so I am not the only one who has finger that refuse to type what I am trying to say.  lol

Post earlier on FaceBook.... Ice Creaming in calling.  Now it makes me wonder maybe my child is right and I do say some horrible mistakes all the time.  If my fingers do it maybe I am saying them too.  lol

Kira, thank you for reposting that here. We all need to read it and reread it.

I have a relative in dh's family who would occasionally pull the "think positive thoughts". Drove me nuts. Then when I got the mets dx she said "I will think positive thoughts for you". Well, OK, that's better.

Ducky, c'mon here under the bed with us. We're eating brownies.

Jo-5...........I 'm coming to dinner.........Worms sound good right how................

I'm sitting here at the computer with the "heels" that I'm taking to D.C. with me to my grandaughter's graduation, and then to dinner...............I'm making sure I can tolerate them for more then 20 minutes, cause if not..................hurting feet......and this LE arm, I might just rip off the arm, and beat the shit out of the 1st person that says (awwwww, how are you feeling), I'll just show them by whacking them with the stump................the only thing worse would be "rain", and I heard D.C.is getting that too.

Oh well, I have to put on my happy face, maybe I'll go in the bedroom, smile in the mirror, and see which face will impress the people who say (awwwwwwww how are you feeling).  Should I practice how to say  "fuc--ng lousy.............................Damn I'm nasty Undecided

There really is not much you can do.  If it is LE, extreme cold and heat can both make it worse.  I would take some motrin because the Dr. probing could have cause some normal inflammation.  I hope somebody else chimes in soon...... maybe even a luke warm bath if nothing else but to calm you down...I always find a bath to make me feel better.  I just make sure not to get it to hot now.

No, no ice, elevate your arm.  Drink lots of water and don't lift a finger if you can help it until you go to your appt. tomorrow.

Edit to add~is there any redness?

Hey gals..........does water really help LE.........my daughter haunts the hell out of me telling me everything (other then the cancer) that happens to me is because I don't drink water.........my dizziness, my headaches, my body aches.........she never lets up.........Everytime I say I have something hurting she will say "are you drinking water" to the point where I want to squeeze her 42 year neck till her gorgeous eyes pop out..........I told her I was going to get a T-shirt for her that says "did you drink your water" but maybe she is right.,

Granny, if your breast is really sore, it could be an infection, so it would be a very good idea to have it checked out--any redness, pain, fever--could be a skin infection.

    IMO, this is LE--not edema.

And LE sets you up for infections

duckyb1 - Water IS extremely important!  Maybe you do need to listen to your daughter!  Surprised Wink

Most of us don't drink enough water which leads to dehydration, which causes dizziness, headaches, dry skin, constipation ... a whole slew of problems.  Lymph fluid is made up of protein molecules and those protein molecules bond with the water molecules and it helps flush the lymph fluid out of our bodies.  No soda, no caffeine, water.  Sometimes I drink seltzer or perrier water or I'll flavor it with lemon or lime just to switch it up a bit.  Drink up, sister!  Laughing

Grannydukes, check out the link Kira posted -- please! Can't be too careful with this stuff.

Sharon gave you great advice -- drink lots, elevate the arm, take it real easy with that whole side of your body, and do some deep abdominal breathing from time to time.

And for goodness sake keep us posted -- you've got us all worried!Surprised

    Real gentle hugs,
    Binney

    The water does help.

As for the large breast thing....they are right. We get a higher dose of radiation. Thats why I had lumpectomy with reduction...but they are still pretty darn big...just not freakishly huge.

I am beginning to think controlling the breast le is key to the arm le.

Oh and would my freakin' garments get here already????????

Cookie, as a someone who works for a rad onc--technically you get the same dose, but it is delivered over a larger field--so you are getting more to the body.

I see a lot of  breast LE show up in the large breasted women. As soon as I can see visible pores, I know it's coming...

There is a link to an good article on breast and trunk LE:

Do you do morning MLD before or after you shower?  Anyone notice one being more effective than the other?  KS1

Duckyb1, I must be your long lost daughter!  The joke with my kids and husband is that they could break a leg and I would prescribe water.  But seriously, I think water is key.  My father, brother and I all independently discovered that drinking copious amounts of water decreased the frequency of sinus, migraines, and cluster headaches. One thing I have noticed is that my body seems to have adjusted to my drinking lots of water.  I'm not a happy camper on 8 glasses of water.  KS1

    Hi Ladies,

Having a tough day with lots of LE discomfort and swelling after a really long day yesterday. I am a Doula (which is a professional labor support person) and had a 20 hour birth. I'm really worried that I am going to have to stop as birth is so unpredictable. Anyway, went to my MLD therapist and she actually seemed quite concerned and sent me home to wrap and rest. She (therapist) has acted as though my LE was pretty minor and has kind of made me feel like a whimp because I have pain associated with it. I'm sure she has seen much worse but this does hurt, my arm, back, side and ribs are driving me crazy! She has said things like, well with LE, there really isn't pain associated with it. You must have some hypersensitivity due to nerve damage! Anyway, today she seemed kind of different, since I have swelled up like a tick! Pretty damn frustrating!,,,,

Thinking of you all and hoping you don't have a SWELL day, but one of joy and laughter.

Hello sistas...thanks everyone for your concern yesterday....i did what all of you told me...drank gallons of water, did not lift a finger to do anything, slept with my arm raised and woke up feeling like a new person...called the RO this morning and he said go to the therapy and make sure you have a long session....i feel fine.still drinking lots of water, had a great massage and wearing the harness again...now all i need is a new wardrobe to cover the harness.....gosh that should be my biggest problem.....God bless all of you.hugggggggggs K

Christine, I'm so sorry!Frown (Well, not sorry about the birth -- congrats on a long job well done, and I hope the babe is thriving!Smile)

The therapist makes me mad -- lucky for her we all live all over the world and aren't close enough to march on her office!Yell No pain indeed! No empathy, that's the problem.

You must be so distressed over the possibility of having to give up your amazing calling -- please don't go there yet, as there's still plenty of hope that you can get on top of this and develop some coping strategies that will let you continue.

In the meantime, rest up, elevate, drink lots of water, take some deep breaths. A bit of self-MLD, gentle and slow.

And keep us posted. Thinking of you!
    Binney

Edited to add: And brownies, of courseCool.

Christine--the National Lymphedema Network issued a paper stating that LE causes pain:

I really hope this doesn't stop you from your work.

Kira thank you for posting the letter... I just wish ms stout had lymphedema so she could tell herself that there is no pain associated with a flair. It's rare for me to have a pain free day.

Ladies, have any of you ever used horse chestnut, my partner picked some up for me and I just wondered if you have any experience with it. It states it is for vein health but I think some of her research suggested it for the lymphatic system. It is a type of water pill I guess. Just wanted your opinions. Thank you!

Christine5 - I've no idea about horse chestnut.  If you don't get a response here you might want to ask your question on the 'natural girls' thread.
