Lump in armpit.....
Hi everyone!!!! I am 25 and about a month ago I noticed a lump in my right armpit. Of course I am worried. I never really thought anything about it, but I can recall having a dull pain that feels like it is behind my right breast, if that makes sense. Am I just overreacting?

I agree, don't play around get this checked out ASAP. Don't want to scare you, but I'd run not walk to my nearest physician.

I agree with JBinOK that you should see a doctor soon. It is likely a cyst or something benign, but is best to have it checked. I had a number of benign lumps (cysts) when I was around your age, but always got them checked out ASAP to be sure. All the best. Please let us know what you find out.

I was thinking it was possibly a swollen lymph node...or hoping rather. I did call my doctor yesterday who is squeezing me in this afternoon to check it out.

Sooo, I went to my dr today who confirmed I do have a mass of some sort that is 3 cm by 2 cm and is the anxillary tail of my right breast. I am going to get a sonogram on Friday. Now I am worried.

The first hurdle is completed. The next will be the tests. Take lots of deep breaths. Its going to be okay. Your in someone's care now. People are looking out for you. Let them.

That's great that you went to the doctor and got the ball rolling. Friday is not far away. Hopefully, they will give you some results on Friday...you could ask for them anyway. Try not to worry too much. You may well have a fibroadenoma which is the most common breast tumour in women under 30. They can be fairly large. Take care and let us know how you are doing.

I saw the post here, and thought of asking some questions. Is it safe to have lumpy breasts? I have one right under my armpit on the left hand side. What happens is that I have been having it coming to one year soon. However, is due to ultrasound on this coming July. Is it safe to have this lump or lumpy breasts? Definately, can feel the shape and while feeling the lump, I feel painful, right from the inside tissue, is like rolling a very small ball around the armpit. Hope that i could have some feeds back for this question. Thanks.

you should have this checked out! Not to scare you, but I discovered my lump in my armpit, not in my breast and it was a tumor.
Don't wait until July, check it out ASAP! One year is far too long already!

Please make sure you get a biopsy! That's the ONLY way to determine if it's cancer or not. Ultrasound and mammograms are detection tools only. One year is too long to wait. It could save your life.

I had one cut out around my breast area. But, luckily, it wasn't cancer. More of like an infection. So, I thought that I might be having the same problem with this around my armpit area. Have anyone of you able to feel whether you have cancer or not? Or, must see the specialist in order to know about having cancer? I know its stupid for me to ask this, but, I really do not know much about cancer. Thanks all.

Over the last 10 years, I have had 6 lumps in my right breast and armpit area. Upon biopsy, only one that extended from the breast to the armpit was cancer, grade 2, stage IIA IDC. 5 were fibroadenoma. By ultrasound, they had similar morphology. Under MRI with contrast two had identical morphology! My cancer was caught at a very treatable stage. I have a friend with a similar story as mine who is Stage IVB with metastasis because she did not go for the biopsy, until she had back pain. Please just go for the biopsy and if it's not cancer at least you know! You cannot feel if you have cancer, unless you have a gift that I would like to patent or purchase. Breast cancer in women under 40 tends to be more aggressive if left undiagnosed, so PLEASE get it diagnosed ASAP.

A lump under your arm isn't necessarily breast cancer. I'd start with your GP. It could more easily be an enlarged lymph node from a virus, a bacterial infection (could be a skin infection, a cold, or mono, or eight million other possibilities). It is common to have pea sized enlarged lymph nodes on the body. I have four or five of them. My doctors have always said to worry if I suddenly have alot of them.
Apparently a lump under the breast CAN be breast cancer. It can also be a benign fatty tumor, which is usually easy enough to diagnose from the way it looks and feels. Or a cyst.
From my own current experience I wonder if for some bizarre reason doctors are currently doing too much worrying about women's enlarged lymph nodes under the arm. My doctors are all panicking about a pea-sized lymph node I've had for 30 YEARS. I think if it were cancer it would have done something by now. Technician told me the radiologist might have me back to do more testing just because it is "a lump". It's been there for 30 years keeps going in one ear and out the other.
Now I heard you say your lump has been there for a month, but I'd not panic just yet.

Villandra, a 30 year old lump that does not change in morphology is probably good, and unlikely to be cancer otherwise if it's cancer, hopefully it's slow growing. A 2 week lump that is changing, moving and growing is not a good thing! Getting a biopsy and appropriate tests done is not panicking, it's just prudent. A friend detected a lump at 34 years old, 8 years ago, she was told it was called fibrocyst by mammogram and she was told to relax! 3 years later, she had back pain, turns out she now had stage IV breast cancer with bone mets. She is now 5 years NED. Another friend at detected her lump at 27, was not diagnosed for 4 years and she died at 32 years old. Look cannot differentiate between cancer and benign lumps in young women who normally have denser breasts. Postmenopausal women is another story.
Joan just make sure you get the best doctors in your corner! Also do not panic just do the tests and hope for the best! By the way my fibroadenomas were not painful but the cancerous lump was uncomfortable and painful. My radiologist said that it was unlikely to be cancer because of the pain and morphology, but it was! Trust yourself and take care of your health.

I do not wish to alarm anyone, but the hard, pea-sized lump I found in the middle of my armpit was originally diagnosed as a sebaceous cyst or inflamed lymph node. When it was removed three months later because it had increased in size, the surgeon was "shocked" to read the pathology report of invasive carcinoma. I am now facing a second surgery and who-knows-what. My advice is to get any underarm lump checked out immediately. Also, if anyone else has experience with a primary tumor in their armpit, I'd appreciate hearing from you in the thread I started in the "Just Diagnosed" forum.

Hello everyone. I am 19 now and last year around this time I discovered I had a small lump in my armpit and of course I was worried so I went and got it checked many times. Once I even got an ultrasound where they said it was just a hard swollen lymph node. Now a year later it has gotten the size of a gumball and I can almost literally grab the thing. Sometimes the area around gets bruised and tender but not too much pain. This coming week I'll be finally be going to a new doctor for more options. I hope we get It tested because It has been bothering me for as long as i can remeber. My mom had Pre Cancerous cell in her breast when she was 20 years old and I hope I wasn't wrongly diagnosed last year. I understand infection and cysts, but my stomach is in knots because it's grown in size which scares me. Please tell me what you think no sugar coating this for me because I need to know what's going on ya know? Thank you all

If you have had it checked "many times" you must have been told what it was.
I won't "sugar coat" that I imagine something that has been checked many times in an 18-19 year old and apparently hasn't been concerning is probably still nothing serious. What have you been told it is? Why has it been checked "many times" and the issue not resolved

Not all enlarged lymph nodes under your arm are related to breast disease.
Make sure your doc checks out your nodes in other areas on physical exam as there are more common causes for this in your age group than breast cancer.
