What it sounds like to me is that they feel that as a company, since they are raising a good amount of money towards the cause, they think that gives them the right to frame breast cancer awareness in whatever terms they chose, regardless ifit is sexist, insensitive and offensive. You know, in today's world, it is a shame that they cannot be more receptive to those they are hoping to help to make improvements in their approach

So I think if I were you, Jackie, I would respond and ask her if she feels the message should be to tweet for boobies or to tweet to save lives? Ask her if the message is to objectify women, or is their objective to help educate women about breast cancer though their donations and effectively take actions towards a cure, or are they simply seeking to look hip and cool to a younger generation by using the word boobies when trying to raise awareness about breast cancer, a harsh and for some, a fatal disease?

thank you Divine- we will share notes once again. You have lifted my spirits.
Will report back.

here's what I sent: apologies to the DivineMsM for the blatant plagiarism. I'm so disheartened today this was the best I could do:
Dear Molly:
Thank you for taking the time to respond. While I appreciate your fundraising efforts, I do wish you would ask yourselves the following questions: do you feel the message should be to tweet for boobies or to tweet to save lives? Is your message to objectify women, or is your objective to help educate women about breast cancer through yourdonations and effectively take actions towards a cure?
Or, are you simply seeking to look hip and cool to a younger generation by using the word boobies when trying to raise awareness about breast cancer, a harsh and for some, a fatal disease?
I would very much appreciate you giving this consideration. And I'm glad to see your donations tab goes to NBCF, not Komen, as Komen is now rated only 2 out of 4 stars by charitynavigator.org. I feel they (Komen) have long since lost their way. They say they are "for a cure" but very little of their fundraising makes it to research for a cure. I no longer believe they have breast cancer patients' interests as their first priority.
And as far as awareness, I think we are all pretty well aware by now.
Thank you for your time.
Katy

Just an FYI, Flaxaseed and fatty fish are high in Omega 3. Omega 3-6-9 are essential fatty acids. Essential b/c we have to obtain them from our diet and we need them. To work right they have to be in balance. I forget the ratio. Two books. "Omega3" by Rudin is a very basic primer. "Fats the heals, Fats that Kill" by Udo Irasmus is what I call the bible. He's a PhD. If you choose to read the book, please, start with the forward as he explains how to read it. The first chapter is all biochemistry. He explains in the forward why he did it this way. As he explains what chapters to read based on your particular interest.
Our modern diet is very heavy in Omega6. Say about 30 prostaglandins are made from Omega 6. Half good, half bad. Omega3 is the cavalry that rushes over the hill to battle the negative affects/effects of Omega6. I thought my self very clever when reading his book that I had this thought about the cavalry. Turned the page and they're was an illustration about the cavalry.
So, skipping supplements may be in your interest. A diet difficient in balanced Omega's kills

Glennie, back a few pages my comment about PETA was NOT to support them, but they might be useful in finding out who uses animals for testing.
0 -
I understood that Sas,,, but I had to make a comment about not supporting them,, anytime they are mentioned.
And is Rudin saying to skip the fish oil supplements? Despite that our typical diet is heavy in Omega-6's?

Hi, Glennie, No Rudin is way old in the publishing thing-----the reason I think he is important is he describes the necessity of Omega3....................DBF hom e gotta go

Divine,
I have not heard from them at all! The tweet for boobs remark that refers to "fun bags" makes me actually wonder if they're writing those tweets themselves. I also think that in that case some of these are being written by male employees of the agency doing this as I have never ever ever... And believe me at get around... Refer to their breasts as "fun bags" I have only ever heard that term used by men.

fun bags? are you friggin' kidding me?

Sadly, I noticed today on my FB page, it says that the 'go without a bra today to support breast cancer' is trending. Borrowing from timeforacure's letter to the editor, I posted the following on many sites that were promoting the no bra thing:
October 13 is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
People do not die from early stage breast cancer; they die from metastatic breast cancer, cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. (40,000 women in the U.S. die from mbc every year). Those with metastatic breast cancer do not need awareness, they need a cure. Yet only 7% of the billions invested in breast cancer research is on metastatic focused research. No wonder there is no cure. Please support research for a cure and not simply awareness.
Now I have to say, the majority of people I noticed giving the no bra thing a big 'hell yeah' were men. A huge case of arrested development. One idiot woman, tho, responded saying, 'but there is a cure...cannabais oil". So we're dealing with all manner of unitelligence and ignorance. I have to believe many people get the message that it's not about braless-ness, it's about a cure. I had many likes on my post as well, so there are those who understand and get the message

I just saw the No Bra day thing on FB and if you clicked on it it had soft porn pics of boobs. So depressing

Lots of good work happening on this thread and there's still two weeks of Pinktober fun to go
My story about males with BC was run in the Australian Financial Review today.
There are three parts to the article.
Book Review.
Blue on the pink.
What to look for.

Traveltext, thanks for posting the links to the articles. It is interesting to hear your side of the story. I think a blue dot on the pink ribbon would be a good idea. And the sword story is just perfect

Well guys, I heard from Pink Ribbon produce and they're changing their hashtag from Tweet for Boobs to What's On Your Plate???? I guess that's better than funbags!

well done Trvltxt!
Sula, Divine and all: I had additional correspondence from the pink produce people. Here is her last letter. I just replied with a simple thank you. Divine, thanks again for letting me plagiarize.
Dear Katy,
Our intention is not objectify women in any way and appreciate you pointing out how the #tweetforboobs hashtag may appear to do so. We of course want to make sure that our messaging emphasizes our true goal of raising awareness and supporting the research done by the NBCF. I just received confirmation from our web developer that the hashtag has been removed from pinkribbonproduce.org and has been replaced with #whatsonyourplate (the primary hashtag that we have been using for this campaign).
If you have any other questions, please let me know. We offer our sincere best wishes in your fight against breast cancer and again apologize for any insensitivity in the previous messaging of our campaign.
Best,
Molly

I bought a few things at JC Penney today, and the clerk asked me if I would like to "round up" my purchase amount to donate to breast cancer research. I asked her where the money would be going, and she said that it all goes to their corporate office at JCP. Then they distribute it. She couldn't tell me the names of any of the charities though, so I said no thanks. I told her that I'm a BC patient and I like to know where the money is going. She was very understanding, but I probably should send an email to their corporate office to tell them why I declined.

Janet have some fun. Call the corporate headquarters. Ask for the CEO's office. You will get through at least to the secretary/administrative assistant. Define it just the way you did here. Then let us know . Also, let them know you are on a breast cancer discussion board. And that the members are waiting for an answer. Plus let them know that the discussion board reaches around the world.

That's good news JackBirdie....but they are still following me on Twitter! Love it....

Jackie, I simply love that our respectful efforts got them to reevaluate their approach and change that hashtag!
Janet, would love to hear what Penneys has to say. These companies, especially the big ones like them, need to realize they must be very transparent about their fundraising and where they send the money. In fact, they should WANT to be that way. No more of this vague, implied idea that those dollars are gonna be floating out there in lala land doing someone some good. I mean, it just doesn't work that way

Today I went to the post office's website to check a tracking number and saw this! " Purchase of this stamp supports the Breast Cancer Research work of the National Institutes of Health and the Medical Research Program of the Department of Defense."
I didn't know the Army was working on breast cancer research, did you?! Click here to read...
