Does anyone know if my recovery will be more difficult because I am a large woman with very large(DDD) breasts? I am really worried. Any other plus size gals out there?  My surgery is coming up Wed.

I too am a super sized woman (40DD bra).  Surgeon told  my husband the amount of tissue he removed was between a golf ball and tennis ball  size..  That breast is some smaller that the other one, but I really have not problems with it.  My surgery was in Nov 2011.  I am sure you will do just fine.

I'm a month out from my lumpectomy now, and just started running again this past week (only 1.5 miles Thursday, then 4 today).  I doubled up on my sports bras today for extra support, but I'm nervous now because I'm swollen now.  I've been icing on & off today, and am hoping that helps.

Is anyone still experiencing occasional swelling a month out?  I'm not sure if I should call my doctor about this.

Hi I am new to the site, and am looking to talk with anyone who had Contura Balloon therapy after their lumpectomy.  It is new to the area where I live, I was the third person to have it done.  I have so many questions, and while I have excellent doctors, who have answered all the medical questions, I would love to talk with someone who actually went thru it.

    thanks Lisa

Lisa, I had that in November of 2011.  My RO was part of the team that developed it.  Feel free to PM me with any questions you think I can help you with.. reposting here is okay too.'

Tell me about healing. Well, let me tell you about mine and you can tell me if this is normal (and I'll be calling my doctor tomorrow morning but that's hours away. LOL)

I had my lumpectomy and SNB 5 days ago (Weds 4/2) By the next day I had very little pain and was just taking tylenol, but I'm still *really* tired. No energy to do anything, really. Days 2&3 the worst pain was at the site of the SNB, because of muscles being moved, etc. I suppose. Today, not so! Today the lump incision is burning. It itches like crazy, which I've experienced before as normal healing after a tummy tuck. There is an area of the steri strips that has pulled up a tiny bit and the incision line doesn't look good under there. Its getting wider and white, not a pencil line and scabby like it should be. And, because I'm paranoid and thinking I'm making up stuff in my head, I just had my husband feel to see if its hotter than the other side, and he says there is a definite difference. Lovely. Hopefully I can get into my surgeon in the morning to have him them take a look and assure me all is well.

you should call your dr office to speak to the on call dr. do not wait until morning, if no response or you cannot call the dr then go to urgent care or the ER to have a dr there look at it, better safe than sorry :)  I had Lumpectomy and SNB on 3/12/14 and felt the same as you and took only tylenol, then thought I had a serious issue when my wounds began leaking, they didn't feel warm but it was still freaky, come to find out the body filled the blank space with blood that then broke down and tried to find a way out which was the wounds...when I called the after hours dr he said this was fine but if it was looking red and warm and if I had a fever then I need to be seen, so hope this helps and I hope you find some comfort tonight!

I am plus size 46DD and had Lumpectomy in both breasts and I felt slight discomfort after surgery and then also felt it whenever I had my sports bra off, also when I wear a normal underwire bra the discomfort seems more so but I put the sports bra on right away and it's fine.

I had left breast lumpectomy and internal mammosite radiation.  I really didn't have problems with surgery.  It was in November 2012.  Where they took the balloon out I have a big knot and have been told it is not unusual since it fills with fluid and there is no need to do anything unless it is bothering me.  In the last couple of months I have been having pain.  My life over the last couple of months has been crazy.  My 89 year old other was in and out of hospital and passed away on March 29th.  My life really has been on hold.  Has anyone else had internal and had a problem with a knot?

I Had that trouble too.  Dr.s. said it was a seroma.  Mine was bad enough that they aspirated it two different times.  Normally, I have been told, the body absorbs the fluid.  This was all a little over 2 years ago, it is fine now.  I had other lumpy things too, and have since read that that can sometimes be caused by the bracytherapy.  again, no problem now.

Thanks Vicks1960 for the info.  I guess I just started worrying.  I have had trouble with fluid cysts all my life.  That makes it had to do a self breast examine.

RMLulu, thanks for the prayers concerning my mom.  It is really hard.  My mom was the youngest and all of my mom's family is gone.

Cindy, I've got the play list and the entertainment system ready for that pocket party. I'll bring cheese and crackers too. Mimi, you're definately on for balloons, hats and noise makers. Lol.

Debz, don't you worry about a thing. You've got this!

    Pocket Party!!!!!!

Yes, Cindy is amazing and very much appreciated in here!  BTW, what does RMlulu stand for?  Just curious.

Claudia, so sorry on the passing of your mother.  That is a hard one.  I am keeping you in my thoughts.  I still miss my mother so much and I lost her in 1976, way too soon.  The pain eases with time, just like anything, but it never completely disappears.  I am not sure I would want it too anyway.

Debz, hang in there -- it will be over soon and you are going to feel so much better on the other side.  And we will meet up and have lunch and a nice long chat!  Sending you a PM.  As Cindy said, we will try to keep the pocket party to a low roar, but I can't promise -- I do love me a good pocket party!

I am having a mini-celebration today.  I finished the last of my whole breast rads and will start my 5 boosts tomorrow and so far it has been pretty easy!  I did just as Dr. Cindy said, lots of water, moisture, free-boobing (I love that term) and good sleep and walking.

    Have a great week everyone!

Joan!!! Yay, haven't seen you in a bit. Congrats on finishing the regular rads. Now boosts + 2 weeks and you'll begin to feel kinda normal again!

Cindy we need another pocket party when BigD finishes rads. Sigh I love pocket parties.

Wondering how long I will feel tinges of pain in my lumpectomy areas? It's been almost 4 weeks...

Red, you and I are party animals I think - haha!  Yes, I have been mainly posting in the Spring 2014 Rads group during this time.  But this place will always be home base.  Yes, next week we party big!  I am looking forward to having to not go to the hospital every day -- although I dearly love my team there but I can stop in and bother them on my way to see my MO and I intend to do that!

Good to hear from you, Red!

ChrissyLB - I had twinges of pain after my lumpectomy, mainly where the node was removed.  My surgeon only took one node and I was amazed that I had pain at all but I did.  It was not bad and would flare up from time to time -- I do not remember how long it lasted but I am guessing the twinges of pain for you will dissipate soon.  I hope so, but just know it is not unusual to have it for awhile.

Chrissylb it depends on so many factors. I'm 4 months out now and I still get occasional zingers. During rads definitely, when exercising sometimes. Even just when watching TV occasionally. It depends on your body, your lumpy, your nerves, your SNB, your after treatment, a million things Chrissylb.

    But keep coming back to talk to us. At the very least we'll give cuddles and hugs. {{{{Chrissylb}}}}

Joan, I think you're right and if they ever have a Texas get together I'm going to have to drag my ewwa down there to meet you. I think lampshades and very red lipstick would be in order.

What do you think Mimi? Texas bound?? Hey, Cindy and Debz are in Texas too. That could be one hell of a Partay!

Hi, I have not been on here for a bit and so I am playing catch up with reading.

To the gal who asked about Bracytherapy /internal balloon radiation. I had that this past September.  So if you have any questions go ahead and PM me as I hope I can help. My sister had it a month after I did also.

I did get a seroma after brachytherapy. The fluid fills into the space where the cancer was removed and because of the radiation it gets blocks so the body can not reabsorb sometimes. Mine became painful and I could not sleep on the girl so they were able to drain it with ultrasound guidance.  I have not had any problems since.

    I hope this helps ..

I am still looking for a comfy bra that does not rub my incision. Mine is at the 11-12 oclock position and so the edge of the bras seem to rub the incision-- grrrrr.. I did find a cheap sports bra that doesn't rub as much but I seem to lack support with it.

Thanks for answering !!  I am a hairdresser, and have gone back to work full time in February 2014.  I did my radiation in December 2013, lumpectomy November 2013.  I had a seroma that had to be drained , 12 oz of fluid was removed.  The area of the balloon, is hard and continues to swell.  The docs keep telling me that this is from my type of work, so today they told me to go to part time for the next month and hopefully it will finally heal.  Did you have any of these issues, and how did they resolve themselves ?

I'll be glad to do the balloons for all the celebrations coming up.  But what about some face painting or body painting.  I'm sure we could develop some designs for the girls that would surprise the RO's or MO's.  Maybe just on the "good girls."  At Face and Body Painting conventions there are models wearing nothing but panties and have the rest of their body painted entirely.  You'd be amazed at how beautiful some of it is.  It took me off guard at first, but am used to it now.

LMAO RED!  You wear a lampshade on your head and I will wear one on mine!

Cindy -- One of these days, I will indeed mosey on down there and drag whoever wants to come with me.  Look for the two girls with the lampshades on their heads!

Mimi you come along with us !!  I will bring an xtra shade for ya!

     Lisa,

Since my seroma was drained I have not had any problems- but it does continue to be sore- I had my radiation in Sept and I saw my radiologist oncologist just last Friday and he said I am not completely healed yet as radiation takes a long time to heal- I had an ultra sound sound 2 weeks ago and it showed the cavity where the cancer was removed and how the radiation left this line around the cavity. I have a small Seroma again but it is not bothering me and and he said hopefully this time the fluid will be absorbed by my body.   My original seroma that as drained was 12 cc.

I actually have a dent in my breast now where the cancer was removed, but my breast did swell for awhile after surgery. Moving your arms a lot I am sure has a lot to do with it.  I went back full blast to work 9 days after I was done with internal radiation and my whole breast swelled along with my arm so I ended up in OT for lympedemia treatments. Have they suggested that to you at all?
