Allison - I finished last Thursday! I still have SE. Neuropathy and swollen feet. I wore ballet flats yesterday and they became so tight that I've given up and am wearing flip-flops until everything subsides.
Kerry - I developed neuropathy after treatment #9-#10. My MO felt is was nothing important because I only had two treatments left (don't get me started). She didn't even bother to lower my dose either. I hope it goes away soon. Even my husband said he felt they could have skipped the final dose. I walk around the house like an old person at times, it's very frustrating.

I apologize because I can't ever remember if I asked this question to people but are you taking glutamine, Mary?

Congrats to the recently done and to the almost done Taxol. I had thrush and was treated with Nystatin. It is a swish and swallow medicine you take for 10 days. Pleasant taste of bananas. I agree it sounds like thrush but should have it checked for sure. The chemo nurse was the one who dx mine. They gave me a prescription Nystatin to take home.

Allison - No on the glutamine. I was taking it with my protein drink (it's built in) when I first started taxol, but then I quit working out and forgot all about it. Working out starts up again next week so I will be back on schedule with the glutamine. I could probably go to the gym and lift weights, but anything with my feet (treadmill/eliptical) has to wait.

You look great, Selmada!

Ninja: Get back on the glutamine NOW. And buy it at Whole Foods. Don't buy at GNC.

#10 today!! I'm a bit concerned bc the neuropathy really hit me last time.

#7 today - I haven't had any neuropathy yet but getting worried with the rest of you. I guess I better make a trip to Whole Foods. My MO is against taking anything but not sure I care.

Anyone else having really painful fingernails and toenails. For some reason this seems to be getting worse for me. Could hardly button my dress this morning. They are just really sore. Tennis shoes hurt my toenails last night too.... AHHHHHH... the fun never ends with this stuff!!!!!!!!
0 -
My fingertips were really sore the very last week of Taxol and it lasted a few weeks after the end. They are okay now, though. It will get better!

My finger and toenails hurt for about 1-2 weeks during weeks 8-9. 3 nails developed dark purple centers and I thought I would lose them, but the pain and discoloration subsided and they are growing nicely.0 -
Allison - I will go to whole foods or our natural foods store and get some. Whole foods is a bit of a hike for me. I stayed off all supplements during chemo. I hate GNC. They are always up in your face when you go there.

I haven't had many problems with nails but I know it can happen at anytime. Mine have been white but they are about 1/2 grown out. I assume it was from the AC.
I hope the glutamine helps, Mary.
Melb: Did the doc say why no supplements?
0 -
I had 1 of 12 taxols today (finished 4 sessions over 8 weeks of AC). Infusion went well, no reactions. I was pre dosed with solu-medrol, Pepcid, Benadryl, and Decadron, so I'm pretty sleepless tonight....I also used ice packs on my hands and feet to hopefully head off some neuropathy. My doctor recommended the B6 over the l-glutamine; not sure why.

trvler - she said they used to recommend the B6 but then had a patient who had very bad neuropathy with the b6. They say worse than if she didn't use it but who knows. They just don't feel like supplements have been tested well. They are pretty conservative though so I may or may not listen to them.

It was explained to me that many supplements are antioxidants and antioxidants protect your cells (healthy cells and cancer cells) so chemotherapy may not be as effective against cancer cells. My MO (and a close friend who is an RD and professor of Nutrition) advised no supplements other than Vitamin D, while in treatment. After treatment is over, that is the time to rebuild. B vitamins are also considered to be safe and not to interfere with chemo. I would let your MO know anything you are considering taking and if they say no, ask for the rationale so at least you have a good understanding of it.0 -
hi ladies, I'm new to this thread. I have finished my 4 A/C and today getting #3 taxol. I'm doing much better on the taxol! I did start to notice some neuropathy in my hands and feet, I'll let my MO know today. How is everyone doing the further they get into taxol? I heard sometimes your hair starts to grow back? I'm just glad I'm not nauseous and I don't have to get the nulesta shot.
Hope everyone is well

Welcome zzlady. Yes some of the ladies do get hair back (peach fuzz) while still taking Taxol. Glad to hear your doing well with it so far. Some of us do have some side effects. My chemo nurse told me everyone is different. Hope you continue to do well.

ZZlady: I am glad you are doing well on Taxol. My hair started coming in pretty strong around week 9. I just finished #11 on Tuesday. Also, ask your doctor about B6 and Glutamine for neuropathy. I take glutamine 1x a day and have had only tingling so far. I noticed a lot of people who are mentioning neuropathy lately are not taking these. But be careful where you buy if you do. GNC was in the new recently for selling supplements that either didn't contain the supplement or the amount that was supposed to be in it. I buy my glutamine at Whole Foods.

Hello, all -- I've just started dose-dense Taxol treatments (4 doses, one every two weeks). I didn't see a specific topic for DD Taxol, so I'm hoping I can join all you brave ladies here?
I'd already gone through dose-dense AC, where the main SE I experienced was fatigue. With Taxol, the main side effect I'm having now is pain, and a lot more than I thought it would be! I've been thinking of it as "popcorn pain", even though that makes it sound a lot more fun than it actually is! The pain just kind of jumps around, to wherever there's pressure on my skin, or a joint is bending. My oncologist had prescribed a limited supply of Tylenol + codeine, and it's reducing the pain to a dull roar, but not gone entirely.
My infusion was Monday, and the pain came on slowly yesterday (Wed), and is pretty intense today. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it resolve quickly? I'm hoping SO hard that it will start feling better soon!
Hoping everyone is doing well,
--Sherri, aka EnigmaticFox

Sitting for #8 right now.... Not feeling it today... Really wanna quit. I'm so tired of always feeling like crap. MO said to take it week by week and that's what I'm doing. I know I'll do all 12 but I'm just feeling like a 2 year old today.. I just wanna scream and throw myself on the floor saying I don't wanna. Lol!! This shit is getting way old and I want my life back!!!!!!

Leighrh, if it makes a difference, I've had 13 Taxols (seeing a BS in two weeks and will likely change after that). Everyone's different, but it might encourage you to know that after 8 doses or so, the Taxol got a lot easier. Especially, I found I wasn't as tired. The third day post chemo still is the worst for me (Sunday after Friday infusion), but I find that I have much more energy than I did in those first couple of months. But yeah, I know the feeling. Where is that old life? Good luck to you!

I know, I know. Leigh. Big hugs to you. But I promise you, it will go FAST now. It was like 8 was that number where it just started to fly. Hang in there.

thanks gals...
This week I guess has just been rough. I used to feel pretty good most days except Sunday. But now everyday is pretty much a bad day. I still push through but it becomes exhausting.
Bought a new wig today. Just can't handle this long one anymore. It's driving me insane. Plus with pretty much zero hair growth I need a new one since I'll prob be wearing it for a while!!!
Pity party of one??
0 -
I think pity party of quite a few. We all have these moments. Best to let them come, eh?, and acknowledge them. And then move on, however possible.
I also find a wig helps. I splurged on mine and am glad for having done so.

Leigh, I hate my long one, too. I was looking up how to wash and I saw a place in LA that had an awesome wig. I wish I could go there and get it.
What kind did you get?
0 -
it's just a shorter one. Not too short. But right at my neck Might as well start transitioning to short... The long one I have now I just wear up or in a braid everyday. I hate that I spent that $$.I would never go to a store and drop that much on 1 thing... That pisses me off

I know. My first one was $$ and if I could get that one in LA I saw, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Check out how pretty this one is:

On the subject of hair, can I say that it seems very unfair that one's underarm and leg hair is growing back just as one is losing one's eyebrows and lashes? Just saying...
Speaking of pity parties.
