granny~I'm all doctored out....Just really tired with the pain stuff.....and now I woke up with a running nose and sore throat.  I haven't been sick since before chemo - nov 2010! forgot what this feels like! lol.

Being a not very small person, how will they know that it's LE? I mean I can feel the soreness and all, but how can they tell? Just by explaining the symptoms?

Gina-in my experience, it will show very evident lines after you take your bra off-first clue.  Then, in my case I was pretty red and the skin was hot.  I thought I had gotten cellulitis again. But, I think in some cases it would not be red, just swollen.  When I feel myself flaring up (like lately when I have been going to bed without a bra, finally!), I will see that things have just gotten bigger than the other side when I look in the mirror.  I have it on my side and my breast and my breastbone does swell as well.  It is a weird sort of soreness.  Can barely touch the skin without wincing when it is bad.

Hope this helps!  BTW you may have just slept on your breast wrong.  I do that sometimes, but the soreness will go away in a short time.  I really think that once radiated, the whole area will be very sensitive for a while.  If it isn't better soon and stays worrisome, just stop in at the doc to be sure.  I usually give my ailments 2 weeks before investigating (unless of course they are acute).  I I have been a hyper-hypochondriac lately.  Every twinge I think is cancer.  Oh brother, when will it end!

Gina---please go to the I HATE LE....these sistas are real pros.serious pros.like in that field.just talk to them.they are wonderful.Kara & Binney. They will guide you every steop of the way....

everyone becomes a hypochondriac after they heard the word cancer in the same sentence with your name.....and rightfully so.we must stay on top of the smallest things.someone put on a thread i read even if her nose feels not right she is thinkin of cancer in there too.

Always waitin for the other shoe to drop.that is one shitty way to live!!!!!!

    hugggggggs everyone K

Gina-I had my only cold since diagnosis back in December.  I went running to the doctor immediately because I thought it was a sinus infection.  It turned out to be just a cold.  I had just forgotten what it felt like ;)  Hope you are feeling better!

Hi, this is off topic but I wanted to share - I went for my annual skin check and in the last year since I finished rads I had a very small dark spot appear near the incision in the radiation area.  My dermatologist said that she would like to remove it and have the pathologist check it.  She said it didn't look suspicious but thought that any new 'moles' in the area that has been irradiated should be checked.  Just an FYI if you should notice anything new on your skin.

    Great Walley!

Omaz, I haad some brown spots, most tiny, that appeared on my skin during rads. They *said* they would dissappear. So far, not so much. But I was burned badly. Maybe I will take longer. I am only 2-1/2 months out.

BTW, my PT is also an OT and says this is important because an OT's job is to get you back to your LIFE!

    Question:

I have just started PT/OT (2 sessions so far) and am having some new-to-me swelling (slight) and pain in my ribs on my ribcage side towards my back below armpit, (like if you were to reach the opposite arm around your body and hold your oposite rib areas beyond the breast).  Do any of you know if this is from all the new stretching of the tightened areas or has anyone experienced this? It has been painful for five days now.

Due to scheduling, I'm not on the calendar to see my PT/OT for two more weeks. But maybe I should call or maybe I should just realize that the new movement is going to come with new stretching pains??

truebff, I still hurt too, 8 months post rads with only a lumpectomy.  I think rads is what really gets us!

    Yeah Wally! wonderful news.

This is a new area for me. It is only slightly swollen, not visibly unless you compared it to the other side. I don't like it.
