Oh, Sandy, you're scaring me. I have an appointment Thursday with Dr. Hoeper for left leg pain, Not only knee, pain moves from groin to down right side of leg, to left side, to left buttock, to hip... If not in one place it's in another. PT said Dr. Hoeper would probably do a hip xray. Then I imagined, knowing very little about any of this that maybe I'd get cortisone shots. CT of cervical spine was clear a year ago in ER after I tripped on uneven sidwalk join. Did not occur to me until your post that I might need an MRI. Sort of scares me.

Welcome back old lady blue! Happy anniversary Carole. Sandy good luck with your knee. As for men and technology, my partners the same with his phone and even the tv - switching from HDMI1 to HDMI2 for streaming. But I too use the minimally needed things in my car. It’s a 2019 Impala where I think we can hook up our phone to the good size screen to have maps show up but we’ve never done it. Lazy or technologically impaired, I’m unsure.

I’ve contacted the orthopedic hand specialist to get an appt, my left hand/thumb is killing me. The anastrazole has caused many SE over the years, hand joints being one of the issues. The right hand had surgery about 2 years back, and I’m hoping the left doesn't need it. I’m actually thinking of asking my MO if I can stop the AI in November (3 months shy of 5 years), that’s when I see her again. Any way, hand dr can see me on 8/11. I asked to be on the cancellation list because like most, I waited to call until I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. If it gets too bad I can go to their walk in service but won’t see my dr.

I’m still doing PT for the hamstring and boy is it painful. He massages the area, my hip and cheek areas, with his elbow. It’s painful. I sat on ice today from yesterdays treatment, after walking about 4 miles today I just needed it iced. It’s been a few weeks so I need to ask should I feel worse before I feel better?

We were supposed to get a severe thunderstorm but fortunately it missed us. I went paint shopping yesterday at Sherwin Wms and they were so great giving me a contractors discount! I picked the wall colors too. Five gallons of their paint cost me about $175, I was very happy and hope I like them on the walls. Not getting painted until September, so I’ll be back to have them shaken again.

I’m heading to Saratoga tomorrow evening to see the NYC Ballet perform. A gf who I worked with for years is going with me, we go every summer if we can.

Car going in for an inspection and oil change with tire rotation on Thursday. So tomorrow after the ballet I’m dropping it off so I’m not sitting up there all next morning.

I went to get a new pair of contact lenses and only found 3 lenses left. Which means I’m really due for an exam before I run out. I could order new ones from Canada but I think I need the exam. My Fresh Lens will ship to the US and it’s usually less costly than local dealer. I get yearly exams for glaucoma, cataracts, floaters etc… but I’d have to pay out of pocket for contact lens fitting. Just easier to go directly to regular eye glass place.

I’ve rambled on to tell a a jumpy story, I think it’s becauseI’m tired and not staying on track. All have a good night, and a great day tomorrow.

    Happy Anniversary, Carole.

OldLadyBlue - glad to have you back. Many of us had trouble with the site in the past several months as they were supposedly "upgrading" the system. I hear you about the arimidex melt-down. I was always angry. Didn't even realize how much until I switched to Femora. I didn't do my five years on that either. QOL was more important. Sadly, I really think my knee replacement would have gone better without AI's too. While I'm not as busy as many on this site, I feel I'm a pretty healthy and active 76, 5 1/2 years post op. I worry about my DH health but a mild tranquilizer has helped with that anxiety.

I fell into a sand trap on Saturday. I can laugh about it now. I had no business trying that shot but my playing partner said it was the most graceful fall she had ever seen. I had managed to get myself up before the group behind rushed to my rescue. I thought I'd have a bruised hip but that didn't even happen.

I too feel technologically challenged. I think part of it is not enough patience and willingness to "do the research." I've always seen myself as the "big picture" person and directions are for "the other person." I do use the GPS on my phone and manage my genealogy on line but I've never succeeded in setting up a spread sheet and I had a terrible time sending pictures to CVS to be developed yesterday. I have been fortunate to have people around me who like to and are good on the details and I hope I tell them how much I appreciate them. I bought the computer my friend told me to and think secretaries are a real gift. When all else fails, I call my detail-oriented daughter!

A decade ago I was registrar for our annual regional Folk Alliance gathering, and it's only recently that spreadsheets have stopped invading my nightmares. Now that I've started rehearsing again the old trope has resurfaced, of finding myself onstage without a set list--surprised to find I'd even booked the gig.

Taco, inquiring minds want to know--besides having been physically rescued from the sand trap, were you able to make the shot? I used to be pretty good at that--hitting out of bunkers was actually easier for me than my short game--till my back blew out and I had to give up golf. People would ask me my handicap, and I'd reply "3." They were impressed (more accurately, incredulous) till I explained that "3" meant "big boobs and a bad back."

We're going down to the dealership first thing in the morning to trade in the Fusion, pick up the Tucson, and have the service dept. pair our phones via Bluetooth and show Bob how to work Apple CarPlay (especially the maps). Turns out Siri works with Apple Maps in CarPlay (Bob will have to enable Location Services on his phone...sigh, I mean *I* will have to go into Settings to do that for him), and when the map is on screen the compass direction is in the upper right corner. Won't mess with the new CD player, as he will have enough to deal with driving the new car down to his office in Hickory Hills. (We're tag-teaming, with me in my Outback--no way am I spending an arm & a leg getting a taxi or rideshare from Bronzeville back up here 13 miles to Edgewater, nor futzing around with a 4-block walk to the commuter rail station and then transfering to the CTA).

Judy, sounds like classic sciatica. Welcome to the club. I liked Hoeper, who gave me cortisone for the hip bursitis I had in 20i5, 5 mos. before bc. Was sort of hoping he'd be whom I saw on my walk-in visit, but though Bass is young, she's pretty good. I notice the sports-medicine orthos have trainers as assistants, while the surgeons have P.A.s. I have PT tomorrow afternoon, and may let Mara K. try some deep-tissue stuff (will just grit my teeth & go through it). My MRI is on the 20th. At the very least, it'll tell the neuro (Kincaid) where to perform an EMG in Sept. (if necessary). Did notice last night I got focal (index finger) dystonia in my L hand as I was changing dulcimer strings (trying to remove fragments of string from the slotted peghead, which is a small-motor skill more exacting than even hand sewing). First time it happened in Feb. 2020 as I was going through my clothes rack it scared the crap out of me. Happened again last month while teaching a workshop--I simply wrenched my finger back to normal, gently slapping it and quipping "bad hand--naughty, naughty." Last night, the finger suddenly splayed out and down--but was able to manipulate it back. Gotta rule out basal ganglia involvement. I'm slowly realizing that the very occasional "misplaced" fingers (fretting the wrong string) I've had over the past decade might be a form of that. ("I wrote it that way" works only once per audience).

Hello ladies! Thanks for the warm welcome! This site has been a little overwhelming for me.

Pretty much I think I've made up my mind to stay off of the AIs. I must try to do some other healthy things for myself though, like exercise, diet, and mentally uplifting stuff. Thanks for letting me vent.

Cardplayer, it would be great if I could have a purring cat on my lap! I am allergic to cats but always loved their softness and purrs. Give yours a few extra pats and hugs for me would you?

Illinoislady, yep, you are so right, my anger levels are almost gone now. I have always been quick to fire up over things, but NOTHING like it was on the AI. Before I got the Sheriff called on me, I had an argument a few days earlier in a shop with the manager... looking back, I see it now, seething anger lying underneath. And the feeling of arthritus, gosh, it was so bad daily. All gone now. I'm wishing I could help tutor you on your phone and computer. I find them easy to use and would like to ease your confusions. My favorite job was as a tutor. Nice to take a confusion and turn it into smiles and knowledge. Thanks for your quotations posts too. I really like them. Long ago in high school I had an English teacher who always had a quote on the chalkboard daily. I still think of her because of her love for good quotes even though I can't remember her name.

CaroleH, where is your campground? The Good Life Cafe was fun? Yes, good name for sure.

mcbaker, kind of you to weed your neighbor's garden. I do get sort of a perverse pleasure out of pulling plants out of the ground (the weeds) after spending so much time nurturing the ones I want to grow. Yesterday I got bit by red ants when transplanting a Penta, my right hand is still swollen up. Mean ants.

Chisandy, in Florida I think you can still cancel your car purchase up to 3 days after you take it home. If you've not picked it up yet, you should make sure you haven't missed your chance to cancel if you want to. I hate buyer's remorse.

karen1956, I appreciate your story and thank you so much for sharing. What does the 1956 mean? I was born in '56, Nov 17th. 17 has always been my lucky number. Got married this time on the 17th and it's been my luckiest marriage.

Talk to everyone later. Hope you have a great day!

Lady Blue, we spend the summer at Pine Hollow Resort in northern MN, located on the shore of Island Lake. It's more of a seasonal campground than a resort. Fourteen sites for campers that are used as little summer homes. Most people come on the weekends and holidays but three couples are full time and two condos are rented by single people, a man and a woman. The owners live in the resort in a gorgeous new home.

It's a very friendly atmosphere with a lot of socializing. Most of the renters have boats that are tied up at the resort dock.

Our pleasant weather is supposed to end tomorrow as hot temperatures return. Ugh. Back to closing up and turning on the a/c.

I didn't water the area that I had planted with creeping thyme last night, so that needs to be done. Shower and wash my hair. Once I am done with the weeding, I will rake up the dead weeds and throw them into the dumpster. I don't want her weeds to escape into my garden. I have enough problems with weeds coming in from the part that borders on the lawn. If my neighbor wants, we can work on putting down cardboard and grass clippings to keep the weeds down, which is what I do.

I also need to take the Tramadol to the police station to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands (there is No privacy here). Then take the pillowcases to my beautician's. Call my daughter and have another babies discussion with her. Have a training session with Tippy.

I am grateful I didn't have to take the immune suppressants. My bones are solid, and hopefully they will remain so, even with routine steroid injections.

Had a minor procedure yesterday afternoon so I'm taking it easy for the next couple of days. I'll miss my morning walks though.

We had nasty thunderstorms that came through yesterday evening. We had pea size hail, wind and lightening. Zapped one of our GCFI outlets and now we're not able to open our garage door. Electrician comes Friday.

I've been on AI drugs for 18 months now. First on letrozole and now on anastrozole. I've had various issues with my hands and some joint pains, but otherwise no major issues. It's hard to tell if my joint pains are from anastrozole or from my arthritis. My medication that I take from my arthritis isn't as effective since I've been taking anastrozole and I can't increase the dosage of my arthritis medication due to toxicity.

My DH has been driving a 2005 Camry that has less than 55000 miles. It just passed inspection so I expect he'll have it for another year. Before retirement, he always worked within 5 miles of home. We were both in IT and sometimes worked for the same companies

    Have a wonderful day!

Emotions give life texture and depth, but there's an art to managing our moods. Once we cultivate inner balance we can immerse ourselves fully in every experience without fear of going overboard. When we're conversant with our emotions, we learn to nurture positive feelings and defuse disturbing ones.

On here late today. It was my day to go help on the farm. Glad I did, but wow -- sometimes it gets me a bit. Overall though my stamina level is I think much better. I am on Losartan now 25 mgs. twice a day and thinking that is helping as well. I'm almost through with my iron supplement and I think I will be able to go without that as their is no refill on it. I think I'm doing fine and I have lots of color now ( pink ) where I had almost none before. When I get to STOP taking things for now I see it as pretty much improvement.

I've been off the Torsemide ( water pill ) for some time now and not having issues. Made me nervous at first, but I'm over that hump.

Good left-overs tonight as I made spaghetti and meatballs last night knowing I'd likely not feel like cooking today/night. Applesauce for dessert so nothing much to do which suits me fine.

Old Lady, I put in quotes every day. I'm not a teacher although some people have asked me if I was. I just learned to love quotes very much after I had a stroke and 'forgot' so much. I've re-learned it all, but I started using quotes out of frustration because not only did they uplift me, but said for me what I wanted to say but many times couldn't. Always loved them but really needed them later. Hmmm, we are given oftentimes what we need, but I've not tired of how good they make me feel and it is something I like to share with others and hope it gives them a bit of a boost as well.

Well, onto the rest of my day. Trying to do this and catch up with some news at the sam time. Note to myself: I'm not much of a multi-tasker anymore.

Sandy - I missed the shot. The ball wasn't in the bunker, but about a foot from the edge away from the green. I had no stance and lost my balance when I hit the ball - this time into the sand trap. I was sure my hip would be bruised but it wasn't. How unexciting my life is when that is the highlight of the week!

I'm not a good golfer but I really enjoy it. I played all through Covid with a small group who were VERY careful, even masking up in the locker room to post our scores. The Club was also letting us take separate carts for much of the time.

    Stay safe everyone!

Peace of mind just can't be bought. Trust me: Even if your conscience doesn't stop you from playing dirty to get what you want, once you get it, it will keep you from enjoying it.

As my mother used to say, "A good conscience is God's eye." Which is why I always prefer a loss to an underhanded gain; the one brings pain at the moment, the other for all time.

Likely another hot day here. We are having a little bit of a get-together this afternoon. My grand-son ( it is his parents who are living with us here ) is coming back through today. Kate's birthday was the 12th. but we are having cake and ice cream after the meal tonight -- a barbecued chicken cook-out on our deck. It should be rather nice but I have a lot to do to get ready today and have to go buy a cake as well.

I don't do much for exercise because I get so much working around here and on my friend's farm. I am working on increasing my steps. Likely they are better than I think as I keep forgetting to check on the cut-off time -- so the pedometer starts over. Since I only needed to know my steps -- I didn't have the thing programmed to let me go back and check what my tallies from previous days were. Sigh !!! Some of these things keep the previous steps automatic - if you program it in.

It's okay -- everything else seems to be going good so it is not crucial that I have that information. In fact, I have hopefully ( after a couple of blood pressure drops which were low enough to make me feel horrid ) gotten my system to be fine with upping the Losartan.

I hope you are all going to have a good day. Glad your weather is going to be better Carole.

oldladyblue, I live near the country club and don't golf at all, but it is a pleasant place to walk.

The heat and humidity have been nearly unbearable and my electric bill has increased to rates I have never seen. We are still getting the afternoon storms, but it doesn't cool down very much. I don't know how people that work outside can do it. Today, I am going to lunch with a friend. It has to be inside dining. LOL No river walk today.

If you have a iPhone, there is a heart app ❤️ that tracks your steps. It’s usually on the first page of your phone. It also tracks your number of miles. Click on Show all health data. Android phones may have similar features. The heart app also provides the ability to track your medications and health information. Medical ID information can be accessed in case of an emergency. I’ve been using it for a while to track the number of miles I walk per day. I also maintain my medication list and health information (allergies, surgeries, vaccinations, etc).

I did order a Fitbit recently. Decided to track more heart information in addition to my steps. It hasn’t arrived yet. I had a minor procedure Tuesday, so I’m still recovery and not doing my normal walking. Hope to get back to my routine in a couple of days.

The storm the other day zapped one of our GCFI in the garage, so now the garage door won’t open with the remote. Electrician comes tomorrow. We have no errands to run and DH can get stuff out of the garage through the side door or open it manually.

    Enjoy your day.

I went out to pick Japanese beetles. Got a handful, not enough for a meal, but if I keep at it, I should soon be able to have enough to serve as the meat in a stew. I got some young green beans. Neighbor has decided that her problem is that she underplanted. That is a good part of the problem, I think. She is thinking of zucchini. Might be OK, even if only as a cover crop.

I had to put up a barrier of tomato cages to keep Tippy from destroying the asparagus beans. I have two corners of a tarp attached to metal poles, the other two to stakes in the ground as a shelter form the sun for him. He is black and can easily get overheated. The radio has worked wonders. But we still have a way to go. It is endearing how he runs to me when he feels the vibration. He wants me to protect him from whatever is causing that. Long story short, his behavior is causing that.

I guess I'll do some laundry. I have a drying rack now. Maintenance guy has put in a strongly worded request for a replacement umbrella-type clothesline. I should have waited. Aah, well.

Mary, I have one of those umbrella clotheslines. Love the thing. My SIL took a five gallon bucket and filled it with quikcrete then put the pole that holds the line in there. Now I can move the line all over and even have it put up on my deck if I don't feel like going downstairs to hang the clothes I don't have to. I do have to have someone strong and available though to bring the 'bucket' up on the deck. It was my SIL's idea. I'd have never thought of it because even though I may have been innovative at one time, it is no longer there.

I got the clothesline for my birthday one yr. Dh didn't know what to get for me and I insisted it be a clothesline. He was horrified I think, but it was one of the best birthday presents I've ever gotten.

We have Bill ( big black Lab Retriever ) at the groomer's now. Going to get his summer cut finally. He is old enough that he no longer wants to spend hours outside so we were late doing it. It will last the season now though.. He is content to do his business and pretty much come back in. The only time he doesn't is when our neighbor friends come for the week-end at their cabin next door and Bill and Minnie ( minature pinscher ) run over to visit and get their treat bones. I'm fortunate to have neighbors who love animals and welcome having mine come for a visit. We do have leash laws here but it is about the only place outside of our yard ( 2 acres with woods ) that my dogs will go so I don't have to worry too much.

Sandy, oh these orthopedic woes Saw Dr. Hoeper in Skokie- a thorough and kind doctor, unlike the DO I saw there 5 months ago who paid no attention when I said I had groin pain and misdiagnosed my left leg pain and difficulty walking normally as mildly osteoarthric knee. Dr. Hoeper said groin pain is the give away that it’s a hip problem. Xrays of the hip unfortunately revealed bone on bone osteoarthritis. I was hoping beforehand that he would say ,” oh a little tendonitis,” or that I would get a cortisone shot. Nope, not for this. He advises hip replacement and talked to a surgeon for me. Have an appointment on the 28th. Must educate myself around this.I know zilch about orthopedic surgery or surgeons. In the meantime, a new PT order for hip- if not too painful. Hate it when I hear what I don’t want to hear.

oldladyblue - golf and I have a strange history. Ken's family belonged to a country club and he played regularly. His high school golf team won that state championship. Enter me - a klutz in a family of klutzes. I went to a liberal arts college that required PE credits. The spring of our engagement I decided I needed to take a golf course. I had all kinds of romantic notions about family golfing at the time. I think I only passed because I could do well on the rules tests because I sure couldn't hit the ball.

Ken and I were vacation players until we retired in 1997. I took enough lessons that I could play and we enjoyed playing as a couple. I found a woman's group in retirement too. Ken quit 9 years ago and my neighborhood golf buddies aged out. I joined the local country club and have played 2-3 days a week since then. Now sometimes 4. I'm still not good but love the friendship and the chance to be outside. Was very grateful to play during Covid. So this makes a short story long but it's never too late to try, especially if you don't take yourself too seriously. Our group has two women in their 90's, both who play better than I do.

Petite - I'm surprised that you can just walk on the golf course. Can't (or maybe I should say aren't supposed to) on any here. I suspect it has to do with insurance rules more than anything.

Sandy and KeyWestern - sorry to hear about all the orthopedic problems. They aren't fun. I got a survey this morning asking how I was doing 3 years post knee replacement. I've also had a carpel tunnel repair and archillies tendon work too so really can emphasize..

I'm a decade out from my R knee and 9 yrs. out from my L total knee replacements (TKAs). Judy, you should have a much easier time with a hip replacement: the rehab and recovery time is much shorter than with TKAs. (According to my Bar Show castmate, the wife of my now-retired TKA ortho surgeon--she had both hips done a month apart). The first few days you have to sleep on your back with your legs apart (they give you a wedge pillow) and you're not supposed to bend over at the waist. But the rehab exercises are gentle and you heal quite rapidly. Because you live in an elevator building without stairs, you likely won't need to stay in an inpatient rehab center--you can go for your PT exercise sessions at EAC via rideshare or taxi (maybe even walk there, albeit more slowly than right now--you will be weightbearing right away). If N.Shore offers "joint replacement school" (like it did before my TKAs) I suggest you take it. You might also want to make a reservation for inpatient rehab just in case: for my TKAs, the PT sessions were twice daily, plus daily OT, and it might be easier--especially if someone else is doing the cooking & housework. I recommend either Alden at Old Orchard (exclusively for joint replacement patients) or Alden North Shore on Touhy just e. of Village Crossing (orthopedic rehab only). They have restaurant-style dining rooms, movies, and even ice cream parlors.

The automotive buyer's remorse has faded. Bob loves the car. I drove it to Mon Ami Gabi tonight (Bastille Day), and it synced to my phone right away. We got 38.8 mpg by the time we pulled back into our garage. Hard to believe, since it's higher & wider than my car, which averages about 27 at best. But here's what's weird yesterday at the dealership, AppleMaps brought up directions to Bob's office...and he didn't even ask it to. And tonight as I headed n. on Lake Shore, I glanced at the map and saw "Home--ETA 10 min." (Cue Twilight Zone theme). It drives very smoothly, much more so than my Outback (which makes sense as my car's 8 years old).

Had to take Heidi for her mani-pedi today. Found out why she's been meowing loudly at us and demanding cuddles these past couple of weeks: a few of her front claws were getting ingrown again. She's now on the every-4-weeks plan, just like me.

Hello all! Nice to see you! Rained here again last night, so I don't have to water my plants. Went to ceramic class yesterday to finishing glazing a few items. Looked at the golf course again, might have to drive in and ask what it costs to play. What, Japanese Beetles, you put bugs in your stew? That's a new idea for me. Hmmmm. Glad Bob loves the car, great the remorse is gone. Loved the Patti LaBelle quote. What is a fitbit?

    ladyblue-- JK

fitbit is a fitness watch. I have a friend who uses kava. Yesterday I did a bit of research, as CBD is too expensive. I borrowed a bit from my friend last night. I went to bed at 9:30 and went immediately into deep sleep. Worked up to light sleep and REM, woke up enough to look at my watch at 4:30. Got up at 5:40. Sleep score of 86 (think measure of proficiency in school). I am going to reduce dosage tonight and see what that does. Concerned about interaction effects and liver functioning.

KeWest-- {{hugs}} I don't know how far into the future my knee replacement will be, but that steroid injection really helped. And the pain is manageable, even after two weeks.

Leash laws here are not enforced. Only if there is a problem. Tippy is a problem. We have not had any opportunity yet to have time for a session specifically to work on trusting him off-leash. However, I think that we will accomplish that within a week. He is beginning to realize that I am the only treat-giver.

Dropped one of my hearing aids in the sink while I was running water this morning. 😱 I have it in the dehumidifier to see if I can get it working correctly again. They're 6+ years old, have been refurbished once, so they're getting close to replacement time.

I got the Fitbit Sense which has some heart monitoring features. Still playing with the setup. Right now, it’s buzzes when I don’t move enough. Haven’t been taking our morning walks since I’m still recovering (doctor said give it a week) I haven’t been able to test all the features. But it’s tracking my steps. It has other features - sleep, meditation, etc. but I’m not wearing it at night.

Keywestfan- I had my right hip replaced posterior in 2016 and left hip replace anterior in April. I had issues with recovering the right side. Lots of muscle pain. But I think it was the surgeon. He did not have me do PT, until I started to have problems. I recovered quickly this last time. Different surgeon. Started PT the day after surgery. My replacement was due to avascular necrosis and I had previous hip surgery (core decompression) in 2007, 2008. Hope you get relief.

    Enjoy your day

So many brilliant and gifted people squander their gifts because they lack the humility of self-understanding. When we think we know it all, we miss the point. When we think we know everything about ourselves, we show our ignorance and our arrogance. The wonder of human beings is that we are constructed in such a way that we can spend our entire lives exploring our inner universe and its connection to the universe as a whole and still barely scratch the surface.

We are a wonder for us to behold. -Anne Wilson Schaef

A little over cast today, but not bad. Hopefully it will help it feel cooler. Had a great time with the family yesterday. A little upset with the dogs since two ( mine ) were free and the other two were on run ropes. Had to take Minnie to the vet to treat some puncture wounds. One of the visitor dogs feeling its restraints got nervous and went for Minnie. All was fine. Just needed some antibiotics for her.

Despite having cake etc. ( very minimal amts. of salt and fattening foods ) I actually lost wt. I kow it wasn't really due to how I behaved yesterday, but my activities in the preceeding days. Good to know that I can make a difference when I'm a lot more mindful about activity level along with careful eating.

Going to Mt. Vernon today. to get my favorite bagged frozen corn. No salt and it tastes wonderful. It is the store brand too I think. I didn't buy much last time because I didn't know if I would like it. Wow -- I love it.

Hope you all have a good day.
