Nancy618 - you will love "All the Light" it was captivating!

I too keep lists of books I have read, the old brain is not what it used to be!

Just back from a week of camping at the beach - I am mostly a kindle reader, but found that 1) cant see the screen at the beach and 2) dont want it to get wet. Next year I am packing some paperbacks to bring.

Still reading zookeepers wife, it is getting better but took me a long time to get into it. Read a lot on the 8 hour car ride home yesterday, but no where near finished and it's due tomorrow!

    Hello to all

Welcome Nancy, Hey Tomboy ;).. I'm currently reading the CJ Box series on the park ranger. My memory slips, I think his name is pickett. It's a good page turner.

ruth, I'm past jealous and have that book. It's hilarious...I'm going to dig the sweet potato girls out, I have a few of them.

Val - I love the Joe Pickett books. I pick them up at used book stores so haven't read them in order, but that's OK.

I'm reading the Joe Pickett books by C.J. Box now, too! Am on book four - I borrow the e-books from my library and read them on my Kindle.

RI: I got a Kindle Paperwhite so that I could read at the beach. The only time I take paperbacks or hardcovers with me is when we travel by car to our cottage. Otherwise, all the books are usually borrowed through my library onto the Kindle.

Rabbit Cake by Annie Hartnett - here is a quote from the Kirkus Review - This is the moving and often funny story of a family trying to figure out what to do next now that their touchstone is gone. The narrator's voice is a stunning combination of youthful and astute. Elvis is an 11 year old girl living in a small town in Alabama with her father and 16 year old sister. Her mother has recently died - having drowned swimming in the nearby river - while asleep. Elvis has a scientific turn of mind like her mom and tries to make sense of the accident and of her grief - and she looks for clues by finishing her mother's book on the sleeping disturbances of animals. Her sister Lizzie is also a sleep walker with a rebellious streak, her dad copes with his loss by wearing his wife's clothes and makeup (at home only) and by bonding with a parrot which speaks in her voice. They all try to help and protect each other as they navigate their "new normal". I really enjoyed the book - esp the characters. Although you never meet the mom, you appreciate her - her dreams and foibles too.

Val & Ruth - may I copy the recipe and some of the comments over to the dinner thread? I love the visual of standing around the pan with everyone digging for the last little bite, and the grandson with chocolate all over his face.

Nancy618, do you use Kindle Unlimited? I do, and I love it, but it is sometimes hard to find new reading material on there.

hi all and welcome the newbies.

This summer, I'm reading through the Outlander series. Halfway through book #6 A Breath of Snow & Ashes. Great series. Took a break from Jamie & Claire today, though, in favor of Lucas Davenport, Extreme Prey.

Hi all, voraciousreader encouraged me to pop in and say hello!

Right now I am finishing Michael Ruhlman's book 'The Making of a Chef: Mastering Heat at the Culinary Institute of America'. As a "foodie" I love reading books by chefs that I admire about their experiences in their kitchens/world. Am not that much into baking/desserts, but am anxiously awaiting the next recipe post! :p

My father in law gave me four books of The Ghosts of Virginia. I started reading one and I am getting close to the halfway point of the book.

VR - just read this blurb in my Bookmarks magazine and thought of you.

"I volunteer at the Book Cellar, a used bookstore operated by the Friends of Webster Library that is located in the cellar of the Webster Branch of the NY Public Library. All of our books are donated, we are all volunteers, and the proceeds benefit branch libraries of the NYPL."

I'd love to go to this used bookstore. I'd love to take them my used books.
