My MGUS was discovered when the endocrinologist wanted to see what (besides age, heredity, 6+ years on letrozole, and 4 years since my last biennial Prolia shot) could be the cause of my osteoporosis. She was able to rule out bone mets and celiac disease, so the MGUS was an "incidental" finding on the celiac radioimmunoassay panel;. The heme/onc says my MGUS is "extremely slight," but will monitor me quarterly. If no change a year from now, we'll go to semi-annually.
Bob says he'll see how he likes the guest room (which has a twin innerspring mattress) instead of our king Tempur-Pedic. He shakes our bed because his legs hang off the edge--not so much because he's tall but because he likes to slide down below the pillows (with the pillows between him & the headboard) rather than rest his head on them. So when he kicks (he sometimes has RLS), the whole bed moves and I keep waking up even when he doesn't snore. We might upgrade our 21-yr-old Tempur-Pedic (on a split-king box spring atop a generic bolt-together wheeled steel frame) to a split-king on a solid powered base.

Have a heavy heart this morning. Nothing personal for me - just the state of the anger, hate and chaos in the US. Yesterday morning started with the Colorado School of Mines being on lock down due to a shooter. Shooter killed a K9 officer. In the afternoon, 2 shootings, one at one of my local high schools in my district and minutes later one by the admin bldg. In the one at the high school a 16 year old student was shot multiple times in his car by someone(s) in another car and is in very serious condition. Three shootings in 8 hours or so. Then last night a mass shooting at MSU in East Lansing. It's beginning to feel no where is safe anymore.
All went well first day at the new assignment. It will be a busy but good end to the school year - I'm there the rest of the year.
Hope Tuesday is a good day for everyone.

Jackie, I assume your test went well yesterday but you need to wait for results???? Wishing you well with your PCP visit today.
Sandy, I am so sorry to hear about Happy and Bob. I can't say I blame him, although I always wear slippers, can't stand to be barefoot! One thing to keep in mind. It can be hard to detect pain in cats as the nature of their species causes them to hide pain at all cost! I am not sure Happy is without pain or discomfort. My degree was in Veterinary Medicine. I was a technician for 10 years, 3 in veterinary practices and 7 in agriculture research. I totally understand your desire to keep him as long as possible, I would do the same, but if you haven't had that dreaded conversation with your veterinarian, then maybe you should, but included in that conversation is how to tell if he is in pain. I am NOT saying put him down now, but conversation to help you when the time comes. I had a smooth fox terrier, who was a show dog and received her championship. She was also my "fur baby." I loved that dog so much. I refused to have her put down when her kidneys began to fail. On my children's first day of school in the fall, (they were in 1st and 3rd grade at the time) I got up as normal and let her out of her crate. She seemed to act better than she had in a long time. I was overjoyed. I opened the sliding glass doors, and she went out, stumbled and then went into convulsions! I started screaming and crying as she died in my arms. Of course, this woke my kids and now I have a horrific memory I will never forget. When my dear sweet lab who had multiple cancers over time, was in decline, I knew I couldn't go through a "horrible death" again. When I finally took him to be the vet for the last time, it was peaceful, my vet put in a catheter and we were able to sit with him as long as we wanted, and we were with him in in last moments. It was heart breaking too, but I knew I didn't make him suffer because I didn't want to let go. I really wish there was an easy way to part with our fur babies, but there isn't. No one else can make the decision. If he is not in pain and you can keep caring for him, then why not? But if there is doubt about his pain level, it may be time. I am definitely cyber hugging you right now!!! I can't imagine a world without fur babies!!!!!
Ok, I now made myself sufficiently sad, so I am closing here. At least the sun is out and it looks to be a good day!

Karen, I missed your post until after mine loaded. I too am sad about the same! My DH is an alum of MSU. The craziness is horrible! Just like cancer, we will all know someone or be a victim ourselves, of gun violence! Thankfully, I still believe with my whole heart that most people are kind and good! Hopefully some practical and much needed legislation will pass to lessen the violence.

Count me in as someone very concerned about the gun culture in the US. The mass killings are so common that the majority don't get reported in national news. On one side of the issue are those who think the more guns the safer they are and on the other side are those who don't wish to live in the OK Corral. Everything hinges on the reading of the 2nd amendment. That's all I will say on the subject since it's political.
On a more cheerful subject, the azaleas are popping out with blooms. I think spring is about to happen.
Sandy, dh and I had that norovirus (sp?) some years ago. It was awful. We caught it at the nursing home where my mother was living. Thankfully, it didn't last long. At the risk of being graphic, we had to sit on the toilet with a bucket handy for throwing up. I heard on the NOLA news this morning that the virus is circulating. Crowded parade routes are great for sharing viruses as well as for catching throws.
Hope all the tests comes back with good results. Same with procedures.

Today is the 5th anniversary of the Parkland school shooting. I often wonder if some of these other mass shooting occur on the same day as a sick reminder or just a coincidence. Very sad.
I hope your tests today went well Jackie. How are you feeling Cindy? Hope you’re feeling well Mary.
Sorry Happy is still having gut issues Sandy.
Had a sound bath today performed by my usual REIKI practitioner. It was a delightful experience. Hope everyone is having a nice day.

Get rid of the boot after the week-end, but Podiatrist suggested going for walks first with the boot - that I can try. I'll be so happy to wear two shoes! Thursday will be 5 weeks in the boot so almost 5.5 weeks when I get rid of it and hope all is good with two shoes and walking. He said tennis shoes, so I asked how long, so he asked me to take off my boot and said they were "stiff" enough. I live in my Blundstones in the winter so I was thrilled. No bare feet, flip flops etc.
3-7" snow predicted for Denver with 18F before windchill - parts of the city are getting snow and it will be a messy morning commute - and by dinner time the snow will be done.
Everyone stay warm

Yay for discarding the boot, Karen! It did its thing and now you can get back to shoes.
I got down on the floor (carpet) yesterday and did some exercises for lower back. They didn't cause me any pain while I was doing them. It's more lower back soreness and discomfort than pain. I mentioned to a friend that I would like to get some x-rays of my back and she told me that I would probably have to go to a pain management dr. The bone and joint doctors don't deal with backs.
My diagnosis is that I need a new chair with back support and I probably sit too much.
My appointment to get my car detailed here at my house is 9:30. Which means I'll have to be dressed and "presentable" by then. I also have to empty my car of shopping bags and the bag with my workout equipment I take to exercise classes. During Covid I bought my own weights and band and stopped using the gym equipment.
My laptop tells me it's 65 degrees and Cloudy. I can see the cloudy and the weather man said it's muggy outside.
Happy Wednesday.

Karen, yes, sooo great that you can ditch the boot and wear two shoes!
Carole, glad to hear you are able to do some lower back exercises on the floor! I am so impressed as I have no problem getting down on the floor, but getting up is HARD!!!! I actually want to strengthen my muscles after I recover from surgery, so I CAN get up off the floor without feeling like I need to use every ounce of energy I have to get up!
Jackie, I am concerned about you. I hope your test and doctor appointment went well. Maybe I missed your post????
Sandy, hope today was a better day with Happy!
My pre-surgery appointment went very well and I am ready for it to be over! I have another two weeks, but I will feel better when it is over and done with! My surgeon is awesome. I spoke with representative from Medicare and they would not say my lymphedema mapping will be covered, but only that they have covered the procedure before. My insurance, a Medicare Advantage plan from the company my DH retired from, said it would be covered, but I always worry that something will be denied.
We are having spring weather, sunny and 65 degrees!

So sorry I didn't post something yesterday when I got home. Just wow!!!! Not to worry though. The appt. and subsequent readings were odd but fine. Dr. Neely (after collating all the test results from herself and other Dr.'s) says that the "funny" but troubling kidney numbers are really medication quirks. She just wanted to run all tests to be certain. I don't mind admitting now (though I was in a bit of denial beforehand) that I was really concerned seeing as how I only have one kidney. All good and she sent me away quite happy. I still have to see Dr. Panda -- the other Cardiologist at John Cochran in St. Louis in March to talk to him about implants.
I did not come back yesterday because the weather turned bad while I was seeing the Dr. and coming home was wild. Wind gusts and rain -- at least 45 mph and I had to hold on tight to the steering wheel just to stay in my lane. It it a 22 mile trip home and I was exhausted. We needed to eat and I had to clean up the kitchen, so I made the coffee for today, got into my pj's and just plopped down in the recliner.
Speaking of recliners -- they are bad for backs I'm told, but like so many people -- I'm heavily addicted to mine. I'm sure some are 'better' than others, but things have not been so bad for me that I've ever researched to find out. I know I'm not doing the exercise I should and I'm hoping the warmer weather we are having will choose to be less sporadic soon and maybe, I'll get some walking down outside.
Karen -- like being let out of jail to get to wear shoes on both feet. I recall getting to drive after my broken arm was nearly healed. I felt like I won the lottery.
Glad the pre-surgery went fine Maverick. Hoping you are just as satisfied after the surgery and recovery.
Hope you all have had sun and a good day.

Jackie, so glad to read your post! My mother only had one kidney; I totally understand where you are coming from! Sorry to hear about the weather, I can imagine that when you arrived home all you wanted to do was unwind and relax! I think I am just spoiled by your daily posts! I always look forward to them! As for recliners, ours are great! I wouldn't trade our recliners for a regular chair. After my surgery, I will sleep in the recliner for a while! I guess like any furniture, it just depends on the individual piece.
I wanted to get a new toilet installed prior to my surgery, but I was feeling overwhelmed with things to do prior to surgery so I put that one on hold. We are selling our old car, It's a 2001 mini van and it sure doesn't owe us anything. While I hate to see it go, it just doesn't make sense to have two cars now that I am retired. I have a Subaru that only has about 25,000 miles on it. Selling the car is harder on my husband, as that is the car he drove. It's kind of emotional for me too, as there are a lot of good memories tied to that car! Family vacations, taking the kids to college, driving my daughter, her bride's maids, maid of honor and future MIL and SIL to get our hair done before her wedding......almost 15 years ago, but oh the memories. I get WAY too attached to inadimate objects! I wish I didn't!
We are also meeting with our accountant on Friday to file our taxes. I want that done and out of the way prior to surgery. I also have a lot of cleaning I want to get done. Things kind of piled up between work and my surgery last fall. The lifting restrictions are not a good fit for house cleaning! Sandy, you are lucky to have a HK! I hope things are going well for your HK, dealing with her DH must be very difficult!
Woke up before the sun, not even sure if the sun will make an appearance today or not. Wishing everyone here a good day!

Well, now. It rained during the night and will rain during the day here likely at some point. Even if not, it looks to be a very gray day and I don't do gray at all well. Despite its being so warm (in the 60's) the past couple of days, we could actually have some snow showers tonight. Nothing long lasting though so just a little bump to remind us Spring isn't quite here, even if very close. Nothing special today. One more bill to pay and I can relax for a while again.
I am grateful for the health I have even though I'm still working on acceptance of the heart disease. Grrrr, the salt restriction keeps reminding me. One nice off-shoot, (well it seems nice) was that Dr. Neely gave me permission to have my old lady naps. I must say, for the fact that we talk very seriously about my health issues she is always able to turn things into looking for the bright spots and keeping my focus there when possible. Consequently, we do laugh and find enjoyable merriment in our 'sessions'. She has no idea how much good it does me. I normally have a strong tendency to look on the brighter side, but the past two or three years I have had seemingly one thing after the other -- and once in a while it starts to give me a weighted down sensation. Something for me to keep working on.
I'm all for getting things arranged so as to make your after-surgery time smooth and as stress-free as possible Maverick. I well recall my coming home from the heart surgery and having to be more of a non-participator for a month or two. How things got away in that time. So, the more prep beforehand, the more you can relax into having your healing be front and center in your home. Getting the surgery done also seems a great way to start your retirement. Nothing to hold you back from the fun and challenge of learning to structure life with no employment strings attached. At first it is amazing that you have ALL this TIME, but soon enough you realize that it takes real discipline to structure how you will get things done when you can do them any time you want. Some real adventures will begin for you.
I hope you all have a good day and decent weather.

Jackie, glad you had good news from your procedures. Sandy, hoping your back & Happy are ok. Maverick, you're all prepared for surgery. Karen, wo hoo boot off!
Tooth - a stitch came out yesterday while at a restaurant with friends in Naples on 5th Ave. We were having drinks after our order had been placed when I could feel something in my mouth. It was the knot of the stitch. This morning still in bed I felt the other one with my tongue, and next you know it's on my tongue- the 2nd knot. So I am on track with healing, but still need the extraction hole to heal and fill in.
We've been having great weather, maybe windy over the weekend. Not a lot of things going on. We are using up a lot of time reading on Ireland and bookings. Airfare bought, hotel at beginning and end booked; 2 Airbnbs booked for about a week. We were comparing car rentals and still going over a lot of information. We bought a Rick Steves book which is very helpful. We leave June 6 and return on June 26. Still need 9 more days lodging booked.
On top of that, I think I've mentioned my partner won a trip to Savannah for St. Patrick's day. AAA no longer gives out guide books. So we're online reading and printing out parts we want. The woman at AAA desk said you just download it to your phone. Well, I like having a book to read! If it's on my phone it would drive me nuts. A sure sign I'm old.
Have a great evening &night ladies!

Wow - did I get behind. Good news Jackie. Happy retirement MM. And better health to those who are suffering.
I've had a couple busy weeks. Extra work for the food bank. We're doing strategic planning the end of March and as chair of the board, I have had to in on all the planning meetings. Also extra food drives which really aren't my thing.
Superball with BFF's. We played football bingo which kept everyone engaged. Kind of fun. Monday nite dinner with BFF's son and friend who had come win the all the excitement. Valentine's Dinner at our CC with 3 other couples and my sister arrived yesterday. She and Ken are watching the Suns game. She's doing the Sudoko and he the crossword puzzle.
I know we are taking a chance with a cruise but we are ready to do it. Other than an overnight in Nassau, we will be in the states which makes me more comfortable than truing to find health care from someone who I can't communicate with. Ken did get a positive report from his cardiologist which both pleased and surprised us.
I still have things on my list of "what I was going to do during Covid" but I've discovered lots of new ancestors!

Karen - glad you got the boot off.Hope you’re able to resume normal activities.
Carole - I hope the lower back exercises help. I should do them daily, but find myself doing them when my back starts to act up.
MM - Glad you’re getting close to your surgery. I found exchange recovery to be much easier the 2nd time around. Maybe because I knew what to expect. So many memories in your min-van.
Jackie - Glad your testing went well. Sounds like you have good doctors who are very thorough. Hope the bad weather has passed.
Cindy - soumds like your tooth is healing. Hope the trend continues. You mentioned AAA guide books. Remember triptiks?
Taco - what is superball?
Hope everyone is doing well. We’ve been having rainy warm weather. Very gray and dark outside. Today is my DS 40th birthday. FaceTime with him earlier this morning. He’s working but will be be celebrating with friends this weekend. We’re babysitting GD tomorrow. Need a refresher on how to change diapers. Should be fun/scary. Have a safe and healthy day.

Had a good PT appointment yesterday. He massaged some muscle fibers that were tight. Only one new exercise, and a suggestion to go to the gym for some aerobic bike work.
I have some important things to do today, but for now I will read and watch TV. I am beginning a "Death in Paradise" binge. Have already knocked out three seasons out of twelve, so I have a way to go. Have some books to read. One a four-book series by Jean Grainger, WWII setting in Ireland with Jewish child refugees.
Then a video appt with insurance nurse, a trip to a friend's bank to get quarters for the piggish washer and dryer next door, and a trip to the grocery store for prescriptions. I have decided what to make for my next big batch soup. I am getting several orders delivered, one has already, dust-catchers for the top of fan blades. A friend told me about that. I WILL get those headaches tamed. Leaving right now for 25c rolls.

Jackie, I try not to overdue with salt, but heart diets have stricter guidelines. Ugh. I thought of you today as my DH and I went to have our taxes done. It was raining hard and so windy. Hard to see the roads, let alone the massive puddles! Thankfully it stopped for a while so we had no rain or wind on the way home. Now, it is starting back up again.
I bought a book, Lymphedema and Lipedema Nutrition Guide, by Chuck Ehrlich and six others. I just glanced at it and read the introduction, but I am enthusiastic about it. A bit stricter than the Mediterranean Diet. I don't know that I will ever follow it exactly, but I certainly will incorporate many of the suggested foods. The book is big on organic, and I am not knocking organic foods, but there are so many chemicals in our bodies from our environment that I don't think going totally organic is worth it. I will be happy to just add better foods to my diet for now. Maybe someday I will incorporate more organic foods.
I am having both arms mapped when I have my exchange surgery. I now have lymphedema in both arms. My plastic surgeon is a lymphedema specialist and I will likely have him perform surgery on my left arm at some point. Right now I am thankful that next year I can have PT on my arms and then wear garments again. I need custom made garments and Medicare wouldn't pay for any of it. That changed when Congress passed the Lymphedema Treatment Act in Dec, but it won't be until 2024 that it takes effect.
Mary, so happy to hear you had a good PT appointment! You have a very positive attitude which definitely makes for the best possible outcome.
Cardplayer, don't worry, you will quickly remember how to change diapers! Of course, a lot depends on how wiggly your GD is! LOL I think it is wonderful that you will get to watch her tomorrow! I think I remember "triptiks!" Weren't they small maps with highlighted route and you just flipped the page as you reached the end of one map?
Cindy, oh how wonderful to be planning your trips! Ireland sound so nice! The only places I have any interest in visiting outside of the US is Ireland and Italy. My DS and BIL have a condo in Naples. They stay there from Thanksgiving to sometime mid to late March. Now that I am retired, my husband and I may go down there to visit. They love it there!
Sandy, thoughts of you, hoping your back is not continuing to cause you pain, and that Happy has had more good days!

Over the years I have come to believe that life is
full of unchosen circumstances, that being human
has to do with the evolution of our individual
consciousness and with it, responsibilities for choice.
Pain and joy both come with life.I believe that how
we respond to what happens to us and around us shapes
who we become and has to do with the psyche or the soul's growth.

Hi, ladies. Just checking in to see what all is going on. My BFF and I are going to a concert Sunday. I am looking forward to it.
Maverick, My SIL has terrible lower extremity Lymphedema. I would like more information to pass on to her. If you get a chance PM me with more information. Thanks

We have a really nice sun outside which sure peps up my attitude and I'm always grateful. We are going to have nice temps. most of the time as well. Some rain in a few days likely. We are working towards one of the nicest times of the yr. for me. Spring is more like New Year's to me with all the new beginnings from what always feels like a much too long winter. So nice but some wind and rain.
Nothing special today. The kids have been working hard and they are staying in their quarters being rather quiet. I have left over spaghetti from last night so not much cooking today either.
Glad you have a concert coming up petite. Music is always tends I think to lift the spirit. You can get a little lost in a nice way in it.
Hope the sun is turned up and on for everyone who wants it today.

I'm leaving in 3 weeks for a cruise to the eastern Caribbean: Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, St Maarten, St. Kitts with Celebrity. It's the same birding group I went with a couple years ago, Carefree Birding. Based on the possible bird list they gave us, I could get 35 new birds. My roommate lived in Fargo 20 years ago, now lives in Maryland. She was back in Fargo this summer and we reconnected. She retired recently and is excited about going on her first cruise. This weekend I'm going through my clothes and ordering more slacks and long sleeved shirts that are insect and tick repellent for about 70 washings. I've had good luck with the ones I have, they're just fitting a little snugger these days!
0 -
Jackie, I agree, the day does seem so much better when the sun is shinning!
Puffin, sounds like an amazing cruise! Enjoy! My DH and I always enjoy birdwatching! Don't forget to post pictures of some of the feathered friends you see on your trip!
Petite, I will definitely PM you this weekend, but I can't do it right now. Lymphedema is difficult to deal with but I think lower extremity is more difficult than upper extremity, which is what I have.
We just sold my DH's car and while my first week of retirement was busy, it was also stressful. I actually accomplished a lot, pre-surgery appointment, taxes, and selling the car, researching dental plans, and a bunch of normal household chores. Feeling much less stress now, but have to get back to doing some housework. My DH's car was 22 years old but still in great working condition, however, my husband is a lot older than I am, he just turned 82, and his driving left a lot to be desired. I made the mistake of believing him that he knew where he was going to take the car. It turned out to be a fiasco and he finally pulled over an allowed me to lead the way. The actual sale went well.
Sunny here too, enjoy the weekend everyone!

MM - DH (who will be 80 in Sept.) has come to agree with me that he should only be allowed very local driving and on streets that the speed limit is under 35. He also carries an AirTag which has given me considerable piece of mind. My fear has been that he will fall or have a cardiac crisis and I won't know where he is. If I think he and the dog have been out too long I can find him. They walk a variety of ways and I can see what house he is in front of or if he is on one of our walking paths. I hope you are going to have some help immediate post-op. You have had a very full plate.
Puffin - Sounds like a great cruise and interesting bird watching. How many do you have on your life list now? Do you do the what my friends always called the "Christmas count" too? Ken did it one year here but the walking got too hard on his back. One year he dropped me off in Salt Lake City to do my geneology and he drove to Oregon for a bird watching trip and we hooked up and drove down Route 1 to LA.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. My sister leaves tomorrow and I will b sad to see her go.

Puffin, the cruise sounds great. Prior to buying FL house we vacationed in PR for over 10 years. Birding may take you into the El Yunque rainforest, beautiful area. Don Q rum tour w tasting is very near the cruise docks. They make a smooth rum, just saying.
Jackie, we’ve got a lot of flowers blooming right now and that makes my day. So I understand your need for some sun and the hopes of spring arriving. Petite, it’s nice you’re getting out for a concert. I hope you really enjoy it. Maverick, you’re accomplishing a lot.
It wasn’t too hot to take a bike ride after noon today, but some wind gusts made it feel like I was standing still. Temps were 79-80 so we went over to a nature trail nearby for a walk too. I got my exercise in today.
As the sun was going down the roofers team showed up to knock off a punch list on things here. After they left we could hear a loud vibration. We checked everything - refrigerator, AC unit, exhaust vents but couldn’t figure it out. As my partner went next door to our friend and handyman, I figured it out. The wall was vibrating and when I looked up I saw the doorbell chime. Ran to front door to check the doorbell. When roofers rang it, the button from years of 365 days of sun, cracked into the cover. It’s low voltage but it was humming! I grabbed screw drivers and took it apart. Put painters tape over exposed wires, of course 5+ rolls of electrical tape in NY and none here. Ordered a replacement from Amazon that should be here Monday.
We never got out to the Edison parade tonight but we are watching the outdoor hockey game on tv. Trade offs I suppose, at least we were here for the doorbell fiasco.

Such interesting posts today. Everyone sounds happy. The birding cruise sounds right up your alley, Puffin. Please do post some bird photos when you return home. One of the groups I follow on Facebook is people in Louisiana posting photos of birds in their yards.
Gee, Taco, I turn 80 in early March and I'm not ready to toss in my car keys! DH is 83 and he's still a good driver. Does all the city driving when we head north to MN in May and return to LA in October. Currently my Prius is clean inside and out after a car detailer came to my house on Wednesday. The detailer cautioned me against using the car wash places like the one nearby that DH uses. He said the soap is very harsh and will remove the wax after a couple of trips through the wash process.
Of course, his solution is for him to return every couple of months, which is NOT going to happen at the price he charges. He had two workers with him and I realize they all need to earn income but he has to rely on working folks, not two retired oldies. He offers a contract and was just coming from a house in a nearby subdivision on our street.
My checking account showed an increase this morning and, sure enough, our federal refund arrived just a couple of weeks after I filed our return electronically. Of course, the refund is our own money we paid in. It will help pay some upcoming expenses.
It's sunny and should warm up enough today for me to take a walk.
Happy Sunday to all.

Carole, thank you for writing about your DH and yourself! Makes me feel much better! My DH's brother is two years older than my DH and he still drives and does so very well! My brother turned 80 last summer and still drives up to PSU in the fall and drives in front of the away football team's band bus and guides them to where they need to go for football games. You would never guess he is 80. He still played two games of ice hockey well into his 70's. I actually think he may still play occasionally, granted all the players are older, but still, he is super active. Really, it isn't one's age as much as it is their ability to do things. Many are capable, but I do question whether or not my DH should still drive. My DS is a lot younger than my DH, but her driving is way worse!
taco, a similar thank you to you as well!
Cindy, that snake photo gave me the willies! hahaha Is that a boa constrictor? I am not a fan of snakes...or bugs, but I understand their purpose and how important they are in the environment. Sorry to hear about the doorbell issue! Scary! My DS and BIL winter in Naples, FL and were walking in a nature park last year, until they encountered a large animal, can't remember if it was a large gator or a bear, and they decided they would walk the other way!
Another sunny day and 53 degrees! I am a happy camper!
