when covid broke out. We're both high risk so we hunkered down for 2 years. DH's Parkinson's has progressed to the point that he can't travel any more. He also has dementia and will need memory care soon. Yesterday he was hunting his keys so he could take his car somewhere. He sold the car last fall.

wren, I know a lot of people postponed travel but to then have missed the window of opportunity due to health issues makes my heart ache. It’s a significant loss.

My partners mom in her 90’s wanted to take him to Paris. Having been there and walked our feet off, knowing more stairs to climb than elevators to take, we knew it was a pipe dream. The trip never occurred

Started out a rainy day, but finally turned into a dry one. We were planning to stay in and be lazy but got bored and decided to go to West Frankfort to the Ollie's store. It is an everything cheap store. They did have some decent prices but we did not really pick up anything much. Crossword puzzle book and Dh wanted a oouple of men's things. I mainly wanted to see just how cheap and if it was worth the drive. It is for us, but not until we have to go to Marion for something. It is along the way -- so that would be the time I would show up.

    Happy birthday, Cindy!

As of midnight, it's our 51st anniversary (to be hyper-accurate, since we had a noon EDT wedding, our anniv. officially begins at 11am Central tomorrow morning). We went out to the Palm with the kids last night for that (and belated Father's Day), and enjoyed the leftovers tonight.

Gonna ask the DPM if he can do the ingrown toenail (both sides of the nail) surgery first, since the nail itself and the callus on the outer bottom of my big toe have that burning pain that really bothers me. The bunion & joint only hurt when I'm wearing closed shoes. I found some open-toed sport socks, so I can wear them in my trainers without getting blisters (at least not if I remember to use the "body-glide" silicone stick or KT tape on the potential hot spots). I hope that when he does the bunion/MTP joint arthrodesis surgery, that callus will go away because my weight won't be concentrated on that side of the toe. If I'm not, and I'm still going to have that burning in the nail & the callus, I think I'll take a pass on getting the bunion fixed and the joint fused. The third-toe callus hurts less (though the scab looks sort of creepy) now that he trimmed it and I found those socks that don't smoosh my toes together.

But my back & hip still hurt too much for me to do any but the stretching PT exercises. Wanted to take a walk today because the weather was so nice, but I couldn't handle it, at least not in closed shoes. (I can't do long walks in sandals, as I get pebbles in my feet. I think in a past life I may have been the inspiration for "The Princess & the Pea"). I see a different therapist tomorrow (Brooke), who might have some ideas.

The State Dept. has cashed Bob's check for passport renewal, so hopefully that means they're processing his application so we can go back to Canada (Toronto, Montreal or perhaps Vancouver if he doesn't mind that long a flight) before summer's end when the Bar Show rehearsals start ramping up again (and I have a gig in Madison).

Those of you with cats, do any of yours dip a paw into the water bowl and use it as a kind of cup from which to drink the water? Happy has begun doing that. Wonder if his whiskers have gotten too long &/or sensitive to stick his tongue into the bowl?

To love very much is to love inadequately; we love--that is all.
Love cannot be modified without being nullified.
Love is a short word but it contains everything. Love means the
body, the soul, the life, the entire being. We feel love as we feel
the warmth of our blood, we breathe love as we breathe the air,
we hold it in ourselves as we hold our thoughts. Nothing more
exists for us. Love is not a word; it is a wordless state
    indicated by four letters.

In case I forgot ( which I am sooooo good at ), Happy Birthday Cindy, as well ass Happy Anniversary to you Sandy. Beautiful day here and I'm hoping everyone is having the same. It is said ( by weather people ) we will have a cooler week and the humid or blistering temps will be at bay for awhile. .Anytime that happens I am a happy camper.

Nothing special set up for today. I think I mentioned that I am now off the heavy water pill and I'm so far doing well. Had an off day Saturday a bit. I discovered ( too busy to read ingredient list ) the Smart water that was brought had too much salt in it for me, so in spite of limiting my portions of food fairly severely I felt some salt accumulation later on. Took a bit to get it worked out but seems that I was able to move it out. Feeling fine this a.m. for sure. I'll get re-started on my exercise program and hopefully feel even better.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Sandy, My cat uses her paw to see what the water level is, then drinks from the bowl. I had one cat who only drank water from her paw. I guess as long as they drink enough, it doesn't really matter.

I have had both kinds of drinking cats -- and several who slide their front feet back and forth before they start drinking -- like they are trying to judge where the rim of the water bowl is in relation to where the water is. I really don't quite get it, but they don't go thirsty, and just seeem to do a strange ritual dance before they drink.

Happy Birthday Cindy and Happy Anniversary Sandy.

Back from vacation and back to my routine. I had PT, then REIKI this morning. Finally finished three loads of laundry and I'm trying to catch-up.

We enjoyed spending time with our kids and their dogs. The beach rental was nice and close to to the ocean. The stairs down to the beach had wash away. Going down to the beach was ok, but there was no way I could climb back up. Luckily the community had stairs over the dunes that had been repaired throughout the beach. They've had some bad storms in late May, early June. The town of Rodanth NC lost several homes, one was destroyed right into the ocean. It's nice to be home though.

We have one cat who drinks from the far end of the water dish and the other seems the sticks her entire chin into the water to drink.

When I had my bowel resection a couple years ago the tests had shown I had a cyst on my ovary. The doctor has been monitoring it every 6 months with ultrasounds and this time it had grown. Had an MRI last week and today the Dr said it's gotten large enough to be considered a benign tumor so I'll be having laprascopic surgery to remove the ovary and tubes on Aug 16th. Wish they could have removed my ovaries at the same time they did the bowel resection.

Good to see you Puffin but sorry that you are having this issue. Good to hear that the growth is considered benign. I had everything out when I had a grapefruit sized tumor since I never stopped having periods though they were not much, but I was over 5o then and had my tubes tied much earlier on -- so I certainly didn't need those organs anymore. A relief to see them go and be able to have a full menopause finally.

Happy Birthday, Cindy and Happy Anniversary, Sandy.

I have one cat that drinks from his paw, but also has fun splashing in the water dish and making a mess. He use to swim in the pool when he was a kitten, but once he fell in, not on purpose. After that he stopped going in the pool. He will stick his paw in for a drink.

Illma, I had a lot of skin issues with radiation, but hung in and finished treatment. Check on the Radiation discussion groups.

Heading to the orthopedic doctor to check my hip. It's been 10 weeks since replacement. Took a 2 mile walk this morning, so I'm doing pretty good with my recovery.

It's a beautiful, sunny day here. Glad we walked early before it gets too hot. Enjoy your day

Begin and end each day with an expression of gratitude and thanksgiving. Every morning when you awake you have been given the gift of a sunrise and twenty-four hours to live. This is a precious gift. You have the wonderful opportunity to take this day and live joyously, with appreciation for everything that you encounter. Take a deep breath and be grateful for this exhilarating experience of breathing in life and love. Similarly, end your day with an expression of love, and a repetition of the word for peace, "Shalom." -Wayne Dyer

Should be a nice day today. All week, in fact. I hope so. Quiet out -- doesn't look like a leaf moving anywhere on the trees. Nothing special planned today. Just some indoor exercises mainly. I could do some walking outside if the weather is as nice as I think it might be. Time to put some mileage on my pedometer.

I may go ahead and reset it to a.m. rather than p.m. as I forget to record after 12:30 p.m. There are ways of checking but like everything for me that has some sort of electronic component, I'm not sure how to access it. I'm sure it is likely easy -- but I've not taken the time to read up on it. Maybe I should.

Hope you all have a really nice day.

Jackie: An old WW recommendation is that mushrooms and French cut string beans have a mild diuretic effect.

Belated happy birthday to Cindy and anniversary to Chisandy. Many more to both.

Floor guys have ripped out old floor in living room and are currently installing new oak flooring. They are also to refinish the basement stairs, upper hallway and stairs between foyer and second level. There are still little things that need to be done such as painting old patio lights to match new ones, etc. I have not seen my living room drapes since November of 2019 and look forward to seeing them again, Same for the furniture. It will be like having a new room.

Beautiful day today after rain and high humidity yesterday. Have MO appointment and should be getting results from SIBO test I had from GI doc today. Have a great day all.

I know from experience that fresh green beans act as a diuretic. I never noticed that effect from mushrooms.

I'm very grateful for a few days of cool temperatures with the door and windows open to the fresh air. Call it climate change or different weather, this summer has been unlike the nine previous summers. We've had more storms with colliding hot and cool weather systems, some of the storms violent and destructive.

My personal opinion is that climate change is occurring and the economic toll will (I hope) cause our political and business leaders to support changes in an effort to save our planet. Already in my home state of Louisiana,, it is getting more and more difficult to get home insurance. Many insurers have gone bankrupt or just pulled out.

My plan for today is to go to the gym and make a few stops afterwards. Wishing everyone a good day.
