I had my 3 month exam after rads, everything was okay. But now I am having rib pain, don't know if it is from exams or rads,If I remember right did you post  that you also had pain by your ribs? Just wondering if this just goes with all the other side effects.Has anyone  had  rib pain?

Hi Granny~ I had the BRAC test it was negative too.  Had it been positive I think I would have opted for BX instead of lump - but here's some postitive news on the test - My mom had the BRAC test done with her DX in 1998 and was negative.  My BS said the chance is minimal that the gene comes from the father's side, but I wanted to be tested anyway.  I was negative so my daughter chances of having the gene are minimal.

Walley yes I had rib pain right before I went for my 3 month post rads check up.  It hurt to the touch but not when I took a breath.  So RO said that happens and it should go away.  It was on and off for a few weeks and then just stopped. Glad  your check up was good

Walley that is how mine felt as well.  RO said since it did not hurt taking a breath there were no broken ribs, just irritated lining around the ribs. It will go away.  I cannot take ibuprofen so he gave me Celebrex to take and it helped and then went away. Hope yours does not hang around too long.

OMG~ my "someone is stabbing me from the inside out through my nipple" pain is back with a vengeance....then burning sensation afterward......brings me to tears fast......nerve damage or nerves healing???? hurts either way............

Gina I guess we all have to learn our own bodies, but it sounds more like damage to be than healing.  If you google nerve damage what you are describing is what you will read.

On that note, I have been having quiet a bit more breakthrough pain in my breast even though I never miss my medication.  When I saw the PS last week he made a general comment about having more scar tissue than the last time I had seen him.  So my pec muscle on my rads side has really been tight tight tight so I called my masseuse and she could only do me at lunch today so I took it.  Boy howdy it took her 1 1/2 hours to work out my kinks.  When she started on my pec she could feel how tight it was and I was able to show her about where the pain was behind my nipple and she found the exact spot.  I like to have come off the table.  Anyway she said she could feel the scar tissue down there.  Mind you this is from rads.  Nowhere close to my surgical area. So I think I'll be seeing her more often for awhile and see if I can keep this pain down.

Gina - Like Sherry I too have permanent nerve damage from rads and what you are describing sounds just like it.  I was sent to a pain specialist who told me that is what was causing the pain - not healing - damage.  Sounds like a visit to a pain specialist is in order for you.  I did not have them all the time in the beginning - I would have several days in a row pain free and then they became more frequent and more intense.  Sherry and I both take amitriptyline - we are on different dosages but the results are the same.

Sherry - I have had some breakthrough pains myself lately.  Nothing to really write home about.  I have had a few intense ones but they don't seem to last very long.

Jo I hope yours don't get worse.  I have some days where it is not so bad and the cream the pain dr gave me will take care of it.  Then I have other days that are so intense nothing helps and I have to take a Loritab when I get home from work and go to bed. I am hoping this massaging will help.

Sherry - Most of the time, massaging takes the pain away.  I do have a few Loritabs myself that my BS gave me for my mammo.  I have been hanging on to those - I think I have 3 left.

Walley -  I have rib and clavicle pain on the radiation side, it started about 1/2 way through radiation and has stayed pretty much the same ever since.  My last radiation was 11/10.  It mainly hurts to touch, like it's bruised, my MO and RO said that's a common complaint, so I guess it's nothing to worry about unless it changes.

    Hi Chabba,

Thanks for your input. I am doing a survey. I had my radiation checkup today and it is something my radiologist said that has prompted me to ask all of you ladies the above question. So I will wait for some more answers before posting again.

My mammo was 7 mos post rads.It was supposed to be 6 mos but i swelled up so i had to wait.According to my BS,RO and Onco its supposed to be 6 mos.post rads.I still think every dr had their own plan...As usual they make up the rules and we the guenea pigs have to follow what they feel is PROTOCOL. I just hate that word....It should be a standard procedure for all of us..

So tonight my breast feels much better since I had the massage today.  It is a little sore but not the pain I was having and my pec muscle feels more like it should.

Stage 1:  Definitely nice that they have a diagnosis for me.  I go to PT for my back, so it has always been a happy medium between not ignoring those muscles and working them too much.  there is always a danger that the area will freeze up.  I have a neighbor who is 1 yr. post-rads who cannot even lift her arm due to inactivity!  I'm sure the lymphadema clinic will get me back on track and show me necessary massage techniques.

  • Hello ladies,

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice here.  I just finished my 11th out of 30 Rad treatments and noticed yesterday that my rad. breast is noticeably smaller than the right breast.  I'm a small B cup to start with, so I'm REALLY UPSET about this. Did any of you have this? Will it return to its normal size after Rads? Can they do reconstructive surgery after Rads? I'm seeing my RO today and will ask him all of this as well, but the amount of info. I've gotten from the dr.s is piss poor at best so far. So I really don't have a lot of faith in what they tell me anymore.

I really hope some one can offer some info. as I haven't stopped crying since yesterday.

Stormy - Mine was noticeable smaller during rads and seemed to get back to some semblance of normal.  My left is smaller than the right and I can only tell when I am braless.

stormy-mine swelled on me.  The swelling has just started going down and now I am smaller on my rads side.  Can't tell when I am dressed.  However if you think you may being having any kind of plastic surgery afterwards I would suggest that you get a PS Consult as soon as possible as rads limits what can be done afterwards.  I am having a MX because of some nerve problems and my PS tells me I cannot have implants because of rads.  However I do know someone else on the boards that was larger breasted and ended up smaller and waited three years and was able to have an implant put in.  So everyone is different but I think consults give you knowledge which gives you power.  I hope things settle down for you.
