hi everyone hope your all tucked up nice and warm at home.

I've been hit by a truck the last couple of days so am keeping a very low profile. Not sure if it's chemo reaction because it's only day 5 or whether it was coming off the steroids. Who knows not nice.

Had an appt. with the physio today through the pinc pilates.

    Take care

    Helen

Wow Helen , you're so busy despite doing chemo. No wonder you're tired!

You might want to take it more gently :) The steroid crash can be hard too.

Good on you tho, sounds like you're doing well.

I hope your managing to sleep with all those steroids KT, and are being kind to yourself before next week happens. We're with you. I got VIP'd as well. So thanks to whoever did that - I thought I was full of c**p!

Enjoy you last few days off Donna, you will be awesome. I can't wait to hear about your new job.

Take it easy Helen. I Christmas shopped up until my 3rd chemo then I crapped out. Just listen to your body. If you need to sleep then sleep - a lot of repairing goes on when you're asleep. I remember falling asleep in the early afternoon and woke up 18 hours later. Honestly, a bomb could've gone off and I wouldn't have known. I felt so much better after that sleep and my neutrophils came up then as well. That was the worst it got during chemo for me.

I have spent the last couple of days working (boring) and designing bookmarks for the Cancer Society. They are going to do another appeal and reuse my story. Whatever helps right?

I am still waiting for my Gynae appointment but I have a breast clinic appointment confirmed for the end of August ..... Let's see how they get my chest into a mammogram machine lol. In the meantime I am due again for another Zoladex on the 8th. Seems a bit pointless but I will do it.

Lots of HeartHeart to you all

thanks Nik and kt for your wisdom. I did groceries yesterday too and ended up in a chair while my 15 year old son did the work. Learnt the hard way.

Not a happy lady so will keep it short and hope everyone's treatments go well.

    Take care

imageHi everyone. So glad it's Friday I'm full of a head cold and looking forward too a couple of days off.

Just a little pic of our new foster kitten.

It's hailing here now. Hope everyone has a warm dry weekend

Just managed to catch up with the list. Sorry to hear your news KT - I hope they manage to zap the little buggers out of existence.

Aw, so cute Shazza :) Butter wouldn't melt but I bet he gets up to mischief too...

I hope you do have a good rest & get rid of that cold. It's so blustery & changeable today.

We had a rotten tree fall down in the garden. (And had to get an electrician out to fix the hot water cylinder that got its cables fried & died the other day- from the lightening storm last week)

Hi twofer. I hope you're going well. Thanks, I hope they zap them out of existence too ;) My radiation has been delayed to start on Tuesday now. I just want to get it over with.

Hooray it's Friday - have a good weekend

That is one cute kitten Shazza. It makes me want to get one - baby anythings are lovely. Not sure that Murphy the aging old lady cat and Stu the cute but a bit dim Shih Tzu would be as thrilled as I would be.

Heavy rain out here this afternoon, squally as well. I hope you get rid of that cold Shazza.

Hey Woody. I have your DVD on my desk to return to you, sorry I have been so slack!

    Have a happy weekend everyone.

Cute baby Shazza. I would love one but my old girl is such a bitch I'm sure she would kill it (I love her to bits) but she has a habit of clawing anyone who walks past and you can never trust her (even our Lab is terrified of her haha). Well the nerves are seriously building now for my new job tomorrow. I just want to get it over and done with, I'm sure I will be fine but I am just such a nervy person!. Take care everyone, stay warm and good luck for Tuesday KT, Donna xxx

    Hi girls and boys

I'm not yet diagnosed but was scanning the site and saw a Kiwi and Auzzie thread! Yay! I'm a Kiwi girl living in Nelson, currently playing the "lets figure out whats going on" game. Have a breast specialist who's well on the case. Was diagnosed after 2 US as having "nothing wrong" just "prominent fibroglandular tissue" ..which quickly lead to, hmmm lets do more tests when I revealed some pretty awesome looking dimpling on the right breast, chest and back pain etc.

I'm 29, a solo Mum to one boy and one extremely gorgeous puppy.

I'm not certain the results will be cancerous, but I'm also not certain they won't be either.

Have read a lot of your posts girls, you are amazing. Keep up the courage, you're inspiring x

    Hi Jesusgirl.

Welcome to our thread. Sorry you're going thru this, the not knowing exactly what is going on is hard. I hope your results can put your mind at ease, but if not we're here to go thru it with you.

How old is your son? He will be a good distraction as you wait for results. Keep us posted :)

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Pretty quiet here, tho my dd & her boyfriend were here. I've been putting my son to work as my chauffeur (he's on his learners licence) as I'm not allowed to drive anymore.

    Have a good week.

Hope the new job is awesome Donna, & that you enjoy your first day!

    HI Ladies,

Some of you I know some I havent had the pleasure of speaking to yet. While I went through chemo i completely forgot about this site and all the wonderful people on the page. I have been documenting my journey on a fb page https://www.facebook.com/whenthingswenttitsup/ trying to educate young women about whats been involved in my journey and to raise awareness about breast cancer in young women.

Chemo is all finished (yay) and even though I have had a partial mastectomy I have at this stage agreed to go ahead with a bilateral mastectomy/reconstruction as a preventative measure. Its been difficult because its such a difficult decision to make with so many opinions about lumpectomy/mastectomy etc.

I tested negative for genetics which is good but being 26 I am concerned about occurrence. Has anyone in this group had bilateral mastectomy/recon? Would love to talk to some ladies who have done it.

I am really reluctant to do radiation treatment especially being under 30. Its such a difficult time. I have pre op appointment at the hospital today but no date confirmed as yet for surgery so still have time.

I look forward to catching up with you all on here! Sorry I havent made more of an effort! xx

Hi Jesus_girl and welcome back Amber.

I hope tomorrow goes OK. I'll be thinking of you. That sucks that you're not allowed to drive now KT. At least you have your son to help you get around when your hubby isn't able to. Both my children have their learners and don't appear in any great hurry to progress to their restricted. Obviously the public transport is too easy, although it can be quite a haul on the bus for Ben to get up and see his girlfriend in Dairyflat.

The weekend was pretty boring here. My daughter went to "Men of Steel" with her workmates from the Cake Shop on Saturday night. It was the first show like that that she'd seen, an eye opener I am sure. They came here for pre show drinks before going into town. They were quite noisy so I can only imagine what they were like at the show. Definitely not my thing.

I hope you've had a great first day at work Donna, and that everyone else is managing to stay warm and dry.

Just had my MRI today, phew, glad that's over. The tech put the earplugs in for me and there was a slight improvement over last time in terms of noise. I didn't find it fun though! Now the horrible waiting time for results.

Hi Amber, nice to meet you. Great that you're educating other young women about BC. I was 40 when first diagnosed and felt young then, but 26 really is young for all this.

kt, best of wishes for tomorrow. Sorry that you're not allowed to drive. At least your son will get lots of practice. My 18 year old is on his learner's and seems to be quite a good driver. My 21 year old has his full licence now and drives a lot. Anyway have been thinking of you.

Donna, hope the new job's going well and that your new boss is much nicer than the old one!

    Bye, Michelle.

Wow 26 is super young! but LOVE LOVE LOVE the blog name, hehe tits up. Brilliant. I am off to read it!

Well I hope (selfishly I guess) that I just end up being a friendly, non cancer fighter friend on the web for you lovely ladies. Oh my boy is 9, he's absolutely fabulous and my best friend.

Waiting, waiting. August 1st Ultrasound can't come soon enough!

Fizz how's the new job going?

Hi Amber, Optimist, Niki, Woody and everyone else.

Welcome to the group Jesus Girl. Hope you get clear results.

I'm still sniffly but feeling much better this week. My daughter started her paramedic training yesterday and she's so excited. 3 days a week at Middlemore hospital and 1 day at AUTs Manukau campus.

    Have a great day everyone

I just wanted to post on here to say hi to my kiwi sisters! I am a kiwi (born in Dunedin) who is now living in the US (have american hubby and kids). Hard to be away from my mum and family during this time, but I have an amazing supportive community here and this is the right place for me to be right now. I get to NZ at least once a year, and am hoping to head back again in Feb for my mum's birthday. I'll always be a kiwi!! Sending you all lots of love and strength xxx

Hi josieg, nice to meet you. Thanks for the love :). I'm glad you're going well in the US

Thanks for the thoughts Shazza. I'm looking forward to getting this over & done with. Not looking forward to losing my hair again or the other side effects tho.

Fantastic your daughter has started her course already & is enjoying it so much! Love it. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better too.

Nice to see you again Amber. I hope your appt went well. Haven't had recon, so can't help you there.

Great your MRI is done Michelle. Now for the results, hope it's not too long.

Hope work was good Donna :)

    Have a good day all

I would've loved to be a paramedic Shazza. I know a lady who is one on the shore and I am in awe of her work stories. Much more interesting than mine!

Nice to meet you Joiseg. I am so pleased that you have support. My family don't live in Auckland, so I understand the need for friends (who become your family).

Michelle. Hoping for good results for the MRI. The wait sucks!

Can't help you with recon (although I am bilateral). You will make the right decision for you x

    KT, go well today x

Hi ladies everyone sounds pretty good at the moment. After 5 nights in hospital crook as a dog I'm nearly good too. Managed to get Neutropenia so have spent the last few days on Iv drips, heart monitors in isolation. Thank goodness have turned the corner. Obviously dreading round 2 on the 29th.

My daughter is 19 and has her full licence which has been a godsend as she has been able to take my sons out and about.

    Take care

    Helen

Hi Helen, really sorry that you've had to deal with this. Hopefully your doctors can slightly alter the chemo for you?

    Bye, Michelle.

Oh Helen, that's no fun. I'm glad you're on the mend. You'll have to take it a bit more gently next time (how many to go?). Lucky your dd has stepped to help :)

I've had 2 whole brain rad treatments now. A long day (3-4hours including driving) for a 5 minute zap. I'm just trying to take it easy so I don't get too fatigued. I already have headaches, hope they don't worsen, but it takes a while for se's to kick in. I asked about hair loss today & might get away with just thinning, so we'll see.

My son at least is getting lots of driving practice (& DH is keeping us company too).

I hope everyone else is well

I had my Gynae appointment on Thursday, and they did the Pipelle sample thing (bloody hell, it felt like I was in labour), then look my blood pressure straight afterwards. Of course it was through the roof. They took it 3 times (in the cramped waiting room with no privacy) and while it went down a bit it wasn't enough to pass the pre-med. So I will have to sort that out next week, as well as having an ultrasound. I really don't want to get stuck in the no-mans land of Middlemore Hospitals waiting list. Anyway, they are happy to remove my ovaries which is a good thing, so while I am worried about the downsides of having that, I can't carry on with ovarian suppression if it's not working (which it appears that it isn't).

KT, I hope this week wasn't too bad for you. Long long days though, so hopefully you are resting this weekend.

    Hi to everyone else.

Hi guys, I hope you are all doing okay. KT hope the headache is manageable, has it gone away now that it is the weekend and you won't have Radiotherapy? I have been thinking of you all but don't feel confident doing any private stuff at my new job - that will change no doubt haha! Nice to meet you new ladies too but sorry that you had to come on here. Well I started my new job and it wasn't without a bit of bad luck. I got an upset tummy on Sunday night and had it all week. My bosses office is right next to my toilet, which is a disabled toilet and the bloody door doesn't shut properly. Talk about embarrassing. I went through a whole can of air freshner spray on the first day and I know they can hear everything FML!!! Why does this sort of stuff always happen to me? Now I have to go to Aussie for a week of training and I am literally shitting myself. I have to hire a car and drive from my hotel to my new Head Office in Sydney daily. I haven't been overseas for 25 years. Sure I did live and drive in LA for a while but that wasn't without a few problems, like driving onto the freeway up an off ramp and nearly giving an old lady a heart attack. I am trying to be positive and I don't know why I am like this now. Is it because of what I have been through, or am I just seriously an old lady now at 55? Anyway sorry to rant and rave haha! I am trying to be positive and they are a lovely bunch of guys. Niki I had one of those Pipelle things, they bloody hurt don't they? Good to get those ovaries out though. Do you think I should get a sleeve for when I fly to Sydney? Niki I can't remember if you did or not? Sorry about my rambing guys. Hope you all have a nice, relaxing weekend and don't suffer too much with this storm we are supposed to get.

kt, really hope radiotherapy's going ok and will be helpful. Is pain medication helping with headaches?

Nikki what a pain (literally) to have to go through that. I think everyone's BP goes up a lot when we're stressed. Mine certainly has in hospital settings.

Donna, I was laughing reading your account of driving in LA and what happened during your first week at work. It must have been awful but you make it sound funny.

Hi to everyone else, hope chemo going ok Helen.

I have a 9 day wait for my MRI results which I think is far too long to wait. I have to go in for appointment with BS to get them.

By the way I had my 6 monthly check up with my oncologist yesterday, my usual one is on maternity leave. I saw Dr Naera Waters and she was really lovely if any of you in Auckland ever meet her.

  • nik1966
    nik1966 Member Posts: 402

Donna, it is probably a good idea to wear a sleeve just to be safe. I did. I have a couple if you want one. I will get it to you :-). They are black and not very obvious. I have a Navman too if it's any use to you. Sydney didn't look to bad to me on the driving front, a lot like Auckland.

I haven't seen Naera. Only Rosalie (who doesn't do breast anymore), Sheridan (lots of compassion) and Rita. Regarding those results,9 days! Far too long. Someone needs to talk to them about their timelines.

  • kt1966
    kt1966 Member Posts: 1,021

Ouch Nikki, that procedure sounded awful. Good you can get your ovaries out- who needs em now!

Donna, I'm glad work is good (apart from the tummy thing- hopefully settled now!) Sydney will be interesting ;) I'm sure you'll manage the driving, it's just the thought of it....Enjoy your well deserved weekend.

Michelle, Naera is lovely isn't she. She was pregnant last time I saw her, I guess she's had the baby by now. I hope that 9 days goes quickly for you.

I'm doing ok. Just taking it easy & pottering around the house. Not sleeping much (thanks dexamethasone). Headaches have lessened & panadol seems to be enough. The other pain meds I'm reluctant to take as they give me constipation (awful!) I'm glad to have 2 days off. I'm trying not to eat all the time! Once again thanks Dex!

Lucky I can wean off it in 2 or so weeks!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend :)

Hi Everyone. I hope you're enjoying your week. Helen I hope you're feeling alright. You'll be just over 1/2 way though now KT. I hope it's going ok.

Major fail on the blood pressure at my GP visit yesterday. After having perfect blood pressure up until a week ago it's gone all over the show (between 151/101 & 181/115). I have had to buy a monitor and my Doctor has started me on beta blockers and I had bloods taken yesterday (Ii'll hopefully get the results either today or tomorrow). I don't know what's going on. Donna, didn't you have similar problems before going on tamoxifen? I asked my GP if my BC medication could have anything to do with it and she thought a bit and said No. Her words were "after all you've been through Nikki I would hate you to have a stroke now. Joy.
