Thanks, Kerry. I have never thought of myself as one of those women who looked good bald. In fact, other than the dermatologist, you might be the first person to have even seen it.

I finish my last taxol treatment on 9/3 and I'm so excited! Has your hair started growing back?

Looking good Allison!

I am no you, but it's coming.

My belly has been all a mess. I thought Taxol was different. Still can't eat AND the tips of my fingers are numbing despite acupuncture. UGH! Sometimes I feel like I am not going to make it through this shit. Or that this will be my life...a lonely, uncomfortable, bald, yucky feeling life...
Maybe it's the full moon and the lack of nutrition and the meds. Well, there is always tomorrow. Thankfully,

I too have lost weight on Taxol. Also 9 out of 10 for poor appetite. Some days I can't keep down what I do eat.Had a follow-up today with my MO. My MO said it is still unknown how many more chemo's I will need. He will book a CT scan for early Sept. He also is treating me for chronic constipation with injections every other day but the med is on back order at the pharmacy. Maybe then I won't have so much nausea and vomiting. My oncology nurse said everyone reacts different and that seems to be the truth. I had to shave off the reset of my hair and I too was balding on top and above ears Allison. I was also sent for x-rays and my MO also suggested we zap the areas of most pain with Radiation while I am still doing chemo. He will go over x-rays with a Radioligist. No end in sight for me. This better be working.

Allison - your hair looks fantastic. I have so much gray coming in that I still look bald. I go commando around the house because it's just too hot here on the East coast. Yesterday I whipped off my do-rag while driving. Lots of stares at the road construction site. Lol.

Thanks, everyone. It really makes me feel better to see the hair.
Tryin: You are taking Tamoxifen WHILE on chemo? And Taxotere AND Taxol? I am sorry. I am confused. Ask your doctor if you can get Linzess for the constipation. You have to take a dose or 3 of Miralax with it but the stuff really works. I don't knot it is is available there or not.
HOW are all these people getting scans and my doctors all refuse them?
0 -
No Allison- I'm only getting Taxol right now. I just suck at a getting this computer stuff. The others should be moved to finished but I tried and finally gave up. Regarding the scans remember I'm in Canada and also the doctors told me they want to keep a close eye on my liver as that is the most fatal of all my cancers. I will ask my pharmacist about Linzess but I have never heard of it myself. She was calling the manufacturer of the prescribed drug to see if it can get here sooner.
Karab- We all have those days. Sunday and Monday I was the same. Two days of couldn't keep food down. Was begging for mercy. Yet yesterday was better. Hope you feeling better now too.
NinjiMary - Well who would expect a bald Niji? Just kidding. Been hot here too.
Tonya52 - The end is in site for you ... YaY!!!

I lost weight on Taxol initially and then started being like, "oh, look, I can eat whatever I want and not gain weight!" and then in the last month of it I gained about ten pounds. So don't do that!

molly I did the same thing and now I'm trying to get this 10 pounds off before I return to work first of sept. I wish now I would've been more careful. I've craved lots of different things that I normally don't crave on the taxol. Good luck on shedding the 10.

Yea Molly, I think ive been kinda doing that.... Like oh I'll stop at Trader Joes before chemo and get a "treat" for chemo day..... 25$ worth of chocolate later.... LOL That's gotta stop!!
Anyone really sore on their port side after chemo... at first it was just a day or so after but ive been noticing its sore on that side much longer now, like it kinda bugs me when I go to bed. Not severe pain but just that nasty soreness that I usually get on day 3. And it kinda bothers me around my throat sometimes at night too. I also have weird pains around my surgery scar too.

yes same hear on the strange pains. I noticed when I missed my Claritin it was worse. I take a melting tablet every morning and on seventh treatment tomorrow and praise God rarely ever have a pain. Sometimes I do have the pains bear the incisions and a strange pain at my throat but it never last long.

I have gained about 2 pounds back but I just can't seem to go above that. I am eating. I eat about 4 bites of dinner and want to stop but just keep forcing myself. I KNOW after my surgery, I will gain. I like where I am at. I look better but I won't have any foobs.

Leigh - yes, my port is always sore and tender these days. It always hurts if I sleep on it wrong or twist a certain way. Very much looking forward to having that thing OUT.
Ninja - that is me now - it's been so hot here I never wear my headscarf at home or in the car.
Allison, you are my hair idol!! I can't wait for more growth, especially on top. It almost looks like I have male pattern baldness.
I'm very fatigued today - anyone else feel like they've been hit by a train?

Pennys: My hair is definitely growing in on the sides and back first and it looks like male pattern baldness. In reading through the hair thread, it is not at all uncommon for it to grow in this way.

Leigh - my whole neck on my port side aches all the time. I hate that thing and I am on my second one. Just finished Taxol 6 but waiting around with the cold caps on my head. Just a few more hours to go.
One good piece of news i went to my surgeon yesterday and the tumor has shrunk from over to 2 cm long to just 5 mm long. Glad the chemo is at least working.

That's great, Mel! They can tell that from feeling you?
I WISH someone would tell me that. I went for a consult for MO #3 and he didn't even examine me.

Allison, My chemo buddy for my first 3 chemos had that male pattern baldness thing going on too. She finished on my AC #3. She finished rads yesterday and I can tell you it has all filled in and looks amazing. She has real hair and a real hairstyle and does not look post chemo-ish at all. I sooooo hope I look that good at that phase! You look exactly like she did then and I am sure you will look equally as fabulous in a few months.

My port never bothers me. It didn't even bother me when they had to access it without EMLA cream the other day. I guess I'm lucky on that one - woohoo!

I have never had port issues or pain either. Just one time they had trouble drawing blood, but that's it. They don't use any types of creams at my place either. The poke is quick and easy though.

KBeee - you don't use EMLA cream?? My cream didn't work one time and I literally screamed when she stabbed me in the chest - though in my defense I wasn't expecting to feel anything? I don't think I could use a port if it felt like that each time, I'd rather use a vein.

I guess I am just feeling generally worse than I have through Taxol..... not that its horrible or anything just noticing different stuff. For instance today I am really noticing the burnt mouth. Everything I have eaten today taste really salty too..... Oh they joys of SE's!
My port hasn't bothered me before... and I have done infusions without the crème... doesn't hurt that bad.

Leigh - taxol has been a different hard for me too. My mouth is burnt. I ate a peppermint yesterday and if felt like my mouth might catch on fire. Sun chips are too spicy! I now have cankles from some sort of swelling. I swear the neuropathy is creeping up my legs, but that's probably from the swelling of my legs. Food is no longer enjoyable. All I want is to taste a cold beer. I really wished they would have lowered my does at #10 or stopped all together. I've been looking forward to my last dose and being "normal". Now it seems "normal" is going to take a few weeks to come.

HA! I've been thinking even mildly spicy foods are TOO SPICY - is it because my moth is burnt?

My port has been sensitive lately too. I goop SO much emla cream on the port area an hour before yet I still kind of feel a pinch or more whenever they place the IV or whatever it's called. I used to feel absolutely nothing. Two weeks ago when the nurse did it, it hurt SO bad but she insisted I didn't put enough on. I might have accidentally cursed at her. Oops. It also hurt for like 20 mins after she did it.
And once in awhile, mainly when trying to sleep, I'll feel the port and it's just annoying. No pain just uncomfortable. Not sure if I've just lost 'fat' in that area or what. I can also feel the bumps of the port under my skin a LOT more than I used to. So who knows. Either way it's annoying!

I've been lurking here because I'll be doing weekly Taxol starting early September but I wanted to suggest that if your port is truly hurting or sore, please mention that to your doctor because you could have an infection. I've had my port accessed twice without Emla cream and the main thing I've noticed is that it totally depends on which nurse is behind the needle. I love all the nurses there but my port has only been accessed by two nurses and one of them is definitely better than the other at accessing it completely pain-free.
