Happy Birthday Keywestfan! Enjoy your celebration. Celiac - glad to see the Bengals win. Sorry to hear about DH blood clots. I had a blood clot in my calf when I was 17 and again when I was 19. They put me on a coated aspirin regimen for several years. Never figured out the cause, just one of those things I guess. Never had an issue since.
Doing my usual Monday activities- I made spaghetti squash and did some cleaning so far this morning. It’s another blustery day. Winds are again in the 20-30mph range. I don’t remember having winds like this last winter. So an inside exercise day.
Thinking of you petite. Hope everyone is doing well. Have a healthy and peaceful day.

We are all citizens of one world, we are all of one blood.
To hate people because they were born in another country,
because they speak a different language, or because they
take a different view on this subject or that, is a great folly.
Desist, I implore you, for we are all equally human. . . .
Let us have but one end in view: the welfare of humanity.

Dire weather predictions for tonight. Storms with threat of tornadoes. Hope we get lucky once again.
I spent a couple of hours at the Toyota dealership yesterday and got my car serviced and the starting battery replaced. My Prius is a 2014, purchased at the end of 2014. I had gone to Toyota to have my Camry serviced and spotted the Prius on the floor with a good offer including zero per cent financing. Called dh and asked him to come to the dealership and look at the Prius because I wanted to buy it. Have never been sorry. I love the car and miss it during our 4 summer months in MN. DH always takes it when I'm not planning to go somewhere. The parking is so much easier than his Toyota Tundra truck.
Wishing everyone a good Tuesday.

Carole, I sure hope those tornadoes miss you as well. We are due for some rugged weather as well. It is beautiful (if cold) this morning with the sun out bright, but we will have rain/snow tonight and it will be somewhat lasting and turning into likely 4 inches minimum Wed. morning. It was predicted to be as much as 6 to ten ins. but now revised. Means I lost my ride to John Cochran for Wed. morning. I'll have to re-make that appt. It's okay though. It was mainly for an echogram and then consult with their Cardiologist as he is expert in implanted devices. Not completely keen on implanted things (often interferes with other medical tests) but I certainly will consider it.
I had no idea that Prius's actually had two batteries. Glad you were able to get it fixed w/o too much trouble and expense. I'm all for keeping cars as long as one can since they are quite expensive. I always wanted a Camry or Avalon but never made it. Now, being tall I find it so much easier to get into SUV's. I'd still love a sedan but don't feel like they will ever be a good fit for me.
Thinking of you Petite.

Jackie, I agree with taco, I love the quote you wrote yesterday (1/23)
Carole, I too hope you avoided tornados. I have a huge fear of tornados! I only came close to one once, in 1978 at my DH's parent's farm in MI. We weren't yet married, I woke in the night, could see the storms coming from quite a distance as I was in a corner bedroom and the bed faced the windows. I didn't want my soon-to-be MIL and FIL to know how frightened I was of tornados, and thunderstorms in general, so I laid in bed clutching the covers. Suddenly my DH opened the bedroom door and grabbed me and we ran to the basement right behind his parents. The tornado "hopped" over the barn and house, but picked up the hay wagon and tossed it in the corn fields across the street. It really does sound like a freight train!
I am slowly getting my "ducks in a row" for retirement. I scheduled my meeting with the state retirement system. I will be very glad when all the financial plans are finalized. All the paperwork should be completed and submitted by my retirement date. Then I can focus on getting some things I want done prior to my surgery the following month.
One thing I want to do is buy a "tall" toilet and get it installed in the downstairs master bathroom prior to surgery. So much easier on the knees! I also want to make and freeze some meals so for at least the first week or two post-surgery, my DH can prepare the meals. We will probably do take out at least one night a week as well.
Sandy, even though I don't live near you, I too am interested in hearing about Keywestfan's restaurant experience. I have never had Peking Duck. I always thought duck was a bit too greasy. Maybe not?

Petite - glad to hear DH Celebration of Life was wonderful. Sending you a virtual hug.

Count me in with being happy about your Life Celebration petite. I hope that you get a little more strength and resolve each day. Learning process and it is a big help when it goes well.
We got the rain last night and woke up this morning to that predicted snow on the ground. Not nearly so bad here as originally predicted. In fact, while some stayed, the snow was so wet, much of it melted on its own. I think there was some actual rain mixed in the snow as it just couldn't seem to hang on long enough to get deeper. I do worry now it's late. There will/could be icy patches here and there, and my kids will be coming home from work late.
Anyway, we didn't get the news all the way on before we lost tv service. Sigh !!!!! Seems the brand-new router (just over a week old) gave up the ghost. So not knowing for sure we had to wait for the technician to get here this afternoon. All day w/o t.v. and no Internet either. I had Solitaire to keep me company.
The price is right for me so I do not necessarily want to get rid of Charter, although I no longer use their t.v. (just the wi-fi Hulu and Netwitz) Irritating though that they refurbish a lot of their equipment and re-box it in new packaging. That is what allows a week-old router to blow up. Likely have done it for years, but it is only the last two or three when we seem to get the real 're-furbished lemons' more_. Hope we will be okay for now. Each time we have to go through the house and re-set the tv's. and computers. Did it early this time and not waiting till bedtime. Just hope they all hold.
I changed my appt. at John Cochran to Feb 1st. Checking long range forecast and we could have sone "weather" then too, but I'll wait to see for sure.
Hope you all had a good day.

Petite, you are doing the right things to get through this.
Jackie, we are getting light snow the next three days-- off and on, then back into the deep freeze, which we hadn't experienced for more than a month. Decided to not get my bike fixed until after the deep freeze is almost over. Or maybe my friends decided for me.
My next door neighbor is having some kind of gathering. Tippy has been barky all evening.

Nature made us individuals, as she did the flowers and the pebbles; but we are afraid to be peculiar, and so our society resembles a bag of marbles, or a string of mold candles. Why should we all dress after the same fashion? The frost never paints my windows twice alike.

Thank you. Jackie. Very good choice for me now.
Baking some peanut butter bread. I tweaked the recipe many ways, don't often do that the first time. Hope it turns out good.
Had a pile of dishes, made butternut squash soup last night. Also ground some coffee.

Dentists, I often try to avoid since I had a couple of teeth pulled w/o any numbing at all. I know that is wrong but it still remains difficult to fight the memory of those experiences. I think Savannah could help me over that hump, but it would still be difficult and nerve wracking. I did use a dentist for some time (he may be retired now) who use to put a cloth over the eyes while working. Not sure, maybe it was hard for him to see the terror in people's eyes while he worked. Who knows, but surprisingly though it felt really strange at first, I was able to relax a lot more during extraction.
The Peanut butter bread sounds delicious. I hope it turns out Mary. I usually made recipes as listed first and then venture off once I know what it 'normally' tastes like. Some foods I like so well it almost doesn't matter what I do as long as it is not real extreme. Like tuna fish. I put in chopped eggs, gr. onions, apples, grapes, celery and mayo. I drop it on lettuce leaves or on lt. rye bread.
Surprising how much snow we don't have but of course, I'm glad. The sun is out so puddles alongside the house as the snow on our roof melts off. Despite a very bright sun it is fairly cool outside. I have some left-over chili so will make a little spaghetti for supper to put the chili on with some cheese, or macaroni and have chili-mac. We love both so it won't matter and even better it won't be hard.

Sandy, must have been a bad week for DJ's as Philadelphia lost a legendary DJ, Jerry Blavat, this past week. He was big in the 60's, aka "the Geator with the Heater" and "The Boss with the Hot Sauce." I can remember listening to him for hours on my transistor radio!
Cindy, it's awesome that you won such a wonderful trip! Savannah is beautiful and full of history.
Petite, thinking of you!
illinoislady, I am wondering about this no-snow winter where I live too! I am super happy about it as I hate driving in bad weather. The roads are cleared quickly around here, so when I once I am retired, I can afford to wait it out a bit longer. I am just concerned it will snow on one of the days I MUST travel, namely my big retirement state meeting in February and my surgery day in March. But, it is what it is, so if it snows those days, I will have to go to plan B. I also like the warmer weather because less money on heat!

Sending hugs, Petite. May your memories give you comfort. I agree that not all grief groups are alike but also that you may not be ready yet. When my mother died, her Hospice called me once month and then once a quarter to see if that would be something I wanted to explore but I didn't. A workbook? Not sure that would be a fit for me either.
My "starting chemo Feb. 2017" still has a private Facebook group so I hope everyone will check in. I started the link this morning. Not surprising, I'm the oldest in the group.
A shout out for Total Wines. They pick a local charity each time they open a store and give it 10% of wine sales opening weekend. My food bank is the recipient of their newest store. Showed me that our website does work as that's how they found us. I appreciate that it's a tax break for them, but I still think it's a nice gesture. I'm counting on them for a few nice baskets for our fall fundraiser too.
Colder here than it's supposed to be but we really needed the rain here and snow farther north that we've gotten. Just glad I bought new long johns this fall as I have really needed them for golf.
I second the raised toilet. The lower one is a stress with my bad knees. I don't think I could do squats if you paid me. I quit going to stretch and relax because I couldn't get myself off the floor without assistance. Not my weight - just the creaky knees. On the other hand, MO about fell over when she got my DEX scan results - bones like a 30 year old she said.
I also really like my walk in tub with whirlpool jets.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Happy Saturday. The sun is out (sounded like it might not be) but it is a prelude to the next rain. So, there is also a lot of wind which will help blow up the rain. Sigh !!! Then again, we had a better time of it the last round. I can't see ANY snow anywhere. Hoping that it stays decent for the appt. I made in the city for Feb1st. More snow expected. Willl have to check as we get closer. Always iffy this time of yr. In yrs. past Feb. has often been good to us with a couple days to 70 degrees but it is the exception at those times. We haven't had it for some time though.
Glad to hear your new Hoover cleaner is doing its job well , Carole. As with everything, carpet cleaning prices tend to go up while decent results often go the other way. Yrs. ago when I did have carpet it always seemed some area somewhere didn't quite clean all the way up. Once we ended up 'saving' more kitties we went to all bare flooring and have kept it up. I became glad when I saw the amt. of everyday dust and dirt that enters the house. We have a bank of quite tall windows on the East side -- and the morning sun shining thru the windows easily reveals the dust particles that have collected on the floor in just a few overnight hours. No wonder our carpet (even freshly new) often seemed to not have the rich color it had when first installed. I have no regrets. Always thinking one of these days to get some larger area carpets, but they would have to be wool which clean so much easier. So far, I've been too lazy and not willing to allocate saving for them.
Hope you all have a marvelus Saturday.

Scrubbed the kitchen floor and went over it with a clean dry mop so I can do other stuff, like clean the microwave. Tippy is waiting for his walker. But he still loves me. I came over to the 'puter and he came over to sit by me. BTW, I tweaked that recipe too much. I will be a good girl next time.
Otherwise working on genealogy, revealing cousins who might profit from my work, while at the same time maybe gathering new insights. Have not been able to break the logjam in Ireland-- as frightful as things were (reading Irish Famine series by Charles Egan and following this author, offering proof that it happened The Truth Behind The Irish Famine 1845 – 1852 – Jerry Mulvihill – Author ). I don't think orphan half-sisters would cross the Atlantic willingly, alone. And, equally, I don't think I am going to have much luck. Although I sent a message to Mr. Mulvihill right now.

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature--the assurance. that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.

Remembering a business trip I took to Pensacola FL nine years ago. My colleague and I were staying on Pensacola Beach and preparing for training staff on Monday. Got a call to pack up Monday evening and move to a hotel off the beach as a winter ice storm was predicted. Pensacola was hit with a once in a generation ice storm. Our offices in Pensacola were closed the next two days due to ice and our flight was cancelled. At least the Waffle House next to the hotel was open. A nice couple from Quebec lent us their ice scraper so we could clean off the ice on the rental car.
Have you considered individual therapy sessions Petite? Maybe that would be a better fit for you to start. I hope you find something that brings you comfort.
Mavericksmom - so many decisions to make when retiring. I remember savings bonds when I first started working. Such a simpler financial decision at the time.
Have a wonderful day.

I second the individual counseling. It can be a bridge to group.

Good suggestions petite. I didn't have any suggestions but think one on one could be a great solution -- great bridge to finding your way forward.
Today has been cloudy and chilly all day. There was some rain last night and wee bit this morning. We await rain, sleet, and likely some mixed in snow any time now we have reached the 5 p.m. hour. Tomorrow's outlook seems to be more of the same. I will be holding my breath about Wednesday.
Hope you all had a good Sunday.

It's foggy out and, I'm sure, very humid. We had heavy rain yesterday and it rained off and on all day.
We're meeting another couple for lunch today at one of the few restaurants open on Monday. They lived a few miles aways about 9 years ago when he worked for Entergy. They moved to Little Rock and then to Wisconsin when he retired. Now they have a home on a lake and seem happy with their location. I don't know why they decided to make a trip here to the north shore in January because they must have known what our weather is like, having lived here.
I'm feeling some cabin fever, having been indoors for three days. DH just went to the gym. I should go this afternoon and do some exercise. If nothing else, I'll go and walk around some nearby stores.
We watched the two football games. The first one was too one sided for anyone except Eagle fans to enjoy. The second one was close. We like both teams but were slightly in favor of the Bengals because of the quarterback, who played for LSU. I expect the Eagles to win the Super Bowl, probably fairly easily. We'll see how good a commentator I am! LOL.

Yikes on your temperatures! I think we hit 85 or 86 today.
I went to the chiropractor this morning. My back needed adjusting, and felt better as I left. Then I was home to eat and then off to the dentist to see what the plan is for the empty spot the extraction will leave. I was hoping for permanent retainer, like braces on the back of the teeth, with a floating tooth in that spot. The tech said she’s never heard of it, maybe I should patent it. Haha. What they’re giving me is Invisalign- like the clear teeth straightening device, or what my grand niece had after her regular braces were taken off as a retainer. But it will have a tooth(?) in the space where I’ll have had the extraction. Temporary solution. Bottom line after a year being off fosamax I believe the oral surgeon will remove 3 more teeth (so all 4 front bottom teeth) and the permanent solution is a bridge. I keep reminding myself it could be worse, it’s not breast cancer

cindyny - Interesting solution to the single tooth issue. Rather than getting an implant, my dentist's solution was a single tooth bridge that clips onto the teeth on either side of the "space". I just pop it in and out for cleaning and at bedtime - stays very secure. The Key to Your Heart drink sounded declicious!
Petite - Please allow yourself lots of "grace" in dealing with your grief, in whatever way and timing works for you. Cyber hugs.
mavericksmom - I hope the Eagles win the Super Bowl and trounce Kansas City.
carolehalston - Nice to hear you were "for" the Bengals. I live in the greater Cincinnati area, so of course they are "my team". QB Joe Burrow, whose hometown is Athens, Ohio which is also the home of my alma mater Ohio University, makes it even more "my team."

Why does it seem like if it isn't one thing it's another? Just when I was feeling less stress over retirement forms, my DD texts me that her mammogram showed asymmetry and she needs to go back for more views. Both my DD and I know that it is most likely nothing, but she can't help being worried. How could she not worry? I had breast cancer three times within 20 years, my two sisters had breast cancer, one of whom had non-hodgekins lymphoma at the same time and died of a third cancer, and my mother had breast cancer!
I hoped she could schedule the appointment today, but no, the hospital needed her to get another script from her gynecologist and central scheduling wouldn't schedule it. They told her the women's center will call her and schedule it. Sounds harmless to do it that way, if you take fear and worry out of the equation. What part of "most women fear mammogram results", don't they get??? Especially those women with a prior Dx of breast cancer or those at high risk! I am annoyed that they didn't look at the films first and do the extra views right then and there. That is how they have done it for me! Does that only apply to those who had a prior Dx??? I told her they wouldn't let her walk out the door without doing more views or scheduling a biopsy if they saw something suspicious. I was wrong! Again, that is the way it was done for me in the past, even last summer when I was diagnosed for the third time! I went in for my regular mammogram screening, they saw something suspicious, did more views and then the radiologist told me I needed a biopsy. They wouldn't let me leave, even though I had another appointment (non-medical) on the other side of town, that I was going to be late for! Maybe it depends on who the radiologist is that day????
Sorry to vent, but while I know she most likely doesn't have cancer, she is a grown woman with a husband and two young children, and it tears me up to see her so worried! I really hope they call and schedule her soon! Call backs should be easy to add into schedules! I still swear veterinary offices are run more efficiently than human hospitals/doctor offices!!!!

Maverick - so sorry to hear that your daughter is going through this. Wishes for B9
0 -
Yes, Cindy. My father had a replacement tooth permanently attached to one next to it.
It is -12, and was -17. I have three pee pads at various places in my apartment. I am hoping to be able to keep him inside for most of the day. My knee is going downhill fast. I need to nuke both rice bags at bedtime. I'll grab them and put them in the kitchen so I can remember instead of after I have gone to bed.
Been busy with genealogy. My cousin sent me some letters and an obituary with lots of questions. Her brother seems to do only the male line. What she sent me helped me with fact-checking as well. Texted her back, and put the valuable scraps of paper in the mail.
Maverick, with such a BC-heavy family history, they should be more proactive. Perhaps she should call administration with a complaint.

Maverick, more wishes for benign outcome.
Cindy, hoping for a good outcome for you as well.
New stove being delivered during the am but no anticipation. DH seems to be developing another UTI. He didn't feel good and ran a fever yesterday. This would be three UTI's in two months. And he's scheduled for a UROLIFT on Thursday which could help the bladder to empty. I'm not liking 2023 at all.

Within sorrow is grace. When we come close to those things that
break us down, we touch those things that also break us open.
And in that breaking open, we uncover our true nature.

Maverick, I favor Mary's suggestions on mamo's for those who are un-diagnosed. Anyone who has a busy history should be able to expect anything suspicious to be checked asap and as thoroughly as possibly right then and there. Hoping for B-9 just as the others.
Cindy, hope you arrive at your dental needs in satisfactory ways.
Carole sorry to hear that your Dh may/could have more UTI upsets on the way. I've never heard of a UROLIFT but hopefully it is something that will greatly enhance wellness from UTI's. I don't know if Tamsulosin is given, but it is a medication that helps the bladder relax so you can empty better. Hope he soon gets whatever is needed to get him over this hump. UTI's are very unpleasant to put up with and I feel for anyone who deals with them.
Cold here again today. Roads still have slick spots and the yard and driveway still have the sleet pebbles all over. BIL hasn't tried to cancel the trip to St. Louis, Mo. tomorrow for my visit with the Cardiologist there so will have to cook extra for Weds. even though we should be home fairly early since the appts. are early.
Hope you all have a good day.

mavericksmom - sorry your DD couldn't get a 2nd appointment scheduled without a new request from her doctor. That just sounds like some insurance or doctor bureaucracy BS. I hope she's able to get her next appointment quickly. Sorry your knee is giving you issues Mary. Any thing to do for temporary relief other than ice? Hope you find a suitable solution for your tooth Cindy. Carole - sorry to hear DH is have continuing UTI issues. I hope he's able to get some relief. Hope the roads clear and you're able to make your cardiologist appointment Illinois. Best of luck tomorrow. Feeling sad today as it's the 26th anniversary of my Mom's passing. My DD is sending me pictures of my GD so that's helping me through the day. Enjoy the rest of the day.
