Traveltext you got it. Eric was a wonderful young man with a tremendous family orientation. He had a thread. Not sure how it could be pulled up.All our stories suck, but his particularly hurt b/c he was responsible about seeking care and was blown off for about 10 years.

Sad about Eric. To keep seeing doctors and being blown off. Horrible.
Doctors don't expect to see it in men,, or in younger women. How many women on here under 40 with BC? And they are blown off cuz they are "too young" to start having mammograms,, it's just a cyst, blah blah blah.
I think that if they want to spread "awareness",, they need to get the message out there that BC doesn't just happen to over age 50 women. Both sexes,, all ages,,, SUCKS!!!

Ladies - There is a social media campaign today for metastatic breast cancer awareness. If you use Facebook or Twitter you can use the hashtag #BeyondTheBreast. (I also like #PinkIsNotACure and use them together).

Watching Ellen today with the comic, Tig Notaro, which I recorded last week. She is the comic that talked about her breast cancer on stage and bared her chest. On the show today they displayed only a partial photo of her performing, basically only her shoulders. So, if she has no breasts, is it porno to show a bare chest.
We have to be brazen and get real out here. Without these sights, everyone will continue to believe it's all glossed over.

so true..I was wondering that myself last night. Tigs' doc is amazing, and as someone who's a flattie I do wonder what the deal is. We have HBO so I can see it as it was performed but I really was wondering what's the criteria for "decency" and if showing breasts is a big deal why is the place where they used to be but are no more still taboo???

Bleep. I just found out that Delta's big on The Pinkness of Breast Cancer Awareness....and I'll be flying them in October. Don't worry--I won't say anything to the poor flight attendants if they're stuck wearing pink.
How's the fund raising rate, in terms of reputabiity?

What percentage of the funds raised through Delta's campaign for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation) will be spent on the stated purpose (breast cancer research) and what on administration? What aspects of breast cancer is the foundation researching? Have the researchers made progress toward their stated goals?

This links to a Delta Corporation giving page. The donation only to 501c3 charities. They are partnered by contractual arrangement. The breast cancer organization they give too is Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The American Cancer Society. No stated amount is designated. No history of amount given. No state requirement of use of funds.

So probably not the worst arrangement out there--at least they're giving actual money to actual legitimate agencies--but I'll keep looking, starting with the linked page. (There's more in Delta's web site, and may be some on the BCRF and ACS sites.)

Thanks: that does answer a good many of my questions. Good organization? possibly, though that would depend in part on how closely they were affiliated with the Estee Lauder company. Not just in terms of being associated with (possibly) carcinogenic products, but whether they are in any way influenced by the company.

A curious proposition. Is a product that contains known carcinogens not by definition a carcinogenic product?
It may be not necessarily a "cancer causing" product.
I think most of the big cosmetics companies make their quarterly numbers by employing that distinction. Not sure I like that.

Depends on whether you're a corporate lawyer, or a consumer. (the 'possibly' in this case is because I'm not sure if they've reformulated their products to address the issue. But I'm betting not.)

check out EWG's site skindeep. They update for new formulations. They mostly haven't (reformulated)
Over 60,000 products independently evaluated. I don't mean to sound snarky. I'm just pissed. Pinktober really pisses me off. Sorry. I did find a good sunscreen using their info.

My hubby is doing some consulting work for Estee Lauder. I only use cosmetics from my dermatologists office. I doubt they're perfect but they are closer than what you buy in a store. Inconvenient as hell.

I love the Kiss My Pink... shirt. I want one. Alima Pure cosmetics are very good. A little pricey, but they work well. I wore EL's Beautiful perfume for years. I miss it, but I can't bring myself to wear it. It's much harder to find perfume than make-up, IMHO. I run everything I use through EWG. And I make my own soap and lotion now. It's a pain, but better than the alternative.

Hi ladies haven't been here for awhile but do read. Thought you would like to see one of our BC research tees. Gets great comments because you have to explain what it means. All proceeds went to research. There were 1000 shirts and you paid the amount of the number on your shirt.
