PBMX for ALH or ADH?

surgery went well
First week was tough but it got better
It took two weeks for drains to come out
I have to go in twice weekly to have fluid drawn off since it keeps swelling
My PS says since I have very thin skin I will have to have several fat grafting.
I have lots of rippling , look like a Mylar balloon.
My exchange surgery is set for January 19th
Saw my general surgeon and first thing she said was I saved my life. We had always watched my left breast but they found five areas of ducal hyperplasia 's that seemed aggressive and a radial scar which I still don't understand.
But I am moving forward and glad it's done
I still tire very easy and have pain when stretching , seems to feel like bolts holding up my alloderm

Good luck with the next surgery. I hope that you feel better. I am glad that you decided to have the surgery that saved your life. Hugs.0 -
I have recently been diagnosed with ADH and ALH with inflammation in my R breast. I've already had a core needle biopsy and an excisional biopsy. My surgical oncologist had me do a genetic test. Waiting for the results. Then I'm scheduled to see him in three months for another diagnostic mammogram and MRI. I have just about decided to get the PBMX rather than have another surgical biopsy if it comes back up. I don't want to spend a lot of money getting mammograms, MRIs, and biopsies over multiple years

how long after your diagnosis of LCIS and ALH were you diagnosed with IDC

Hi Medic - Welcome to BCO. This thread is a bit dated so you might not get a lot of responses. I had a PBM for ALH / ADH and a surprise IDC was found. I think I’ve read where statically this happens in about 20% of the cases. My cancer WAS seen on an MRI but waseither passed or missed on excisional biopsy.

I had not had a mammogram in 3 years so my gynecologist ordered the routine mammogram which of course showed that I have dense breasts but also an abnormality. So I went and had the diagnostic mammogram (which they kept taking me back for additional mammogram scans) and ultrasound I was told I needed a stereotactic breast biopsy of my left breast. I went in 4 days later and had the biopsy in which they took 12 specimens. I was told I have ALH. My grandmother died of breast cancer after a very small tumor was found, also I’m Ashkenazi Jewish. I had a consultation with a NP in the surgical oncology 2 weeks ago, she simply said ok we’ll monitor you closely and do mammograms and MRI’s every 6 months and said ok I’ve called in your medication for you. So I asked her what medication since there hadn’t been any discussion at all about any and she said oh it’s called Tamoxifen, it’s 20mg, you take it daily for 5 years and left the room. Is this normal?

I don’t understand why doctors are not taking ALH seriously. My surgical oncologist considered mastectomy “over treatment” for ILC thought to be 2mm. Turned out to be FAR larger, lumpectomy didn’t get clear margins, it was over 10cm. I had ALH in the other breast found after I insisted on MRI. Radiologist wanted biopsy. MASTECTOMY. I’d rather wear prosthetics than struggle through treatment again, risking my life to keep my breasts. My suggestion is to, at the very least, have the ALH removed along with a good amount of surrounding tissue. The Tamoxifen could possibly prevent ALH from advancing, but it seems like an unnecessary gamble when surgical removal is an option. It’s also possible that it becomes resistant to the Tamoxifen. Did you have genetic testing? PLEASE advocate and follow your gut feelings. It’s pre-cancer but for some reason they don’t want to call it that. Wishing you the best. <3
