Congrats on your special day, CourMatt!!

For those having problems sleeping after the steroid pre-med, I took Zofran for two days after tx specifically because it makes you sleepy. Really helped!

    My 2nd taxol is bagged!

My blood counts improved, high protein diet seems to be working.

MO said that I will likely need neupogen, as the treatment progresses... but hey! Not today! What do we say to our MOs from time to time?:)

The only SE so far: sleepiness and drowsiness from antihistamine that they gave as a premed. I need to google it, the name on the IV is rather unfamiliar. Oh, and my steroids dose was halved.

Re: 'fuzzy wrapped in cotton' brain - love the description, DogMomRunner! - my MO sad that this, as well as tiredness on day 3-4, are to be expected. Oh, well.. I better develop a habit of rereading my emails few times before sending them out. In my line of work, mistakes could be quite costly :)))

Hope you all are doing well! CourMatt, you will slay this last taxol today!

Congrats CourMatt! Here's to watching our hair grow :) I got the eyebrow tattoos on amazon, and they are very helpful. They are also waterproof and last a couple of days.

DogMomRunner-Yay for your counts being back up! Hope it was just a fluke, and you don't end up needing them every week.

Congrats Combattante for being done with no. 2. The only thing I heard of on IV was Benadryl. I was taking a generic form of Zrytec in pill form along with Pepcid instead of having the IV Benadryl. I haven't had too much brain fog, but what I can't do is do math in my head (and I am an accountant). I rely heavily on my spreadsheets and calculator!

Hope you are all doing well.

Notdefined: I get tavegyl, I googled it and it is a first generation antihistamine, known for its sedative SEs. I also get IV Zantac as a premed, together with dexamethasone.

Clearly, Europeans like to add their own touch to chemo protocol: epirubicin nicknamed 'strawberry syrup' in place of red devil adriamycin, old antihistamine drug... Lol.

Being serious, my MO is quite open to adjusting premeds if needed; if the SEs become to much, I will discuss with her during my next week appointment.

Hey everyone! I hope you are well.

I just found out that my carboplatin has been approved! I'm so happy. 😃

To those of you that stick around this thread to support those of us that are currently taking Taxol, thank you.

    I'm on for Friday.

notdefined-I am watching my hair to grow slowly and all while. Yours are also white and how long they return to our normal colour? No eyebrows or eyelashes yet and I do not know when they will grow back.

Coming Friday I will havethe Taxol 11th. Tiredness is heavier and my legs weigh a ton but I am close to finish line and the most important that we àll be clear from cancer once the chemo is over. For her2 positive it will be a longer journey with herceptin and hormonal therapy but we have to do what we can. Wishing all strength and minimal se.

to het2 positive ladies. Any one of you did genetic testing. My doc thinks it is not necessary because , first, her2 positive generally has not genetic phone and none of my family members ( until my grandmothers) did not have breast cancer.

She said that her2 negatives have more chance have genetics involved but I am sure here we have many her2 negatives with no family history. Anyway I did not want insist on genetic testing if she does not believe it is necessary. Very much tired from tests: just they scanned my heart to see if still I amok to go forward with chemo Andy herceptin.

Thanks jrominger. Hooray for Nat! I'm sure that she will be happy to get back to her normal diet.

Margun, I agree all of the tests are exhausting. I'm triple negative. I had 23 genes tested (all negative). They only took one vial of blood. Still another stick and waiting period, though. So much to process.

HappyAnyway, congrats on carboplatin being approved!

margun, I had genetic testing done and no mutations were found. I am adopted and have no history of my birth parents. I'm glad you're almost done with Taxol.

margun. Nat is triple negative and was genetically tested. She was BRCA2 Positive. She will have the DMX and ovaries/fallopian tubes removed. Gratefully our daughter is negative. Our son will be tested.

    Hi everyone!

HappyAnyway - Yay on the carboplatin! It's strange to be happy to get more chemo, but if it decreases recurrence or zaps the cancer cells, it's worth it. We are truly in an upside down world. :)

Margun - Her-2 positive here. Because there was only one aunt with BC and one uncle with cancer, they thought genetics were unlikely for me. So no genetic testing. Plus my insurance would have probably balked at paying formit

Thought I would share a picture of the nail bruising growing out. It was caused by AC. Whenever I would show the nurses during Taxol, they would just nod and say expect it to continue during Taxol. Only it didn't-thankfully.

Margun-Yay for reaching the finish line! I'm not sure when the normal hair color will start coming in. Mine is coming in white too, but not fast enough! I don't expect anything to be different until I am at least a week PFC. I was tested for the genes due to my triple negative status as well. Thankfully it was negative, but the geneticist say that they continue to research and it could be possible to have a gene that hasn't been correlated to BC yet. I believe 50 percent of those with the BRCA 1 gene end up being triple negative.

HappyAnyway-Yay for timely approval! Hope all goes well.

jrominger-glad she is almost done with the antibiotics. Hope everything goes smoothly next Monday.

Courmatt- Yay!!! Congratulations on finishing Taxol!!!

Dogmomrunner- glad to hear your intentions worked and brought your WBCs up to a good number!! Prayers that they won't be needed weekly like you mentioned!!

Happyanyway- yay that insurance covered your carboplatin!! Goodness the amount of money pharmaceuticals make on necessary medications!! I hope it does what it's supposed to!

Margun- Yay only 2 more treatments to go with taxol!! It took a little over a month after they fell out for eyelashes to come back and a little longer on the eye brows!!

I had genetic testing due to 6 different cases of cancer in my family tree and thankfully had no mutations, though they recommended having it repeated down the road for other possible mutations that did not show on this test that may be linked to cancers.

I hope everyone is having a good week!! Keep up the fight to kick cancer's ass!!!🥊🥊🥊

Margun--I did not have genetic testing in 2016 or 2018. My MO and RO thought there was probably not a genetic component (my mom had BC, but probably only DCIS, and no other cancer in my family). At a follow-up with my RO this past spring, she said I should think about it. I asked her why, since I'd already had my treatment. She said if I did have a genetic mutation, I could get on a closer follow-up schedule--alternating mammos and MRIs every six months rather than just an annual mammo. I was all in favor of that so I had it done. No genetic mutations, though.

Margun:. I am triple positive and both BS and Onco suggested genetic testing based on family history. Before I had my testing, I met with genetic counselor to go in-depth on history because not everyone will qualify. I let the genetic counselor decide. Fast forward....testing was done and only one test was inconclusive. A kinda peace of mind. My test is held for the future as we are just beginning to understand genetics. Ask him/her again..

Yay Happy Anyway, so glad the approval came through. notdefined, my nails look quite similar, but have grown out a bit more. I have minimal to no eyebrows and only a rare eyelash. Hair is growing SLOWLY with some darker showing near ears but no where near enough to go out uncovered (imo).

Margun, I did decide on genetic testing. At first I was annoyed that it was another appointment with another professional (geneticist). After I met her, I was glad I got tested. I am negative and I am happy to know that.

Had my last taxol today. Giving myself the shots worked on my WBC. The nurses all sang when I was done and I cried for an hour. I know the journey is far from over, surgery on 8/8, but I am glad to be done this part.

Hope everyone is doing well today

    Yes you will!

Have her eat a lot of protein. I did ice to prevent neuropathy (which I did not get). Have her drink a lot of water and start counting. It sounds like you are supportive which is a big help! Keep fighting

Giving myself the shots was nerve racking, but I did it and I guess they worked. I guess we do what we have to when we have to. They did let me treat today and then all the nurses sang to be because it was my last treatment...and then I cried for an hour like a baby. What a crazy year! Now surgery..

    Congrats Laurencl!

Loiswb-how are you feeling? I am almost a week out from PFC, and I continue to feel the same fatigue. I am hoping that after 2 weeks I start to feel myself. My fingertips feel like they have glue on them, but not too bad of neuropathy. I am hoping that icing made it less than it would have been.

jrominger-it feels so long at the beginning, but it does go by fast. I gave myself mini celebrations when I was at the half way mark, then when I only had a quarter to go, and then it was only 2 more. I just kept counting those weeks, and then days.

Laurencl, CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm so happy for you this part of your journey is over. May blessings be upon you for a successful surgery and recovery.

I have Taxol #2 tomorrow. The first one was very very manageable! I pray it continues. Jrominger- my thoughts will be with you and Nat as you face #1 on Monday. I hope she has an easy a time as I found it to be. The only issue I really had was that weird heartburn/acid reflux feeling- but not, and some bone pain in my hip bone. I started taking Claritin and the pain subsided.

notdefined- I love the idea of giving myself mini-celebrations along the way! I'll be at the halfway point of total treatment on August 2... I should get planning. :)

palmetto. Thank you for thinking of Nat. We are a little nervous for Monday’s first Taxol. We hope it will be as uneventful as your experience. We will keep in mind the Claritin. Did u do anything for the acid reflux? Thanks

Happyanyway. Praying for a successful carboplatin day tomorrow!!! Keep us posted.

    Laurencil: congratulations on finishing chemo!

    Palmetto: good luck tomorrow!

I had my 2nd taxol this Tuesday and so far it has been really OK. The only complaint so far is energy being on a low side this afternoon.

HappyAnyway: you will have your 1st carbo tomorrow, right? Pray all goes well, please keep us posted!

Jrominger: I will be thinking about Nat on Monday and praying for no SEs.

    Sending positive thoughts to all!
