Had "savi catherter" placed today and while it was uncomfortable it was not what I would consider real painful. Worst part was lidocaine injections and even that was tolerable. Start rads tomorrow and looking forward to next Monday when cath is removed. Hugs to all and thank you for your support. Not here by choice but so glad to have here to be. It helps to have others to share this journey with.

    Hi all-

I had a lumpectomy with re-excision for ILC.  Sentinel node biopsy (surgeon actually removed a few more nodes) all clean!! Tomorrow I see the oncologist and I am scared.  The BS dropped a bomb on me at my last appointment. We had been talking radiation only if nodes were clean, now she says the oncologist may suggest chemo.  I know I will do what I have to-just don't like it.

Bikergirl: Just take one step at a time. That's all any of us can do!

My margins were clean the day of surgery and then the next week the detailed pathology report said micromets in one node. My onco score was 21 so I decided to do chemo.  It was hard but looking back I am certain I made the right decision to do all that I can to fight this.  Look into Penguin Cold Caps, there is a thread here.  I used them for chemo and kept most of my hair.  Some have better luck then others but it was expensive and you have to be committed to it.  Good luck.

Thank you beautiful friends. I was reading your messages while waiting in the doctor's office.

Results from re-excision are as follows.

Margins not clear. Cancer at the skin and chest wall. STILL not invasive.  There is no more tissue that can be taken, so radiation is the next step. I am being assigned an MO and RO. Will know more after I meet with them.  It will be awhile as we leave for Omaha next week.

I am surprised, but doing okay. My husband is being amazing and that helps.

Steph--may God bless and keep you on Thursday. HUGS! Bikergirl...hugs....Cindy...hugs!

    Hugs everyone!

    XOXOXOX

    Laurie,

I am sure your results are a big disappointment!!!Cry

I hope you are as lucky as I was to get a great MO/RO team.  Have a wonderful trip to Omaha, (we live about 120 miles SW of there.)  Hope you can avoid some of Nebraksas famous thunderstorms.

If it is okay, I would like to add your name to my prayer list, that your medical team will do what is necessary and that you will be able to get through the treatments with minimal effects.

Keep your chin up and please keep us updated on your progress.

(((Laurie))) - thankful that you have such a kind and caring BS, but today's news is so difficult.

There are no words...but there is always hope. Trusting your RO/MO team will provide the best possible care and are on top of your treatment.

Go have fun watching your son play ball! Take pics, record some short little videos to iPad to lift your spirit, and soak in all the love. LOL:)

The best thing I did was take a 4 week vacation between lx and rads to recoup and renew:)

You will be fine! We are all in your pockets (((squeeze))) and you're in our prayers brave warrior!

    Hugs to you and hubby

    Oh my dear friends,

Your notes bring me such happieness and joy!

Vickie-I would be honored to be on your prayer list! What a thoughtful and wonderful thing to do for me! The kindness you exhude is amazing. :)

Miss Cindy-I LOVE your new profile picture! You look beautiful! And to you I also say thank you for your amazing words of support as well.

Steph, Shane, slv, elk, Skittle and all the the beautiful rest:  I am doing well. I am working on trying to jump the referrals ahead quickly so I can get in to see the MO/RO prior to Wednesday. That will be a feat in itself! Haha....but it can't hurt to try.  My husband and son just left for Utah again (baseball tourney) and so I have the next 2 days to myself with total quiet. I should be able to get a lot of writing and such done.  I also have an online camera class that I need to take before Omaha, so I get the best use out of my camera. :)  I am looking forward to the peace and reflection. My daughter Paige is coming over tomorrow to watch scary movies with me and I am really looking forward to that as well. I was careful to time it with making sure that we watched them the same day my husband was coming home so I wouldn't have to sleep alone after watching them! Hahahaha... I love them, but I get terrified at night and I need someone to be sleeping with me. I am not used to being alone in the house at night and the older I have gotten, the more scared I have become. Last week when the boys when to Utah, I locked my bedroom door and kept the TV on ALL night!  What a baby I am!  Tonight I may let my Shih-zhu "Gary" sleep in bed with me too. :)

Cindy, I LOVE my iPad and practically live on it! Do all of you have a tablet or pad that you enjoy?  It brings me such entertainment in all of these down days.

What do all of you have planned for the weekend? How are all of you doing in your journeys? I think about all of you every single day. I pray for all of us.

    Love you all,

    XOXOXOXO

    Laurie

Hahaha Miss Cindy...I wish I knew how to post pictures on here. I would post the picture of me in my PJ's hugging a pillow from fear while watching the scary movies with my daughter! LOL. We had a great time and I wasn't scared to go to bed because my husband was home from Utah. :)   I heard that my son pitched amazing and they won both games. That made me SO happy.  He also bought a pink arm sleeve to wear when he pitches and one of the boys gave him a pink glove!  It is in honor of ALL of us!  :)

Wishing you all a blessed Father's Day today. My daddy is in Heaven, but we are taking my husband to the biggest and fanciest buffet in Vegas today.  I am going to try to dress up a bit as I have been in PJ's for three weeks.  ;)

    Love to you all...

    XOXOXOXO

Where did you go for your intraop (IORT) therapy/lumpectomy?

  • schoolmom

Question:  I am finished with chemo and radiation and started my hormone blocking therapy in March.  Is it too late to deal with scar tissue almost 9 months after the surgery?  I read a little online and it said you get better results before 3 months post surgery.  Any ideas or treatments anyone has used with benefits.  My scar tissue is below the nipple and tender to the touch and about 1/2 inch to 3/4 across.  Hard to massage it because it moves around.  Thanks for any info.

Hi Schoolmom - I've been using mederma for scars off and on in this process. I apply at night and my scars are fading:) $$$ but it's working for me.

School mom, it's never too late. I would suggest that you follow up with your surgeon. Is the scar tissue on the surface, or under the skin?

  • schoolmom
    schoolmom Member Posts: 327

Not concerned about the scar, but the scar tissue formed inside the breast.  FYI just got the results back on my bloodwork and followup CT scan.  3 mos after final radiation and 5 months after final chemo..............all clear , everything good.  YEAH!!!!!!!!!!  My onc. still will not remove port from chemo until the results of the next CT in 3 mos.  Bummer.

Schoolmom: The only thing I've heard of is massage. Male sure you use lots of lotion: not only will the scar not move as much, but it will be much gentler to the skin, because you aren't moving the skin around, only the scar tissue. FYI: I asked about the whether the scar was on the skin or under because of different treatments. When I had thyroid surgery several years ago, they had to reexicise the scar because it wouldn't stop growing. It was about the size of an earthworm when they removed it.
