Good morning. This morning I go for round 8. I have a question .. I feel so tired this morning is this the new normal until it's done? With the end in sight (only 4 more) and SE manageability tiredness isn't what I expected.

I'm having the nose problems too! It must be the Taxol, since I am not taking Herceptin. It's awful! I've also notice the back of my throat and inside of my cheeks are much more sensitive to certain things too...like minty toothpaste, carbonated beverages, etc. Not unbearable, just uncomfortable! I finished #3 yesterday.

I have started to take claratin during my taxol treatments. I also am getting acupuncture every week. How often do you take claratin ( I have finished my 3rd Taxol)

Do you take it every day or just around your treatment days?

    Thank you

Leee...My Taxol infusions were 3 weeks on and 1 week off. I have MBC. I was started on Taxol when my onco did a bone marrow biopsy and there were cancer cells in the marrow. I had a total of 15 infusions.

I was to have 4 rounds of DD Taxol. Every other week. When I didn’t do well with AC chemo, they moved me from 4 DD to 12 weekly Taxols.

Taxol #2 was yesterday and I too have started taking claritin to see if it helps with the bone/joint pain. I'm going to keep taking it every day until I'm completed with treatment unless it just doesn't help at all then I'll probably stop. I wouldn't mind trying acupuncture, I think I'll as my MO about it when I see her next week. I think my cancer center might offer it.

I had #3 Taxol yesterday with no problems. I don’t have to take the steroid tablets anymore which is good. I have 9 more Taxol infusions to go. I have the constantly runny nose also. I don’t think there is too much TMI because how else can we figure all this out.

I am usually tired, but I woke at 6am on Tuesday morning, didn’t go back to sleep until 11:30 last night. I was up a full 24 hours.

It’s going to take me awhile to figure out all of the ins & outs on here, but I plan to be doing a lot of reading

I did Taxol first then A/C. My last Taxol was November 20th. My nose and eyes still run like crazy. My nose some days fluid just runs out. I never asked about it, but it got worse when I losty eyelashes. I assumed it was because I lost all my hair, eyelashes so I assumed I lost all the nose hair and there was nothing to hold it back anymore. Maybe I am crazy but that was what I thought it was from.

Thanks for the replies! Mine is 2 weeks on/1 week off. I didn’t realize that until I got my infusion schedule. I had only seen 3 on/1 off.

I have #2 tomorrow. Just started experiencing what must be bone/muscle aches.

I also have the stuffy bloody nose thing. My MO said it's the taxol - I'm getting it weekly for 12 weeks (just had #11 yesterday - woo!). A humidifier does help a little. I have been taking claritin daily, but I also have a bunch of allergies. I have some joint pain that comes and goes, but no real bone pain. I had super runny eyes for about the first 3 taxols, then that seemed to get better. I did start using moisturizing eye drops around that time, as recommended by my doc. It seems counterintuitive but it seems to help.

Hello everyone, so i went for my scheduled 2nd cycle of TC regime this morning and was told at the consultation before the start of chemo that liver enzymes were 4 times higher than normal and they will hold on to the chemo atleast for 1 week. I have been asked to come back next Wed and depending upon the blood work at that time, they will make the decision as to what needs to be done.

Anyone else has gone through this? This is really demotivating for us, not only to deal with the uncertainitty but also delay in getting over with the treatment.

It is predicted to be -24 F on weds when I leave for the city for chemo. I will have to call the clinic and ask what the usual procedure is for such a situation. Would almost be better to go over there tues afternoon at -7 and them to put me up overnight. Just scared about being exposed to that kind of bitter cold.

Edit: Windchill -51. Definite no-go. Even if they say it'd be OK.

    Hello all!

When I was going through my treatment, I found it really helpful to get an update from someone who had completed treatment, so here is mine. My last Taxol was on March 9th and since then I've completed two surgeries and radiation. My hair started falling out after my second AC treatment, but my eyebrows didn't start falling out until my 3rd Taxol- I started getting hair on my head during Taxol, but the eyebrows were gone until the end. Since I finished treatment they have come back and my hair has been growing pretty steadily, but still curly (which is something I dreamed of as a kid so its a plus). What is super crazy is that hair has come back everywhere, but not under my armpits where it is just a couple of tiny patches (which I love) and I don't know if that is due to Taxol or surgery, but it is a definite plus!

I had slight neuropathy in bottoms of my feet for at least three months after finishing, but it has either resolved or else I don't notice it anymore. Other that my chest, I feel like I am mostly normal, but that may be that my brain has also adjusted to what the new normal is for me. I really was good about exercising during chemo (nothing dramatic- mostly just walking and riding a stationary bike) and I really do think that it, combined with getting frequent massages, really helped me get through treatment in pretty good physical and mental shape. I have days when my muscles feel sore and weak, but I can't tell if it is from chemo, my Arimidex, or just not being good about being a consistent exerciser. Again, I am doing frequent massage therapy sessions and I give it a lot of credit for feeling better physically and mentally. I can eat anything, and do, but I notice that flavors are muted and I really like salty foods because I can taste them better than other foods. I will share a warning that I disregarded, don't eat your favorite foods during treatment! I used to love dried seaweed snacks and I can't bring myself to eat it anymore (I know it probably sounds gross to many but it is tasty) because I ate it during one of my first treatment sessions and my brain just won't let me even think about eating it!

My main mantra during treatment was "just keep swimming" and I wish you all strength during this challenging time!

Believe it or not, for Taxol muscle/joint pain, for me exercise helped. After running a few times in the beginning the pain stopped, and it helped me sleep as well.

Here it is the 3rd weekend in a row that I have swollen face and hands and brain fog. and tired. Not sleep tired .. body tired. I really hate the brain fog things take so much longer to do. I feel so sluggish and like I'm mentally in outer space. My lips are also numb which feels really really weird. I feel like I want to quit my treatments because of how I feel right now but I also know I only have 4 more weeks of taxol left. I've had to go on breathing treatments because the taxol is making me feel breathless but that's probably because my RBC count is getting low and not enough oxygen being in my blood now....anemic!! CRAP!!

Why are me am I slowly killing my body to kill this damned cancer?? OMG I feel like crap and i really hate how i feel!! I just want to feel 'normal' right now and not have to say i feel 'chemo sick' to DH & DD so they understand I'm not sick sick. Chemo sick ... jeez says it all.

How are you all doing with these weird SE?

I have to schedule a meeting with my BS and the PS soon for my mastectomy and I'm so scared of that meeting. I'm not even sure how I want to do this next part... probably would be better if it wasn't so foggy in my little chemo brain.

Hello everyone! Been away for a while, just been busy. All is great with me! I do Herceptin and Taxol weekly! 4 down and 8 to go. The first day was the longest, about 3 hrs. Now I am down to about 2hrs. Knock on wood, I have had no side affects. Hair sheds, but it always does. Although today when I was putting curl creme in it, I had hair in my hand when I was done. Dr said I may shed and no lose. We shall see. If it falls out, it will grow back. Main thing is I’m doing great! I have started my expansions too, which is going great. I get the flat tire pumped up every other week . Started with 20cc, then 60cc, not sure how much this wk! Happy Sunday. Hope everyone is doing well

I go for Taxol #4 On Wednesday. My hair has started growing back (I lost it after my first AC treatment)/ During AC, in the 3 weeks in between treatments, I would get very fine hair growth, but then it would fall out by the next AC treatment. This time, the hair growth is definitely thicker, so I think it may be real hair! My question for those who lost hair from AC....Did your hair grow back for good with Taxol, or did it fall out again later in treatment??

EachDay - I noticed the hair growth also around Taxol #4. It never fell out again, so I believe you may rejoice! But I thought the hair is too feather-like, so I shaved it twice to a few mm lenght during Taxol. I thought it looked thicker without the weak tips

HopeBry—I’m following you on IG. You’re gorgeous! I was new to IG also when I started on this crap journey. My daughter tells me I have “such a mom Instagram account.” Well, yeah I totally do.

EachDay—I think you will keep that hair. I had a huge hair growth right after AC #4. I didn’t lose any during Taxol. I have an awful male pattern baldness hairline but it’s finally filling in. The leg hair has always been coming in hot.

JaBoo—did you just have surgery? How are you doing?

MoonGirlJess, yes, just a week ago. I do reasonably well, I would say. I am taking pain meds for the night, during the day it's manageable. My back is killing me, probably from the stretch binder I have to wear.

Hi - thought i'd introduce myself.  I finished up AC chemo last week and will be starting Taxol, once a week for 12 weeks, on Friday.  I appreciate all the advice and information in this thread - thanks!

    Welcome, kber!

I got a wig a week or so ago. At first I didn't like it, and thought the liner was the wrong size, so didn't use it. It was terribly uncomfortable. Yesterday I gave it another try, this time with the liner. It was much more comfortable, and did not irritate the tender bits of stubble. I was able to put glasses over "sideburns", and HA tubes over glasses, with an encouraging degree of comfort. I like it because it is so retro, the curls are marcelled.

I got McCall's 4116 several days ago, and made a delightful fleece cap from a piece I had gotten years ago and never used. It only took an hour or so to make. I had do adapt the instructions because it was fleeced on both sides, admirably thick. Another pattern is similar to what I have seen in the history of fashion, but haven't found a name for it yet. I'll have to go beyond Wikipedia.

If that liner for the wig was such a help, and the double-sided fleece is so nice, maybe I need to try to use some baby-blanket cotton batting for some attempts at using the cotton quilting fabric.

My daughter sent me three SOFT hats, with a bit of slouch in the back. I might try to construct some slouch stuffing. LOL.

Despite my background in psychology, my family background is in fabric arts. Stupid guidance counselor who thought home ec was a waste of brains for me.

I had a/c and have had 4 taxol out of 12. So far I am okay, I just get real tired at day 2 and 3 after taxol. (This seems to be getting more so after each treatment) I have not yet had any neuropathy, but my clinic offers acupuncture and I have that every time I go. I have heard that it really helps with preventing neuropathy. I am also taking claritin (not D) every day as well as B6. That is supposed to help with bone pain.

I've already lost my hair with the a/c but I don't feel any of my fuzzies leaving. I ve even heard that your hair could actually start coming back!

Yeah, the Taxol hasn't taken all my hair, just made my scalp terribly sensitive, and what was left of my hair terribly patchy. So I just shaved it. It apparently isn't as bad on the hair as A/C.

Someone gave ma a pound of sunflower seeds. I used my coffee grinder to turn them into a powder, great protein addition for smoothies. I still haven't tried turmeric, but I already take turmeric capsules. I have so may things to put into my smoothies, each one is different. Frozen spring mix salad greens, frozen mixed fruit, whey protein powder, ground walnuts and sunflower seeds, dry milk, orange juice, apple juice, Greek yogurt, tofu (I will need to freeze that as it spoils too quickly). With the cold weather I eat it slowly with a serving-spoon.

had my first Taxol yesterday. Technically it all went well - no issues or problems.

That said, I’m more tired than I was after AC. Less nauseas, but definitely more tired.

kber I'm glad it went well for you and welcome to the club...what a club lol

Tiired...it's unfortunately the one se that doesn't go away 8( and it will get to the point you always feel exhausted physically. Mentally I'm a LOT fogger than before taxol but I'm hoping it'll get better with time. But aside from those and the runny nose and eyes most other se have gone away.

@Vgmggroup I’m sorry you are having problems with your liver functions. Mine were elevated but not 4 times so they were able to continue my Taxol however, my ANC counts were too low and held my treatment for 1 week. This has occurred 4 times and I am anxious to complete my last 3. It took awhile before my liver functions were normal 2 weeks in a row. Best of luck
