Petite, you should get interest in addition to the original amount of overpayment.

Wren, that's a good suggestion. I do wear a tinted sunscreen and some eye makeup when I "dress up." I use a little mascara on a daily basis. The sunscreen is daily, too. So far I'm liking the silver gray and not getting color is a considerable savings of money and also time. I can always go back to color.

We lit the gas fireplace last night for the first time this fall/winter season. My laptop says it's 47 degrees outside. It's also sunny. I may venture out to some stores today.

The natural world teaches us the power of change.  As seasons shift, I see the purpose and beauty of life's cyclicality.  I see the promise of spring, the ripening of summer, the bounty of harvest and that mysterious containment of winter.  All seasons work for the good.  So it is, too, with the changing cycles of my life.  As I surrender to the wisdom of a higher plan, I discover in all circumstances the opportunity for growth and expansion.  There is no season in my life that is without worth.  There is no season in my life that does not unfold my highest good.  Challenged by difficult times, I consciously choose to affirm the goodness of life's timing.

Good morning. 40 so a bit chilly out. Doesn't sound like it will go down any and maybe up although summer is definitely over. Leaves still on the trees are very thin. It is not my favorite time of yr. but more for the fact that it is harder for anyone with a few yrs. on them to navigate in winter —walking or driving. I do (for the most part) like the seasons and really missed them the last few yrs. we lived in California.

Likely will be a lazy Saturday. Things to do but easier to not force a plan. Seems when I 'plan' it goes awry very easy and if I just 'let' it happen then the pressure to produce doesn't interfere as much. Hard to believe how fast the yr. is slipping by now.

Saying hi to all. I'm on the next page so have lost track of who posted what on last page. Wishing all well.

Finished closet decluttering and have a large leaf bag of tops to go to a donation center. Need to look for Battered woman one locally. However, found items I had sorted through and bagged but now they need to leave. Most are costume jewelry I had and no longer want. DD had separated out ones she wanted but they are still here, so she needs to take them. I have a small bin of ones for DGD and will give them to her most likely next week. Then I have a box of "leftovers" that I may give to DS for when they have their next yard sale. He might be able to make a few bucks for them.

Then went back to primary bedroom closet and sorted through some shoes so they will be the next declutter focus. I dusted these bins I have to keep my sneakers in where the shoes stand upright, ran the dust mop under the shelving units and found a pair of navy flat shoes that had been shoved underneath. They are keepers. The shelving units store sweaters, purses and sandals plus some other odds and ends. I expect this will be a challenging area because I will have to try items on and then decide to keep or donate so it will be one unit at a time and there are 2 of them. Now that winter clothing has been transferred to main closet, I can then determine what gets worn, what doesn't and plan on a decluttering at the end of the season. It will be easier this way since I have lots of jeans I need to go through as well. Seeing them means I have to wear them or donate if they don't fit.

It is a gray, cloudy day after 2 days of rain which was much welcomed. Some areas got appreciable amounts of snow, one area got 13 inches, but we only got the rain. It is barely 50 degrees and breezy.

petite1, good to hear from you.

Wasn't finished with post. petite1, when the IRS double billed me for my mother's income tax after her death, they caught it and sent back what I had paid plus a nice interest payment.

carole, if you have been a light blonde for most of the last years and now are silver gray, you may find that there is very little difference in your skin tones/ makeup. I was an ash blonde, fair skinned and now use the same makeup.

My MIL wore a black wig for the 40 plus years I knew her and had worn it for many years prior. My SIL is following in her mother's footsteps though she chose dark brown wigs instead of black and they are the ones whose make-up didn't go with the change in their skin tones. Both were olive skinned but became fairer over time. We tried to convince MIL to choose a lighter wig, but she stuck to her guns insisting it looked "natural". Yup, only if you were blind.

My mother never dyed her hair and while she lived to 96, she had some gray hairs but never went full gray like she wanted. I am mostly silver gray with a few brown streaks that are on the back of my head. Don't miss the expense nor the time it took to maintain my ash blonde highlights.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Betrayal: I got a good hint for clearing clothes closets several years ago. Turn all the hangers the same way on the rod. After you wear something, turn the top of the hanger to face the other way. I found it embarrassing the number of things I never touched in a year.

Minus Two — What a fantastic hint for Betrayal and un-worn/used clothes. I see these things and think it such a commonsense solution. I think of myself as a commonsense person — but never thought of such an easy straight-forward solution.

Studies of volunteers have shown there is a benefit to performing acts of love for other people. The irony is that it is actually in your best interest to be selfless. The things you do for the benefit of others not only make you feel fulfilled, but they also increase your chances of living a long and happy life. Remember that an act of love always benefits at least two people .Bernie Siegel

I’m way behind. We arrived Friday about 6pm. Same routine of saying hi to all who are out and then dragging our stuff inside. Only difference this time is due to hurricane guests, we stripped beds too.

The yearly power wash hasn’t hit my house yet so my lanai furniture is still inside my house. Fingers crossed tomorrow they get to us, then furniture will be out. I’ve vacuumed around (guests w 3 kids) but can’t use the iRobot until lanai furniture is out.

When I left in June, as I was filling up the car gas tank, I noticed the rear passenger tire was flat. I filled it, but told partner we needed to bring down the tire from NY for that car. Malibu vs Impala. Good thing we did; it’s flat. But with power washers no cars can be in the driveway. It’s in the garage; Monday we’ll jack it up and take that tire with the one we brought down to swap them out at BJ’s or Walmart. Need to use the rim. A job! May wait until Tuesday because we have a lot to get to.

Betrayal, we had those carrots too in NY. I tossed them in the garbage the night before we left. My niece was coming to take foods, and I mentioned to take the carrots. Glad I saw the news that night.

Gym suits, that’s a memory from the past. My sister is 7 years older, so in 6th grade I was able to use one she had. But it was green, and all the new ones were dark blue, little cap sleeve, and a blend that never wrinkled. You could tell at a glance all of us that had older sisters! We bought me a new blue one. HA! Lasted 7 years, 6th grade thru graduation. We couldn’t wear anything but it - if you’re chilly/cold, run some laps and you’ll warm up.

Carole, I’ve gone to dark blonde hair. White snow cap roots were too hard to keep up with when it was medium brown. I told all the FL ladies, now I know why you were all blondes when I met you 9 years ago! Most have gone white/grey by now.

Harley, great news on your clear PET scan!

Wren , that’s a good idea on a makeup consult. Once I’m settled I’ll look to get it done.

Petite, I remember the IRS snafu. I think they might pay you interest too.

Jackie, it’s been colder here in FL too. 49 yesterday morning. When I went out to get rid of dead plants - lost a jasmine and a potted hibiscus, it was 59 with full sun and felt great. Good temps to do yard work. I wore jeans and a long sleeve tee.

Minus, good suggestion on hangers. I have clothes in FL & NY that I know I haven’t worn. I’ve got some here with me that I intend on giving to the smaller ladies - felt crazy packing them but they can be used by others here.

That’s it for me. I need to get back outside, the back garden has some broken branches and the banana tree needs tending to. But I’d like to sit & do nothing. Maybe watch some football. Have a great Sunday!

ismacurler - welcome. Sorry that none of us were on tax. (Can't remember how to spell it). I was under the impression that AI's were always the first choice for post-menopausal women. I second the suggestion that you talk to your MO more about it and check out the suggested sites. I am 8 years post diagnosis so maybe things have changed again. I hated the SE of the AI's too and stopped them sooner than most but I haven't been sorry.

Next two weeks are full of appointments - primary, dentist, and a shoulder orthopedic doc. Knees are doing well but the shoulder is obviously next on the list.

Daytime weather is beautiful but mornings are in the 40's when Ken walks the dog. I layer for golf and am usually shedding by the first rest room.

We too have spent the day watching football. Cardinals lost first place in the division to Seattle but SF lost and LA is behind. No o the 4 are especially good though and won't last long in the post season. Also picked up some new bath linens for the hall bath now that I no longer have to deal with the blue paint in there.

Wishing everyone a good Thanksgiving week.

I went to Target today to return an item, a brush curling iron I bought thinking it was a brush hair dryer. When I went to the place in the store where I'd found the item, I saw that it had been marked down for Black Friday. So was the brush dryer I had considered buying before. It seems all the stores have Black Friday sales going on before Black Friday comes around.

I also went to Belk's, a department store, to walk around and see if anything said, "Buy me." I saw a blouse I liked and then I noticed the line at the checkout counter in that department. Belk's wasn't prepared for the number of shoppers out on Monday morning. I ended up checking out in the shoe department.

I need to pack this afternoon, a task I hate.

My long story …long - the tire removal was a task!! 2009 Malibu, bought in 2008, and we’ve never had to use the jack. I started working on it last night. It was just about rusted around the pin that holds it all together. We got the doughnut tire out, although I did need my partners hand strength as help. That pin had a corrosion of some sort.
Then I sat on a cushion on the garage floor to get off the lug nut covers. Another job! Then the wheel cover.
I was able to get off 2 lug nuts, but needed partners weight to stand on the jack socket handle. LOL And then we stopped for the night. I’m glad we did all that at night when it was cooler.
This morning I went out and jacked the car up enough to remove the tire. I took it and the replacement tire; to swap on the rim.
First stop BJ’s automotive. They looked at it, but they weren’t tires purchased from them so they wouldn’t help me.
Second stop Walmart. They require an appointment and wouldn’t even look at it. I took the 3pm appt they offered.
Third stop was Dunbar tire, run by a large group of Jamaican men. They took the old tire and put the new one on and tested it in water, within 10 minutes it was back in my trunk. $20 and I was on my way. I’ve used them before for the Impala with 2 new tires shipped directly there. Shame on me for not going there first!

Power washers - apparently had altercations with 2 families in the development and left, refusing to return. One man they say threatened them has brittle bone disease and wouldn’t hurt a flea. But the bottom line is tomorrow I will power wash my own front lanai. I need the lanai furniture out of my house! I don’t think this fight/argument will be settled anytime soon. I was out of energy today, so tomorrow it is!

After a late dinner, I’m making the homemade cranberry sauce. It can keep in the refrigerator for Thanksgiving.

That’s it! Cooler mornings but warm humid afternoons. It’s not snow, so I’ll shut up.

The universe was created in utter perfection and does not need our help to improve it.  Humanity’s attempts to override nature have separated us from our source and destroyed what can save us.  A camera can point to the glory of a pristine forest but cannot create it.  No smartphone is smart enough to spin a planet into orbit. God speaks to us daily, but we rarely take the time to listen.  Nature is my church.  When I walk in nature I know the Tao.  No building, altar, or ritual is necessary.  Human beings have created magnificent, awe-inspiring cathedrals, but none can surpass the wonder of a starry night. Carol, I'm not surprised about Black Friday being started early, I guess. Seems like everyone is trying to get the jump on everyone and everything else sometimes. Sort of sad, but we don't seem to know how to not let it go on. We are into progress — even when some of it is not so great.

Cindy, I bet we have all done it — is that our trying to make Murphy's Law wrong??😁You likely really will know where to start the next time. Well, the important thing now is it will all get done and out of your hair — so there is room for something else.

We didn't get any of the Chicago snow, but then Chicago is four hours minimum north of us so I wasn't highly concerned. I did think though that we might get colder, but fortunately that didn't happen either. We stayed about as cool as we have been.

A few things to do today that I put off — shame on me. Definitely a catch-up da for sure.

Saying hi to all and hoping you have a good day with good weather.

Yes, IRS did pay interest. This check came at the perfect time to help with home repairs.

Gray hair - or white - mine has been gray and now white. I stopped coloring when I retired.

Cindy, my old lady body could not change a tire, or get up from the garage floor once I got down there. LOL, You go girl!

We are going to a friend's home for Thanksgiving so tomorrow is my big cooking day. 2 pies, cheesecake bars and mashed potatoes. DH will do the potato and apple peeling, and heavy lifting so it shouldn't actually take too long.

We are happy to stay local this year as we will head to New England for the Christmas holidays. A longer trek we'll have to stagger.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving however you may celebrate (US readers 😊)

I do think we are staying home this year for Thanksgiving. Have to see how things go. Mainly due to as usual salt restriction, but we have lost many in our family who were here, and getting together is not easy like it once was with people bringing dishes to share etc. I'm thinking maybe a turkey loaf and maybe meatloaf with potatoes and another vegetable and the cranberry dessert with pineapple, nuts and whipped cream for the 'festive' touch.

Reader, the cheesecake bars, mmmm. I love most anything that has the word cheesecake in it. Nice that you do get to stay close to home. One of the nice things about home is when you are all done (or have come home from the neighbors, is you can curl up and have a little nap to sleep off the good food.

We have had gray days now two days in a row. Dh said it might rain yesterday but never did. Forecast said rain in two hours here. We will see — I find printed forecasts usually un-reliable mainly. I actually sort of like it when it does start to really rain — it is the gray beforehand and after that I find bothersome and somewhat depressing.

Hope you all have a good Thanksgiving Eve and don't have to do too much. Saying hi to anyone not posting.

petite1, glad the IRS refund with interest came at a good time. Nice to have a windfall when it is least expected.

reader425, enjoy your meal with friends. I am going to DS's and have my pineapple casserole and sweet potatoes to make for the meal and some extra for leftovers.

carole, forget where you are going but enjoy the trip.

cindyny, I wish I had half your energy. You get so much done and are willing to face challenges seeking a resolution. I was in my 20's the last time I changed a tire and with the way they put the lug nuts on now I'd never get them off.

harley, glad to hear PET scan results were clear. Hope you do not get another drop of snow this early with the cold wave we are supposed to get after Thanksgiving.

taco, I had a rotator cuff repair on the left and while it was a painful recovery, it was a cure for my shoulder issues. No regrets.

minustwo, I have used the reverse hanger trick but find that moving the clothing article to the end of the rack works just as well. I do have some items which are for wearing casually vs for wearing to an appointment that might fall out of rotation though. Thanks for your input.

Have theme songs from Phantom playing to encourage Bumble Bee to sing. He has been trilling along with some of the music. He definitely is a mood lifter.

Overcast with peeks of the sun looking like it would it may clear. Temps in mid 50's and tomorrow is predicted to be rainy (welcomed) and maybe low 50's but know it will still be bone chilling.

Thought the end of 2024 was going to be kinder than the start but the "God saying, here hold my beer" has struck yet again. A failing refrigerator freezer is the least of my worries since it can very expensively be replaced by a newer model. Just need to decide what make and model and decide on supplier.

It is another medical challenge that I am ill-equipped to deal with right now and am feeling gutted by, yet another hurdle. I need to curl up in a ball and detach for a bit so I'll be lurking but most likely not posting (yes, you can have a sigh of relief). This is deja vu of what occurred 9 years ago at exactly this time of year and forever ruined my ability to celebrate the holidays. I somehow have to figure a way to be cheerful at my niece's wedding this Saturday and to get through Thursday.

So Happy Thanksgiving. wishing you the joy of friendship, family, festivity and lots of great food.

Petite, you made me giggle. I get up off the floor with the use of my hands & knees! Getting up/down easily is a thing of the past. Now even sitting there with a leg bent can cause a cramp somewhere in my body.

Betrayal, sending hugs your way. You've been going through so much different stuff, with health & house. Curl up in a ball for as long as you need, but know we’ve got your back and will lend an ear to whatever you feel like sharing.

Jackie, here it’s 71 with full sun. NY it’s cold and snowing. They started out with rain in NY and it’s turned to snow. I like seeing the first snow as it covers up the dead lawns and gardens. Then I’m done with it.

Power washing - the other day I ran around early, back home for lunch, then back out running around with my partner. I was getting frustrated as time was ticking. The later it got, the less likely I thought we’d do the power washing of the front lanai. In my head I thought forget about it. But once we were back and everything was put away, I got my second wind. We got the hose hooked up, power washer hooked up, and BAM, it took less than 15 mins to complete. Such relief. We waited until it was dried and got the furniture out of my dining room and back where it belongs - on the lanai.

Then yesterday we received an email from the HOA. The power washers would be back on Monday, December 2. HA! I’m glad we did it ourselves and furniture is out of my house.

I was even able to use my iRobot for the first time- no furniture blocking it in.

Our neighborhood dinner is at 5:30. My contributions are all ready. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!🦃

Betrayal - sending hugs. Good karma isn't your friend right now.

Went to Cooper's hawk last night with Maureen. Ella, Larry and Debbie had gone to SF and Maureen had to work today. Disappointing and over-priced even with the $100 gift certificate that the Niners had given me at the end of my Presidency.

Today we were invited to join my former golf partner and her husband at their independent living place for an early dinner. Very good food for a buffet but Jie was sick so there were just 3 of us. Home for a nap and football afterwards.

Book club is reading "The First Ladies." It's a reread for me but I'm enjoying it again.

Good (is it black Friday) morning. It is 28 degrees outside. It will warm, but guess it is the reason why the forecast has been saying, maybe snow. It will pretty much finish off the rest of the leaves from most of the trees.

We had a nice day yesterday. I ended up with a meatloaf, cubed potatoes with butter, Lesure peas (a long time favorite of mine) and cranberry dish. Daughter went out and got a Chocolate Pie for dessert. I tried a new seasoning for the meatloaf, and everyone had seconds. It was a meatloaf spice that Watkins sells. I thought of it as okay, but everyone else thought it was great. Chocolate pie for me is meh, but I did have a small piece. Was nice to have our small family together this year.

Hope you had a great day. I don't (never have actually) do black Friday — in the stores or online either. It was something of a gimmick, started in the 80's I think. I'm not sure bargains (unless it is big things like appliances) are all that now. So many things can be cheaply made and, in some cases, cheaply made means an inferior product. If you need something big (thinking refrigerator for Betrayal) now might be a good time. Black sales go on for a bit so no need to hurry out.

Blessings to all the posters we have had here. If you are gone, you are missed and if you are just coming, you are welcome. Have a wonderful day.

Wow !! Didn't have any snow overnight but it is 28 degrees, and we have all day (according to the weatherman) to accumulate up to five inches of snow. We don't always get anything like what is predicted, but with the temps we have I am tempted to get out and find someone place to get two new front tires for my car. Also, it is time to start thinking about possible icy conditions. Winter weather seems to have pretty much got here from one day to the next.

Taco, hope you enjoyed the football game. We spent our afternoon finishing up a jigsaw puzzle we had been working on. We did jigsaws years ago but gave it up at some point and decided to take it back up again. We have been doing them for a while now and have quite a collection already.

I was amazed to find out how much they cost nowadays. Well, actually everything we buy seems to cost more but starting price now seems to be in the neighborhood of $5.00 and change on up. The fancier they are (and some are quite elaborate) the more they cost. We have gotten a lot from Goodwill. The downside is that now and then because people turn them in w/o securing the box (taping the sides before they donate) there are now and then missing pieces. Thankfully, doesn't happen too often. The last time I was at Goodwill I had an interesting looking puzzle. The box was so heavy — and I opened it at the check-out counter to find not a puzzle inside but a bag of heavy seashells. That was a first, but sure glad I chose to look in advance.

Cindy, hoping you have caught your breath by now and Betrayal — thinking of you as well.

    Talk to you all later.

Jackie, have your daughter & SIL help you to order tires online. They usually cost much less, you’re able to pick your brand too. Last year (or year before) we ordered 2 new ones for the Impala. They ship directly to a tire store for installation. And you get to know exactly how much the installation will cost ahead of placing your order. Can’t hurt to look.

We’re more settled. Only ran out for some birthday cards today.

It was 63 this morning as I finally got in a good walk. No one else was out walking. Too cold for most. I loved it.

Hope you all have a good weekend.
