SaugaGirl,I suspect your nerves are all messed up. While I didn't have "zingers" from my lumpy or SLN incisions, I sure as hell had them with kidney surgery I had 25 years ago. Are the pains rather random or constant? Random is nerves, constant would likely be something else I'd guess (of course, I don't "know").
I'm rather confused. You weren't diagnosed with cancer? Or they are finalizing the diagnosis? Or are they running an Oncotype? If you have a diagnosis (even tho' it may change) already, you might want to make it public. That does help with any suggestions and comments we may have for you.
Take it easy and try not to overdo things. If you had a SNLB make sure you do your exercises.
HUGS!!!

Hi PontiacPeggy,
No, I haven't been diagnosed as yet. BS told me he was doing a lumpectomy on my left breast. He was taking out at least one lump and a handful of tissue to test for cancer. Originally, U/S said I have three masses suspicious for papillomatosis or DCIS. and cortical thickening of the lymph node in left axilla. Not to rule out malignancy. The proper term I think should be excisional biopsy since I haven't been diagnosed with cancer. But surgeon wrote down lumpectomy, hence me posting here. I apologize if I'm not supposed to be posting here
The pain I'm getting is random and it comes on sharp, it stings and lasts one-two seconds. But right now at this current moment, the pain has lasted about a minute. I'm also getting upper back pain that comes and goes since the lumpectomy.
Thanks for responding to my posts.

SaugaGirl, you're definitely in the right place and we're glad to have you! I did not mean to imply you weren't. I was just confused, that's all. After finding something suspicious on my mammogram and U/S, the radiologist did a core biopsy to nail down the diagnosis. I think that is rather common here. Way back in 1968, I had a cyst removed surgically and it was tested for cancer (which hadn't occurred to me), no mammo or anything else. Just had a sore spot that was very annoying.
When do you get your pathology report? You must be on pins and needles. I sure would be.
To me, it sounds like your nerves are just wildly shooting off. Surgery can do that. They normally go away - eventually (never soon enough). If they stay bothersome, do bring it up to your BS and perhaps they can tell you what might help besides time.
HUGS!!!

saugagirl....I had shooting pains in my breast and numbness in my upper back for quite so time after my lumpectomy. The nerves have been cut so the zingers are the nervestrying to heal. I think what your feeling is pretty normal. Hope your path reports comes back with good results.

Thanks Nash54 and Pontiac Peggy.
Pontiac Peggy - oh no don't feel bad. All this and waiting for the results is getting me a little anxious. I don't get to see the BS until June 23rd for the pathology results plus the biopsy I'm doing tomorrow of the dominant lymph node in my left axilla (as I have a lump there and BS didn't find it necessary to do proper breast exam) before I was on the operating table.
Thanks for your advice i really appreciate it!

SaugaGirl, what a rough time you're having. Too bad everything couldn't have been done at one time. I take it you're not real thrilled about that (or the surgeon for not checking). Well, at least it will get done and you'll have answers. Waiting is terrible. Give me answers! You are entitled to be anxious - all of us have been. I'll be dancing in your pocket tomorrow - hope I'm not too distracting
Sending really positive vibes for good results.
HUGS!

I have had tons of zingers too, which have mostly subsided. My surgeon said it is the nerves trying to reconnect. The body is an amazing thing, trying to repair itself.

After I had my LX I also had those "zinger" nerve pains. My RO said it is caused by the nerves healing after being disturbed during the surgery. It took some time (I don't remember how long) for them to stop.

Well, I'm not new to surgery but this is the first time I've felt zingers.
Pontiac Peggy -I can feel the dancing, Lol. Yes, I've been frustrated by this BS even to the point of switching surgeons. But then I changed my mind because I didn't want to change surgery dates either. That would mean more waiting. At least he agreed to send to do this biopsy. I'll let you know how it goes tonight. Appointment is at 2:45 today

Glad you can feel me, SaugaGirl! Right now I'm dancing Zorba the Greek I can see why you wouldn't want to screw up your biopsy date but geez. Hopefully, this will take care of any surgery you might need and you can cross him out of your life! Please do let me know how it goes. I'll be thinking of you! DANCING!!!
HUGS!

saugagirl, Funny you mention this. I have not experienced this but the RN at my radiation appt. today said I may feel "zingers' for maybe up to a year. I thought she was talking more about the axilla but maybe not. I would call your BS to be sure.
Also, Good news. I spent the weekend dedicated to keeping heat on my seroma every 2 hours and it is just about gone!!. My RO was pleasantly surprised.
Feel so much better

PatRN10, that IS good news! Bet you're extremely happy to have it so diminished. Time for a happy dance?

Hi Ladies,

Midgue, Make sure you use your "good" arm. That should help. It's hard to remember but you'll be happier not using your bad arm for heavy work for awhile or maybe forever. And do your stretching exercises for your bad arm! I'm awfully sorry you're miserable - it sucks!
HUGS!!!

Thanks, Peggy! I should say I got a nice welcome back from lots of people yesterday Tomorrow will be better and I have my appointment with the MO, who, I hope, will send me off to the RO shortly thereafter. I definitely need more time to heal before I start the next phase.

Hi lovely ladies,
Well, the biopsy of my lymph node in my left axilla went well. No real pain except for the local freezing that they did. The radiologist asked why the surgeon didn't take the lump out before and the U/S tech kept asking me the same thing and two had to explain to them that the surgeon didn't even want to look at my armpit and he didn't even do a proper breast exam. I don't know if they see something there (of course the lump ) or if they can tell it's malignant and that's why they kept asking me.
So, I'll get these results the same time as my pathology results. So long a wait - I don't get to see the BS until June 23rd. Now I'm getting nervous.
Thanks for listening!

Hi ladies,
I have a question.... I am 17 days post op from LX and SNB, and my right breast has a lot of faint bruising, which hasn't been there before. I also have a line down the side of my breast on the same side as the SNB site, but more in the breast area, and it seems like it is palpable Markbetween bruised tissue and not bruised. It's really odd, and I don't know whether to be concerned or not. I see the MO for the first time tomorrow, and as I stated earlier, I am site and tired upon my return to work. Any thoughts? Should I be concerned? Or is this part of healing?
Thanks,
-Midgie

Hi Midgiee, no experience with that, but just wanted to chime in to say i would definitely show your MO since it seems to have just cropped up after a somewhat more physically active day. Wishing you a good visit (from a fellow Marylander)!

Hey there!
Survived the lumpectomy and SNB. The surgeon took a couple lymph nodes and a lot more breast than I thought. A little afraid to see what's under the bandages when I remove them tomorrow. The armpit incision bled a bunch and I had to replace that dressing already. No surprises there, though. Today is all about tingling fingers and finding new numb spots, but it's all good. Pathology report should be in no later than Monday, which will determine when the oncologist will fit me in. Yet another waiting game. Sigh. Naps with a snuggly dachshund will help, no doubt.

Inkster,

Thank you! The snuggle dog totally rocks. The big dogs help me feel safer at night, but the little dude keeps me happy.
I hope all went well with the MO! Sending snuggle dog vibes.

Inkster,
My MO was awesome! We agreed to send a sample out for oncotype testing, so I go back in 2 weeks. I'll have my RO consult that same day.
I ran into my neighbor at the cancer center. He is receiving treatment for prostate cancer. He didn't know I was dealing with cancer too. We had a nice chat and he's coming by with his wife to hang out some warm night.
And, I ran into this sweet baby in the lobby! Great snuggle material!

Oh my goodness! Look at that sweet face!
I'm sorry your neighbor has to go through this, but hanging out on a warm night sounds lovely.
It's funny how small a world cancer is. I found mine because a co-worker came in and announced his wife had just been diagnosed with fairly advanced breast cancer. That was the prompt I needed to make the mammogram appointment and the subsequent discovery of the mass in my breast. Since my diagnosis, I have discovered that I know a bunch of people that are either currently in treatment or have been treated for various cancers in the last few years. While it's not a club I would recommend membership to, it certainly is a big one.

Midgiemoon, your pup is adorable! Glad you are getting oncotype done. Mine is still pending as well.Inkster I was prompted to get my mammogram (was almost a year late) when my hairdresser chastised me.

Inkster, fur babies are the best cuddlers! It's always "interesting" to see how things look post-lx. Take it easy and pamper yourself!
MidgieMoon and Pat, I've always been good about my mammos. However, I had changed doctors and things didn't go as smoothly as normal so I was 2 months past due for my annual mammo when I went in for a tender breast. Tender spot wasn't cancer. It was elsewhere. Just glad it was caught.
HUGS!!

PontiacPeggy - no lie on the "interesting" part of how things look. I took off the bandages today. It looks like a breast, just not my breast. Still, take what I can get. And I can't think of a better excuse to get a matching set in my favorite (smaller) size when this is allllllll over.
On happiest news (for me), the pathology report showed no lymph node involvement and wide margins. Hurray!!! I feel like I won the lottery.
Hope everyone's day has gone well!

Inkster,
Hooray for the good news! I think we may be long lost siblings, I am of the same mind about a matched set! My breast is all kinds of colors but my Mo took a look yesterday and she was squealing about how well I was healing. I stopped worrying at that point!
My cancer was discovered on my on time annual mammogram. How about that?? My neighbor with prostate cancer told me his was found because he was buying life insurance and they ran a pas test and it was off the charts! Poor guy, he's having a tough time...
Hang tough ladies!

Inkster, that's great news!!!!! Get your girls taken care of when you're ready! That will be a nice reward.
Midgie, isn't it nice to know that, in spite of the kaleidoscope you are sporting, that you're perfect?
HUGS to all!
Peggy
