Went to see my MO today.  First time since rads.  The nurse thought my curly hair was pretty funny.  I think it shocked her because it was so different from my old hair.  I'm going to keep it hidden for awhile.  The doctor is so nonchalant about everything.  Does anyone else have docs that seem to downplay everything?  I'm swollen above my clavicle and she just says he doesn't feel any hard lymph nodes, so it must be nothing.  I have dizzy episodes, so they tell me I must need more water or protein.  Not very scientific or reassuring.

mammalou - Sounds like I would be finding a new MO.  I have one that listens to what I have to say and he works with me on everything.  He does not downplay anything.

mammalou~ I have ALOT of swelling in my clavicle where I got radiated.  My other side was swelling too after I had my port removed.  They did an ultrasound on the port side looking for blood clot, swollen nodes etc (all negative) but never did the rad side.

I can't wear underwire bras, they make me feel like I can't breathe.  I really think everything is still swollen....hope you feel better soon.

grannydukes~I get squished in November.  I keep telling myself - at least it's not a breast MRI!

    Hi All!

Just returned from my 4 month post-rad check.  I guess I have lymphadema of the breast, which would explain all my problems with pain and swelling.  They explained to me that it is something they see in their more active patients and will just need some PT and massage to get things moving properly in the new lymph system (post biopsy) .  It seems my carrying a bag with massive amounts of books in it may be the cause (I am a grad student in English).  Not sure what they will suggest I do.  Maybe a rolling book bag?  Really don't want to highlight my age difference any more than I have to.  Most of my fellow students are 22 and I am 42!!

I did ask about the underwire bras, and they said it all depends on the patient.  Some absolutely cannot wear them, and some have no trouble at all.

Now, to look forward to my own "squishing" on November 1st (mammogram).  It was enough to have my breast violently poked todayWink  Still hurts!  Can't imagine the pain of the mammogram.  Uggg!

I had my first post mamo  in January--I was still very sore and swollen.  Before this one the imaging tech always left me hurting so you could say I was more than a little apprehensive.  Same tech, gentle as can be, not even a pinch on either breast.  Believe me I thanked her.

Susan- I had swelling too and th ephysio and massage helped immensely. I now wear my wire bras and forget I hav ethem on...not so two months ago. The lymph drainage/massage and my own trigger point massage of the breast area are what I credit this to...and time..it is now 9 months. I was still sweollen at 6 and 7 months.

    granny...sending you hugs!

Granny - Just let me know what time you are going and I will jump in the messy purse of yours.  Would you please clean it up a bit?  I take up a bit more room these days - LOL!  You are going to do just great.  If that tech hurts you, I will get out of your purse and kick her all the way to the Hudson River.

Yes I did BUT im far from finished.Im done with the mammo but next week I have the US AND the tech and I talked about me goin for the BRACA test.I dont even know much about it.My oldest daughter had thyroid cancer and my mom died of ovarian cancer and I did have 7 D&Cs so I am considered in a kinda hi risk????BUT IM NOT STRESSIN!!!!!!

And it still is all good.huggggggggs K

Granny so glad you got a good report.  Guess I'll get out of your purse now.  Glad it was not bad for you.  As far the BRCA test, I went ahead and did it.  I figured if I was positive I would have my ovaries taken out.  In your case if were to be positive then it would give your daughters more info to decide if they want to be tested and be proactive about all the bc crap that we are dealt. Mine was negative but all along I felt knowledge was power.

Sherry---are you talkin another surgery if im tested positive?????Im 70 yrs old.besides my 2 daughters i have 4 GDs too.I do feel knowledge is power thats why im askin.I really dont know too much about it.I thought if i was positive then my DDs would have to do what they had to do.my nieces father has thryoid cancer.she had the test and had her thryoid removed.I thought thats how it worked.another chapter NOT lookin forward to.

Yes and the beat goes on!!!!!!

Granny-if you are BRCA positive they say you have a slightly higher risk of ovarian cancer. But I don't know how much age plays into any of that.  I know with being younger if you test positive the will recommend that you have your ovaries removed, but not everyone does.

granny - What a hand of cards we have been dealt.  This is almost as bad as getting a "dead man"s hand in poker.  You are a card player - you know what I mean.

  • FireKracker
    FireKracker Member Posts: 5,858

Yeah I know what you mean about the dead mans hand.ALWAYS WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP.

what a damn shitty way to live....I have seen BC survivors(hate that word) but i do have many friends who beat this damn bc.for many yrs.Thank you God BUT every little thing still drives them crazy....Its so unfair.I know they came a long way but DAMNIT find a find the F#&*ing cure.....

susan, at least they have diagnosed your pain.  Now you can worry a little less?  I just hate not knowing what it is when I get a pain.  Sounds like you might be too active?  Maybe doing more than you should.  Rolling book bag sounds good.  Just listen to your body.  I try to exercise, and my left arm says "NO!"  So I exercise everything else, when I have the energy>Cool

    Hugs to ALL
